    August Sleevers..what Is The Progress

Hi fellow August sleevers! 1. Sleeved 8/17 I am eating a huge variety of foods so I can’t give a “typical” day but I can eat 4 ounces at a time of pureed (or almost pureed) foods. Some of the things I have been eating are: Roast beef hash with a little mashed potatoes and gravy, cream of wheat with honey, egg salad, tuna salad, lobster cakes (like crab cakes but with lobster), Greek yogurt, SF pudding, Slim Fast low carb Protein shakes, broccoli cheese soup, oatmeal, canned pureed white meat chicken breast (that I thought would be gross but was pretty good), a frozen refried bean dip (I am not a huge fan of Beans but this was delicious with a little TB mild sauce on it). I have tried the Baked Ricotta recipe (and added a few pieces of pepperoni) off of “The World According to Eggface/pureed food page” and tonight I plan on trying the Cheesy Cauliflower Casserole from her website. I was having trouble getting my liquids in. I was a person who has never drank enough Water to begin with but I wanted to be better after surgery. I felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day to get all the fluids in without being able to drink 30 mins before, during, or after a meal until I did a schedule for my eating and liquids and I haven’t had trouble since! Here’s my schedule: Food: 8:30 bfast 11:30 snack 2:30 lunch 5:30 snack 8:30 dinner (I know that is late but that’s when my hubby gets home so it works for me) Glad disposable 4oz bowls with the little lids are lifesavers but I just reuse them Fluids: 9:30-11:00- 13 oz 11:00-12:30- No drink zone 12:30-2:00- 13 oz 2:00-3:30- No drink zone 3:30- 5:00- 13 oz 5:00- 6:30- No drink zone 6:30-8:00- 13 oz 8:00- 9:30- No drink zone 9:30- 11:00 13 oz I just put 13 or 14 oz of water in my bottle add ½ a pack of lemon iced tea flavored crystal light and a slice of lemon and I know that’s exactly how much I have to drink in an hour and a half.) I haven’t been keeping track of my protein very well and I plan to start doing that this week. I hope I can figure out a system that makes it easy like the Fluid schedule did for me. My problem is that I hate normal Protein Shakes the only one I can drink is the Slim Fast low carb creamy chocolate. I heard on You Tube about a stick of ostrich Jerky that has 14g of protein and tastes like a slim jim, so maybe that would work… I am just not a person who has a sweet tooth and all the protein powders are yucky to me, but I have been making myself add some unflavored powder to things I’m cooking (too bad unflavored doesn’t mean no taste). Any other protein ideas? I am hoping it will be a little easier once I am off of pureed food. Oh man this is really long…oops! I don’t know if I should answer the other 2 questions. I try to keep them short and sweet 2. Energy level = okay (not great not bad) Activity level= low to med (I’m studying for a registry exam right now so other than a little walking and housekeeping its mostly studying.) Pain Level= little to none (If I use my ab muscles to do something I shouldn’t they will let me know they are still healing. Incisions look great no pain just little scabs.) Nausea= None (Haven’t had any since the hospital) 3. 16 lbs- including 4 day pre op diet 12lbs -since surgery (3 weeks out today) Although one day my scale tricked me and said I had lost 14 lbs Stalls are no fun!

    Week 2 whatcha eating?

I'm 10 days post-op and I've been bad too. I had a south beach diet protein bar. It was the whipped peanut butter kind and it was SO good. I have no idea what I should have for dinner, but I'm sick of yogurt and soup.

    August Post Ops

I use vita-vim chewable vitamins, they might be jamieson brand. I got to see a dr today. He gave me a prescription for a different antacid that I'll try tomorrow. Also got a scrip for anti nausea, tried it 15min ago and its staying down alright. I was getting to the point where water was even making me nauseous. In the past 4 days I had 2 bites of banana, 2 tbsp yogurt, half cup soup and maybe 5 cups of water. Was drinking some g2 Gatorade trying to get electrolytes.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Here’s a few examples for food for a day: Breakfast: 1 Oikos Tripppe Zero yogurt (I almost eat entire serving) and 2 cut up strawberries Or.. 8oz Soymilk blended with Premier Vanilla protein powder, 2 tbsp PB2, cinnamon & squirt of stevia (cup of ice) Lunch: 1-2 oz Grilled Salmon with Capers Or 1-2 oz Grilled chicken. I’ll make a Caprese Salad (mozzarella, oil, basil & balsamic glaze drizzle) Dinner: Steamed Green Beans and left over protein from lunch. Snacks: blueberries, whole almonds or protein shakes. I’ll sneak in a few whole wheat ritz crackers every few days. Simple foods are what is settling good right now. Drinking water with a splash of Gatorade Zero for flavor or a Mio splash for flavor. That’s it! Love to hear any other ideas
  5. I agree with you!! I am so paranoid about eating too many calories and so i under eat! I am 3.5 months out of sleeve surgery and I think my body is in starvation mode. I'm going to try to up my calories to 600 and see if that breaks my somewhat stall. i was drinking a protein shake at night but i figured its like 160 calories before bed.....not sure if that is good for me. I drink it in the morning now as breakfast. Then i will have no fat cottage cheese or greek yogurt as a snack a couple hours after dinner.

