I had my sleeve done 10/31. The first night I thought I had made a huge mistake. Today I’m feeling great and will be going back to work tomorrow. I kept hearing it gets better everyday so true it really does

Hmmmm....i would if I could stand cinnamon. When my brother and I were younger we wouldn't touch cinnamon gum nor those valentine cinnamon candy hearts with 10-foot poles. He was/is the only person on this planet I know who agrees with me that cinnamon smells like sneezes. LOLOLOLzz In any case, I'm now finishing up Day 3 of OPERATION QUIT SMOKING, and am proud to announce that I am still firmly on the wagon. Last night I even had coffee with the BFF who smoked* during and I didn't even flinch (okay, maybe I flinched a little). *NOTE: BFF actually was not going to smoke in front of me but I insisted that she not change her own habits to accommodate mine. I want to be able to manage my own issues and not rely on others to do it for me. I was able to hang out with smokers before this current predicament and it did not bother me. I need to get to that same place again. She was the same with my weight-loss/diet-eating early on: she would not eat in front of me or would offer to go to some place that would have diet-friendly menu items that I know she hated. I said I was on the diet, not her, just like I'm the one quitting smoking, not her. (But I love her for the thought, regardless ❤️)
  3. Ok people just left hospital after 7 days!! LAPROSCOPIC ROUX EN Y BYPASS So I'll see how good my memory is.. I got to hospital Monday 10-28 at 10am waited a few hours to see surgeon had low blood sugar so had to wait longer finally got in around 3pm. Woke up around 6pm so bloody sore like you have no idea.. My stomach was so big and tight and holes in my belly plus the drain.. Was on IV from day one with fluids and then had fentanyl pumped into me every few hours to keep the pain down.. First 24hrs slept off and on so much every time I woke I was sore got more drugs to help me sleep so was pretty out of it for the first 48hrs.. I'm not sure if it was normal or I'm a sook lol.. After 3 days finally got the drain line out and had shower and felt much better but still pretty sore getting in and out of bed.. Blood tests and blood pressure and sugar check every few hours the first few days.. Wouldn't let me sleep much lol Started walking the halls after I think day 4 and on fluids everyday just broth and water and optifast nothing else.. The hospital staff were so nice and accommodating though every time i needed I pressed the button they were there.. Was still a little sore and bloated for the first 4 days but started going number 2 by then and farting more to let out the gas and air.. But everything is just liquids still so haven't felt anything going In or out except a few pills I take or if I drink too quickly... Gotta learn to slow down Been on chewable multivitamin since few days and been drinking plenty of water so that's been good and having my shakes but only half size shakes now.. Um I'm trying to think of anything else to help others going for surgery.. MY SURGEON chooses to make pouch a little bigger than regular which he says much easier to adjust and get used to not so restricted but still enough to make an impact Been feeling good last couple of days but still a little tired here and there just gotta keep water up and protein up don't feel worried if drinking too much Your body needs it to recover and heal I'm finally on my way home miss my own bed and feeling hopeful for the future definitely!!!!! thank you everyone!!!!

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

I'm glad to see this post. I had a wonderful VSG Dec, 2013. I lost ~ 90 pounds, from 272-180; down to a size 10, feeling great, hot and sexy. Self-confident. Alas, in the past 2 years, I fell off the protein wagon and gained 25 pounds. I'm so mad at myself. The carb cravings...grr! I wanted a re-do VSG, but am told there may be leaks, etc. So the doctor--my friend and colleague--mentioned the ESG...but I don't want that. Fortunately, with the help of an anorexic I just started (in small, half-doses), I've been a good girl this weekend. It's a start. I just need help to break my grazing, and grabbing carbs. So I think I will not do the ESG. But I'm glad to see the pros and cons of some who've had it. I guess that, no matter what procedure we have, the battle is somewhat inherent to potentially regain. Oh...as an aside...I will say that CAULIFLOWER RICE has been helpful. I love regular rice, but I'm able to psych out my brain when I eat cauliflower rice. (I add/chop up sweet mini peppers, onions and scallions to it, with blackening seasoning.) I hardly realize it's not real rice.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

We've all had surgery now! How is everyone doing? I had surgery on 10/18 and head back to work tomorrow. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well everything has gone. This upcoming week at work is very busy so I"ll see what it is like to get back in the full swing of things. I work in an office causal environment and have been surprised that a lot of pre-surgery clothes are getting to a point where they look a little sloppy because they're very baggy. What strategies do you have to deal with wardrobe? I have leggings and ponte pants and some dresses but not enough to bridge the gap.

    The Maintenance Thread

I keep losing weight, even with a much higher carb intake, using the Whole Food Plant Based approach. I cannot eat any more calories. I don't even count anymore - just eat as much food as I can, making sure it is all healthy and nutritionally dense. Each day I eat at least 2 pounds of veggies/fruit (mostly veggies), whole cooked grains, legumes, nuts & seeds. I look so boney, although my BMI is still good. I cannot get smaller than a size 10 pants or else I will have to completely change the clothes - again. I have never been a size 10 in my life and it is a good size for me. I'm just not sure about what to do at this point to keep from losing. 5 more pounds OK, but absolutely not more than that. Ideas?

What's your reason for your obesity

Momma's home cook southern food! Lol. I really dont know. I have always been big, was born 10 pounds. I dont snack. I do love carbs. I have always had bread with every meal as far back as I can remember. We were raised to finish our food and never waste it. We couldn't leave the table unless our plate was clean. As an adult, I always skipped Breakfast and ate large lunches and dinners. Combine that with loathing cardio unless I'm running for my life and voila....300 pound me!

    1 week post op today!

