    What's wrong with me?????

I'm feeling pretty depressed and guilty and discouraged and and and... and I'm tired of feeling this way! I've got my band in april of last year and didnt get my first fill until 6 months later. I've lost 55 pounds since but just cant seem to stay on track these days. Ice cream.. crackers.. mini candy bars at work... sometimes in the afternoon at work, I cant stop thinking about a snack. I obsess over it and end up becoming grouchy because I cant stop thinking about it. I end up feeling deprived and punished because I cant eat what I want... then the guilt that I even feel like that in the first place makes it worse. sigh... WHATS WRONG WITH ME??? I'm so happy with my success so far, but I feel I cant do it anymore. I was going to the gym 3 times a week, so even when I cheated, I wouldnt gain. Unfortunately I fell and hurt my ankle 4 weeks ago and can only do so much before I'm in too much pain.... so now I only go 1 or 2 times a week. I was working back to my consistency, but then I must of reinjured it because it started swelling up and hurting so I am back to square one. Boo! Although I know my depression meds contribute to my weight gain and my lust for sweets, it doesnt make me feel any better. Feels like excuses. Its my 41st bday today and I had wanted to reach my first goal of 200 pounds by today, but am 11 pounds short... and its my fault. I get up every morning and tell myself that today I wont eat anything I am not suppose to and that I will go to the gym and be proud of myself... but that never seams to happen 100%. I'm sorry I didnt have any words of wisdom or positive energy to contribute... maybe I shouldnt of posted at all... anyway, good luck to you...

    SCARED

i WENT to my Primary Care Doctor on Tuesday, and he was disappointed that i gained the seven pounds I lost at the previous appointment. He asked me what I want to do about this weight gain since my weight keeps going up and the health problems keep going up (headaches, sleep apnea, etc) This is not the recent time he has been upset about the weight gain. I always been a big girl, I tried hiding it behind clothes, and of course humor. So now at 41 and to avoid having my life end early like my dad (he died of heart disease at 58)and having knee problems like my mom. At first I was all excited now I am scared about gastric sleeve surgery, (I never had surgery before ) Does anyone want to be friends and help be my support, I have my mom,my sister, my brother in law, told one friend) I am keeping it on the down low till I go May 18th to Weight Loss Seminar. Thank you and Good luck where ever you are in your journey of weight lost Please respond back to message of being pals Kammie
  3. Have you been checked for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)? Lack of periods and weight gain are symptoms.
  4. Well, I made the mistake of getting on the scale this morning. In spite of eating barely nothing since Saturday because I just don't feel like it, I've actually gained about nine pounds. Talk about discouraging. I hope it's just the fluids they pumped into me, but still. Not the outcome I was hoping for. Amy
  5. Thanks for the advise, it will be hard to find a new Protein drink. This one is pre-made and not thick it goes down so smooth with no after taste. My stomach is very particular, if something smells funny, I'm nauseous. If I look at food that is slimy or bloody ect, I'm nauseous. If food has a bad taste or is gritty or leaves a bad after taste, I'm nauseous. These nauseous feelings have led to throwing up, hart burn, & the sweats. My parents stopped saying "just try it" along time ago. Lol The Protein drinks I've tried are: muscle milk (both powdered & pre-mixed), EAS Advanced Edge, EAS Myoplex, ensure , Special K, stuff from lifetime fitness, pure protein ready to drink, boost, Isopure all of which made me nauseous & threw up after one. If anybody knows of any Liquid Protein drinks that are real good, please let me know. As for the weight gain you were right I just weighed myself & I went down to 205lbs. Also I'm taking your advise on the home made Soup, problem is I'm not a cook, but I have a crock pot & the will to try. Thank you so much.
  6. From what I've seen about it, your stomach is not so much stretching as relaxing over time. You will be able to take in more food eventually. I don't believe that it will be the same amount as in the past, but you'll be able to get more in there. Weight gain seems to usually come from unhealthy choices & habits coming back. As I see the surgery, it was an opportunity to hit a reset button. A chance to lose weight & build new healthier habits (and a lifetime commitment to keeping up those new habits).
  7. There's a difference between losing weight during your 3/6 month supervised diet and following your pre-op diet. It sounds like Melissa is talking about her 6 month diet, not the preop diet designed to shrink the liver. I didn't loose more than a few pounds during my 6 month supervised diet and by the end had actually gained a few pounds. (I'm sure my family doc thought I was crazy.:001_rolleyes:) Anyway, I knew this wasn't an issue for insurance approval (by my insurers guidelines), but it was a problem for my surgeon's guidelines. So, I started my preop diet early knowing that I needed to loose a few pounds or risk having my surgery cancelled. I did so well that I lost 15 pounds preop in 2 and a half weeks. So, Melissa you will probably be fine with insurance, but may have a problem with your surgeon if you've gained. If they suggest that they might have to cancel your surgery due to weight gain, ask them for a chance to start your preop diet early to loose a few pounds before surgery. Then you can come back in to weigh before the surgery. I think most doctors will work with you on this. And I don't think this is any indication of how successful you will be after surgery. You will just have to be aware of what you're doing and eating and you'll be fine.
  8. i went back to oral contraceptives. it remains a good option for me since I still have some form of PCOS (but it's fading quickly according to bloodwork and ultrasound!). my surgeon warned me to avoid Depo because of the potential weight gain with it, and ultimately left it up to my OB-Gyn who helped me make an informed decision.

