    I have a date!

Congrats, another July Bandster. I'm Sherri, I'm getting banded July 10, in Monterrey Mexico. I don't now yet but I would say listen to your doctor. You don't wont to twist real fast and tear a stitch and your port move or something. Just mho though. Good luck and will be thinking of you. Sherri
  2. The thing is I am sure you are eating a lot less than before the band (we were all massively overeating or we wouldnt have been obese). For me, (an old dog in maintenance a long time) I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food at each meal which can be 4 to 5 times a day. I really cant eat more than that of any food (I have no sliders) and I done eat any low cal or diet food. As I lost weight my band did loosen and I had to get fills to keep losing. My first green zone was at 6cc in a 10 cc band and took 3 fills to get there. Then I leveled off at about 180 lbs for MANY months until I figured out to go get a fill. Once I did I started losing again easily and then I plateaued at 155...I got 0.3ccs and in a couple of months went to 140.
  3. I am 5 day post op. I had gastric sleeve on 6/19 and was sent home 6/20. I thought that was extremely soon. Anywho, I am having random stomach pains. They remind me of the pain felt when trying first meal post surgery. It happens so sporadically throughout the day. Even my pain meds can’t keep up. I’ve been told it’s normal but geez this is so painful. I do ensure that I walk and I’m getting about 30 oz of fluid on a good day. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anything I can do to help minimize the pain or make this whole process more bearable? Also, everything that I have tends to run straight thru me.... literally. I take a few sips of broth and can feel and hear it work its way thru my system. In 15-20 mins, I’m seeing it again from the other end. Is this normal?
  4. Hi, everyone, first of all, English is not my native language, so please, take it easy. I went through Gastric Bypass surgery on May 19th, it's been 45 days today, July 3rd. I found out that I had a stricture 10 days ago (anastomatic stenosis), the diameter of the stricture was 8mm and through endoscopy, the doctor could enlarge it to 12mm. But even after it, it was difficult to eat soft foods, so I was hospitalized once again and yesterday I had my stricture enlarged again, now to 15mm. The doctor told me to eat only pureed foods for 30 days until I get another endoscopy done and see if it's okay to eat solid foods again. So in the best scenario, according to the doctor, I would reintroduce solid foods only within 1 month and 1 week. It feels like an eternity, I crave to eat something else than creamy soups and fruit and protein shakes. I'm thinking about trying to introduce soft foods a little before that to know how it feels, like chicken soup, with soft potatoes and minced chicken. Would you do that too? Have you ever had a stricture? If so, how did you take care of it? I'm so worried and impatient about my case. Thank you!

    The Stall...

Well, I had an absolute DOH! moment today. My scales were stuck at the same weight for a solid week, right down to the ounce. My BF weighed himself this morning and weighed exactly the same as I did. That couldn't happen, he's probably 10 pounds more than me (he's much taller). We took the batteries out, replaced them, reset the scales and voila!!! I was 2 pounds lighter!!! (He was 8 pounds heavier!) These crappy scales have had me depressed for a week! Make sure to check the batteries in your digital scales, folks! It matters! (This commercial message was brought to you by Diane, your BariatricPal dumbass!! LOL)
  6. Hi Everyone, Yesterday I hit 100 lbs lost, my surgery date was June 11th, so that makes it 100 lbs in 9 months. This morning I weighed myself again convinced I would have bounced up a pound (I have been stalled for nearly three weeks, so understandably suspicious :-D). But to my delight I had crossed over the fabled "One-derland", 199 lbs. I say fabled because it seemed like something that happens to other folks, I just wasn't sure it would happen for me. I guess you can say this is how I have felt through this whole process. Probably nearly 30 years of weight loss failures affecting my attitude! But somehow I lived through the presurgery liquid diet, the immediate post surgery diet phases, fearing different foods, first for my tiny tummy then for impacting my weight loss, multiple stalls that made me wonder if this was the end of the losses, would I be the near the bottom of the spectrum, only able to lose 40-50% of excess weight? But my sleeve has kept me on the straight and narrow, I have made the good food decisions and exercise changes and together we have lost 102 lbs! Which as of today is around 70 percent of my excess weight. I feel like I definitely have another 50 lbs to lose both in my heart and on my body, I really think I will by-pass my Doctors goal of 165 and get down to 145 lbs. If you are reviewing these posts to decide if weight loss surgery is a good decision - let me share that not only do I thank myself ( and my Mom for helping with the cost) everyday for choosing this solution, I wish I had done this 10 years earlier. I feel great, I can walk and workout without feeling like I am gong to pass out. I started in a size 26W and 3X, today I am wearing a size XL fitted tee and size 16 misses jeans. It has all been worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Measurements

