CANADIAN WOMEN Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties. Garry had married a woman from the U.S. and bragged that he had told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and housecleaning that needed done at their house. He said that it took a couple of days but on the third day he came home to a clean house and the dishes were all washed and put away. Jimmy had married a woman from Australia. He bragged that he had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. He told them that the first day he didn't see any results, but the next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean, the dishes were done, and he had a huge dinner on the table. The third man had married a Canadian girl. He boasted that he told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day, most of the swelling had gone and he could see a little out of his left eye. Enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher, see the dials on the washing machine and start the lawn mower.

Hi Donna D!

I am doing GRRRRReat! I have just started on the puree stage. I am happy to be having a few more choices on my menu... lol although it sure is odd to be eating muck! So far I think I am healing well I still have a few steri strips hanging on and I will just let them do their thing. They don't bother me and no one else sees them.

Dr Cobourn warned me that I may not lose any weight and could possibly gained during this phase so I am surprised to have lost 6 lbs since surgery. That doesn't mean that I won't gain though... I still have a few weeks to go before grown up food -=winks=- I think I am really looking forward to a peice of toast! I want some crunch!

How are you feeling now that you have had your first fill?

  4. Hiya! I bought three months' worth of Calcet Creamy Bites in lemon, because my nutritionist recommended them. I was told not to start taking them until a week after surgery, and now that I am (and recording them in my food diary), I'm wishing they were not so high in calories and carbs. They're delicious, though!! What do you take? TIA!

    SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE

My insurance finished in a week, but they couldn't read my sleep labs, so it took a few extra days to get those updated. They also didn't call me when I was approved, I called to check on the status.

    Getting Stuck!

Hi Littlefroggy: This may not be your solution, but 99% of the time that I get stuck, especially when I first started getting my fills (I have had only 3) I am usually doing it my self, by not chewing up my food properly, too big of a bite and eating too fast. When I do what I am supposed to do, I have a easier time and have no problems. However, you may have too big of a fill. My fill doctor has his patients doing liquids for a week after a fill and I know when I don't do as he suggest. Pam

    What is wrong with me?

I must admit I pushed that possibility to the back of my mind because I have no other symptoms of a possible slip, ie acid reflux or pain. I think I will ask for a complete unfill to give it a few weeks rest.
  10. I have my 2 month post-op appointment on Thurs. I am not sure if i should get a fill or not (this is so confusing). My first fill went great which i recieved on June 15. I had great restricition i would fell full quick but i never got anything stuck or PB or slimed. But over the last week and a half i have kinda lost a little of the restricition i feel like i can eat more. I have lost 10lbs since my last appointment which is great. I kinda fell like i need a fill but i am so scared that i would get to tight. I don't want to PB or get stuff stuck right now i can eat what i want just in smaller potions but i am geting hungrey a lot quicker. Oh the questions that plague the lapbanders mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Lap Band Removed Through Esophagus?

My doc is not a big lapband fan as the European studies and current US studies are showing high failure rates over time, so the option of revision or replacement is out of the question with this doc. I have had a CT scan, Fluro/barium swallow, and endoscopy over the past three months. They believe my band has tightened due to scarring of the stomach lining.

When I was still on liquids I got tired of sweet shakes, so I really liked the ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups. You might also want to try the unjury chicken Soup. By the third week I was also able to have Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I am glad you realized that you are having a third week stall. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Just stay off the scale if it's going to cause you anxiety. Best of luck.
  13. Not everyone is provided with the same amount of pre-op information that you were. I've seen quite a few posts from people who had surgery outside of the US and didn't have a nutritionist or even help from their surgical team once they got back to the states. There are also a lot of people who may be self-pay and don't have all those resources you had. I have had a great team but unfortunately, the packet of information they gave me was pretty flimsy. I'm only four weeks post op and I have had to call my doctor at least 6 times with questions that weren't answered anywhere in my paperwork. Not everyone will be fortunate enough to have a doctor they can call so easily so this forum may be their only resource.