paxil and weight gain after vsg?

This is something that is best discussed with your doctor. If you are really concerned about weight gain, then talk with the doctor about a different medication. They have a medication called buspar which is really good for anxiety. However, if you have some depression going on that needs to be treated then your doctor will determine this. Again I am not a doctor and I am just recommending that you talk with your doctor that prescribed the medication. There is a reason that he prescribed it for, so it's time for a consultation.
  10. Hi Everyone, I was given a prescription for paxil today for my anxiety and when I got home I read the side effects and one of the main side effect was weight gain. I couldn't find a thread with this on it here so I'm curious is anyone on it after surgery and notice weight gain from it??? I'm considering not even taking it after reading that.

    Sex before and after Lapband

I hear ya sister!!!!!! I just got banded 11-9-09 and am hoping that this gets better real soon. This is the one thing that my husband and I fight about constantly, he wants it more and doesnt under stand that it has nothing to do with him and that it is me, he love me for who I am not what I look like, but that still doesn't change how often he gets it, which is about 1-2 a month. I am hoping that I get my sex drive back like I had pre babies/weight gain as life was good then.

    Tummy Tuck before Lap Band

I had a tummy tuck 4 years ago and just got the lapband 3 months ago. I had no problems...my scar from the TT is way low and the lapband scars are pretty high. The part that I was worried about it them going through my belly button to inflate the gas bc my "new" bb is almond shaped and deep. I thought they would have problems, but they didn't have any problems. My weight gain since my TT is all in my upper stomach now and my back and butt. I had lose over 100lbs when I got my TT in 2003 and I was like "I am never going back" and of course I gained 80 lbs back. I am on my way back down!

    Bye, Bye Band

I'm going through it right now. I've been banded 5 years now and had lost 100lbs but about 3 years out my band slipped. I could hardly get anything down most days, I was living on soup/broth and serious GERD. I had lost my insurance and my job so had no money to see a surgeon. So I lived like that for 18 months or so until I could afford to go in to see my doc and we found out under fluoroscopy that my band had slipped. He took the fill out and after almost 12 months (and 40lbs weight gain) I went back in for my fill (about 5 weeks ago). This was done under fluoroscopy and he did state that my band was still "mildly slipped" so we'd see. Well, I'm back to not being able to eat anything solid at all and horrid reflux. I'm going to ask him to take imy band out when I see him next week. I have no clue whether the insurance will cover that surgery much less converting it to a bypass but I'll attempt to get it covered. Otherwise, I guess I'll just go back to my old self!

    Frozen Yogurt?Essential or Evil

I have not seen much posted about non-fat frozen yogurt? Which I must confess, I find somewhat surprising...so it has led me to ask. Is there some inherent evil associated with this diet friendly treat and the Lapband? An inquiring mind wants to know… I am planning on it being part of my post-op repertoire…or so I think? Second, it may just be my imagination, but it seems (no scientific data), that many of the newer banders are struggling with post-op weight gain and slow starts. While a few fortunate souls are making rapid progress, again the individual variable strikes…no two banders are the same. No real point to make…just an observation. Other than that it was a good gym day and we went to the Long Beach Grand Prix and got to meet Danica Patrick. Yes, she is as adorable in person. I am sorry to report, that they had the good corners of the drifting competition reserved for the VIP seats. The events held at Irwindale Speedway are much better, the venue is easier to get to and the layout is more crowd friendly. I everyone had a good weekend.

