    Calories at One Year

Congratulations on your amazing progress! You should be SO proud of yourself! I am in a similar quandary, and am meeting with a new nutritionist next week to get some guidance. I work out hard (triathlon and strength training) a minimum of 6 days per week, and twice per day on most days. I take in about 1000-1300 calories per day, and my target split is 30% Protein, 35% fat, 35% carbs. I had surgery 14 months ago and I'm just 1.8 pounds away from my goal, but feel like I'm overdue for switching from bariatric-weight-loss mode of eating into athlete-fueling mode. I tried to talk this through with the nutritionist on my bariatric team and she didn't have a clue how to advise me. Thus, I'm meeting with a sports nutritionist next Thursday. I'll let you know what I learn!

    Uhhh 7wks post op!

I always wear the same type of clothing when I go. And I try to make all my appointments in the morning so that I can go on an empty stomach LOL!! I have been doing it this way since I started Weight Watchers when I was in 10th grade. (16 years go). Congrats on your loss!! #AWESOME

    after vacation...

Well, back from vacation. Had a good time, but it's always nice to come back home. A little dissapointed that I haven't lost any weight since surgery, I EAT SO LITTLE! I know I should walk more, I just don't have the energy. Still getting killer hunger pains in the middle of the night, still have big backaches that I think are brought on by being too full. "real food" seems to bring on the backaches. I wanted this band so bad, but it's so hard changing myself to fit into my band! I'm still the fat chick.:rolleyes2:
  6. Hi all! I was banded back in 2003, and it took me 2 years to reach my goal weight. Then came the great lap band slippage of 2005. I went for the corrective procedure and was told all was well, since then I have had nothing but trouble - I've regained 60lbs and can't seem to loose any of it. It's as though EVERYTHING I eat causes me to gain weight - even though my diet consists mostly of veggie Soup (cause its about all I can keep down) and I wake every night choking on reflux, not to mention the constant pain at the port site. So today i went back to my surgeon and as suspected, the band has slipped again. I've discussed my options with Dr.D and have decided the best plan for me is to remove the band and have the revision to a sleeve. Dr.D tells me that I have to remove the band, wait 3 months for my stomach to relax then have the sleeve done. I've tried to argue with him re; the 3 month rest period but considering he is the surgeon, and I have no idea about surgical matters, I didn't get very far in my attempts to get him to do the removal and sleeve in one surgery. Has anyone had the same experience - Band out, few months wait then sleeved? I'm so worried about the weight gain in those 3 months - can anyone share their story? Did you gain weight? How rapidly? Or how did you maintain your weight loss over that time? I'm not going to lie, this is terrifying me - so I thought I'd reach out to fellow banders for support!

    101 pounds gone FOREVER!

I had surgery on 3/25/13 but lost 30-25 pounds in the month before that. I've lost a total of 101 pounds as of this morning. I had my gall bladder taken out on Monday but other than that, I've had no problems/complications. I have really got to get some pictures linked in here to show some progress. My weight loss has really slowed down over the past month but seems like it has picked up since my gall bladder came out. Hopefully it will continue on down. I'd love to be below 200 by Christmas. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it goes!
  8. Hi! My name is Jennifer. I am 33. I am just starting my six month diet. I am looking for a friend who is at the same stage in the game. The clinic I go to is Roller weight loss and advanced surgery in Fayetteville, AR.

    Advice...

I have already talked to the nutritionist and she went over my food diary and said I was doing very good. My calories are set at 1500/ day Carbs are 173g/day Protein is set at 96g/day. I drink well over 8 cups a day of water. I have already talked to my surgical team about not losing weight but all they tell me is I need to lose something to show the insurance company I'm capable of losing.

Struggle To Get In Enough Calories

I think you are in an AWESOME position. It's all about restrictions. Just continue to eat right and get in your protein and vegetables - I wouldn't be concerned about the calorie in take as long as it is not too many. You shouldn't start any bad habits just to get in calories. As you loose weight your band will loosen up some which will allow you to eat a little more.
  11. Good day everyone! I am currently going on my 6th month pre-op "diet" and have yet to lose any weight. I have completely changed my eating habits and exercise 4-5 days a week(30min-1hr) and still don't lose anything! Anybody out there not lose weight pre-op? I'm at a loss(mentally) right now. I don't know what else I could do. I am no where close to getting my surgery date, as I have to wait for open enrollment time for insurance to switch or upgrade my current plan. Any advice or recommendations would be awesome!! Thank you!

