To anyone in Sydney who has got the band I suggest you contact me!! There is a fantastic trainer who has helped a couple of my friends who have had the surgery lose weight and motivate them. One friend has lost 30kgs and has toned up a lot since being trained by him and the other friend has lost 21kgs. The only reason why I even considered trying him out was after I saw the awesome results my friends got. The best thing is he can relate to us because he himself had the surgery and has lost a massive 84kgs. I find that not only has he been great in helping me tone and get fit but he's great on the emotional and motivational side because he's been there done that. I would seriously recommend anyone in Sydney to at least give him a try. Contact me if you would like his details. The band is good to help you cut down ur appetite but exercise makes the most difference.

Years ago I joined weight watchers. They had this beautiful woman stand up and announced that she had met her goal weight that night. She looked like a size 0 so I was impressed until they said she had joined 9 months before and had lost 14 pounds. My mom and I didnt really know what to think. I told my mom that I had lost that much with one bowel movement. Needless to say we were cracking up. Not meaning to imply that I was not happy for her weight loss. Hello! I am new to the forum and I am so glad that I can talk with others who are making this incredible journey! I had my surgery on October 10, 2010, and I have lost 50 pounds. My weight the day of surgery was 230 and I now weigh 179. I'm still a work in progress!!

Yeah, it will pass. My stall lasted a week and a half fluxing between 176 and 179 now it fluxing between 174 and 176. Keep in mnd that it is all Water weight because you are not getting in near enough calories to actually gain fat weight. Good job!

Definitely sign up for a race! That's what really moved me from running a bit to lose weight into becoming a runner. My first was 4K, then I did a 7.5 six months later, then a 10, then a 14. I mainly stick with 10's now, that tends to be "my" distance, if I run more than that regularly I tend to get niggling injuries. 10's enough to keep anyone fit! But definitely having the goal gives you the motivation to get out and push every week. If you're anything like me I did NOT want to walk during the race! If you're more of a walker, that's fine, enter the race and set a time goal for that and gradually work towards time/distance. I think athletic goals are really really helpful, and there's NOTHING like the self esteem you get from winning a physical challenge - to me it beats actual weight loss hands down.

Day 3 and I feel a little dizzy
kerrisma replied to BeeKipp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was feeling dizzy and spaced out after my surgery and my nutritionist said it could either be dehydration and suggested I drank more water or, if you suffer from high blood pressure this is a normal reaction to the sudden weight loss. Whatever it was, it disappeared after 10days. If you're concerned speak to your doctor or nutritionist. U hope you feel better soon. Kerry -
One month of Boot Camp & the scale hasn't budged!
bambam31 replied to Ewiedbingcott's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Stay the course! You're activity level is going to pay off - you'll see. Definitely cycle your calories though, and it's always best to eat smaller and more frequent meals. You never want to eat a set amount day after day because your body/metabolism will adjust to it. Success will follow.... I've always been obsessed with the scale... It's just important that you weigh in at the same time of the day (ie: right after getting out of bed and after using the restroom) and keeping the readings in proper perspective. Finally, body composition is the real measure of success. You want to lose FAT not weight. Inevitably, you will lose some muscle and also fluids with the fat - you just want to keep the ratios properly aimed at the fat component. Good luck and keep working hard! Brad -
What is everyone's goals after weight loss? Mine are; To be able to keep up with my son. To have more energy. To be healthier. My weight actually embarrasses me and I do worry if people are making rude comments about it. So to be able to be confident. To not have to worry if a piece of clothing is going to be in my size. To finally work in a salon. (I swell up if I stand too long) To not swell up if I stand for a long time. If I go to a theme park, it's my goal to be able to fit in the rides without embarrassment. To take photos with my son again. Those are to name a few, what are yours?

Thx for the encouragement. Yeah, I know I can't be gaining weight, lol. Heck I am still Struggling to get anything in. I think that's part if ut I am not getting enough fluid in fir my body to let go of it. But I know it will there. :-)

I'm almost 3 mos post-op and will tell you that walking helps a lot! Start walking now and don't stop exercising. It will make a big difference in consistent weight loss. Also, I know I had that shoulder pain also. Once the drain was pulled out, I was much more comfortable and the shoulder pain disappeared. Weird to think that drain causes shoulder pain, I know.

