    One month post op problems

I couldn't do shakes either. nectar was sorta kinda tolerable. cheese - babybels, string cheese, cottage cheese. Greek yogurt (i like oikos triple zero, 15g protein!) Once you're further out p3 packs. They have nuts which I would think you're too early for. 170-190 cal and has 11-13g protein depending on the pack. Avoid the ones with dried fruit, ups the calories by 100! Good luck - it gets easier!
  2. So she's just 2 weeks out, right? I was on liquids for a full 3 weeks before ever attempting puréed textured foods. And even then 1/4 cup of yogurt would have been way too much. Even a couple teaspoons made me too full to drink for hours. I ended up drinking protein shakes, water, juice, milk, tea and protein broth most of the day and taking a couple nibbles of yogurt or refried beans late in the day. Your friend's sleeve may just not be ready to advance yet. Getting 100+ ounces of fluids and 60-80g of protein is more important than the type of texture she can tolerate right now. As long as she's meeting fluid and protein goals, she can transition food stages as slow as she needs to. Took me over a year to be able to meet my protein goals with solid food alone. But believe me, I sure appreciate the restriction.
  3. Hi every body I'm worried for my friend she was sleeved this November and discharged from the hospital like a couple of days later. She was able to drink Clear liquids then full liquids now that her surgeon tells her it's ok to eat yogurt like textured food she is not able to drink Water even four hours after eating 1/4 of a yogurt. Has any one faced such thing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I am in a similar place to you. My surgery will most likely be after the first of the year. I am using a 1200 calorie guide from my surgeon. 60 grams or more of that is lean protien. Lots of non starchy veggies. I do have an occaisional glass of wine or a SMALL piece of dark chocolate as a snack but I budget those calories in. I like smoothies made with greek yogurt, frozen unsweetened fruit, sometimes kale, almond milk, honey if needed, depends on the fruit. For me this works better for lunch than Breakfast. Good luck Sent from my SM-T377P using the BariatricPal App

Couple other suggestions-- fairlife milk (ultra filtered so fewer carbs and more Protein, Lucerne also makes a version called protein plus) and Greek no sugar added yogurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I don't know if this will be concrete enough for you, but here is the plan I had for my pre-op program (not the official pre-surgery diet but for before that, on my nutritional program). I still use a modified version of it when I need to drop into weight loss mode again. Unlimited: lean, unprocessed protein (fish, white meat chicken & turkey, lean cuts of beef, etc.); green veggies (asparagus, broccoli, brussels sprouts, leafy greens, cauliflower, artichokes, green beans), black coffee, tea, water; herbs and spices, healthy fats (olive oil, grass-fed butter etc. but in moderate quantities -- "unlimited" doesn't mean to go eat a stick of butter!).. One serving of each daily: whole grains, fresh fruit, nonfat dairy. 1 time per week (each): sweet potato, nuts (small serving only), beans/legumes; eggs Banned: everything else, including starchy veggies, sweets, artificial sweeteners, highly processed food such as jello or pudding or chips. Weigh/measure all portions and log everything in MyFitnessPal. Stay under 1500 calories per day. Carbs, protein, etc. will take care of themselves on this eating plan. Sample menu: Breakfast: steel-cut oatmeal w/ cinnamon Morning snack: 1 c. nonfat yogurt Lunch: Chicken breast & asparagus salad w/ olive oil & vinaigrette Afternoon snack: apple Dinner: Grilled salmon, baked avocado slices, pan-wilted garlic spinach After dinner snack: 1 oz. hickory almonds Good luck!
  7. Mine was modified liquid (liquid plus Jello, pudding, smooth greek yogurt) for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of adding in puree/mushies slowly, and then if that went well, adding in solid food very carefully, with the goal of full diet in 6 weeks. Each food to add was to be done by itself, in small amounts, and chewed VERY well to see how it went/stayed down.
  8. Mine is way stricter than yours. Clear liquids and protein drinks only for the first 4 weeks, though I can add light or fat-free yogurt and sugar free pudding at 2 weeks post-op. Week 5 I can start purees, then week 8 I start soft foods.
  9. Hi! I'm 2 months post op of rny and down 57.4lbs! I am cleared to eat regular food except for carbs, that's at 6 months. I'm running out of ideas on what to have for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Right now it's usually a Protein shake for breakfast,or greek yogurt and a snack string cheese, I made chili for lunches or dinners it's usually a piece of meat and maybe a vegetable. I'm getting sick of having the same foods and I'm not making my protein intake everyday. I'm bringing in 300-500 calories a day and below 75 grams protein. I'm looking for ideas on what your daily menu is like. I would really appreciate it. Thank you I n advance! Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

My gastric sleeve has been a total failure!

