  1. I just got revised to a sleeve March 17th and I have had a really easy recovery so far. I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. No nausea, easy to drink, little pain. Give yourself a week of intensive caring for yourself and lots of rest, but unless you are lifting over 20lbs at work I think it is totally possible. I don't currently work outside of my kids at home but I felt fine after maybe day 5??? Good luck!

    Can't drink Protein, HELP!

Not sure if you have Kroger by you but they have this CARBMASTER MILK! Chocolate, Plain and Vanilla, 8 onz has 11 grams of Protein and 60 Calories. I know you need more but you could maybe mix protein powder with it. A Christmas I used it with Egg Beaters to make Eggnog. I told a friend of mine who's daughter has medical issues she was talking how her girl needed more protein but wouldn't drink ensure etc. I told her and she loves it. Tastes like regular chocolate milk. I mentioned it to my Dr he said it was find but as space is at a premium perhaps mix some additional unflavored protein powder with it. I currently have a band and am having a sleeve revision in May.
  3. I had a vbg in 2005 and suffered sickness and bloating ever since. I was told that I had a problem that surgery cannot solve insinuating that it was all in my head. In February 2017 they finally discovered that my staple line has come undone and that my gastric band was not allowing much to pass through. They are looking to revise my original op to a roux en y. . Has anyone else had similar problems

    Cash pay?

My Dr In NC is now doing the Sleeve for $9998.00 In part because there are many band people who can get them removed under insurance but will not pay for the revision. I would check around at some of the major Bariatric enters in the area. Some are doing them in out patient facilities that are actually nicer than a Hospital setting

    Band revision for 5/31/17

Hi Glad I found this. I just scheduled my Band to Sleeve revision for May 5th. And I am nervous as the reality is sinking in. My Doctor does them together, he never mentioned two surgery. But in our meeting today he said the new stomach is 1/4 of the old one For some reason I thought he had said it would be 1/3, This difference seems little but kind of through me. Perhaps because I had the Band before, really not sure. I have to go to see the PA a few weeks prior to surgery as we are over the 4 week cut off which is OK. The PA actually is more of a optimistic, actually the PA has been the one who first suggested the revision and how knowing my history and compliance he thought it would really help me. I really only saw the DR a few times in the last 8 years as i mainly saw the PA, The Dr you have to wait literally hours and hours!
  6. GmaDiana Thanks for the response! So you've not had any issues then? That's great. Where were you weight/health wise before you had the revision? Was anything different eating wise afterward? The Dr. said my pouch might be much smaller... Thanks Bearhugs for the words of encouragement!
  7. @Navigating the Wilderness Some doctor's do it as one procedure, mine did not. Apparently, if you do the procedure as an all-in-one revision, the risk for a leak doubles to 2%. As it is, my sleeve is a little bit larger than a "virgin" sleever -- because of the band, the surgeon doesn't feel comfortable making the sleeve as small.
  8. Ins may pay for removal which is easer to justify but you may have to cover revision
  9. Hi just came from dr to schedule my revision. Actually he was asking me about what I sent to get them to approve. It is hard. I later was told they sen 160 pages of documentation. And yes they check off from there list. For me after the rejection and Pier review they questioned a year that I had not seen the Bariatric Dr. But I had other dr notes and pages of compliance records.

    Revision from band to sleeve

That is probably good news, it should help with getting insurance to go for the revision. Keep us informed, and stay positive!!

    Weight loss

That's awesome!! Thank you for writing back to me! My revision is 1 week away. I have my pre surgical apts tomorrow. How has eating changed for you? With my band if I ate too fast or too much I would get a terrible stuck feeling and have to vomit. My band did get so tight that I couldn't even keep soup down so now that my band has been I filled I've had to start over with no restriction. People say they get a burp or hick up when their rny pouch is full, do you have the same?
  12. Hello, This is my first post so I'm very new here. I'm having my lapband out this Wednesday and going for the sleeve 5/31/17. I was looking for some advice/information from people who have lived through the whole procedure already. I'm currently 205 and gaining no matter what I do. I'm so stressed out that I'll gain a lot of weight between 3/29 and 5/31 that it's all I can think about! I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance and also, I have my wedding this October. I know I'm smaller than most people who have gotten the sleeve but I've struggled my entire life and I'm ready to get this tool to help me finally succeed, as the band did nothing for me except make me throw up every day for the last 2 years. Does anyone suffer from the same things (PCOS & IR) as me? Have you found success? Any advice from anyone is much, much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Amanda

    Revision from band to sleeve

Well hell, that does suck. Yeah, Lapbands work for some people I suppose, I had mine for 5 years before I gave up on it. In quick terms, within 6 weeks of being sleeved I had lost 5 more pounds than I ever lost in the 5 years I was banded, so your situation is not abnormal. Will insurance cover it, IDK. It would depend on your insurance, soI would call them. I had to go through the whole six month BS before the lap band, but to revise to a sleeve I only needed to do 3 months. I'm sure every carrier is different. Either way, I wish you the best of luck, and results!!
  14. @ren0318 I am so glad that you are moving along on this! Wow, that is a lot of acid. Good luck on the revision process.

