    55% gastric sleeve!?

I was 35-37 BMI dr removed 80-85%.... I would not go thru this for only 50% it's a long life and having to do it again would be worse than losing and extra 10 pounds or something. Obviously my own opinion. I am only two weeks in and it's a great life this past week. If you have already talked to two different DRs it maybe that this is the only route for you in the US. I went to Tijuana awesome experience total of 5 people I know went to same practice. Approx 4k Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Slipped a little off the plan

LOL! Your post made me hungry thinking about good food! You could have done much worse, so you did pretty good considering the temptations. Pizza is my downfall, too. Everyone at home is under strict order not to get it while I am on this 10 day diet. BTW, Applebees's menu has some Weight Watchers meals on it that are low calorie and really tasty. I can have a Lean Cuisine or WW meals for dinner, after drinking protein shakes all day, under my 10 day diet and the Applebee's meal tasted soooo good the other night. When i looked up the nutrition facts before I went, they were surprisingly similar to the frozen meals....and MUCH better!
  3. At 7 days post op I was told to change from 5 Protein drinks per day to 4 and add 1/2c. mash pot or applesauce and 1/2c. yogurt or pudding. So, I sort of moved into mushies at 1 week. I am only 2 weeks post op (banded 10/12) and am now fully on mushies. I saw my MD yesterday and he said for some people, swelling goes down really fast and they are hungry sooner than others. Don't worry about a thing. Be happy you have the o.k. to move to mushies. I do not think it means your band is not working. I think it means you are healing well. People keep telling me this stage is for healing (not weight loss).
  4. i recently had an unfill of 0.3 cc. i had a total of 2.2 cc in my 10 cc band. well, my tiny unfill has made a HUGE difference... too much of a good difference.!!! now i can eat whatever i want - no restriciton!!!! i called my dr's nurse and made an appt to have a small adjustment this coming tuesday. i'm sooooo scared of gaining any weight back..... and i didnt want to wait until next month to 'fix' it..... i know i can eat too much.. we went out to eat and i ate...... (hangs head in shame and guilt.....) two crunchy tacos, side of rice and hadfull of chips/salsa!!!!! OMG - i could NEVER eat that much before.... i cant' wait until i find my elusive green zone!! i'm still trying to follow my portion sizes, and not drinking w/meals - but i'm really excited to have some restriction again!!!!!

    Best Post-Op gift ideas?

My biggest suggestion is to just be patient and supportive over the first few weeks...all those bodily changes can have some really, um...interesting effect on the mood! My mom got me a bunch of gift cards for clothes after my surgery and I appreciated it so much...after being overweight for years it was actually fun to go try and figure out what my personal style was when I wasn't as hamstrung by having to find the few items in the store that fit me. (19 months later I'm still trying to figure that out, but I'm learning!) Another suggestion for gifts might be a nice bariatric-friendly lunchbox or meal prep stuff for when he returns to work and starts eating a wider variety of foods. Having ways to transport your meals is important!

help I have lost my restriction

Stan, I lost a lot of Weight really fast. Now I sit on my butt all day for 10 hrs then ride for 10 hrs with very strange sleep patterns. I have stopped gaining after 27lbs. But having a hard time with losing the weight I gained back. Im sure a lot my issue is my new life style and incorporating exercise in my day.

6 days of liquids and ready to snap

Oh girl..I know exactly what you are feeling! I just got off 2 weeks of nothing but clear..broth, popsicles, and crystal light. I did call my doc about 8 days into it and asked for some cream Soup. She told me that she couldn't tell me what to eat, but that I was on the clear for a reason...to heal. My stomach could spasm and cause a slip. That's all I needed to hear. I stuck to the clears for the full 2 weeks. I cried, I whined, I felt like the life had been sucked out of me!!!! I had no energy..I went to bed early, I took naps...anything to make the day go by faster. The 12th day I chewed up a piece of pizza and spit it out. LOL!! I made it though..I swear it was the worst thing I went through. Now I'm onto thick liquids..soups pureed, pudding, yogurt, grits, oatmeal, V8! I feel like a new person. Hang in there...it will pass and you will be so happy you stuck to it. I lost 19 pounds in those 2 weeks too!! You can do it!!