I would get a second opinion from a different bariatric surgeon if you haven't already. Is there a possibility that revision to bypass would help your issues? As far as eating goes, can you tolerate foods that are healthier, such as yogurt or cottage cheese?
  11. You posted for support and insight, I'm sure. Here's mine....take care of yourself, put yourself first, baby yourself, take the needed time to heal, and be kind to yourself. I am six weeks post op and I am still eating mostly puréed soups with added protein, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, jello, and two Premier shakes a day. My challenge is in drinking enough liquid, not protein intake. Keep a journal of what you eat, your excercise, and how you are feeling. That has helped me. I wish for you the best.
  12. Boudala- I am self pay too so I understand what you are talking about. We missed out on nutritionist , counseling, and the many classes and information. My insurance wouldn't cover any bariatric surgery. I think they are actually doing their clients a disservice by not covering it. I can't tolerate the Vitamins either. I am only able to get 1 in a day. They make me feel like I am going to puke! Try drinking more fluids and see if your energy level improves. I went back to work after 10 days and some days I just want to come home and nap. My Dr said you can put the Vitamin in a blender with yogurt or Protein powder, strawberries, blueberries bananas and spinach. Maybe try that? Sometimes I have to eat a sf Popsicle right after the vitamin to kill the taste etc.. Hope you get your energy back. Maybe you are trying to do too much or your Vitamin D or B12 is low? 13. Gotcha.... so initially the first 48 hours was clear liquid Proteins only, then for the first two weeks was liquids. Then soft foods... but in my docs soft foods... it includes fish and meat and eggs cooked properly. cheese... yogurt. From week 4-8 is semi soft foods but it's actually pretty much the same diet as the soft foods. I was told I pretty much couldn't do anything other than walking but then I feel that because I am self pay I got very little guidance on that part and they don't really care to elaborate nor respond after they've been paid. Meal prepping

I only had to pack lunch, I eat breakfast and dinner at home. My usual was either Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a little nut butter or PB2, or a couple of slices of deli meat (roast turkey, roast beef etc.) and maybe a slice of cheese in a roll-up. I kept it very simple. I would also take a couple of protein shakes as snacks, to make sure I hit my protein goals for the day -- Premier Protein was my usual brand.
  15. My Dr allowed me to put spinach in a blender with Greek yogurt, strawberries and bananas within 2 weeks of surgery. It's blended well so no problems. It has good nutrients that I think we need. But I would call your Dr office to confirm Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Will I be able to do this?

After surgery we have to eat Protein first with each meal. Do you dislike lean meats? eggs? cheese? Yogurt? Or do you just go for carbs because you like them better and fill up on them? For me I always liked healthy foods. I love seafood, chicken, etc. My problem is I never felt full. I would have a healthy protein/produce lunch or dinner and get up from the table still hungry. I felt like I needed a starch or two with the meal to feel satisfied. SO....I think the surgery is working for me (I had VSG on Halloween, so far I can hardly eat anything) because when I do start eating I should be satisfied with mostly protein. At the moment I can't wait to eat tuna, salmon, eggs, cheese sticks, nuts, etc. If I would have tried to ditch the carbs before surgery I would have been starving. In fact, I tried it a million times and I WAS starving. Maybe try Weight Watchers or an Atkins diet now? What have you tried before?
  17. 9.1.RUNS!

I'm five days postop. I was able to have yogurt today which was wonderful. Still finding it difficult to get in on my fluids but I'm making sure that I'm doing the shakes. My back is really sore and I'm thinking that most of the anesthesia is out of my body right now , Which feels good in itself.....So I napped during Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and I figured when everyone left I would make a big pot of homemade turkey Soup thinking that it would be so much better than the box stuff, today I savored every sip! Not even 30 mins later I wasn't so thankful for that soup! No I have a loud belly my 3 yr old told me to shush my tummy it's being to loud! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    So here I go....