Mexico drs = NO diet pre op?

Three days is nothing. My MX dr required liquids and yogurt. I started slamming protein drinks also. I was at a lower BMI too and I don't think that has anything to do with it anyway. It's prep for surgery regardless of what you weigh I think that's what you were saying/asking?

    Liquid phase did yu cheat

I've added new foods as I could tolerate them. Yogurt, Jello, etc in week one, week 2 mushy foods, and now in the 3rd week I am eating a few solid foods but nothing too extreme. I learned what I couldn't tolerate pretty fast because it would make me feel bad. There's a lot of variation between on Dr and another. I think the trick is to take it slowly and add things one at a time and remember that the eating habits you develop post op are the ones that will follow you from now on and will dictate your weight loss and success.

    Pre-op Liquid Diet

I would say to follow your doctor's order. Eggs might be fine, but there might be a specific reason why he/she doesn't want you to have them. After all, a liquid diet is a LIQUID diet. I did an all liquid diet for 4 weeks, and I was fine. I think that you will find that if you are consuming protein shakes at least 2-3 times daily, sipping on broths, and snacking on yogurts, popsicles and jello, you won't really get hungry. You will also lose lots of weight before surgery. You should be on day 4 now with 6 days left to go. You can do it.
  9. I had my RNY on July 3, so I'm almost a month post-op. I'm feeling better each day and learning how to measure and weigh my puree meals. Getting in enough water and meeting my protein goals is a daily challenge, but I'm getting there. I've experienced Dumping once when I mixed original almond milk with a Greek yogurt in my protein shake ( too much sugar for my body), but I'm fine now that I switched to unsweetened almond milk. It's crazy how little sugar I can now tolerate. I'm also battling constipation, so another reason to get all my water in. I've also added Miralax and Smooth Move tea to my diet. It's helping [emoji4] I have zero regrets about going thru with this and look forward to the future with my amazing new tool! Hope everyone's road to recovery is going as well as mine! 10. Been stuck in a stall for 3 weeks, or about that. Like perhaps 4 or 5 pounds over that time. Now I am DETERMINED to lose weight, I am down to 350 calories a day, no appetite, cannot stand the thought of eating, coffee, Water and yogurt(s) are my entire diet as of now. I am back to losing weight again but at what cost? I don't know what to do. I take my Vitamins and feel great, but know this is bad for me. Suggestions? Calorie reduction went from 900 > 700 > 500 > 400 > 350 and today as of this writing at 3:08PM I am at 202 calories for the day. Not even close to Protein goal, water is waaaay over. Gah, I think I made a terrible mistake having this surgery. I was more successful losing weight pre-op on my own. Still burning 4K-5K calories a day and even then I am lucky to lose a pound a day. NUT would yell at me and tell me to eat more. PA more of the same. I see my therapist on the 20th along with a new Pdoc, what to do in the meantime? Tomorrow is weigh in day, and I am afraid if I don't see a big loss for the week I might start becoming anorexic. HELP!

