    Too many stalls, sigh!

What can you do? Relax and stay off the scale if it bothers you so much. As long as you are getting in all your Protein and Water and following your NUT and surgeon's instructions, you are doing what you are supposed to do. Stalls are a normal and natural part of the process. Our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines. Stalls go hand-in-hand with weight loss.

    Too many stalls, sigh!

Do you have an exercise program? In my first month I lost 33 lbs, but in the last two weeks just 5 lbs or so, and I have been fastidious about diet and quality Proteins with minimal carb sightings. Alas, I have had a few weddings, work trips, and family events in the last two weeks and I haven't done any more exercise than what it takes to get to and from work on subway/foot. I have receives taunts on Fitbit. In the weight loss stage, it is every bit as important as diet, and my rate of weight loss is tightly proportional to how well I stay on track with exercise. Eventually, there will be another twist, and that will be to hold onto muscle by doing resistance (though aerobic works fine for now, and technically I still don't have permission to lift).

    thinking of being banded

Hi Heather, First let me say that I'm very sorry about the loss of your Dad. I think you are doing great and are on the right track. I too am still in the beginning stages, researching and talking with Doctors. However, I can share with you that I am 41 and my DH and I just adopted a toddler boy and the extra weight I am carrying is making it difficult to play with him (bad knees) and do alot of things that I would like to do with him. That is only one of my motivators but I mention it because I thought that I could handle being heavier and lose weight when I "had the time" Well alot of years have gone by and it's just so hard to lose now with my metabolism slower than when I was in my 20s and 30s. I think you would do great with the LapBand and I wish you all the best in your journey ahead.
  4. I am 5'7" and have/had about 100 pounds to lose. I've lost almost 70 in about 5 months, and I'm 59. I agree one should incorporate exercise to help stave off muscle loss, but I did/do not. My weight loss has slowed some each month, but I am still very pleased with my progress. Good luck with yours!
  5. Ive got 100 to loose- almost at 5 months and 60lbs down. April- 18 May- 18 June- 8 July- 9 August- 7 I am anything but perfect..... about month 3 I stopped low carbing and ate like a normal person... in much smaller quantities and tried to focus on Protein. I did see the weight loss slow dramaticly but thats OK... its still going down. I work out 3x/week for an hour. I carry most of my weight in my abdomen and was worried about lose skin- but I wear a shaper every day to combat the sag and am hopeful I wont need surgery- just a lot of crunches! (FYI- I will most certianly need a breast lift though!)

    stretch stomach lap band

Actually, you can stretch the pouch above your band. Doctors put their Lap Band patients on liquid diets to try to shrink it back down all the time. food is supposed to pass through the band in less than a minute, however that is if the person is chewing it until mush and pausing between small bites. You can pile food above the band and it's actually pretty easy to do accidentally. This is why it's so important to stick to a cup or less of food per meal. Not for calories or weight loss but so you don't accidentally and unknowingly stretch your pouch. Best wishes.
  7. Thank you Emjay! That is exactly what I was looking for. They told me to stick to 1000 calories right now - I am 10 days post op. Your weight loss rate was really great! I hope I can achieve something like that as well. I am NOT messing around with this!!
  8. I have migraines and biotin did not make them worse, but everyone is different. Try Swanson's Hair Skin & Nails Vitamins - no biotin.

    No weight loss

This may sound harsh, but I'm going to address your concerns honestly, based on my success and what this whole process has taught me: You need to see your nutritionist right away. I think you are likely making some poor food choices and that is why you aren't seeing much weight loss. Are you staying away from carbs? Sounds like you need more Protein. Cheerios are not a good bet for Breakfast. Keep the eggs, but try maybe yogurt, kefir, or some other protein instead of any Cereal. It is important for your metabolism to keep eating. Why are you getting more fills if you can't eat that much already? You should be able to eat 1/4-1/2c food at a meal. Any less and you may be too tight. You shouldn't be in any pain or nausea. Maybe you should add in a Protein shake here or there to keep your metabolism up. Snacks aren't vital, but at least 3 meals are. And, are you exercising or at least walking? It is vital too. I don't think your food allergies should hinder your success, since you need to concentrate on the protein. But all in all, like I said, you need to see your nutritionist asap, and s/he can help you build a food plan that will work. It WILL WORK! Good luck!!

