Looking for thoughts and recs for breast + arm lift.
catwoman7 replied to questin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
O he's actually the only surgeon I've ever read about on these forums who's said that. Anyone else who's mentioned that their surgeon said anything about the gain/loss thing after plastic surgery has said they were warned a 10-15 lb gain either way will affect results. I don't know that there's been any research on this to know for absolute sure, but since there's evidently some difference in opinion, I'd sure want to be at a fairly stable weight before taking the plunge (and ms.sss, I know you and I have had this discussion before, so I'm just reiterating it for the sake of the OP) -
K, my pee journey was/is a little weird (not sure how much is wls-related or age...) Pre-wls, I peed all the time. I could not hold it for very long once I felt the urge, and I wold get up 3-4 times a night to go (I drank lots of liquids all day long). Post-wls, I developed what I affectionately called my new-found peeing superpower. I could sleep the entire night without having to go once. I could hold my pee for HOURS. I remember going on a 5-6 hour flight about a year post-op and both me and Mr. marvelled at how I didn't visit the bathroom once (a flight of this duration would usually call for a visit to the toilet every hour). I still drank lots all day long. No...post-POST-wls (2.5 years out now), I've noticed that my peeing frequency has increased in the past 6-9 or so months. I don't pee as much as pre-wls, but way more than I did that first year or so. I also notice that once I feel the need to go, I need to go...I can't hold it as long as soon as I acknowledge it. I dunno if its become psycho-sematic, because I also notice that if I go by a toilet, I just feel like I should go since I'm there, and I actually can. Sometimes it's just drips, but I still go nonetheless. I still don't need to get up in the middle of the night, so I don't think its too much of an issue. I still drink lots all day long. P.S. Oddly enough, I used to pee a little if I coughed or sneezed pre-wls, but no longer since the weight loss. P.P.S. I also often don't feel like I've fully emptied my bladder...but this is also a recent thing (past 6-9 months)

Why did you pick such a high goal weight? Your BMI is STILL overweight!
momof3_angels replied to Creekimp13's topic in Rants & Raves
So very true! I don't know why people are so worried when people are doing things to better their health! Even before WLS... I found things that "worked" better than others. For example, I struggled with major/severe exhaustion because of my then undiagnosed sleep apnea/ insomnia - so I was so tired I went to bed at 8 pm most nights (also was a very early riser). During that time, I found that I couldn't lose weight if I ate after 4 pm. OMG... the HORROR... I wasn't eating for the last 4 hours of my evening?!!! Yet several of my friends stayed up until 10/11 and didn't eat past 6/7pm. So, what is the difference?! I mean, I ate plenty throughout the day... just not at the END of the day. And drinking calories. If I had one bad nutrition habit, that was it. So I would do my best to avoid calorie filled drinks during any weight loss plan I had. And more importantly... I found I could NEVER lose weight and often gained if I drank any alcohol. Even just half a glass of wine. So I would go to a party and do my best not to drink alcohol. My friends were losing it because I didn't want to get drunk with them. They couldn't handle if I didn't drink anything or just had half a glass of wine. I actually had to ditch some friends that I used to love hanging out with because they couldn't handle that I wasn't willing to give in and drink with them every single time we got together. And exercise? Well... I hate most exercise lol. But I love my long walks. People think I am crazy because my go to walk is 6 miles and takes 1 hour and 45 minutes and they just don't get it. But I enjoy it. It is hardly a workout for me, but I feel great afterwards. But somehow it is wrong for me to take my long walks. People are crazy the way they react to others. -
Looking for thoughts and recs for breast + arm lift.
ms.sss replied to questin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I started having consults the month I reached goal (7 months post-op) with the intention of getting it done in a couple months. Turns out my doc was booked up, so I had to wait anyway. I ended up getting arm lift, breast lift and tummy tuck 6.5 months into maintenance (14 months post-op over all). In retrospect its good that there was a wait time because I ended up losing another 15-ish lbs by the time PS surgery came around. My doc did say that in terms of effect on results, weight loss results in more effect on results than weight gain. The reason being that scar tissue may not shrink as well as it expands. My PS was done in Dec 2019, and I'm supremely happy that I had it done. Having tight arms in tank tops and being able to go braless in a tube top is pure joy, lol. P.S. I had mine done in Canada, so I can offer no personal recommendations. I do hear that Columbia is an inexpensive and reliable place to consider though. -
RNY because of GERD, not weight loss?
Studio54 replied to AmandaQB's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went into this from the beginning for Roux-en-Y only to correct my reflux. Talk about some mixed emotions!!! I understand. I felt like I was being punished in order to cure my absolutely severe acid issue. But I couldn’t keep sleeping upright in a chair my whole life, am I esophagus already had erosion despite medicine! 😯 Tomorrow is 5 weeks post op. I have not had heartburn in five weeks and it almost seems like a dream. On top of that from starting my meal replacement two weeks before surgery until now I’ve lost 40 pounds. This past week my own daughter and boyfriend didn’t recognize me from a distance across the parking lot... So the weight loss is a win-win 😃 -
Sleevers....What brand multi vitamin are you taking?
S@ssen@ch replied to Tim C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Tim C At some point after surgery, I returned to "normal" vitamins. I'd estimate it was between 6 months to 1 year. I took multivitamins and supplements for a long time before surgery. At almost 3 years out, I take a lot of 'supplements' for various things, but my basic vitamin/mineral regime consists of: Women's One-A-Day, 1 caplet, with my evening meal Citracal, 2 caplets, with my morning meal Hair-Skin-Nails, 1 caplet, twice a day (with morning and evening meal) Magnesium, 1 caplet, with my evening meal PS: I would probably be taking this regime regardless of whether I had gastric sleeve surgery. -
they're very common during weight loss. I think your body has to stop every once in awhile to "recalibrate" before going on. It happens to almost everyone.

