I'm hoping to get to 135, so if anyone has had this or knows what the approximate loss after revision, I would greatly appreciate it! Prayers for all of you!

    Mexico Location's - Please Help

I don't have any suggestions for which to choose but I can tell you where not to use!! First let me explain how we got to where we went. My hubby had a Lap Band for 13 years, he did lose 100#'s. But he still weighed over 400#'s (in fact 465#'s) So it malfunctioned, so he needed to see another Surgeon. So they were going to remove his Band and revise him to a RNY. Once they got in there the band had eroded into his liver. They removed his band and his Gallbladder but couldn't do his revision. That was 2013. He got so sick (he almost died) he was sick for 9 months and 3 of them he doesn't even remember. After he was well he decided to presue his WLS. But he had his diabetes out of control. So OREGON HEALTH AND SCIENCE UNIVERSITY and they wanted him to lose 20#'s and get his A1C down to a 7. He could lose the weight but then his blood sugar would jump up, or he could get his blood sugar down but not his weight. He found out that he has Cancer in his kidney. Time was going by fast. So off to Juarez Mexico. He went thru the BELITE WEIGHT LOSS. DON'T GO THRU THEM!!! It isn't like they advertise!! First off they tell you to bring your own washclothes. We were told that we would have a SUITE, not I slept on a hard window ledge. The nurses didn't wash their hands ever only one nurse used hand santizer. They didn't wear gloves ever. When they got into his surgery, they couldn't do his RNY because his whole right side was solid scar tissue. So they did a SLEEVE. So the cost was less for the Sleeve and when they gave us a refund they said because of his surgery being diffcult they didn't give us back near amount of the money. We didn't get discharge papers and when I ask for the follow up papers she told me that the RNY and the Sleeve had the same guidelines. I had a RNY and they are similar but not the same. Our experence wasn't the best for sure. Now I'm not saying the Surgeon wasn't good but he started early in the morning and came into see my husband around 9pm. Just beware. That site is NOT the one to go thru.
  7. Hey all, a little update here. Was very frustrated about not feeling full. Went for an endoscopy and my surgeon determined that my stomach is "dilated" and is about 50% larger than it should be. Apparently this is somewhat common, about 10-15% of Lapland revisions to sleeves experience this. Now I need sleeve-revision surgery. Anyone else experience this? Perhaps three times a charm?
  8. I also has the sleeve done 3/2015, lost 155 and gained back 40. I went back to my Dr because of gerd and no restrictions when eating since 3 months post op. I have cigna, they approved and I am now waiting on the dr office to schedule the surgery. I would love to find out what the average weight loss is for sleeve to bypass revision....

APRIL 3, 2017 WLS SUPPORT GROUP

@bs19gal I had sleeve April 14 2014 and I was told to not to take any NSAID's. I am being revised to RNY April 11th but I would suggest to confirm with your surgeon just to be sure. NSAIDS can cause problems down the line but even more so to the healing tummy. Please just double check with your surgeon.

  13. I finally got the call today and am having surgery on April 17th! It is starting to get real now and my excitement is kicking in. I'm having my lap band out too. Starting my pre-op diet but less than two weeks away. Anyone else having revision from lap band to sleeve?
  14. resitton

    I think I am a hypocrite!

Same! I'm having revision surgery for the lap band and not telling a soul- I told people when I had the band... I hated that became the topic and from family- same stuff - can you eat that? Did you get sick again? Are you bulimic? ughhh I was questioning not telling until I read this.... thanks for the reminder!
  15. Pretty happy with my progress. Was hoping for 90 down today by today, but hit 88.2. so almost there. Revising my goal down now. Hit overweight last month! People le who haven't seen me in a year aren't recognizing me. So here is that...
  16. I was going to go with the sleeve but after speaking with my surgeon I am getting RNY. There were a couple of things I didnt know about the sleeve. Like with the sleeve they also have to cut the stomach away from other organs like the spleen. So there is an added risk they can puncture and have to remove other things. Also as far as staples go, even though the surgery for RNY is more involved the stitches/staples are only about the quarter of the amount that are used for the sleeve. So the sleeve has a much higher risk of leaking or other complications from the staple line. I also wanted to be held accountable. I was leaning to the sleeve because I wanted to be able to eat with my kids from time to time. I wanted to enjoy the bad things with moderation. Then I took a step back and thought if I was already thinking like this before surgery I was setting myself up to fail. Because I have the insurance I do, there wont be a revision option for me. I HAVE to make this work the first time. So for me its go big or go home Good luck to everyone!

    Having concerns???

