Sliders are anything that "slide" right down through the band. Usually they have little to no nutrtional value. Like ice cream, milk shakes, Cookies, chips. Any other highly processed, easy to chew and swallow food you can think of. Some folks defeat the band by having it too tight and then relying on slider foods to survive. But not getting any nutrtion along with high calories, it is easy to feel horrible and gain weight back.

I have been on the diet since Thursday and have already lost like 15 lbs. I'm struggling a lot with not eating. It feels like my body just needs something in it...something solid. Is losing that much so soon normal? I know some might be water weight, but I already take a pill for that.

Just an FYI I bought some Designer Whey Weight Control Protein Powder..
spoiltmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a really good deal on 3 cans of it. 2 chocolate and 1 vanilla. They have 15 grams of Protein and 5 grams of Fiber per serving. I thought maybe with the fiber in it it would keep me full longer. Well I haven't tried the vanilla yet but I have opened the chocolate. It's not good. It's very bland and doesn't really taste like chocolate. I have to add coffee to it or cocoa powder and splenda just so I can drink it. Then when you get to the bottom the last few drinks are super, super gritty, like your drinking sand. I'm assuming that's the fiber in it and it just settles to the bottom rather than mixing into it. This is something I definitely will not buy again. Just thought I'd post my review in case any of you are interested:) -

You might be able to use light wrist weights while on the tredmill, just a thought. I walk with 3pds in each hand, and 5 pds on each leg. I also have a weight belt. I used to use 5 pd hand weights, too difficult when I bring the puppy with me for power walks. Hope this helps.

Had Gastric Bypass Surgery on 9/11/14
Calvin "Casey" posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Everyone My name is Casey, I have been on my weight loss journey since April 72014. I lost 100 lbs before my surgery. I had my surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore Md. My surgeon is Dr. Christopher You. I am on day 9 and everything is getting better. I had a couple times where I could not believe I did it and got a little depressed. I sometimes feel like I am never going to be able to eat normal foods again instead of liquids. One of my favorite places to eat is Chipotle, and I like the rice there. Has anyone tried to eat chipotle rice after surgery? -

Some People Don't Notice The Change
iegal replied to janerose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh - I think they notice, how could they not? They just don't think your weight is the most important thing about you. Obviously you are incredible and your weight never was part of "who you were/are" Congrats on your weight loss thus far! -
Whats up everyone my name is Chris. I've been on "the lap band journey" for about 9 months now. During the summer of last year I went to my doctor for a checkup and he asked if I ever thought about weight loss surgery. I told him I thought about it and have done a little research but haven't pursued anything yet. He recommended me to an associate of his who does WLS so after a couple of weeks of thinking about it I gave him a call. I spoke to his secretary and got an appointment for January since he wasn't accepting any new patients until after the New Year. The day of my consultation finally came around after a long holiday season. I did the basic physical(weight/height/etc.) and from that he determined I was a candidate for surgery. Fast forward to today, I'm now done with the Upper GI series, liver/gall bladder ultrasound, stress test/EKG, nutritionist, and psych eval. My last step is to see my surgeon again next week and hopefully submit everything to insurance. If all goes well I will get my date for surgery. Wish me luck.

For those experiencing a stall........
nagaraj posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One of the reasons I joined this forum in Dec '09 after my VSG was to understand all about stalls and how to break them (live with them !). After almost 6 months I have realized that stalls are inevitable, they way they react is unpredictable but finally breakable. My longest stall was 9 weeks, not only was it a stall, I had actually gained weight. To all friends who come here to seek answers on stall - you will win ! There are many NSVs also, I am fully off diabetes medication, sleep well (no snoring), walk and run 4 miles a day, trouser size down from 55 to 38, shirt from 46 to 42. The best decision I ever made was to go for VSG. Keep the spirits high. The wonderful people of this forum helped me remain sane when confusion prevailed. Thank you all. -
I will be getting lapband after 8 long months of waiting (insurance approval required it) I am scheduled for surgery this Friday (10/21/11) and I am excited and worried. I am excited as I know that this is a start of my new life to a better and healther me, but am worried that it is not going to work that I will slip back into my old ways. I try to keep this negative thought out but past experence has taught me that the weight always comes back. I am trying to be pro active, I have joined the YMCA in my area and even cleaned out all the "bad" food from the house but still I am scared. Anyone else have this problem? Also any advice?

msdelicious.....Please, Please, Please, don't compare your weight loss to others. This is only going to distract, discourage, and frustrate you. If you know that you are following the banders rules, there is no right or wrong amount you should lose. Everyones body is different. I experienced everyone passing me up in weight loss. I got very depressed at the time so I stopped coming to this website. Then one day about a year later I came back. I seen the people that had passed me up a year ago and I was at the same spot as them about 2 years later. Did they get there before me? yes. Are we both there now? yes. Most of them did not lose as much as I did and had to have tummy tucks, arms, legs, thighs done. I believe it was because they lost weight very fast. I didn't. Mine was slow and steady and my skin was able to keep up with my loses. Of coarse some has to do with genetics, but you can't count out fast weight loss as a culprit. I may have taken a little longer but I saved alot of money and pain. Just wanted to let you know that it is okay to be a slow loser, it has it's benefits. Good Luck