I measure every weekend. I do chest, stomach, waist, biceps, thighs and calfs. Since my pre op on 8/19 I've lost 26 inches.

    Scale

OMG I so agree. I was more worried about the sugery and realize now the surgery was the easy part! Post op is like food withdrawal, detox and rehab all at once. I keep saying never again but like hello...How could I do this again??? I will say I pulled out some clothes that were in the area of the closet called "save just in case i lose weight one day" and HOLY CRIPES the stuff fits! This is the first time I feel like maybe, just maybe I made the right decision. This is by far the hardest thing I've ever done and I served in the Army for a long time. Probably because we have to face ourselves, and deal with ourselves with this surgery and that is the hardest thing to do.Sleeved 10/28/16 SW 263 CW 237 Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

    Scale

I felt like crap for a week and was also hungry. I'm just 19 days out and feel great. I walked 1/2 mile yesterday! As for your scale. Give it to Goodwill and let it make someone else crazy.

    Changes in friends

Hi Globie, I found my friends changed over my life, slowly but surely. The friends we see most now are part givers as well as goers if you get my drift. I have had my fair share of friend who let you do all the running in the past. I *love* my friends that make the effort becasue it shows they care too. Plus they are grade A hoots and make mean cocktails. One of my daughters is in the process of sloughing off a couple of so-called friends now. She has come to the conclusion that they only drag her down and never support her when she needs a shoulder to cry on. I am really impressed that at nearly 19 she has seen this, it took me far longer to work it out! (My other daughter takes after her father and has always chosen friends wisely). She is so excited about going off to university in September, she is looking forward to meeting new people and has been deciding who she wants to make an effort to continue seeing in her school and vacation work friend groups. All the best to you. Jane x
  11. Hello TheSpoonieLife! I'm going through OSUWMC too, but I'm in about the same stage as you in the process, so I can't help with all of your questions. I had the psychological evaluation on 10/20 and haven't scheduled my nutritionist/medical evaluations yet. As far as the requirement for monitored dieting before surgery, I think that depends on your insurance. I have OSU insurance and I am required a 6 month supervised diet program before surgery. However, it is required by the insurance, not the Bariatric Program itself. Sorry I don't have many answers, but I wanted to at least say Hi!
  12. Them: Wow you've been losing weight haven't you? Me: *wild look* huh? Um... no. __________________ Them: You look like you've lost a lot of weight! How much? Me: I lost 10 Lbs so far! *Big smile* __________________ Them: How are you losing all that weight? Me: I promised never to tell. *smile*

    19 days till my wedding!!!

Look on the bright side, You have 19 days to recover, just relax and wear flats until then. You can take your shoes off if you need to at the reception and switch to flats there. Since the actual wedding isn't usually more than an hour you should be able to wear the shoes for just that little bit and then change

    My Girl Susie

Thank you !! She really is my pride and joy, other than my daugher of course Paula good idea about the avitar! just looking at the one I have now makes me more nervous roflmfao !! Cindy, she has lovely colors, except when I'm wearing black DeLarla she is the biggest whimp when it comes to me touching her paws. When I cut her nails, I almost have to sit on her LOL, poor thing (some times she pee's on herself lol). I can't imagine painting them although I have though about it before. Vines, Astro is a great name for a dog. I love old dogs too but puppies just melt my heart. I sware if I didn't have to work, I would have 10 dogs (and probably no husband LOL).
  17. Does anyone else find themselves doing the cheat rationalization talk to themselves (i.e. it is only . . . ) when you are just having soup broth!??? I am 10 days out and adding a little soup broth and find myself doing the old dance. Is that neurotic or what!!!
  18. Dr P is absolutely awesome! He has a great sense of humor. He explains everything so that the patient really understands. He is kind and truly made me feel that he cared about me. His office staff is equally as impressive. They are always available to answer questions. I was banded on 12/15/10 and would recommend him to anyone considering Wls.