My tip for my icecream addiction...

weight watchers fudge bars are 100 calories I think and they taste amazing.
  13. Amy, I Say the same thing to myself "will this be yet another failure?", I feel as if this is my last chance, the last opportunity and if I fail at it, then there is NOTHING that will help me. However, I try to tell to myself that this IS going to work and I CAN make it happen. If we follow the rules (probably the hardest thing EVER), but if we do, we will succeed! We have done it MANY times before, we have followed many diets and we have lost weight before, the LB will help us where we failed before! I wish you well and hope to hear about your successes!!! How 'bout them Stillers!

    Ugh, I'm getting scared!

You know I was thinking about being scared and i was reading in the complications thread about a gal who had to get her gallbladder out and she was so glad so now she wouldnt be sick anymore and she would start feeling better!! I think the difference is the type of surgeries...elective vs. HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!!! But if we think about the lap band as HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW because we need to feel better now...then maybe it wouldnt be so hard to swallow the fact that you are having surgery. I mean, if you didnt have the Lap band surgery and then 2 years from now you have to have open heart surgery because you have a heart attack because of the obesity and comorbidities, you would be glad that the doctor was going to fix your heart so you could live longer....I dont know, I am just ranting...I was scared too and I dont think there is anything anyone can say to make it better or the nervousness go away. But, I do know, that my doctor told me three years ago that if I didnt do something about my weight I would not be around in 10 years...So three years later...I was 7 years away from the ten year time frame...and I got scared...more scared than thinking about the surgery... You will get through it and then wonder why you were so nervous...thats how it always works.....but in the mean time....CONGRATULATIONS!! You are gonna be healthy:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Deanna

    Just checking in...5 month update!

Well...I have to admit that I often wonder if I'm losing fast enough, and am fearful that things will slow down to the point that I never make my goal. I don't exercise (like, at all), and am not exactly conscientious about Protein (or snacking), so all things considered, I suppose I can't expect a faster pace of weight loss than that which I have been experiencing -- which seems to be the "right" pace, from what I've been told. SueAZ, I was wondering -- when was your surgery?

    STALLS!!! [emoji35]

So I'm 4 weeks post op & I have been eating soft foods just fine for about a week. However, I think I may have hit a stall? My weight has been fluctuating between 5lbs since about the start of week 3. It'll go up 5lbs, then back down. But for the last few days, it's been fluctuating just a few ounces. Can someone tell me if I've hit a stall? I'm not sure if a stall means your weight just stays the same, or if you're not losing anymore past a certain point. I'm quite frustrated but I'm trying not to be because #1 I've just started eating soft foods. #2, it's still early & #3 I should just stay off the scale. Though, inches wise, I'm not losing either. It's just frustrating because I'm working out, eating a sufficient amount of calories, and the only thing I can think of is Protein. Maybe I'm not getting in enough (I don't get in the recommended 60 daily ) I guess my ultimate question is: Is this normal to stall this early on?! When did you stall?! How did you break it? 17. Michael, I am new to this forum and new to the sleeve. My surgery date was 4/11/16. I was scared to make the step toward the sleeve. As you I was always involved in many sports. It just got to the point where I was active and my weigh never moved. I am 38 and my highest weight was 340. That was my active football lineman weight. Lol. I started my two week pre-op diet and lost at least 25 pounds in those two weeks. Mostly by cutting carbs but especially the calories. I even thought about backing out on surgery since my weight was finally going down. But I decided to see through my journey and had surgery. I am one week post op and am down to 288. So far I have no regrets and am here to answer any other questions you may have. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Happy New Year All!