    March Sleevers

Starting my liquid diet today. I'm SO jealous of those of you who can eat veggies and regular food on your pre-op diet. I'm on yogurt, broth, water, popsicles, protein shakes......yayyyyyy. Lol!
  12. UGH So today was my best friend's birthday and I ate more than I have since surgery 3/27/12... the most I have eaten in a day since then was probably about 1500 calories UNTIL TODAY. I have been feeling super hungry because I was supposed to get my first fill last week but because my port site incision became infected, they put me on antibiotics and pushed my fill back to this thursday. I am a currently a nanny saving for graduate school and just recently started waitressing again part time... I worked a 7 hour shift on Saturday and a 7 and a half hour shift on Sunday and was exhausted and famished... I checked 3 different calorie calculators and they all said that I burn about 3,330 calories in a 7 hour waitressing shift even going at a slow pace! I knew this must be close to true because I got on the scale today and am 4 pounds down from last tuesday SO I figured, what the hell, I'll indulge with my best friend for her birthday! It just got out of control... I ate yogurt in the morning, 2 medium blueberry pancakes with sugar free syrup for lunch, two HUGE frozen margaritas in the afternoon as well as chips and queso, a huge piece of birthday cake, AND spaghetti with Aurora sauce for dinner. I feel absolutely disgusted with myself and am just lucky I didn't get sick (probably because I have not had a fill yet). I attempted to tally it all up and I probably consumed about 3200 calories today which is atrocious. I am overwhelmed with guilt and the fact that I could actually fit that in my body today without throwing up, but I feel super sick and just icky and bloated over all. SIGH. I know I will get back on track tomorrow no problem and that I am getting a fill on Thursday but I just feel so emotionally and physically awful... eating like that is what got me here in the first place and I have lost 35 pounds since surgery 3/27/12 and never plan on going back! Why did I do that to myself today?!

Protein drink 8 oz. skim milk ½ cup cottage cheese 1 oz. low-fat Milk 1- 2 Tbsp. peanut butter 2 Celery or 1/ 2 apple 1/2 cup light yogurt Did you get something like this? It took me along to not eat for my head. I wanted tubs of guacamole and pints of ice cream. I am better after a year. But somedays are so hard. I take Cymbalta for Major Depression and Fibromylagia. It helps also with wanting everything in the cub board. It is mindful eating....http://www.tcme.org/ The carb is what fills you up. Qunioa is a good protein choice also. I have not tried this yet: http://www.cookingquinoa.net/quinoa-energy-bars Calories 147, Fat 8.1g, Carbohydrates 17g, Protein 3.8g, Cholesterol 1 mg, Sodium 12mg, Fiber 1, Sugars 7.8g
  14. Cottage cheese has 11-12 gms of protein per 1/2 cup. I will eat this if I am low on protein. (but I have always liked it..) Maybe worth a shot? Greek yogurt with a packet of sweetener and some cinnamon is good too!!
  15. Mashed potatoes are on my stage 3 (after full liquids) diet and are good mixed with plain greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream, but has a nice bit of protein!) Also, I know you don't like cottage cheese, but if you mix 1/4 c cottage cheese with an egg and a little cold water and beat it up and scramble it, it's very tasty (seasoned to you liking) and really doesn't taste anything like cottage cheese.

    December sleevers

hope it's ok for me to jump in here too? I was sleeved December 2011 loosing 10 lbs a month is average/normal/good some people et al will loose more weight, or less. Never, ever, ever or ever compare yourself to other OP. Won't hep you, and might make you sad or disappointed try eating 6 small meals daily - ie shake, yogurt, etc. You MUST measure all food/liquids!! whatever your NUT tells you to eat any time period (2-3 ounces etc.) follow her directions ONLY.. if you are ge tting full, s top ea ting. my doc told me "to eat til i'm full, then stop 2 bites earlier80% refers to eating less calories, and about 20% exercise. Exercise is great for your spirits and metabolism (msp) tracking ALL your food is great/important (most OP use MFP) My Fitness Pal. you work with the sleeve, and it will work with you!! good luck to all i know you can do it kathy
  17. I ate pretty regularly. I was just really label conscious. It will work for you, and everyone's body is different. Also, my sleeve is shorter than most patients since they had to remove more tissue during my leak repair. Your sleeve may be a bit bigger than mine, or your body may be adjusting differently. Some days, I can take more food in, but I think a lot of my issues go back to having to eat so slowly, and chewing excessively. I still don't have hunger, and if we go out to eat, my husband and son, know that we'll be at the restaraunt for at least an hour. I have trained myself to eat super slow. It's a habit now. If I take my time, I can eat more at one sitting. I relied on greek yogurt and laughing cow cheese. When I got to soft solids, I ate deli meat with laughing cow. I did have a couple of weeks where mashed potatoes were my staple. But, I only ate about 2 oz of them. They were super filling. I would say that 90% of the time I stayed below 30 grams of a carbs a day. Some day, I would have a few more, but I never got over 50 carbs a day. It was just a rule I followed within my surgeon's and nutritionist post-op diet. Now, I'm getting in more carbs because I'm trying to maintain.
  18. Don't know if this will help, but here are some foods I use... 19. Hi everybody (^;^) my husband is 1 week post op today, and down 15 lbs in 1 week and 30 pre op. He has a giant smile on his face this morning to see he is under the 400 mark, now a 398lbs and dropping!! he is now having a protein shake for breakfast (about 1 hr), yogurt for lunch (30-45 min), homemade broths for dinner (1hr) and water, water, water all day!! Have a great day!!!
  20. I eat greek yogurt for breakfast or a protein bar. The pure protein are about 180 to 200 calories but they have sugar alcohols that can cause stomach upset and gas. I limit those to about 1 a week. I eat tuna, boca burgers, black bean burgers, cottage cheese, low sodium V-8 because I dont always eat my veggies, I make black bean casserole. Edamame with sea salt, sometimes but rarely chicken salad and I do not do low fat or fat free anything because the amount of fat I eat in a day is not too much. I also buy any of the pic sweet veggies in the single serving size. Protein shakes I am done with. I don't think at a certain point you should still drink them. It is liquid calories and they do not keep you full. I eat eggs for breakfast too with a small amount of ketchup to help them go down. I hardly eat any meat because it doesnt like me. There are many things you can eat you have to try them. I thought I would never eat tofu but I love it. Sauteed in cabbage it is so good with lots of different seasoning such as dill, seasoning salt, cracked pepper. Packed with protein and taste like whatever you cook it with.