Hypothyroidism and gastric sleeve
catwoman7 replied to s11rony303's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd lost 52 lbs when I was at point where you are now, and I DON'T have hypothyroidism. the others are right, never compare yourself to other people. Your rate of weight loss is dependent on so many factors, most of which you have little to no control over (e.g. age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic rate, genetics, whether or not you lost weight prior to surgery...). The two factors you DO have control over are how closely you stick to your clinic's eating plan and your activity level. If you do well with those, and your general weight trend is down, then you're good. and btw - I lost over 200 lbs, so being a slow vs fast loser, in the long run, makes no difference. Your level of commitment is what makes the difference in your ultimate success. -
I think absolutely everyone should consider seeing the bariatric therapist. For me...that relationship...has been as beneficial as the surgery in my weight loss effort.

Hypothyroidism and gastric sleeve
BigSue replied to s11rony303's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What was your starting weight/BMI? If you started with a BMI on the low end (~40), you're not going to lose as quickly as someone with a much higher BMI. But in any event, 55 pounds in 4.5 months is great. There are a lot of factors that can affect weight loss rate, so you shouldn't worry about how quickly you lose it, as long as you are still losing. Are you on thyroid medication and have you had your bloodwork checked recently? I have hypothyroidism (I take medication for it) and I had gastric bypass, not sleeve, but my weight loss has been good. -
Only one person knows about my first WL procedure (assuming she hasn't told anyone), she'd had a lapband many years ago, so knows of weight loss struggles. I didn't tell anyone of my revision procedure, some people may suspect something but haven't directly asked. I chose to go the privacy route because essentially it isn't any one's else business, I didn't tell all and sundry when I went through very early menopause, why is WLS any different. For these reasons no one ignores my WLS or any struggles I may experience or may have experienced, put simply they don't know. I can't say I've ever felt ignored on bariatricpal, I may have had a post or two where nobody responsed, but that's fine if the post didn't or doesn't prompt someone to reply, it obviously doesn't/didn't gel with anyone, it is what it is. I do think profile status updates are more frequently not responded to vs forum posts, so if they are going unanswered better to post on the forums. Status updates aren't out in the public sphere in the same way our posts are, so generally quite a few probably go unanswered.

Hypothyroidism and gastric sleeve
Healthy_life2 replied to s11rony303's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have experience with hypothyroidism. 55 pounds is fantastic. Try not to compare your weight loss with other people. I know it hard, but it will drive you crazy. Many of us are slow losers'. Its no how fast you lose its the fact you are losing weight. I hope someone can share their experience. Hang in there😊 -
Hi! I had surgery on March 10th 2021. From 3 week Pre-op until now, I have lost a total of 19 pounds (nearing 6 weeks total time). I have not lost any weight in the last 10 days. I’ve spent a good period of time assuring myself by reading the great feedback on others posts about similar questions but, most suggest the 3 week stall and I have heard that the stall can happen 2-4 weeks post surgery. Has anyone ever heard of a stall basically right out of the gate? I am tracking - I am at 600 calories/day and 60g of protein. My Pre-Op Diet Start Weight was 257 and I am currently 238. Thanks in advance for the advice and feedback, a little challenging to not be discouraged!

How often do you weigh yourself?
Prestonandme replied to ruthpets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The scale keeps me aware of microtrends. I use MyFitnessPal to track my weight and I weigh daily. There have been three two-week intervals where I gained and lost 6-8 lbs. even though via food-tracking, I confirmed there was absolutely no change in my daily caloric intake. I reassured myself that these gain/losses were aberrations, not signs of actual weight gain. They could be explained by water retention, salt increase, medication changes, etc. So I look at 7 day, 30 day, 90 day, and 180 day trends. For the past six months, I've been relatively stable and I owe this to food diarying and daily weighing. -
You give me hope - I’m full-blown losing hair for 2 months now and it doesn’t feel like an end in sight.