    Cravings!

I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery and can say that with my two protein drinks a day and all the water, I really don't "crave" anything at this point. Don't get me wrong, food smells delish, but I just don't have the overwhelming urge to eat it. Went to dinner with friends last night and had grilled salmon - I ate 4 small bites of that and 4 small bites of retried beans (I was at a Mexican restaurant) and that was so filling. I was actually afraid I wasn't going to be able to keep it down.

    Two questions

I'm almost a month out and the hardness under my largest incision is definitely softening up. Agree with infinite on stalls, just be patient when it happens and know that the sce will move again. I had a bit of a stall my third week - only lost about a pound all week, but then dropped 3 pounds already thus week.

    Minnesota

I attended a seminar in central MN this past weekend. The MIMIS center in Crosby, Minnesota is excellent. I spoke to three people (2 GB, 1 LB) who are extremely happy with this center. I also checked out Park Nicollet, Fairview, and even Mayo -- If you live in Minnesota, Crosby is the place to have your surgery, hands down.
  18. I am 2 1/2 years post op. I lost 100lbs total and I was very happy about it. At about the 2 year mark, my OB Doctor started me on a hormone medication in an attempt to achieve pregnancy. This was unsuccessful, and caused me to gain about 25lbs in a two week period while taking it. The OB said it can be normal to gain weight while taking this, and some of it should go away once I stop. I haven't been taking it for about 3 months now and I have not lost a pound yet. My eating and exercise habits haven't changed at all. I am incredibly frustrated and depressed. I feel like a fool for "messing up" my weight loss journey in an attempt to have a baby that failed anyways. Has anyone had any similar issues that they may have any suggestions for me? I also have PCOS.

    Pureed Stage

Has anyone moved off of the pureed stage sooner than 2 weeks, either by doctor guidance or just because you felt it was the right thing to do? I ask because I'm only taking in about 300 calories and 20 grams of Protein per day. I feel like it would be healthier to move on to soft foods to get the proper nutrition.
  20. Yes. Bled constantly post op. Went on the pill. Didn't work. Ended up going on provera tablets then getting a sterilisation 4 weeks ago and an ablation on Monday. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Time Off

I took 5 weeks off but I have a fast pace active job. Personally I think if money/benefits are tight you could make one week work, but I think anyone should take at least two weeks if possible
  22. Made it to second goal, which was to be down to what I was when I got married. 230.6 this morning, and 19.4 lbs until my next goal. Which is to be down 50lbs. I know it will take longer to get the 19 off than the last 35.4 lbs, but I know I can. I'm almost 7 weeks out ( will be on Tuesday).
  23. Curious has everyone lost weight everywhere but your stomach. Clothes are loose all over , but stomach still feels swollen and clothes fit the same at my waste. Is this normal? And I cannot wear anything tight around my waist , will it always be that way? :confused:Thanks for the input ! Sandra Have my 1st fill next Tuesday 205 195 YEPPIE !!!:clap2:
  24. Hello Banders! I have less than a week to go to my banding. I am on a two week pre-op liquid diet. Which is a 1000 calories, 2 cup of nonstarchy vegetables, and 30 calories of sugar free ice pops and/or jello. I am going over my caloric intake by 200 calories with my protein shakes. I am absolutely starving if I don't. I drink extra fluids to help feel full but it doesn't work to we'll. What kind of preoperative diets are you on and how are you doing?

    Hypothyroidism

It is a little soon to tell (yep we are now two meggies with (soon) sleeves, husbands named Michael, AND hypothyroidism!) but I lost 18 pounds on my two week liquid diet, and have lost 16 in the four weeks since surgery. I am thrilled with it as I too have always lost weight very slowly in the past- but I think I never really got how important the carb factor was and have stuck to that firmly since day one of my pre-op. I think that as long as we keep our levels good we will be ok- jmo. (ps you aren't by any chance left handed? now that might almost be eerie...)