I’m 12 days post op and I’ve only lost 10 pounds , I’ve followed the liquid intake the best I can, I’m drinking thinned/strained out broth/cream of chicken and Tomato Soup, I’ve been walking when I can. I’m so scared that I’ve hit a plateau already. I’ve gotten use to seeing a 2 pound loss every few days. What if I’ve only lost Water weight ? Should I be walking more? Trying to burn more calories? Am I being too paranoid?

  12. I am beyond happy! Now I only have 40 lbs to get to my first weight goal of 180 and total of 80 lbs to till I hit my ultimate goal of 140. Normally I weigh myself on Mondays but this week so many people at work such as parents and coworkers (I work at a school) Have commented “ hey skinny you” or “ hey smaller you”. So I have decided to weigh myself a little early yesterday morning, and I checked the scale three times because I couldn’t Believe what I saw on the scale. And not even a week I had lost 4.8lbs! Last week I lost 3.8 pounds. Before that for the last four weeks I had been losing only 2.8 and most pounds a week. So I started to do some YouTube research and people were upping There calories a little. And that is what helped me lose some more I just upped my calories by 100-150. So far so good. On the November 19 it will be my three month postop and I I have my three month postop appointment with my surgeon on the 18th, I cannot wait to see where I am at exactly 3 months. I am just So excited. I am only 11 weeks out
  13. Panda333 I like that you just wanted to hear from women. We have such a different struggle than men. Well I'm 58 and had RNY surgery on 7/25/19. My start weight was 235 I'm at currently at 189.8. At first the weight came off quickly but has slowed down. I'm trying to get more calories in and I'm walking 4-5 times a week. Did my first 5k walkathon yesterday. I'm thinking about joining a zumba class so I'm getting closer everyday. I'm sending encouragement to you, Good Luck. Former smoker here as well. 19 years ago, September 19. LOL. Exact much? I no longer crave cigs but it took years to get to that point. I do think it would be easy to pick them back up though. I really loved the ritual of the behavior and how calming it was because of sitting doing nothing and deep breathing. Research four square breathing. Also look for a "finger pacifier" - something shaped about the size of cig that you can play with between your fingers while you get still and deep breathe 5-10 times. Very relaxing. I used cocktail stirrers or coffee stirrers/straws cut to length of cigs, pens, etc. ((hugs)) Glad you're seizing control of the palace again!

    4 weeks out

Your starting weight is much lower, so 8 - 10 pounds a month is normal, especially at that weight. You may have better months, but patience is the rule here. You are losing so be happy. I started at 292, so my drop was quick at first but once I reached 240 it was 10 pounds a month with stalls every 3 weeks. Some weeks I say "this is easy peasy" then a stall happens and I'm sure I'll never lose another pound. But the body is still shifting some people love to measure, I use my clothes to judge. Now, unfortunately, we can't point to the spot I want to lose. My boobs went first, then bum, but it is my legs I want to go and they seem to be last. Just enjoy the journey. I lost 50 pounds before anyone noticed, I mean really. You are losing and work on becoming the better version of you.

    October Surgery Roll Call

Had mine 10/28 and, oh yes, the pain is real. It’s not gas, it’s the incision where the stomach comes out. I just got my abdominal binder wrap thing. I’m praying it works. Today I have been using my pain meds because I can’t. I wanted to go back to work in a week (so, Monday), but I don’t know if I can. I’m ready to feel human.

    Those last 14 lbs....

The 5:2 is a great option. As is ADF (Alternate Day Fasting) which is doing the same thing but as 4:3 or simply every other day. The research shows that the body basically responds in the same way - it starts pulling from fat reserves and starts killing off the "zombie" cells (old cells that just don't want to die.) Personally, I love the 16:8 or even 14:10. I feel better in the mornings without food right away. When I DID have to go back to early breakfast on certain days, it didn't feel right and I was not as sharp mentally. On days when I train (like today - a long bike ride this morning) I have to eat a couple of hours before, but normally, I don't start eating til noon. I totally agree that the restriction limits what one can eat in an 8 hour window, but you can stretch it to 10 hours, as well. And like you said, it has to be healthy nutrition - every bite has to matter.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

Okay, so I am going to try this. Sorry to be one day late. !. My personal goal for this challenge is to lose as much as possible over the next month. Since I almost never eat any of the stuff on the list I will have no trouble for the most part avoiding those items. However, I do need to focus on my nemesis which is alcohol. My goal for the month is to not drink alcohol on at least 10 of the days, and limit myself to 4 ounces of alcohol on other occasions. This sounds lame but I am trying to be realistic. 2. VSG 5/2/2018. While I have not met my goal. I have maintained my current weight for about 9 months. 3. CW: 212.8, BMI 34.3 4. I am most grateful that I feel great and am able to enjoy my life with my husband, family and friends. As far as technology, I am most grateful for social media since I have been able to reconnect with so many people that I had lost touch with over the years. High school friends, cousins, former patients and parents that I have cared for over the years and nurses that I have worked with over the past 37 years. It is truly amazing.
  23. I’ve completed all of the prerequisites as well. Seems as if it has taken forever to get it all checked off (six month doctor supervised diet, cardiologist approval, pulmonologist approval, nephrologist approval, two appointments with nutritionist, 2 support group meetings, endoscopy). Needless to say the last 7 months has been a very busy. My surgeon submitted for approval of the surgery to the insurance last Friday (10/25/19). Hoping I get the approval and the surgery is scheduled for late this month or first part of December.
  24. I just got my VSG on 10/23 and my incision sites were doing great until yesterday. It looks like my stomach broke out into hives but only around the sites. Their crazy itchy and I’ve been carefully using hydrocortisone cream around the sites. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips? thanks!