    First day on Mushy

Hey Nurse restless monkey or anyone else who wants to answer I am new to banding 7/6/09 and new to this website, I read what you wrote about the guy who felt he could keep eating the one who took a bite of his wife's pizza (yum) just 10 days after banding, anyway you seem to know a lot, I would like to ask you a few questions.. I was banded 5 days ago and I don't know much about why I'm on Clear Liquids for 14 days (broth, tea, decaf, protein shakes etc, I've been starving since day 3. Do they do this so we can truly know what it feels like to starve? And it seems like other people are on mushy food after 1 week. I don't know if I can make it 2 weeks on clear liquids. Maybe my Protein drink is not adequate, i'm drinking carnation instant Breakfast or slimfast and i add more Protein powder to both. Help.
  9. Hello. I was banded in July 2009. I have only lost about 10 pounds  I finally started losing weight this summer but that's only because I had severe pain whenever I ate anything solid. I also started getting reflux so the doctor took all the fluid out for 6 weeks. I gained it all back. I am now filled back to about 4cc. I was able to eat about anything with the exception of breads, rice, and pasta. Now I am feeling the pain again when I eat. But if they take a little fluid out when I don't feel pain, I have no restriction. I know they tell you its not suppose to hurt, but honestly, for those who have been successful when losing, what does it feel like when you eat?

    My New York NSV!

So I got the chance of a lifetime to get to go to New York City on work....but then stayed over the weekend for my birthday (it was the 7th). My wonderful boyfriend flew out for the weekend and we had an amazing time! Heck, that I have a boyfriend (we're at about six months) is a HUGE NSV. But the one I'm talking about today is that now, at some 90 lbs down...I was able to walk EVERYWHERE in New York. I had energy that amazed even my boyfriend. (amazed me too). I just kept giving thanks and praise to Trink (my band's name) for giving me such freedom, such energy, such joy, such happiness. I got my life back and it was never more affirmed than it was on Sunday, my actual birthday....we left the hotel at 10 am and returned at 8 that evening. We walked NON STOP. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge...I never got winded or had to stop, I walked proudly holding my man's hand. My God I'm so thankful for Trink! She's been a godsend to me. How amazingly my life has changed in just the bounds of eleven months. My goal is to get to 100 lbs gone by my bandiversary in one month. I may not make it but it's a nice stretch goal. Here are some photos from the trip! This is me as we're just about to walk the bridge: This is me on the bridge: Here I am with the statue of the Bull near Wall Street. The joke is...I'm a Taurus...get it? The bull with the bull on my birthday! And this a photo my boyfriend snuck...I was taking a shot of Grand Central station and he was shooting a photo of ME. Lol! For reference...here's what I used to look like...

    3 days post-op: my experience

Oddly enough day 1 and 2 wasn't that bad, probably still high on pain meds. LOL Day 3-8 were challenging due to port pain, sore/swollen stomach, horrible gas, unable to sleep comfortably which added to my aggravation. I'm 10 days post op and I'm feeling almost back to normal. I'm back in school, working full time and most importantly---sleeping COMFY.

    I have a date!

Congrats, another July Bandster. I'm Sherri, I'm getting banded July 10, in Monterrey Mexico. I don't now yet but I would say listen to your doctor. You don't wont to twist real fast and tear a stitch and your port move or something. Just mho though. Good luck and will be thinking of you. Sherri
  13. The thing is I am sure you are eating a lot less than before the band (we were all massively overeating or we wouldnt have been obese). For me, (an old dog in maintenance a long time) I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food at each meal which can be 4 to 5 times a day. I really cant eat more than that of any food (I have no sliders) and I done eat any low cal or diet food. As I lost weight my band did loosen and I had to get fills to keep losing. My first green zone was at 6cc in a 10 cc band and took 3 fills to get there. Then I leveled off at about 180 lbs for MANY months until I figured out to go get a fill. Once I did I started losing again easily and then I plateaued at 155...I got 0.3ccs and in a couple of months went to 140.
  14. I am 5 day post op. I had gastric sleeve on 6/19 and was sent home 6/20. I thought that was extremely soon. Anywho, I am having random stomach pains. They remind me of the pain felt when trying first meal post surgery. It happens so sporadically throughout the day. Even my pain meds can’t keep up. I’ve been told it’s normal but geez this is so painful. I do ensure that I walk and I’m getting about 30 oz of fluid on a good day. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anything I can do to help minimize the pain or make this whole process more bearable? Also, everything that I have tends to run straight thru me.... literally. I take a few sips of broth and can feel and hear it work its way thru my system. In 15-20 mins, I’m seeing it again from the other end. Is this normal?
  15. Hi, everyone, first of all, English is not my native language, so please, take it easy. I went through Gastric Bypass surgery on May 19th, it's been 45 days today, July 3rd. I found out that I had a stricture 10 days ago (anastomatic stenosis), the diameter of the stricture was 8mm and through endoscopy, the doctor could enlarge it to 12mm. But even after it, it was difficult to eat soft foods, so I was hospitalized once again and yesterday I had my stricture enlarged again, now to 15mm. The doctor told me to eat only pureed foods for 30 days until I get another endoscopy done and see if it's okay to eat solid foods again. So in the best scenario, according to the doctor, I would reintroduce solid foods only within 1 month and 1 week. It feels like an eternity, I crave to eat something else than creamy soups and fruit and protein shakes. I'm thinking about trying to introduce soft foods a little before that to know how it feels, like chicken soup, with soft potatoes and minced chicken. Would you do that too? Have you ever had a stricture? If so, how did you take care of it? I'm so worried and impatient about my case. Thank you!