Hey Tish! My month out is going great! I actually seen my doctor on the Nov 22 and had not weighed my self prior. So a bit about me prior, no high blood pressure, no diabetes, no high cholesterol, ( rather healthy so to speak).....my stats HW:363 SW:343 CW:300 (11/22/16). I have loss over 25% of weight and according to him "ahead of the curve in 1 month span." So I was told to do walking only prior but know I could full throttle my workouts, no restrictions. As far as food goes, follow you docs diets and directions. You don't want to risk hurting yourself. 1 week post, I got really tired of Protein drinks, actually so tired that I would start to gag while drinking them. So I completely stopped drinking them and ate; Vitamins, Water, sf Jello, fat free Greek yogurt, sf popsicles were my fave. Week 3 I did lots of shakes/smoothies using the ninja and would keep them in a small ice chest as the day goes. I would get one while I was at work or school. You really don't get hungry but I would get cravings (sounds weird).. Anyhow, after my 1 month visit he has now released with no restrictions diet! I was like heck yeah! I felt like I had skipped a hole step because I never really did purée food but once, even then I felt as of a few spoon bites were too much for me. But know I'm scared, I think to myself, will I fall into old habits? Will I do right to my self? So on the day he released my first official meal was sushi using brown rice (bad I know) and sashimi. I ate 4 rolls and 2 pieces of sashimi and felt really full. Thanksgiving day I ate 3 fork bites of turkey and couldn't have felt more horrible. (I did eat it slowed and chewed it thoroughly). It was like I was about to pop or something, so I immediately stopped eating and just walked around till I felt a bit better. So one other thing I opted not to buy, a scale, I thought to myself I'm not doing to lose weight but to be more healthy right? But, at the same time I contradict myself and I say I can't wait to see how much had been lost. (Weird I know) So, that's the story of my life in a vsg form! I hope this gives you somewhat of a insightful idea and expectation. If you have any questions just let me know you could email me directly at dnlnext@gmail.com. FYI- I zipped lined for for the first time since I was a teen, I'm 32yrs now and it was fun! Things I could not do just over a month ago. Brings back memories. Finally surgery in December 6th.

@@chiarraim I'm doing three shakes per day for two weeks. I'm only allowed to take crystal light, broths or stocks, Water, yogurt.... I did the juices of the ham yesterday. Of course wasn't the same. At least you can eat eggs. I cant't and I've craving the egg whites with mozzarella cheese. And I feel the same way when I wake up in the mornings. I feel energized and better. My hunger is going down. I get really hungry around 1700 (5pm) so I'm doing the yogurt in the mornings. I wish I was allowed at least sweet potatoes or a lil bit of ham Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 weeks post surgery

I am in the Uk and now 4 weeks today and have been having same problems. I can eat yogurt baby bell cheese Protein shakes etc but been sick when I tried soft food. I am hoping it is just a phase and maybe taking a bit slower but just so fed up with soup or sweet stuff. Just of out to a big thanksgiving dinner as one of my mummy friends is American. I am taking some broth as don't want to be sick in public. I have met up for coffee today with a lady from this site and it was lovely to chat face to face. 23. Just wondering why do you think everyone's program is so drastically different? I know there has to be some consistent research on gastric sleeve surgery. But there are so many variations with everyone. My Dr allowed Protein shakes upon Discharge from hospital. Then every 2-3 days I am allowed to progress to yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce then well cooked vegetables. Then 2-5 days eggs, Beans, fish and nuts then dark meat chicken. If I can tolerate the new food for 2 days I could progress on. This could be as soon as 3 weeks. Luckily (or unluckily lol) I have been able to tolerate everything with no problems. The only thing that makes me nauseous is my chewable Vitamin. I see some people on liquids for weeks after surgery. Just makes me curious why my program allows it but others don't? The surgery should be standard protocol for most everyone right? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. More than the guilt and shame you're feeling, it's dangerous to be eating solids right now (no matter how well chewed they might be) when you're supposed to be sticking to liquids. You have stitches on the inside, everything is still swollen, stuff can get stuck, etc. It sounds like that's not going to happen to you, which is good, but we're all entering holiday food season -- once you get to puréed foods and then solids, it would be wise for you to stock up on the things you can eat so you're better prepared. Yogurt, Jello, lentil Soup, bean soup, etc. Give the program you're on a chance to work. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I had some single-serve Soups in the freezer and bought a lot of Premier Protein, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese for easy sources of protein. I also got 100% cotton panties and a mumu to wear. I bought gauze, pads and paper tape. My grandma brought a walker which helped a lot the first two days. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