1st Denial due to weight gain from medication
sleepyowl85 replied to sleepyowl85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m waiting to hear back from my doctors office. Friday I called my insurance company to ask questions and they had no idea what I was talking about. They have no record of anything being submitted for surgery. Wtf? And I don’t understand. Why make you jump through hoops. If I could lose and keep it off I wouldn’t ask for surgery. I’ve had 2 weight losses over 100 pounds, used to work out like crazy. I just can’t seem to keep it off. It’s not fair. I’m tired of being fat. -
Looking for thoughts and recs for breast + arm lift.
catwoman7 replied to questin's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
if you want to go to Mexico, Dr Francisco Sauceda in Monterrey and Dr. Laura Carmina Cardenas in Tijuana are very well-known in bariatric circles. They've worked on A LOT of bariatric patients and specialize in massive weight loss patients. Dr. Joseph Capella in New Jersey has also operated on a lot of us (and specializes in massive weight loss patients, too), and his prices seem reasonable compared to a lot of other US surgeons (haven't seen anything recent on him, though) several people here have gone to Miami for plastic surgery because supposedly it's one of the cheapest areas in the country for that - I don't know any names, but a few people on here have gone there and can probably give you some recommendations. The prices they've gotten don't seem much more than the prices in Mexico oh - Dr. Joseph Michaels in Rockville, MD has also been used by a lot of bariatric patients I personally would look for someone who specializes in body contouring for massive weight loss patients or at least has done a BOATLOAD of them, because it supposedly is a complicated sub-specialty. -
Post-op Portions help (1 month out)
Tim C replied to katherineheartburn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on your weight loss, 28#'s in 4 weeks is incredible. I have lost almost 40 lbs since 1/25 when I got the call about scheduling surgery on 1/25. I have lost 23 lbs since surgery on 2/23. I hve been able to drink fluids pretty much normally since surgery. I too can eat almost a cup of food with out pushing it or getting sick feeling. I am eating about 1000 cals a day. -
Stopped losing weight.
blackcatsandbaddecisions replied to Akiisha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled around that point too, then eventually dropped weight quickly after the stall broke. If you’re eating the right number of calories for weight loss then don’t worry, your body has to give in eventually. It can just be stubborn sometimes! -
How often do you weigh yourself?
blackcatsandbaddecisions replied to ruthpets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 10 years of data on my fitness pal showing me that every time I stop weighing myself routinely then I have a dramatic spike in weight. I’m very head-in-the-sand about weight gain, so I know I have to keep an eye on it. Normally I would be a once-a-day weigher, but since I’m in active weight loss right now I’m trying to limit it to 2-3x a week. That way I can (usually) see the scale drop at least a little each time and I don’t drive myself crazy with fluctuations. -
Why did you pick such a high goal weight? Your BMI is STILL overweight!
ThisMomOf5 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Rants & Raves
Whoever said that was out of line. Your posts have been so timely for me being 1 month post op and just starting my journey! I too have chosen a higher goal weight. My NUT excitedly told me she can get me to 145 or 150 and I said no thanks. I am larger framed and pretty muscular under all this fat. Last year I had a body scan that said I have 145lbs of organs, muscle and bone under all the fat and water! Of course with fat loss I will lose some muscle but I’ll try to minimize that. Always been into sports and working out only lately the weight has made it so painful and hard. My 15 yo daughter who is built the same as me without the fat weighs 150 and she has serious abs and no curves (Dont tell her I said that! Luckily she won’t be reading this!!). I remember being happiest with my weight when I was 160-170. Clothes looked good, I felt good and I still had a boobs and a round butt. Ultimately whatever weight gets me to that point again is my true goal. Nice to see other like minded people out there! -
More susceptible to COVID after surgery?
mae7365 replied to Mark P3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually called my surgeon's office who said the doctor would not write me an "at risk" note to be eligible for the vaccine (criteria for those under 65 in Florida at the time). Told me that surgery and rapid weight loss did not put me at high risk. I was a little "pissed". Called my primary care doctor who had a letter ready for me to pick up that afternoon. Had the first vaccine shot the next day. Then I go in for my 3 month post op appointment, actually see the surgeon, who immediately asked if I got vaccinated and did I need a note? Moral of the story - I don't think his office staff even asked him when I first called. That "pissed me off" too. -
That’s great! My hair loss started at about 2.5 months out. I was pulling out so much hair just brushing my fingers through. I was scared to put it in a pony tail for days after that, but I’m back to the pony. I don’t like my hair in my face when I’m working or doing anything of importance. Enjoy Autumn!

I agree that it would probably be a bad idea during the weight loss phase and even worse idea during healing phase. If your anything like me you may not be able to control the cravings and you could hurt yourself. But I’m sure Down the road that won’t be an issue but there may be another medical reason to not do it. I would ask your doctor just in case.

You really CAN talk to your doctor about this. They're not going to report anything and they will answer your questions honestly. I live in a legal state, and I like pot once in a while. I didn't try it again until two years after surgery (sleeve, not bypass), and I only do it once in a blue moon...but I've had no issues, with one exception....it does make me want to mindlessly snack and chocolate and grapes taste INCREDIBLE while on it (the flavor and satisfaction of certain foods is tremendously amplified)...LOL...so, I really have to watch the snacking! That might be enough of a problem that doctors discourage it? They do make the THC transdermal patches. Maybe something like this could help you even if they don't want it in your digestive tract for the first year? But again...the munchies are not something you want while healing, or during loss phase....so it might be more defeating than helpful. Please talk to your doctor. I'm sure s/he has heard the question before and won't think it's any big deal. Best advice on this will come from professionals.