    The Stall...

Well, I had an absolute DOH! moment today. My scales were stuck at the same weight for a solid week, right down to the ounce. My BF weighed himself this morning and weighed exactly the same as I did. That couldn't happen, he's probably 10 pounds more than me (he's much taller). We took the batteries out, replaced them, reset the scales and voila!!! I was 2 pounds lighter!!! (He was 8 pounds heavier!) These crappy scales have had me depressed for a week! Make sure to check the batteries in your digital scales, folks! It matters! (This commercial message was brought to you by Diane, your BariatricPal dumbass!! LOL)
  17. Hi Everyone, Yesterday I hit 100 lbs lost, my surgery date was June 11th, so that makes it 100 lbs in 9 months. This morning I weighed myself again convinced I would have bounced up a pound (I have been stalled for nearly three weeks, so understandably suspicious :-D). But to my delight I had crossed over the fabled "One-derland", 199 lbs. I say fabled because it seemed like something that happens to other folks, I just wasn't sure it would happen for me. I guess you can say this is how I have felt through this whole process. Probably nearly 30 years of weight loss failures affecting my attitude! But somehow I lived through the presurgery liquid diet, the immediate post surgery diet phases, fearing different foods, first for my tiny tummy then for impacting my weight loss, multiple stalls that made me wonder if this was the end of the losses, would I be the near the bottom of the spectrum, only able to lose 40-50% of excess weight? But my sleeve has kept me on the straight and narrow, I have made the good food decisions and exercise changes and together we have lost 102 lbs! Which as of today is around 70 percent of my excess weight. I feel like I definitely have another 50 lbs to lose both in my heart and on my body, I really think I will by-pass my Doctors goal of 165 and get down to 145 lbs. If you are reviewing these posts to decide if weight loss surgery is a good decision - let me share that not only do I thank myself ( and my Mom for helping with the cost) everyday for choosing this solution, I wish I had done this 10 years earlier. I feel great, I can walk and workout without feeling like I am gong to pass out. I started in a size 26W and 3X, today I am wearing a size XL fitted tee and size 16 misses jeans. It has all been worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Measurements

I measure every weekend. I do chest, stomach, waist, biceps, thighs and calfs. Since my pre op on 8/19 I've lost 26 inches.

    Scale

OMG I so agree. I was more worried about the sugery and realize now the surgery was the easy part! Post op is like food withdrawal, detox and rehab all at once. I keep saying never again but like hello...How could I do this again??? I will say I pulled out some clothes that were in the area of the closet called "save just in case i lose weight one day" and HOLY CRIPES the stuff fits! This is the first time I feel like maybe, just maybe I made the right decision. This is by far the hardest thing I've ever done and I served in the Army for a long time. Probably because we have to face ourselves, and deal with ourselves with this surgery and that is the hardest thing to do.Sleeved 10/28/16 SW 263 CW 237 Sent from my LG-H631 using the BariatricPal App

    Scale

I felt like crap for a week and was also hungry. I'm just 19 days out and feel great. I walked 1/2 mile yesterday! As for your scale. Give it to Goodwill and let it make someone else crazy.

    Changes in friends

Hi Globie, I found my friends changed over my life, slowly but surely. The friends we see most now are part givers as well as goers if you get my drift. I have had my fair share of friend who let you do all the running in the past. I *love* my friends that make the effort becasue it shows they care too. Plus they are grade A hoots and make mean cocktails. One of my daughters is in the process of sloughing off a couple of so-called friends now. She has come to the conclusion that they only drag her down and never support her when she needs a shoulder to cry on. I am really impressed that at nearly 19 she has seen this, it took me far longer to work it out! (My other daughter takes after her father and has always chosen friends wisely). She is so excited about going off to university in September, she is looking forward to meeting new people and has been deciding who she wants to make an effort to continue seeing in her school and vacation work friend groups. All the best to you. Jane x
  22. Hello TheSpoonieLife! I'm going through OSUWMC too, but I'm in about the same stage as you in the process, so I can't help with all of your questions. I had the psychological evaluation on 10/20 and haven't scheduled my nutritionist/medical evaluations yet. As far as the requirement for monitored dieting before surgery, I think that depends on your insurance. I have OSU insurance and I am required a 6 month supervised diet program before surgery. However, it is required by the insurance, not the Bariatric Program itself. Sorry I don't have many answers, but I wanted to at least say Hi!

    19 days till my wedding!!!

Look on the bright side, You have 19 days to recover, just relax and wear flats until then. You can take your shoes off if you need to at the reception and switch to flats there. Since the actual wedding isn't usually more than an hour you should be able to wear the shoes for just that little bit and then change