This is something I have also wondered about....and I plan on talking to my Dr. about it before I'm 65.... Has nothing to do with loosing weight, the band did that just fine in that department...I'm just wondering about the long term...life time... Possible long term complications with the band? Versus the sleeve? I have no idea.....uncharted territory.... I have been banded for 3 years now, and I don't think about it anymore...I wonder that now that I am at that point, and I have formed new habits and the rules (some of them) have become practicable common sense....can I get something that is not adjustable with little or no maintenance? And still sustain me in the Green Zone? ie; no hunger, auto portions, etc? or will I have to go back to dieting, counting calories, etc, which I am absolutely terrible at.... Was the band a temporary quick fix to get me there...and the sleeve a permanent fixture? Don't know, just things I ponder and want to investigate..... Dr. did casually say something once but I did not pay attention....

From Lapband To Sleeve?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to jadekatz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is strictly my opinion, but you should go look over at the Sleeve forum before deciding it's the better option. You will see post after post over there with the same struggles we have- not losing weight. They get the same advice we get too "how many calories a day are you consuming?" WLS, no matter which one, is just a tool. The work will always be ours to do and that includes monitoring our calories and portions. You have to completely change your lifestyle and calorie intake no matter which WLS you choose. Your life shouldn't be about what you can and can't eat, either. The band is about moderation not deprivation. If you're talking about what you physically can't eat, if the list is very long then quite possibly your band is too tight. I would strongly suggest discussing this at length with your doctor. Best wishes. -
Lizabug... you have done really well to date and your weight loss isn't slow... not at all!!! The dreaded 3week stall is a pain in the tail, but it is a way for you body to take some 'time out' and readjust... remember, you are still recovering from major surgery! Try not to get too stressed.... I know it is hard, but the scale will move again! I went through the 3 week stall and it passed! Good luck =]

I want to hear from people who had the band removed and how they cope with gaining weight back despite diets and exercise. I do not have an option for any other bariatric surgeries unfortunately!

gastric bypass after being banded
MaineMom replied to BLAKQUEEN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am looking into a lap band after gastric bypass. I had the Roux-en-Y bypass 12 years ago. Lost 100 lbs., kept it off for about 3 years and then started to gain a little bit back each year. I gained about 85 of it back and have been at this weight (290) for 3 or so years now. What I have learned (a little late, of course!) through my journey...NONE of these procedures are some magic thing that will keep the weight off forever. Everything can be sabotaged and pushed to failure! They are just one tool that can help but we have to change our lifestyle. I have gotten smarter as I've gotten older and hopefully have figured this out...not to late. I am not even sure if the surgeon I am seeing at the end of the month will even to a band after bypass. He needs to put a scope down into my stomach to see if it is possible. We are doing that April 23. I have joined Weight Watchers and Curves to help me change my lifestyle. It seems to be helping but sometimes I feel like I need the restrictions from a band to keep me in check. Jenniferhlee: I don't mean any disrespect but it seems to me that choosing to go to Mexico for your band wasn't the best decision. I am curious as to why you would go to Mexico for this surgery? You said that everything goes straight through you or comes back up--how could you gain any weight this way? It doesn't make sense to me. There can be complications with bypass surgery too. The band is simply put around the top part of your stomach-bypass surgery re-routes your intestines. It is major!! Please make sure you have a top notch bariactric surgeon from the US help you. -
Stop Loosing....need Help!
Did it 4 me replied to Brittany.Thomas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my sleeve surgery 5 month ago as well and I've lost 48 lbs. I went 2 weeks with no weight loss back in June. I was freaking out at the thought of having plateaued so soon. But, i kept doing the right things. Soon after the weight loss resumed. My weight loss has been gradual. Maybe more so than most. Everyones body is different. As long as i keep losing I will forever be grateful for this procedure. Im sure that you will start losing again. Give yourself some time. Gradual weightloss does have some advantages. I've been able to maintain much more of my skins elasticity and I'm in my mid-forties. -

Greetings fellow banders, I was banded last March, lost 40lbs in the first few months and then stalled. Started a new job in September and munched my way through the holidays, gained back 12 POUNDS!!! My fault, cookies and holiday goodies go right through band. Ready to pay closer attention, not the bands fault, bad sweet tooth!!!

Well it's a start. LOL, Are you kidding 144 pounds in 8 months. That is amazing. I have not had my surgery yet but I believe you should keep losing weight if you are following your program. It may come off slower going forward. How do you feel now that you have lost 144 pounds? I am so jealous. =)
