Weight loss stopped after 5 weeks?
Frustr8 replied to Barbara H.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least you all can still eat, I can't and temporarily on TPN. What will the New Years bring? Open surgery, a J-Tube, ulcer resolution, stricture stretching so solids will start to pass through? I'm sure my Bariatric Surgeon and his partner have a plan of Care, perhaps on the 15th they shall share it with me? I have been on a form of this full liquid diet since the 1st of August, a difference was before my RnY I could have a Lean Cuisine for dinner, now not even that so 20- some weeks. It does make one doubt the wisdom of it all. But 60+ pounds down, that I still can celebrate! A problem- I was over 300 pounds at surgery, well high weight was 365. So although I am now mid 200s I'm still a pretty big variety of girl. Ever though I was teetering on malnourishment it was not visible to the outside world. Feeling more like me with the TPN, but I didn't sign an elective surgery consent to live on plumbing the rest of my days. One doctor, not my surgeon, but in my medical stable mentioned a J Tube, not keen on a tube coming out of my abdomen, rather have a PICC with its inherent sepsis risk, but I will do what I must to heal and be strong. -
Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
Frustr8 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Talked to Bariatric Clinic, first they said my endoscopy on December 26th should never been canceled, Dr Needleman or Dr Noria never authorized the cancellation, in fact he wants another EGJ before my January 15th appointment so he can better formulate a new plan of care for me. Suzie the Scheduler took the rest of Christmas week for a mini- holiday vacation, I should hear something New Years Eve or January 2nd about when a space in the Endoscopy Suite and being put upon the waiting list, but it has to be done, Friday was not good day, gave Mousecat my sympathy, she and I seem to be co-sufferers, by late evening even my sips of Propel weren't staying down, dry-Heaving with my green Barfie Bag, fell asleep sitting up in my chair. Finally went to bed propped up with pillows, had to get there so my lymphedema legs, left one always been worse of them started looking edemeous. Just another reminder I'm still trying to run with 73 year old original equipment, no replacement parts being manuafactured. Hadn't been an everyday issue with weight loss, but like the Golden Old Song " ALWAYS THERE TO REMIND ME!" Oh I am sure things will eventually straighten out, don't want to go to. local ER, they don't really understand RnY bypass, I am an anomaly to them. Ok to do my blood draws, beyond that? Forget about it ! Most of the staff don't make me feel comfortable. -

Insurance Finally Verified...have a question
notmyname replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have a different Blue Cross plan. Under my plan, the out of pocket max is the max I'd pay in a year for all services - its intended as a safeguard if you have a catastrophic injury or illness. That was different than what I paid for any given service. Does your blue cross plan have a SErvice Benefit Brochure online? If so, it will likely list bariatric surgery and say what you need to pay depending on if the doc and hospitals are preferred providers or not. Also, note that this cost is JUST for the hospitalization. I ended up with costs for the hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and lab work. It was far lower than my out of pocket max. I saw three surgeons before I decided on surgery, the only one that would have required me to make such a big payment up front was someone who did not take insurance and was covered as a non-participating provider. Again, my insurance may work differently than yours. -
Good luck! You'll do fine with just water. Everyone is hydrating these days! I think sushi is good date food (unless you're @GreenTealael ), it's shareable, so you don't have a giant obvious uneaten plate of food in front of you. And sashimi is pretty much the perfect bariatric food.

No Pain Medications
Coexister replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am on day 2 post - op. I was sent home with Tylenol 3 and it was like pulling teeth from the pharmacist to get this. I am in a lot of pain as I had pain issues previous to surgery and was taking some gabenpentin and celebrex on a daily basis and they had me stop those with this surgery. The T3 doesn't do much for me. This is my 11th surgery and never have I had to suffer so needlessly during post- op. Surgeons have always given something reasonably stronger. I am regretting this surgery as I didn't think I would be made to suffer so cruelly and needlessly afterwards . And to top things off, I can't even get a hold of the person I need to talk to at my Bariatrics doctors office to get some advice.. Felt like I needed to add to my earlier rant. The Nurse did call me back and the Dr. added 1 to 2 Tramadol to my liquid Tylenol. Hoping this will work. They do care and they did answer my call back. -
Pantry/Fridge/Freezer Purge - Does everyone do it?
mousecat88 replied to SimoneMonet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gave away all of my no-no foods right before surgery. Leaving me with just protein shakes, essentially. LOL. I had to go to the grocery store a week out to do the fill-in. My house is 100% bariatric friendly. I live alone, fortunately. -
Does anyone know of self pay options in US Without long pre surgery wait times? Costs?
CristinHope replied to Upstart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're willing to travel, Midsouth Bariatrics in Memphis has a Fast Track program for self-pay patients. Dr. George Woodman is an exceptional surgeon with incredible outcomes and the facility is a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. He offers an all-inclusive cost for self-pay patients that encompasses surgery, follow-ups, etc. I believe the cost is about 15k. -
I would suspect so, but remember. alcohol hits post- bariatric very hard, may take only that to make you drunk. YMYC my dear.