    Hair Loss

I wasn't quite 3 mos. post surgery when my hair started to fall out. It is still falling out, next month will be 6 mos. post op and I am hoping it slows down then.
  15. Hello, I'm 27 days from surgery and I feel great. I don't feel very much restriction at all, and it scares me. I am eating about 1500 cal. daily. I'm scared. Is this typical? I have not had my first fill yet. I am hoping and praying that it will create some restriction for me. I fear I will fail at weight loss with the Lapband. Has anyone else felt this way? Have you been able to overcome and have you been succesful in losing weight?

  17. Since having my surgery last year on Nov 9th I have noticed several changes in my body but just recently I have noticed a MAJOR change. Now I know it's Sunday so I am going to try my best to say this as tastefully as I can. But it seems as I continue to lose more weight another part of my body is growing. I guess I can add that to the pros of having weight loss surgery..atleast from a man's point of view!!!!

Hmmm I Have Noticed A Change!

  19. Hi there, I have just celebrated my six month "bandaversary." How am I doing? Well, I'm thrilled! The weight loss has been great. I am 52 and I wasn't sure how fast it would be possible for me to lose. I am very satisfied with the results. In November I was a size 18 in my Lee long jeans. This morning I'm wearing size 12 Lee longs. I guess I'll be getting some 10's next time they are on sale. I find this mind-boggling, as though it must be some one else! My collarbones are coming back and I find myself noticing more definition all the time. This morning I wore exercise togs that I've had for a long time and the shirt is like a dress on me. It was kind of tight before. I no longer resemble Mrs. Winnie-the-Poo. I carried a lot of weight on my belly and now when I stand on the scale I can see right down to the floor. Yes, there's still plenty to lose, but wow. Yesterday I had an appointment with the lap band coordinator at the hospital where I had the procedure. She is also banded and we had a great time together. I haven't seen her since the month before my surgery, so it's been a while. According to their records I am over fifty pounds down from the morning of my surgery. I don't go by their scale, though. On mine I am still one pound away from Onederland and I will be fifty down when I lose three more pounds. I was hoping to be there for this post, but that's okay. I know it will happen. That's one thing I am learning, patience with the process. How I can feel impatient when I've had this kind of success is beyond me, but I guess that's human nature and part of the "more, more, more" mentality that got me fat in the first place. I had labs last week and we reviewed all the numbers. Every category has improved, in some cases greatly improved. I am healthy, healthy, healthy! I still have a lot to lose (30, 40 or 50?) but I feel so much better now than I did six months ago. I know that there is even more vitality to come as I continue to focus on fitness. I am sleeping better, waking up rested and I am able to walk long distances that I would not have attempted a year ago. I feel strong and able. This site has been a god-send for me. I have not told very many people about the surgery and in any case those are not people who know what WLS is all about. They love me and want to be supportive, but let's face it -- only another banded person can understand the ins and outs of the thing. I have benefited so much from veteran banders, some still here and others no longer here. I felt very prepared for my surgery and for the months afterward getting used to my new lifestyle and learning how to listen to the band (nod to B-52 there!). If I start naming people I will probably forget some one and I don't want to do that, but I hope you know who you are. I really appreciate your willingness to share information and give support along the way. What's next for me? Well, more of the same, really. Keep increasing the exercise. Keep reminding myself that I'm not on a diet. Keep noticing everything. Notice if I'm hungry and eat when I'm hungry. Don't eat if I'm not hungry. Stop when I'm satisfied. Next week I'm going to get another small fill. I've learned what my body is telling me when it is nibbly too often or I seek larger portions than I should be able to eat. I pay attention to the amount and the frequency and I always eat high-quality "real" food. Am I perfect? No way. But I'm doing very well and no longer beating myself up. At all. For the first time in decades I feel like I can hold my head up high when I'm out in the world. I don't feel judged -- I feel like I fit in and that I'm being seen more for who I am than my size. I look better and feel better and there's a feedback loop there with the world. It's pretty exciting to crawl out of my shell and feel welcome. This band has been the most wonderful gift I could give myself and I'm grateful for it every day. November, 2013: May, 2014 (six months later): November, 2013: May, 2014 (six months later):