    Rollercoaster month

Sorry you have to be having such a sucky time, I hope things get better for you soon. As far as stress goes, im guessing that yes, stress caused all yourproblems, and now that your stress is gone, so is the "no appetite". I totally get the need to "task", so if that works for you, how about setting up an hourly task on your phone , calendar, or whatever works for you ? Like 9-9:30, do laundry. 9:30-10, clean kitchen, etc ........whatever your needs are. I find that when I have somewhat of a schedule in my mind, im less likely to wander in the house, which leads me through the kitchen......... to mindless snacking, etc.......... good luck to you ! Hugs !!
  20. I feel your pain or stress as it may be. I am also scheduled for tomorrow and have been questioning everything I have done so far. I cried twice today because I am afraid I forgot something. It doesn't help that my daughter, 10 yeas old, broke her wrist on Sunday and we spent the day trying to get her into an orthopedist because I know I will be out of commission for a little bit. She us such a trooper! I have to try and model myself on her. Together we will get through this. Good luck to everyone! Will keep good thoughts for all of you!

    Stinky poo

I think the amount of Protein shakes impacts the smell regardless of which bariatric surgery. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16
  22. I used to spend $20-$30 a day on food. Now it's more like $5-$10. I used to take 7 medications, now I take 2. So for me, it's paying for itself!
  23. Hi my name is Tim and I'm new to the site. I'm really beside myself whether to go for surgery or not. Well in a nut shell. At my heaviest I weighed 365 pounds. I have tried many diets and fitness programs in the past. A few years back I dropped to about 273 pounds. Then I went back up to about 343. Last year my wife began her journey with the bariatric sleeve. At the same time I began a medical weight loss program.. I did good for awhile and dropped down to 285 pounds. in the last two months I stopped losing and gained 10 pounds. I have a bariatric information session appointment on 10/6. My wife said I shouldn't do it, I guess basically she misses eating a lot. coming from an Italian back ground it is a little tough. however she looks awesome. She lost 125 so far. should I do it? I think I is a good move, basically I can handle intense workouts. my problem is that I just don't know when to stop eating. even with healthy food I eat in excess.
  24. That's it, every surgeon is different and expects you to follow their instruction. I am one of those who you are talking about. I had no pre-op diet and on day 5 after surgery I was on soft food. Mind that for 3 days I had nothing by mouth, not even water, day 4 water, day 5 soft, and day 10 I was allowed to progress to well chewed solids! It was a bliss, finally I felt restriction, and I did very well. My surgeon progresses all of his patients as fast as he can. He is brilliant and I did everything he asked for. It is confusing to see us having such different giudlines, it makes you question who is right or wrong, but I guess we all just follow our doctor's order. So do not be too quick to judge, your wrong can be somebody's right!

    Problems with tummy sag?

i also wanted to mention that u do not necessarily need to have rashes and skin disorders in order for ur insurance to cover a panniculectomy...eventually that weight of the excess skin will start giving you back problems and enable u to fully exercise...i looked at ur ticker with the amount of weight u want to lose...im 99.9% sure u will need some type of plastic surgery...i am 30 years old and have lost about 140 pounds...i weight in 2morrow when i get my stitches taken out...i dont want to get u down...but i dont want to sugar coat it either...even when i had my apron of excess skin i was still much happier at 160 pounds than i was at 296. i wouldnt worry about it now... ask ur band surgeon to refer u to a plastic surgeon when ur about 10 pounds from goal and mention to the plastic surgeon that u want to go through insurance...they r usually very helpful...and skin tighten creams do not get rid of pounds of extra skin...thats a myth...lol