    Why Greek Yogurt?

It has more Protein than regular yogurt. The ones with a lot of sugar are the pre-flavored ones. I like to use plain Greek yogurt and either put my own fruit on there or use it in a smoothie.
  22. this sucks

    Why Greek Yogurt?

The sugar free Greek yogurts are not all sour. Chobani is, but the Light version of the Dannon isn't.
  23. melissaw1976

    Why Greek Yogurt?

Greek yogurt has a lot of protein. I get the plain, fat free and add my own fresh fruit and a little bit of honey. But, it is sour.
  24. Many good comments have been made on this thread. So true, the new stomach lets you know right away what is good or bad for your situation. My head tells me one thing and my stomach can tell me a totally different thing. I learned real quick that anything too sweet or too greasy is very hard for my new stomach to tolerate. Also if I overeat I have to stop eating right away or it really feels uncomfortable and I feel like I am going to vomit. I try to get in 3 meals and I have some snacks. I try to eat healthier snacks such as Nuts, Sun Chips, frozen lowfat Yogurt ect... If I have too much to eat at a meal, I save part of it and wait until the feeling of being too full goes away then I eat the rest when I feel better. I can only eat about 1 1/2 oz. then I start feeling uncomfortable, stop eating and in about 15-30 minutes I can finish another 1 1/2 oz. or so for a total of about 3 oz. for one meal. For an example, the diet menu Fresco Ranchero chicken soft taco at Taco Bell is one of my favorite and I can only eat half of it and then I can eat the rest of it in 15-30 minutes. That is a big change from my usual 3-5 tacos before the surgery. The surgery sure took away my stomach hunger. I eat now because I know that I need to eat or I am trying to get more protein. Before surgery I felt hungry most of each day. I wanted to eat and wanted to really eat alot of what tasted real good. But now that I have had the sleeve everything is so different. I do still have my moments, but they are less than before and I am learning more and more everyday. I wish you all the best. It all does get easier as time goes by, especially when you can eat regular foods instead of the milkshakes and liquids.

    disgusted!

Hi, It's amazing how different our tastes are. But, I think if you mix the nectar correctly, they recommend less than half the Water you used (I use 8 oz) you might like it better. I "overwatered" one time and it was indeed horrible. Correct measurement makes all the difference in the world IMHO. I just reordered a double Nectar sample pack from Vitalady.com as Nectar is the only one I can do mixed with water and I really like their high Protein, no carbs and pretty good taste. Another thing I do is shake it like crazy, in a shaker, of course, with lots of ice. I think the cold helps too. It does foam but I don't mind it. I have to add also, that I have not tried the strawberry Mousse but have had most of the other flavors and liked them all. unjury is another one that I can do easily but many here despise it. I find the unflavored goes great in Soups and I throw the vanilla in yogurt or whatever sweet. The chickes Soup wasn't bad to me either. They have sample packs available. I think Unjury is available on-line only. Good Luck!! Carol