Well it's morning, first trip to BR, took liquid calcium, made sure C-pap had more distilled water in chamber, put it back,on, laid back down before stomach started to rebel, and thinking peaceful & calm thoughts. Had good blood draws yesterday so should hear from TPN dietician & pharmacists today And maybe also the scheduler at Bariatric Cl8nic about rescheduling the scoping for next week? Sooner I know, sooner I can make sure I have transport to Columbus. Tummy too uncertain yet to make a shake, try to wait a couple hours, want to keep the calcium in me instead of wearing it. Like 🐭🐺 I am rather untrusting of foods. Since my TPN. is calorie sufficent it's not mandatory I eat but I try for my protein enriched shake, Miralax enhanced, made with skim milk. May take all day to get the 16 oz down but by nightfall it will be gone and it will be hook-up time. Was worried when I weighed myself at PCP office, seemed the same instead of a loss, but last night my sluggish #2 came and came and came. See I no longer go once a day like I did in days of yore. And 3-5 pounds easily, well it did save me from MoM therapy today. But 3 flushes🚽 to clear out the bowl💩, soft, lump, soft & lump. But I feel considerable lighter if not brighter. When its been 30 minutes, I'll start on my 2 oz cuppies every 15 minutes of no-cal flavored water. Never thought I would regress back that far but it keeps me from dehydrating the 10 TPN hours off, doesn't it? And I got compliments that my color is better, I look less stressed, and 2 people on the periphery of my life complimented, actually noticed and complimented me on weight loss. Well I wasn't doing my Weight loss for them, but positive affirmation is NICE, isn't it?😝😋😝❤

Wednesday I’ll be able to transition to a regular diet, hallelujah! Trader Joe’s is my ultimate favorite grocery store and I’d like some healthy suggestions, what others may eat from there that is low carb and Bariatric approved. I don’t like fish or pork. Thanks for any suggestions!

Great way to carry Bariatric Fusion chewable!
notmyname posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a plastic coin tube (for quarters) with a screw top. Perfect size for bariatric fusion chewable multivitamins!! So easy to carry in my purse. Thought I’d pass along the tip. -
You either LOVE them or HATE them. There's no in between. I personally can't stand them but people in my office LOVE them! I need to dilute them quite a bit to get them down. You should definitely try them out to see which team you're on. Let us know! Some other options you might want to look at: 1) Liquid protein concentrate like https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/bariatric-predigested-protein-liquid-protein/products/bariatricpal-fruit-drink-15g-protein-concentrate-jumbo-variety-pack 2) Protein shots like https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/bariatric-predigested-protein-liquid-protein/products/bariatricpal-15g-protein-shots-variety-packs We have some other liquid options at https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/bariatric-predigested-protein-liquid-protein as well.

I used premiere prior to surgery and switched to unjury after surgery. I found I do the best with Classic chocolate with almond milk mixed in the shaker bottle. It seems to go down the easiest. I started with unjury's sample pack to see which flavor I liked. Mixing them in a blender seems to froth them up too much and then I can't get them down. Unjury is actually specially made for bariatric surgery and is more easily digested than some of the others. Try different shakes until you find one that works for you. Best of luck on your journey.