Are you celebrating success with travel or adventure?

i "use" to sky dive before i put the weight on , and no longer could (weight limit). i would love to do it again, but as 40 approaches i wonder what the heck i was doing jumping out of a perfectly fine airplane...would like to think i'll do it again. dh and i are going to australia & nz after the first of the year - then plan on doing a ski trip in feb up in canada. hubby has always wanted to copter' ski & i haven't yet decided i will actually do it. we're pretty competitive w/each other. with gaining weight i lost my daredevil attitude, working to get it back. -
In my mind, based on my research, I am thinking it will take at least 8 weeks post surgery to get the bal rolling with the band. I watched a few YouTube videos of peope whio post every week and they all seem to have gone the 'Bandster Hell" period for an extended period of time. The all reached that frustration stage too where they doubt the band process. In the end they all lost lots of weight-lots! I am not sure how many fills you have had so far. But another Bandster posted that her doc. said it's like blowing up a balloon-once it has air in it -it only take a small amount (fill) to have a greater impact. .5 cc can be just enough-some people had that much taken out because of problems and it made a huge difference. If it was your first fill I woud say it's not enough...but if it's your 3rd or 4th fill that sounds right. Hang in there-your ride is just beginning and this time next year you'll be skinny!!

First Consultation With Surgeon
Getting on Track replied to dustbuster_00's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Terry and I live in Canada. I was banded in October 2010. I went down to Mexico to the Obesity Control Centre and had my surgery by Dr. Ortiz. It was a very good experience and in hindsight I am so glad that was the choice I went with. So professional and I think better than here. The entire facility is only for weight loss surgeries. Surgery is covered in Alberta but imagine the wait list. They said it could be up to 6 or 7 years because there are so few surgeons doing it. The price in Mexico was less than half ! My progress has been slow simply because to get fills here they will only do 1cc at a time. I have an 11cc band so you get the picture. There are no hoops to jump through, they take you as a patient. Something to consider. My BMI started at 38.5 and it is now down to 33. So slowly but surely. -
Oh yall!! I made it to Twoderville!
peacequeen replied to Sarah E. S.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't lose weight, you are probably building muscle and that will reshape your body to fit into smaller clothing. That's so awesome..congrats to you! -
Congrats on your band first of all, however while I know that you are pumped up about doing exercise you are still in post op mode. If you want to do arm curls and stuff you need to check with your physician. Here is the main reason they want you to take it easy, any form of exercise that you do with your legs core or arms has an affect on your port, which could flip. or the cord that is attached from the port to the band which can become detached. Keep up the walking but remember you are healing and in this process you will gain some weight and that is expected this is the time you need to pamper yourself take your time, soon enough you will be able to do core, legs and arms. But as always double check with your Doctor~

My elliptical- my wonderful, wonderful elliptical, is broken. One of the pedal wheels is broken. I ordered the part ($100!!!!!) and got it and went to change it and it looks like I'm going to have to take half the elliptical apart to fix it. My dh, though wonderful, is not at all handy nor helpful. I have been on SUCH a good kick! I'm up to 40 minutes- 10 min at level 1 and 30 minutes at level 2. SOOOOO- Of course I have other things to do- my Wii is broken and we're not replacing it until after the new one comes out around the holidays so I can't do my Wii Zumba. i do go to the Y for zumba 2-3 days a week, so that's covered. I have been walking in my neighborhood. I have TONS of The Firm videos, karen voight videos, etc- so there are lots of other options available to me. So, just reassure me that even without my elliptical for who knows how long I will still lose weight! I've been doing so well- I guess I should get one of those fitbits to see how many calories I burn with the other exercise. Just need my peeps to encourage me!!! LOL Reassure me that all those other things I can do are as effective (or is it affective? no, I think effective- this is the one that always eludes me). Thanks for listening. No one but DH and my mom know I"m banded irl, so I NEED all of you

:welcome: The time is going to fly by. It's so hard to wait for something you know will make your life so much better - but like mommy2girls mentioned you can use this time to make some good healthy changes and habits. scale back the sodas and caffeine. Learn to take tiny bites and make a small meal last at least 30 minutes. Cut back on the carbohydrates (especially bad carbs) and get used to more lean Protein and fresh veggies and some fruits. Start up a light exercise routine (especially walking)... I cannot say enough about this and how much it will make the weight melt off! Start drinking more Water and get up 64 oz per day or more. These will all be things that you'll need post op and will keep the weight coming off. I can tell you will do really good with this. Stay positive and keep coming here for info and friendship. Hang in there! It just keeps getting better and better!!! :whoo:

"new Rules Of Lifting For Women" Anyone Try It/have Experience?
emily_0192010 posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hey everyone Have you heard of the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women"?? I want to add in weight training into my exercise routine. Right now i'm just doing cardio really, and a few machines (i don't know how to use them, so i've had to take a lot of time to learn each one). I heard about this program through MyFitnessPal and i'm curious to know if anyone here has experience with it? I'm a bit nervous since it apparently uses free weights, but on the other hand following a program would be easier than "winging" it right? Thanks! -
Newbie here, Hello all ! Could use any support please =)
RoseNewLife posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please call me Rose! I'm so happy to have found these forums, I feel like I've been on a very lonely and scary ride. I do have an excellent lap-band doctor (Dr. Deol in Michigan) and I've been to her seminar, had my first consultation, and I'm currently going through a lot of tests from other doctors, to make sure I'm healthy for the lap-band surgery. I've seen many doctors so far, but still have a ways to go, no surgery date yet. My starting weight is 248 pounds, my height is only 5'2", making my BMI 45.4, putting me into the morbidly obese catagory (sigh). I have a lot of health problems in my family history, including diabetes, heart disease, and several types of cancer. My current problems are "only" high blood pressure, degenerative joint disease, and *possible* coronary artery heart disease, but this has not been confirmed yet (seeing my cardiologist next week). I want to lose this weight first to improve my health, and hopefully avoid further health problems, second to improve ENERGY (don't we all need some of this! :whoo: ) and last just to look and feel better about myself! I'm so tired of baggy unattractive clothes. Being short, it's even harder to find clothes - I think the clothes stores assume all heavy people must be tall! So that's a little about me . . . I'm hoping to get all these tests done and get banded SOON! I could use any support and suggestions anyone cares to offer :help: I don't have much in the way of family at all, and could use someone to really talk to. My husband supports me 100%, and he's a good listener, but he's just not the best talker. I have an 11 year old son that has autism. I just need someone who really understands all of this! Thanks so much, looking forward to talking to all of you! -

Welcome to LBT! I have also just started my journey to Band Land and this site is such a great wealth of information. What caught my eye on your post was that you have an 11 year old son with autism. I also have a 3 year old son with mild autism. He has been a great motivation for my wanting to lose weight. He is EXTREMELY active (too young to diagnose ADHD or ODD, but it's a definate!) and I have a very hard time keeping him safe, ie: running into the street, running away from me, running out the door when we are in any store etc.. I have no mobility, I can't even take him to the park or the beach alone because I simply cannot catch him. So, just wanted to say "hi" and "welcome" and if you want to PM me, please feel free! I pretty much exercised regularly since having the vsg. Started walking everyday from surgery and built up to about 3 miles before I started Jazzercise and tap class at a month post-op. I had short little stalls here and there, but I also wasn't as compliant with the post-op diet as others. I low-carbed (around 30 grams or less) it for 3 months, but did not always get my Protein in. At around 3 months I was over half way to my goal and decided to try and lose the rest the way I wanted to maintain. For me this included exercising 5-7 days per week and not tracking carbs. (I felt that I would burn them off with the exercise:-) I did notice that the couple of weeks I couldn't exercise as regularly (due to snow, illness, etc.) I seemed to have bigger losses than those weeks with lots of exercise. Don't know why this was...could have just been a change up to my routine that allowed me to drop fast. So I guess what I'm saying with all this rambling is that I don't think exercise was crucial for weight with the vsg, but I do think it was important for allowing me to lose it the way I wanted to (carbs and all).
-
:tongue2: I've never had much luck with exercise helping me lose weight. What it DOES do, however, is help everything else! I feel better, sleep better, have a better mood. I lose inches and gain muscle. I look better, my clothes fit better, I'm healthier, I get sick less. So while I will probably lose more weight due to the VSG itself, I can't imagine doing this without exercise. Why on earth would I want to go from a fat, doughy, flabby body to a skinny, doughy, flabby body? Lean and trim, all the way!

I too have walked everyday since my surgery-just about!!! I wanted to do so much more, but was limited until my 6 weeks check up. I wasn't allowed to lift over 10lbs and NOTHING abs at all!! After 6 weeks I could do whatever I wanted to do! Now, I jog and lift weights. Kelly