    Alcohol

Alcohol was one of the main causes of my weight gain so I've been avoiding it like the plague. It does a number on your social life, but it's worth it because I feel soooo much better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Wow you lost that very quick! I think time will help heal that lousy self image some. But the fact of matter is we all need to work on self love through this journey. We need to love our imperfect selves. something I think a lot of us didn't do in the past, and possibly lead us to the weight gain.. Love your imperfect self take joy in moving, breathing easier and Celebrate the journey that you are on
  19. Hi everyone - I've been a member for some weeks now but have just gotten comfortable posting here and there. About me: I am a military wife and thanks to my amazing, selfless and just all-around wonderful hubby and his military service, I have Tricare (United Healthcare Military West) insurance and I'm about to get my surgery date. My weight gain began when I left my father's house and entered into the real world sans maids, which meant no regular healthy meals prepared on schedule every day which is how I grew up. I was 125lbs at 21 but by the time I got married in 2009 at 23, I was 201. End of that year I was 231. Between 2010 and 2012 I began Zumba and became a certified personal trainer and got down to 181 and was quite happy there until I dislocated my knee cap one day at the gym. This led to some serious weight gain and I was at 240lbs. So I decided to do Optifast through Kaiser (medically supervised) which I did and got back to 207 by June 2013. Well, around this time my knee started bugging me again so I had surgery to repair the damage from the initial dislocation. I gained 20lbs right after surgery in October 2013. My husband had just returned from his 2nd deployment and I had promised him that when he got back we could finally have a baby. I didn't know before he left that I would have surgery but a promise is a promise right? Jan 2014 I was pregnant and we welcomed our lovely daughter in September 2014. I left the hospital at 310 lbs. fast forward to now, I have gotten myself down to 282. I've been going up and down from 252 and 282 this whole year. I decided in mid November that I would finally have the surgery. Met with Bariatrician on 12/1 - said I'm a good candidate and that after talking to Tricare reps, was informed that my 6 months on the Kaiser program from 2013 meets the insurance requirement of having a documented attempt at weight loss before approval, so I was told I needed to have one dietician visit to complete requirements. Had EKG same day. She also put in an order for pre-op labs, GI, etc. 12/2 - Met with surgeon (amazing dr!!!) and he agreed that I was a great candidate and he was especially interested to see my results as far as my knee issue. 12/3 - had psych eval and was told no red flags and that I would be recommended for surgery. 12/4 - had labs, chest X-ray and scheduled GI X-ray for 12/11. Dietician appt. is 12/8 - will receive pre and post diet instructions, information on general eating, as well as final green light to be scheduled by surgeon. Was told surgery will most likely be mid January so fingers crossed for that! It's moving faster than I expected and I'm really excited. There's a lot of good information on the forum and I can't wait to learn more and share more. Especially looking forward to joining a monthly group once I find out my surgery date. God bless you all on your journeys!
  20. my name is jerry, and this is my journey.all this started because of a bad motorcycle accident that happened in aug 20 2009.i was in a coma for 3 weeks, then spent the next 7 months in the hospital/nursing home.i had my femur broken in 10 places, crushed knee, shattered left arm, broken left ankle.due to my injuries i was placed on a 4000 calorie high protien diet,to help heal my injuries.without being able to exercise i gained 140 lbs.i was a fairly large guy to begin with, but the extra weight gain really took its toll.slowly i began to walk, with a walker, then after 18 months i started to use a cane.now i can walk without a cane.but with pain.i have been working out 4 times a week with weights, and 30min a day on a rucumbent bicycle.i have lost 85 lbs.i satarted the sleeve process 10 months ago,and finally got my surgery date feb 22.today i started the pre op diet, consisting of mainly liquids, and soft food.what did everyone else do for their pre op diet, what did you eat? any good ideas would be greatly appreciated. thank you

