    belly help please

I don't know what the moving down stuff means. Since your waist has measured smaller in the past couple of months, have you lost weight in those months? Also, are you doing any kind of resistance training lie squats, deadlifts or even ab work such as crunches, burpees? If so, you could be adding some core muscle which adds muscle thickness to waist while not losing inches there. I've not dropped a waist size in 6-8 months, but I've lost 10-12 pounds since my last waist size drop. I know I've lost some fat on my waist during that time, but I also have new muscle there since I've been training my core pretty hard, which equals no smaller waist, but a fitter waist, so I'm cool with that. There also may be other factors like sagging skin, water retention, etc. Do any of these apply in your situation?
  2. my wishes: 1. to wear something because I like the style, NOT because it fits my body! 2. hopefully have a smaller shoe size! 3. gain confidence in my entire body, not just my facial features.

    Help!

I saw the dietitian today. The plan she has put me on is two carb choices each at Breakfast, lunch and dinner and two Snacks of one carb choice each. Three ounces of Protein at each meal, none at the snacks. Hopefully, if I keep the carbs as veggies and some fruit I will lose the required weight. The starchy carbs will have to be extremely limited and avoided if at all possible. I brought up the subject of Protein shakes. She is NOT a fan! "Too many carbs, too much sugar!" When I got back to Waco, I stopped at the store and found some single serve packets of Jay Robb protein shakes with one gram of carbs and no sugar so I will being using these when I don't feel like eating a regular meal. I'm also going to look for some unflavored Protein powder to add to smoothies. She was real big on smoothies. It's just for three months, I can do this.
  4. Please don't throw in the towel yet! An average weight loss goal is 1-3 pounds a week. Contrary to our beliefs, we don't always lose weight in a straight line. There are minor ups and downs along the way as we trend downward. At this rate, you have lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks. You are above the average. So stick to the plan and have patience. (I drive myself nuts if I weigh more than once a week, btw. Weighing yourself every day can be counter-productive, in my opinion.) You can do this! Amy
  5. My program doesn't specify any numbers beyond the basic 60-80g of protein that's common to all of the programs, and the general instruction to avoid simple carbs and otherwise empty calories. I'm typically running in the 1000-1100 cal per day range, and have been for much of the post-op period and the weight has been, and is continuing, to come off at a quite reasonable rate that should be hitting goal weight around month seven; the 6-800 cal levels in some programs may be more appropriate for the ladies who should end up in the 120-130lb range and have an RMR to match, or those with hundreds to lose and need to maximize their caloric deficit to reach their goals. I don't control to carbs, fat or any of the other trendy indicators - our bodies really don't care what form the calories take as it will rearrange those resources to meet its need; it does care about getting all the amino acids that make up the proteins, and the other essential nutrients that come along with the carbs and fats that we consume, so it's better to concentrate on getting as nutrient dense and energy (calorie) light foods that we can since we are so restricted on the volume we can get in. Cutting out major food groups can have some value short term for special cases but is a long term nutritional loser.
  6. I tried all different types of eating disorders back in the day to loose weight. I've since have never considered the thought of doing it again. I even went to a therapist about it a few years ago. Will this hinder me in my approval process from uhc? I'm wondering if I can use my meetings with my therapist as help for my approval? Or if my past eating disorders will hurt me?
  7. hi everyone I'm having a problem.I got sleeve a month ago and two weeks I stopped losing weight had anyone had this problem or any advice and what am I doing wrong?

    Please Help!

Congratulations on your surgery. it is not uncommon for people to hit stalls around week three (and several times throughout your losing stages). Your body is adjusting and still healing. Stick to the plan your doctor laid out for you and the numbers should start to move again. When is your next followup? Borrowed this link from Butterthebean's signature http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.UpUK1tKth8E Good read about stalls.