Little fill - 4 months from surgery

I had a very little fill yesterday .2 ccs. I thought I was already at 6 ccs, but the doctor said I was actually at 5.8. so now I am at 6. I am doing soft foods for today just to be safe. I lost 3.5 lbs in the past 2 weeks. I am now down 30 lbs!!!!! I have noticed that I am pretty tight in the morning and can not really eat anything solid. I started eating a few bites of yogurt when I wake up just to have food in the pouch and jump start my metabolism. Night eating is still the hardest part of my day. I get bored or something and want to munch. Any helpful ideas????? I do sugar free popsicles already. All in all I am really happy and pleased with the weight loss and the progress. My clothes fit better and my joints feel much better. I know I still have a long way to go, but I am on the right track at least and making head way. Oh and I have never had blood preasure issues, but when they took it yesterday it was 117/78. She said that was ideal!!!!! How cool. :smile2:
  22. I know exactly how you feel, I actually posted something similar to this not to long ago. I began to feel as if I were letting them down when my weight loss would be the same as it was when they had asked how much I had loss previously. Sometimes I wish people didn't know, because it is difficult enough for you to deal with how the weight is coming off without having to see peoples disappointment when it is not coming off as fast as they expected. But someone told me that you got banded for yourself and no one else, and a weight loss of 29 lbs is awesome and don't your forget it.
  23. So you've lost 29 lbs with NO fill ?!?! That's really great !! When do u get ur 1st fill.? Why would u be thinking about bypass when u haven't really adjusted to the band.? I think u should celebrate ur 29 lb victory ! If ur weight loss has stopped try going for the fill.I'm sure u will continue to lose.I'm losing about a pound a week at this point ( 10 weeks) and I'm good with it

    Old ways

Anyone have trouble changing their old ways even after surgery. As far as eating goes. I am afraid of not being able to do it or getting to comfortable. I am still waiting for approval and these thoughts keep going through my head like its not going to work for me. Or something really negative. I really want and need this tool for weight loss but doubt is setting in during the waiting period. Anyone else feel this or something similar. Please share your stories. And thank you all for listening. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  25. Hey all! It's been a while since I've been on, so I'm just checking in. I hope everyone is doing well! Since the last time I checked in, about 3 weeks or so now, I've been working on something that has been one of the scariest things for me throughout this journey, letting go. I'm almost 15 months post op and since my last weigh-in about 6 weeks ago I've lost 149lbs. I couldn't be happier with the decision I made to have this surgery! It has changed my life in more ways than I ever could have imaged and all of them for the best! One of the things this small but mighty tool has taught me is that it's in control not me, no matter how hard I fight it, so I need to just let it happen, which for me has been the biggest struggle along this journey but one I know I need to work to over come in order to sustain long-term success. For the last month I've been letting my band do the talking, not the scale, not counting the calories, not measuring etc. Yes, all of things are extremely important especially when starting out and during the weight loss phase so don't ver from that but when you approach maintenance there comes a time when you have to let go, live life and apply what you've learned throughout your journey. I will have to say it hasn't been easy, but slowly I'm getting there. So what do I mean by letting go??? During a year of measuring, weighing, counting etc. I've learned what a portion for me should look like in terms of size and in proper nutrition, so I've stopped all the weighing, measuring and counting and am focusing my effort on making healthy choices, eating when I'm hugry and stopping when I'm satisfied. When I want a treat I eat it and I don't beat myself up over it, I have to constantly keep reminding myself that this is lifestyle change NOT A DIET so there aren't any cheats, it's about finding that balance and learning what you can and can't live without. Last Friday was my birthday so we took a trip to the lake with some friends and yeah I had some treats but that's ok, it's not something I do everyday and by no means is it in the quantity it was before having this surgery so I'm slowly accepting it's all about moderation and balance, this is something I've always known but couldn't accept. Before I would've beat myself up over this for weeks, and stressed that one cookie or a handful of chips or a slice of cheesecake was going to make me gain weight but then I remember all of the posts on here stating the fact that 3,500 calories equals a lb and that it's all about calories out vs. calories in it made me feel better! Tomorrow will be the real test for me, I go to see my doctor and weigh-in, it's been six weeks since I've stepped on a scale so yep even after saying all of this I'm still nervous, BUT I know I'm still being monitored so if I need to tweek some things here and there now is the time to do it. Plus I've gone down a size since my last visit so that tells me something too:-) For the first time in oh forever, I actually posted pics on FB of me in a bathing suite and I wasn't a bit embarrassed so that right there makes this ALL worth it.