Just diet and exercise. WOW! Never considered that.
Healthy_life replied to mousecat88's topic in Rants & Raves
Weight loss seems to be such a controversial subject. People are overly opinionated. I'm not and I don't want to be the spokesman for bariatrics. I don't feel the need to educate anyone on WLS. They can do their own research. Don't invest time in negative people. Keep life simple. -
Ok people have talked about this before, but I wanted to share or put my 2 cents and my experience in. I'm past 8 months, 253 days post op to be exact. I wasn't a huge drinker but when I drank it was usually more than 2 drinks, so the long and short of it was I always got a hefty buzz or drunk, but I never drank unless I went out so I didn't see it as a "problem". But it was classic binge drinking when I did drink. Post surgery- after my ok to drink , I had some wine, first glass I didn't get drunk any faster, halfway through second I could be good but since we can't eat AND drink then why ruin my buzz, right? I eat well, I drink my water, I quit smoking, so I'd have some wine on the weekends (not normal for me) weekends turned into many days of the week, then every night. I've lost 104 now, I was still losing when I drank because I ate very little and I only drank wine. (I'm NOT glorifying any of this) With bariatric surgery I don't think there's a ok 2 glasses and I'm ok (as in not too drunk/tipsy, etc) . Pour that third glass and I was zero to 💯 and for me I would be drunk a lot longer. Alcoholism is huge in my family, why I thought having a few glasses of wine all the time was a good idea, maybe it filled the void. I tried to rationalize it with myself that because I couldn't eat and couldn't smoke anymore that having a few glasses was ok. I've been in therapy for food addiction, he said this isn't really transfer addiction because I didn't really have true food addiction. I guess I'm posting this for anyone who asks about drinking and if you have a history of any addiction or alcoholism in the family I would be cautious of alcohol. I should've known, thought about it more, but now I carry a chip from AA in my pocket everyday. I had a problem binge drinking before surgery, and yes you can be an alcoholic even if you don't drink that much, with me I drank to be buzzed or to get drunk. Im not posting this to be policed about the calories in wine or how it halts weight loss or to be bullied for making a poor choice. I'm posting this in the hopes that someone may read it who may be like me and start drinking a lot, or if someone is in recovery and wants to talk. If you do decide drink, be careful, it stayed in my bloodstream for a long time.

2 week liquid diet. how will I survive!
alleamarie replied to Wendums's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 2 week liquid diet I was only allowed to have a specific brands of shakes that I had to buy through my pharmacy. Other than those I was allowed sf jello and broth. I couldn't have yogurt or anything like that. I made it through without cheating once. Most of the shakes were sweet and I am more of a savory person so my saving grace was a trick I learned in a bariatric fb group. Yellow mustard. They said it helped cut cravings and it really did! I put some on a spoon and basically had a little taste at a time if I was craving normal food. I started using this probably at the beginning of week 2 and it got me through Sent from my LG-H918 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Making a Bariatric Pal Order: Any "Must Try" Products?
DeeberLee replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The bariatric store has some great products. I really like the lemon protein wafers. They have 15 G of protein per pack. I'll have a pack as a snack at the end of the day as a treat for myself. The maple oatmeal is good also and is also a good source of protein . -

Anything that the Bariatric Pal store carries that you recommend? I am early out so I need to supplement with protein products in order to reach my 60 grams. I have been cleared for all foods except beef, lobster and pork, so I can handle any textures really. -

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
Frustr8 replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sitting here crying, you are the first person besides Tomkitten to remember and wish me well. Maybe I'm acting like a spoiled brat, but I thought I might receive a card or two. After you posted I did get an e- one, Alex B offered me a discount on Bariatric Pal Store items l8je protein bars. That was kind of nice. Sitting here waiting to see if the Bariatric Clinic calls me back, I have a little problem bothering me , wanted input from a N.P., well if they don't call by 4 then they just won't . Tomkitten has an appointment with PCP tomorrow and then I have to go for my twice weekly blood draw, only going once because of Christmas and once next week because of New Years, so tomorrow can't be missed. Then if I get done in time, quick trip to Wal-Mart? Got to remember, without my surgery I might not be here for my 73rd, that should be my bottom line of thinking, okay Big Girl Panties tugged up, And maybe in the morn8ng it might be sunny after all!🌞😝❤ -
My journey has been easy. I woke up from surgery pain free and have remained that way. In addition to no surgery pain, my slight incontinance is gone, I’m off most meds, including all pain pills, and have lost 35 pounds. My neuropathy is slowly lessening. I still need both knees replaced, but am currently almost arthritis pain free. I resolved my nausea with bariatric vitamins with a Tespo machine. I know everyone doesn’t have the same experience, but I think that with mental and emotional preparedness, that everyone can. Life is what you make of it and sometimes, you have to just take comfort in half a glass, fluff out your tutu and dance on. Good luck everyone