Hello everyone my revision to RNY April 11th. Starting ore op liquid diet on Tuesday. Congrats to everyone on joining the losers bench really soon. What shakes did you guys purchase for liquid diet?
  16. @SheaLilu @Tina Rosas hello ladies I'm having surgery 4/11 let's keep in touch. This will be a revision for me from sleeve to RNY. I START. Y 1 week liquid diet on the 4th and starting to collect the chewable vitamins I will need post surgery and other things I need for my liquid diet next week.
  17. I had band to sleeve revision on March 6th. I went back to work on March 17th. So I took 11 days. I have a physical job as a LVT. But me I'm not good with nothing to do and may have gone back sooner as I was very bored and restless. For me pain was minimal, I did not have any pain meds after the first night. Yes still hurt when I got up and down and especially in and out of bed and trying to get comfortable, but the pain was self limiting so no need for pain meds. I'm 3 weeks out and I do still have a little pain every so often in my right side, but nothing crazy

    Gastric Sleeve vs Gastric Bypass

It's funny, my surgeon is actually a huge fan of RNY (by admission of other surgeons and nurses that deal with him) yet virtually everyone I've met with him as their surgeon suggests lately he's recommended VSG far more often than not. Sufficed to say, if my reflux worsens, I know who I'm yelling at for a revision.
  20. II had my appointment today, it looks like I'm headed to revision --sleeve to bypass! I'm still letting that sink in. When Dr. Noria performed my endoscopy, my test showed that my acid levels were at 75.3!!!! Anything over 14 is acid. My body naturally produces high amounts of acid. I've not achieved full remission of my diabetes either. And I'm back on a blood pressure pill and a Satin..She seems confident that this is the right move. My highest weight before surgery was 234LBs, I lost 15lbs on the liver shrink diet, and I've only lost 38lbs since I had surgery ( I a not minimizing the 38 lbs. I know that any loss is good, but I think you know what I mean). I was a lower BMI before I started but to get my BMI to under obese I still need to lose 30lbs! She feels the revision will do the trick. I pray she is right!. Now we will wait for insurance approval and move on to what's next.

    Lost in weight loss

Just remember where you were before and the work it took to get where you are now. If you didn't have the surgery would you have maintained for 3 years? I know how you feel I want to lose more but after nearly 6 years of maintaining I am so glad to be where I am now. All revisions don't work perfectly so if you are only doing it to be a size or two smaller I would think very long and hard about it. Good Luck
  22. So I was banded November 29th last year...it hasn't even been 6 months but I have not lost a pound. I've had 3 fills and really am able to still eat whatever I want. My surgeon and many other doctors have told me that I need to consider revising to the sleeve. I've started that process and I'm just wondering is my insurance actually going to cover this? My surgery wasn't even six months ago! I'm totally down and am jumping right on taking care of the requirements. Any advice for me?? I have blue cross blue shield of Illinois.
  23. Thanks. Yea I've been hanging around this 250-260 for years. But coming from 300 plus and needing the band out I'm so concerned about just having the band removed without any revision. As the band is empty it's more comfortable but getting harder. I'm Am concerned long term about the band.
  24. Well back again, I have my Results Review to set up my revision Tuesday. My wife is not thrilled with the thought. It doesn't help that I had foot surgery 2 weeks ago, the Bone has healed well but the incision is still sore, So she is not excited and is very fearful of the revision, She would prefer I just have the band taken out. I am looking to have the revision done in may and would do both the removal and revision at one time. It doesn't help that she had lunch with a friend who's husband is in medical surgical equipment and told her about how they do the surgery etc. and she thinks I well be depressed as we entertain a lot and I wont be able to eat. I too am still thinking going back and forth with this. Again I have such a long history of Family and personal struggle with weight. The band was a good decision in that i have kept off a good amount of weight for 8 Years, and have adopted a much better life style. (I can't wait to get back to the gym and pool.) But the band has had it's issues, I am going to be 60 this year also. For some time now I drink Protein shakes and have to drink with meals as the pouch is painful even if i have a few bites - due to pouch issues. I am concerned that with out anything I might regain more weight. I know that Eventually will need knee replacement and can't afford to be any heaver. I see other family members who are now older and very overweight having so many issues to get around. I also have friends who have struggled with weight up and down 100/lbs and can not consider WLS as they now have other medical issues. The older one gets the more harder to recover etc. Also I've reached my out of pocket max for the year. (Knee injections, Foot Surgery, and all the Pre Op tests) I have kind of been thinking about this for years wanting to get these last Lbs off but also somewhat comfortable with how I am. But with so many visits to have Fluid put in and out and now my band is empty and Dr.says no more fills and the band needs to come out. My primary care Dr is OK with it but says realize you can have a huge thanksgiving meal. My Knee Dr set a letter that I needed it also. I have been so compliant insurance has agreed to pay for the revision. I have been praying and thinking on this for some time. My thought was that if ins approved it I would go ahead and now that they have i am concerned that i am tempting fate, as I am generally in good shape but would be helpful to looks additional 30/lbs or so. My Daughter was also banded a number of years ago but regained her weight , she actually was the first to start the revision process as she has 2 friends who have the sleeve a few yrs ago and have done well. She started WW back in Aug, while she started the revision process. Ultimately she was not approved Because of non compliance but has now lost 85/lbs on her own! She is very strict but she too is thinking she may need to do something later as she has been through this before and doesn't know if she can keep it off. She is encouraging me to get the sleeve as she know how I work out and have kept a good amount of weight off, She thinks I will do well with it. She says her friends who are a few years out generally eat 1/2 of what is served in a restaurant (Which is often what I do, unless its a salad). Even thought i don't have any fill I have some restriction but am definitely more hungry. Hopefully my Dr will put both of us at ease Any words of encouragement?
  25. Not a sleeve. I am getting revised from a sleeve to a bypass on the 20th! Good luck!! I am crazy nervous, how are you holding up?