Glad you are targeting getting back on track. I know after awhile I will get tired for protein drinks, but it is a quick meal and does provide the protein I need to sustain my new body. Plus it helps in hair growth and nails. I did get off track on xmas and up to new years eve, but today, i'm on track. Happy New Year keep up the weight loss.

    Back on track

I've decided to get back on track too . I started yesterday. It was Monday ( (the best day to begin something new) and the Christmas holidays are over at last! Here in Italy they're too long and too full of food. I was banded on May 10th 2011. Over the first year I lost 55 kilos, but from then onwards I started to slowly gain back weight. ..20 kilos. You will succeed. So will I
  21. My story is I was over weight since I was little. I have lost and gained so many times. I finally found out our insurance paid for the surgery. I told my parents I was seeing a nutritionist, as I run a home daycare and my mom is my back up provider. I went to the seminar in January followed all the appts needed by my insurance and had surgery on June 15. I lost about 10 lbs before surgery and since I have lost 34 1/2 lbs. I am excited that I have so much energy. I walk 5-6 days a week about 3-4 miles. I am eating just about anything I want. But I can only eat about 3 ozs at a time. Drinking all the water I can. I can not stand protein shakes and have not drank a single one since surgery. I am only eating protein and getting just as much as I was before surgery. I didn't eat a lot of meat before surgery, so I think my body is used to it. I went out and bought an up Jawbone which keeps track of your steps, activity levels, and food intake. I bought my husband one too and you can compete for who can take the most steps as he is dieting too. I have gotten sick a few times from eating something that didn't set well with my new tummy. But I have been doing great! I ate lettus and tomatoes on my meat yesterday for the first time and have not had an issue. I love me some tomatoes, so I was excited! Hope everyone else is doing good!

    Help!

I think you're right to put your question here and i hope you get some good info but...I would tell this to your Doc just as you have said it here and see what he says. My Doc has his NPs do all the fills (they are great and I have never been stuck more than once!) so maybe he could arrange it or even recommend someone else. Good luck, those fills are important...I know because I neglected them, thought I was fine because I maintained, and now with a big fill losing weight is so easy I want to laugh!
  24. I am pursuing surgery in Mexico mid November 2013 (next month). I have to buy a new individual health insurance policy on my state's exchange as soon as possible to start on January 1, 2014. My state is not going to cover bariatric surgery with exchange policies, but I did find out that our exchange policies will cover revisions to weight loss surgery if they are needed to correct a life-threatening condition. A big boasting point of the various "exchange" policies and ACA in general is that pre-existing conditions can no longer be excluded from insurance coverage. I thought it stood to reason that if they HAVE to take me starting January 1 and if I JUST HAPPENED to have had VSG right before they take me on, then if I have a complication they can't refuse to take care of me. A fellow sleever shared a spread sheet with all of the states' intended policies back in June 2013. I can't get the url to post right now but if you search Obamacare in the forums it will come up. I welcome any research along these lines that anyone wants to share -- I am dying to buy a policy and get it in hand to look over because I know you can send them back after a few days and get a different one if you don't like the details. (I have tried to sign up for an exchange policy every day since October 1st... some days I have gotten further in to the process but I've always ended up with a "sign-up process failed -- try again" message so far. I figure it will work soon/eventually --so I will keep up with my daiily Quest , lol.)
  25. Hey guys! I'm brand new to the forum, I am 30 years old and weigh about 310 lbs. I was at 400 at my heaviest. I've been struggling to lose weight for the last 4 years, I teach a low impact fitness group three times a week, and still it's a huge struggle to even lose percentages of a pound. The thing that pushed me into that first weight loss was a miscarriage, my husband and I desperately want to start a family. Last summer I finally put in a referral for sleeve surgery after doing some research and having an aunt go through the surgery. Now I am just starting the process, confirmed my interest and will be starting the educational portion. I was wondering if anyone can share their stories of the process now, and the best ways to start preparing even though I likely have 6 months to a year wait. We live in a very isolated small town, one very tiny grocery store so we don't have much access to the best foods or fresh produce, but I'm determined. Looking forward to the journey, and to hearing from other people going through the same thing. I am terrified honestly, but also crazy excited, Kayla