  22. Hi was banded like 4 yrs ago. Lost weight , gained back due to injury, broken back and more. Usually smoothies and soup are all I keep down. Throw up a lot, and I know there's hardly any liquid in the balloon. I guess check back with Dr? My prior Dr passed away. Any ideas for healthy breakfast smoothie even if it has green stuff in it😀
  23. A few weeks ago I got the insurance approval from Cigna and my doctor said a surgery date for October 17th of this year was approximately is about 52 days from now... Yesterday, much to my surprise, I got a call from my doctor saying that there was a cancellation and that they were wondering if I wanted to move my surgery date up to September 19th of this year which is 23 days from now... I had a moment where I got really nervous and fearful and a little panicky going from 52 days to 23 days and 10 seconds is quite a lot to prepare yourself for dot dot dot worrying about my bills and the time off from work and this and that took me by surprise... And then I took a deep breath and I realize that in 23 days my life will be completely different... Little back story about me I grew up very active I played softball my whole life I went to state twice I went to college on a softball scholarship and have numerous trophies from weightlifting where I still currently hold the record and woman squats at 425 pounds and bench press @ 140 pounds at my high school... So to say that I was always very sick would be an understatement although I was still Baker I guess my goal weight is 135 140 whereas in high school I was around 1:55 160 but I was very strong I had a lot of muscle... And then I went to college and I just started gaining weight I still worked out I still was his ass if I just could not lose weight I didn't know what was going on I just thought it was a really bad case of the Freshman 15 then I started noticing that I wasn't having a menstrual cycle or it was very irregular and about three years of going through weight gain fluctuating and all that I went to the doctor... I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome when I was 21 in 3 years I had gained 80 pounds and I went from 162 to 240 pounds... I had always been active I still was active I just couldn't go to sleep we tried various options of metformin and hormone supplements to try to treat all didn't work I didn't lose any way you could just got sick... I waited 5 years... 5 years to go back to the doctor because I was ashamed of myself I was afraid they were going to tell me that I was incredibly unhealthy and that I was doing something wrong finally after 3 years of not actually having a single menstrual cycle and went to the doctor... I told them that I have had a personal trainer for 12 months who also help me with nutrition and meal planning and in that 12 months I have lost 7 pounds that was it I work out 5 times a week for 90 minutes and all I lost was 7 pounds when I went to the doctor I went for a weight loss supplements... And that was when he weighed me and that my biggest I was 288 pounds with a BMI of 49.5... And that's when it hit me I went from a BMI of 9 249.5 in less than 10 years... He didn't hit me with some statistics on my family history and blood pressure and the fears of cancer for people with polycystic ovarian syndrome in my family history and then he hit me with the biggest statistic I've ever heard... Without bariatric surgery, my chances of conceiving a child was that a mere 8%... I can handle being big I can handle high blood pressure and maybe people staring at me and looking at me like I'm huge for people from high school not recognizing me but it was the thought of never having my own child that sent me over the edge that was when I decided that this was it something that I could delay any longer sure when I was 21 and the last thing on my mind was having a child that has a seizure at 26 it's a very real... So in April I decided that I was going to have bariatric surgery I did everything that my doctor asked and then some followed insurance policies and procedures and in the Five Short months I got approval now to some people this is a chance to look at it as Samantha a chance to fit into that little black dress that makes them feel sexy to have people's head turn and look at you and just say wow look at her but when I got the call saying that I got approval and my surgery date I cried because it was a group of individuals telling me that I get a chance to be a mom I am so happy... I'm so relieved that this is something that I did my life has not been easy I've had to fight tooth and nail for everything that I have and for once I feel like something's on my side I know this is going to be the hardest thing that I've ever had to do but hard things seem a little bit easier when you know that at the end of the line there's a happy ending... I know I can't have children for two years after that surgery and it's going to put you right at the right age when I want to... The surgery means so much more to me then just looking good... This is my happily ever after. this is my chance to be the me that I was supposed to be all along and to be one hell of a mother... Just wanted to share with everybody I might be going through the same thing that I am... Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App
  24. When someone loses weight, gets a better education, has more money, moves to a better area, drives a flasher car...It's called Status and suddenly you are perceived as being more Successful ! There are plenty of people who don't want u to do better or to improve your self. When someone is moving up in there life, your Status ranking has changed. This can challenge so called family and friends because it means they will have to make more effort either with there weight or there behaviour toward 's you. As you will be perceived as having more options. Beautiful slim people are perceived as having preferential treatment. So many people think WLS is a magic and easy way to weight loss. It isn't U still have to work at it !!! The only way u can gain weight after WLS is by not sticking to the rules I am 5years out i have gained 14kg in less than a year my personal life has been a mess so i am sorting that out plus working on getting rid of the weight gain

    Is my band slipping?

I've been banded 2 years and recently had a 20+ lb weight gain after being within 40lbs of goal. So here I am, 60 to loose again. I went in for a long over-due fill 2 weeks ago. My fills have always gone smoothly, and I only once had to get an unfill as I wasn't able to get liquids down. I am not one of those quirky people who doesn't feel the affect of the fill till a week later, etc. Sunday night I was stupid and ate 2 fish tacos with really spicy salsa. Took me over an hour, but I got them down. Ever since I've been having coughing fits at night, having a hard time even with liquids, although I get them down. It's different then when I was too tight, it's a constant dull pain that is really annoying. Does this sound like slippage? I've been doing liquids the past 2 days to play it safe. If i'm not better I'll call my doc tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyone who has slipped had any of these symptoms?