Ok, the hiatal hernia is bcause the weight of the stomach area stretched the muscle that is around your esophagus near where it meets with the stomach. Imagine a hose attached to a balloon going through an uncooked bagel....stay with me here....if you pull the hose, the balloon is supposed to stop....if you have a hiatal hernia, the bagel is stretched so part of the balloon (stomach) pokes up through it. Now considering that the sleeve shapes your stomach like a banana, if that opening is stretched then a lot more stomach can shift up through there. Its not really age its more size and wether or not your "bagel" is stretched open or not. I hope I didn't sound too insane. Btw, I had a hiatal hernia repair on the same day as my sleeve and I hardly ever had pain or discomfort. Im 2 weeks+ out from a revision from the lapband to sleeve. As far as other hernias go, there's multiple reasons for them but age still doesn't save you. I was 21, in shape in the Army and got a hernia in my lower abdomen. Just happens.
  18. I'm so excited! I can't believe time has gone so fast since I got my surgery day in January! So I am having my band taken out and revised to a RNY. Over the last 2.5 months I have also quit smoking (smoked for 6 years) so that was a little taxing but I made it! My dr let me know that I will be in the hospital for 2 days so if there is anything you suggest to bring to the hospital I am all ears! For anyone who is ok social media I do have a fitness Instagram that was made when I was working out and training and trying the lose weight naturally (because my band wasn't restricted) but have since changed it so my IG name is rny_in_ny. I also have a blog RnyinNY.wordpress.com Just in case anyone wants to follow, I am going to blog as much as I can because when I got my band I never did. Anyone have band to bypass and are a couple months out?
  19. I had a band put in in 2008 and had it until 2013 - lost 120 pounds and did well until the scar tissue built up around my band and pretty much kept me on a liquid diet- couldn't eat anything solid without it coming back up! I had it removed and decided I could keep the weight off. I did for a while but eventually have gained weight back. I went through the revision paperwork and was denied 2 times and finally wrote an appeal letter on the last day of my 180 days to appeal and got approval. I have surgery Friday. I told people when I had the band and this time I'm trying to keep it to myself. I have a co worker taking me and was hoping uber can take me home from the hospital- I'm struggling with not telling my Parents and that big what if something happens during surgery... slim chance I know... but still the stress of figuring out how to make this happen is crazy- I wish there were services where you could pay a trust worthy stranger to pick you up, stay, and get you home.

    Panic time

I am having revision surgery on 4/20. I currently was very successful with vsg. I unfortunately had a ton of issues with reflux, gastroparesis, and esophageal dismotility which is why revision to rny. All approved with insurance and ready to go. I have pre op this Wednesday. I just have this terrible feeling something will go wrong. I have been stuck with all these issues and now I am getting it fixed. I guess I just can't believe it? I have also read all the rny horror stories I can find.. Anyone else freaking out? Anyone want a freak out buddy?
  22. Resleeves are done occasionally, either by themselves or as part of a revision to a duodenal switch. They tend to work best if the sleeve was somewhat defective - a stricture and/or too much fundus left behind at the top or bottom (the VSG is done by removing the major curvature of stomach, following the minor curvature of the stomach - problem is that the cutting/staple tools are straight and it takes lots of practice to get the curved profile right to avoid the above issues.) Often the resleeves are done open rather than lap due to having to work around the existing staple line. If the resleeve is being done due to normal capacity increase, the results tend to be less successful as there are often dietary issues as the root cause and cutting back capacity short term won't solve the longer term problem. Have they done any imaging to evaluate any shaping issues?
  23. I know a lot of lap band to gastric sleeve revisions and it seems gastric sleeve has been great success. I got mine March 27th. Good luck you got this!

    Dr. Jalil illan frajio

Accomplished Surgeon / Excellent Bedside Manners! I had a gastri bypass revision with Dr. Jalil Illan frajio on 3/28/17 and I was extremely impressed with him as a surgeon as well as a Individual. I feel he is the definition of Health Care... His main concern is your health and how you are cared for is extremely important to him!

    Do portion sizes get bigger

Compare it with the success rate of non-surgical weight loss and you will agree that it is a very powerful tool. As for the fact that not 100% of patients are successful: that's the problem with literally all therapies and it would be kind of unfair to dismiss the power of WLS because not every patient reaches goal weight and maintains it without struggle. No pill, no procedure, no intervention will ever have a 100% success rate for 100% of the patients. Doesn't matter if you're looking at WLS, medication against high blood pressure, cancer, high cholesterol or whatever. WLS is a surgical therapy and it's very successful compared with every non-surgical alternative but of course it's not 100% successful. Patients are reacting very differently and it seems like nobody knows yet why some patients reach goal weight comparatively fast and without much problems and maintain without much struggle and with only moderate awareness about what they eat or not eat (that most people have to bring up, btw) while others never reach goal weight and have to struggle a lot or why some patients become lactose intolerant after WLS or why their taste preferences change and that of other patients don't. That's never a bad advice given the fact that lots of people had a sedentary lifestyle before WLS and ate less than ideal foods a lot of the time. Anyway why is it that people have struggled for years (even decades) making these changes, it never worked in the long run and all of a sudden it works? A miracle? "Hard work" suddenly rewarded? The patient "suddenly getting a grip" on something that he/she never managed to do for the last 20 or so years? Or is it WLS working very powerfully after all because by altering the set point and the hormonal situation all of a sudden it's possible to implement changes because hunger and fighting the bodies urge to remain at the higher weight is no longer making this a hopeless uphill battle? It's like throwing the teaspoon away you used, trying desperately getting the water out of your cellar and putting a strong pump to work instead to get the water out. One is a hopeless struggle, the other requires less work and gets better results anyway. Why not embrace this instead of scaring yourself and getting the pressure and stress up again with concentrating on "the hard work", "strict diet", "rigid exercise regimen" and the like? You can concentrate on that particular windmill again when you notice that non-obsessive awareness doesn't do the trick. (And I will stop fighting against a certain windmill again right now, btw and I don't think most users on here will miss it, lol ). Obviously there is evidence that WLS lowers the set point again - within the blink of an eye. That might be one of the reasons WLS is that successful compared to non-surgical methods: your body is not fighting your weight loss efforts. But it seems like you have only one shot. That's why revisions don't seem to be that successful when it comes to weight loss.