    Skin elasticity

Genetics also play a part in this. Sometimes people who are older bounce back because of good skin genes. Sometimes younger people do not because of bad genes. But either way, think of how much happier and healthier you will be once the weight starts to go down.
  10. I am in the same position. While I don't look so thin because of my loose skin, I've been advised to stabilize at my current weight. I want to do this carefully because for me, this is dangerous. If I get used to eating high calorie foods, I'm worried that I could just forget about my diet all together. I still enjoy eating tasty foods. The VSG didn't change my preferences, it just made me able to make better choices.
  11. I was in the same position after reaching my goal. I went back to my nut and she calculated the right number of calories and carbs to stop losing. She took into account my level of exercise, height, weight and age. She recommended adding calories, if needed, with Kind bars. I've been maintaining for 8 months and so far it's gone well.
  12. AAAAHHHHH!!!! I'm over 5 weeks post-op. I can pretty much eat anything, and anything it is!!!! I have very little restriction and find myself eating drive-thru food and generally eating way more than I should. Alas, this week have gained back about 3 pounds, no duh. I have my first fill scheduled for this friday. But I find myself feeling angry, anxious and generally concerned. I know I need it to stop this madness, but I'm afraid I'm gonna hurt myself or my band by this stupidity!! On top of that, if my blood pressure dosen't go down by the end of July, my MD is putting me on pills. I need a kick square in the @ss!! Happy Canada Day and 4th of July to all!!
  13. Hi you all, I was wondering if there were others out there that have lost only a little weight but a lot in inches. I was upset about not losing a lot of weight in my first month but then I remeassured my self and so that I did drop many inches. Am I the only one?

Day 6 - fear and cake

I have 21 days to surgery and I'm scared. Fear is the body's way to keep change at bay - we get comfortable in every sense of the word and change is a threat. I know this. I'm not going to give in to fear. Some one said having LapBand is like "freedom" and thats what I'm going to believe. Having already lost some weight - I think "I can just do this on my own" but then I remember how many times I've been down that road and it all comes back. I went to AA last night - haven't been in a while. Someone suggested I should tell my sponsor my plans, so I went with that in mind. I was pushed away - for real, not just my perception. I was told "don't let life get in the way of AA". Wow. That was the last place I expected to be judged for not meeting someone elses expectations. It's ok. I'll get my support elsewhere. On another note - they had cake - very moist yummy cake - I thought "I can't eat that!!", but then I had a celebration of sorts. I decided this may very well be the last cake I ever eat. I took the smallest piece and savored every bite - cream cheese frosting and rasperries with chocolate....I told myself to feel no guilt and just enjoy the flavor knowing it was the last for a very long time. So I did. I feel strong in my decision (in spite of fear) and every time I think about it - it comes in flashes of excitement and anticipation throughout the day - I get that little jolt of adreneline...you know the one??

  17. I am very frustrated today. I went in for my consult at Weight Loss Surgical Center in KC last November in which they checked to see if my insurance would pay and I received a phone call saying they would pay but it had to be done at an acute care facility which they did not have but were in the process of building one. Fast forward to a month ago and I called to check on the facility and if it was completed & they had just done their 2nd surgery there so the ball starts rolling again....get phone call to set up another consult OR pre-op visit. I was on the fence whether to do it or not and after joining this group and reading the success stories I am 110% committed so left 2 messages to set up pre-op consult and the person that gets insurance clearance had been calling me WEEKLY to update me on Tricare's requirements that were being met each week SO I think as soon as the facility meets Tricare's requirement I am a go....NOPE....now I'm told that my BMI is under 40 and I do not have the 2 co-morbidities to qualify. WHAT!?!?! Talk about popping someone's bubble fast that was ready to get this going..........so now I wait as they try to gain clearance from Tricare. Why would they tell me last year that they would defniitely pay for it and now possibly NOT? They had the same requirements last year that they do today. Very disappointed & upset. Anyone else have to deal with Tricare? Do they pay for your fills as well? I have a $1,000.00 family deductible which I met last year from being in the hospital twice and if I could have had this done before Oct 1st I would not have had to pay a dime! But my health is worth the $1000.00 at least and I just want to do this and I think if I'm denied I will really fall in to a deeper depression...I don't want to have to eat until my BMI is over 40 to get the surgery so I may be left of my own. I lost 84# once before but its all back and then some. They think my thyroid issues will count so they are going to run it by Tricare. Thanks for letting me vent and if anyone has Tricare just wondering how they were getting them to pay for your surgery!

Question for those that are banded

Mine is not filled either. My doc said he won't fill till I stopped losing weight automatically from the band going in.

    distoritions of ourselves...

I know that this is going to sound very, very bizarre, but I believe that I always had the OPPOSITE problem. Even at 320 pounds, I never looked in the mirror and said, "holy crap are you fat". I always thought I looked pretty darn good. Sure, I was a little chunky (uh, last time I checked that's about 160 pounds of extra chunky), but it was no big deal. And, every time I saw a picture of me where I looked big, it's always because 'it was a bad picture', or 'the lighting was bad', blah, blah, blah. Very strange. That's why I have a hard time with people complimenting me on my weight loss. I never really thought it was a big deal, but obviously, it's made a big difference!
  20. Hello all. My name is Tiffany. I am 27 years old from NE Ohio. I am a wife and mother to 2 children, and a step daughter. I am in the research stage right now, considering if lap band is the right option for me. I would like some input from those who have been there as to what to expect in the beginning. What are the requirements to qualify, what testing is generally done (i know that it does vary) What is required leading up to surgery as far as diet, restrictions, etc.. I have read all about the surgery it self, but they don't tell you the down falls of what to expect before. And the restrictions, etc. I want to be well informed making this decision, as it will be a life changing decision. I have had problems with my weight for many years, unsuccessfully losing weight, despite diet and exercise. Now is the time to make a change. And i feel this may be my best option. I would Love to hear from others who have been there Thanks in advance Tiff:smile2:

    feeling guilty. is it normal

What Jack said. And this is another reason why I like food tracking software so much. My doc said aim for 1000-1200 cals per day (and gave me eating guidelines as well). I track my food on TheDailyPlate.com and I can see that Yes, I'm getting in between 1000-1200 cals per day and Yes, I'm eating a diet that is well balanced between carbs, Protein and fat, and Yes, I'm getting in the nutrients I need (or I am falling short in some area and I supplement). Plus I track my weight loss in Excel on a weekly basis so I can see how the numbers are going down. Cold hard facts can help silence those accusing voices. We really don't do ourselves any favors by eating too little. Hang in there!
  22. I had been gettting reflux at night and a burning sensation in my throat when I drink Water here lately and was getting worried so I went in to see my Band Dr. Out come is they do not think anything is wrong with my band just because I do not have any other symptoms. After reading several post sometimes there are no other symptoms but they are going to go a step further I will be on Protonix 40mg for the next month and need to check in with them in 3 weeks if my symptoms have not changed. I will also have the Pyloric H test done again to rule that out. If my burning sensation does not get better then an upper GI. I do not understand this burning when I drink water of all things but Dr says if I am getting the acid backing up when I am asleep then I am getting irritated. You would think sleeping practically up right would help. Hopefully the medication will do the trick. One bit of bad news. scale said something different than mine at home. My weight is 175.6 not 171.00 so will have to change my ticker..
  23. Hiya all, sorry i have not been around lately, been moving home and various other things, just thought i would give you an update, my surgery was 1st of Feb 2011, and i have now lost the grand total of 6 stone, (about 80lbs), as you can imagine i am really pleased, at first i was pretty doubtful that the surgery would work, after all when has anything 'really' worked?? but i can honestly say i am so pleased with the results so far, i have another stone to lose until i reach my first goal, but then another 4-5 stone to go after that to reach my final goal, i have found that i can eat most things, apart from lettuce, never ever eating that again!! Pizza is not good for me either, pasta is ok but i get full very quickly, i've had only a few bad moments, mainly when i have tried to eat more than my stomache will allow, or drinking and eating at the same time, anyway hope everyone is doing great viv

    Working out

I was cleared to exercise after 6 weeks. Basically do a lot of walking and lite weights at home. Waiting my kids to return to school to join the gym. Thankfully the walking has helped. Next week makes 12 weeks post op and I'm down 81lbs.
  25. I also have PCOS, type II diabetes, and low thyroid. Both my Surgeon and Endocrinologist support my getting the band. I was warned ahead of time that I might be a slower loser opting for the band over other weight loss methods. I was not at a point in my life where I considered bypass surgery. The only surgery that I wanted was the band. I have only had two fills so far (third is scheduled for this afternoon) and I have lost a total of 46-lbs in about 4 months. I am not restricted as of yet and have lost the weight due to sheer willpower. I am hoping that the next couple of fills will help me out a bit! Please have patience with the process. PCOS will definitely slow down your weight loss but that doesn't mean that we won't eventually get there! I too took Metformin and Januvia prior to surgery. Immediately before surgery I went off both medicines...under the guidance of my Endo. Since the surgery my 2-hour after meal sugars readings are great, but my morning fasting number has begun to creep up. She has put me back on the Januvia which I take before I go to bed. This has made a great difference in my morning fasting numbers. Talk to your Endo and see what he/she recommends.
