  1. Today I was cleaning my garage and came across some old jeans and shorts. It shocked me how big they were. I had forgotten I guess how far I've come. I held them up one by one and marveled that they ever fit me. I was pretty sure I had found clothes from my very heaviest - 330 ish and size 28W to 32W or 3x to 4x range. I checked tag number 1...size 20W. Checked the next...sure enough they were all 20w to 22w. It hit me like a ton of bricks to realize why these were forgotten in garage was because they were WAY to small when I moved to this house. I spent a few minutes feeling sad for the woman who would have considered 20w pretty damn good clothing size/fairly trim. Then I emotionally moved on to gratefulness that I have attained a normal weight and size. I am surprised how much this event shook me up.

    Started Preop Diet

The good news is the pre-op gets easier the longer you are on it AND you are gonna lose a good bit of weight from it! Congrats!
  3. In 9/08 I started to exercise daily and progressively improved my food choices. From then through presurgery and after I have lost 109 pounds; with 27 since surgery in 8/10. Personally I think those shows on TV that have someone with huge pieces of extra skin are questionable. MOST people don't end up like that; which is why people that do go on TV. Is sensational. Okay off my soap box. I don't have excess skin at all. Admittedly I need to lose another 100 so my ideal could be a bit off. Everyone loses weight at different speeds. I don't want to discourage anyone but some people like myself are slow loosers. I follow my doctors orders (measure out 3 oz of protein per meal), eat healthy foods, AND exercise every day for an hour. I have lost an average of 1 pound per week. Today was my 6th fill now at 10 CC's in 11 CC band; and really really really hope this will brings restriction. I don't think doctors really emphasize enough that it can take a while for you to see significant loss; probably until you reach restriction. I think I have been slower because I was already dieting and exercising before surgery so my body was not shocked by a huge change in eating habits.
  4. I have one, and I can hardly feel it so far. I'm just over halfway to goal, so we'll see how it goes as more weight comes off. I think my surgeon uses them exclusively, as both I and my friend (who was banded by him the same day as I was, but at a higher BMI) have the low-profile ports.

    Fast Weight Loss

Yes, I agree with Janiece. Enjoy it girl, because it will slow down . I was banded 6/17/11 and had lost 21 lbs in 2 weeks. My weight loss has slowed down but at least I'm losing. Good luck!

    Fast Weight Loss

Very normal; you're experiencing a loss of water weight and a decrease in glycogen levels, so yes, normal, to be expected, but it won't/doesn't last for long.

at goal weight band to sleeve

I was just wondering if anyone was at goal weight when they had their revisions from band to sleeve? What was the process like for you? Were you treated as if you were a new patient? I was banded 3 years ago. I have lost 100+ lbs and have gained a love for fitness. I am 5’3 and 130lbs. I feel that I have been very successful with the band. In December I got a lower body lift and tummy tuck. I got sick coming out of surgery and vomited several times. My band has slipped. I was on full liquids for a month and my band did not correct itself. The Bariatric clinic will not do surgery to fix the band they will revisions to a sleeve and I am okay with that. I don’t like that I have to do the whole process over again as if I am a new patient. My band has to be deflated for 3 months, I have to attend group and see the nutritionist for three months.
  9. Hi Guys I am having my surgery done on the 25th of february, I am so scared!!! Also I was wondering after how long roughly would it take for me to start losing weight , Have any of you experience lose skin ? Thanks sunshine
  10. Hi all - New here. I was banded last week on 7/27. Doing great. No nausea or vomiting, just some sore incision sites and sore left shoulder. Oh yeah, starving! So over the liquid diet but I am obeying. This is my question. I am losing a lot of weight rapidly. I am on day 6 and have lost 22 lbs. I am not complaining at all but is this normal?

    Feeling Great

I am one year out. Have not lost nearly as much as I had hoped - however, I attended my 50th high school reunion looking great! I am not putting any weight on, which is a BIG deal for me as usually I am back gaining at this point of a "diet". I have lost 4 pant sizes, want to lose 2 more and I am working on that. Got to get exercising. Feeling good about myself after a long time of not feeling good at all.

    Feeling Great

I know how you feel, it is great! Any weight loss and not gaining it back is awesome. And the sizes in clothing mean a lot too because you are also losing inches! I went to my 40th Class Reunion three months after surgery 38 lbs lighter and felt terrific! Congrats on 50! And keep it up, this site is such a help and motivator.

    5 months out.

I am feeling wonderful. Energy, motivation, self esteem are all on the rise constantly. My current goal is to break into the 100's, It was coming on very fast and then I decided it was time to hit the weights. So now I have been stuck in the slightly above 200 for 2 weeks now. But it should turn around shortly.
  14. What scale do you use @@OutsideMatchInside? I have just a little cheapy and I would like something I will automatically deduct the weight of the plate the food is on.
  15. Wow, that is definitely unusual. Mine gets looser as I lose weight. The only time mine gets a little tighter is when it is that time of the month or if I am under stress.

    Increase Protein?

I get 60 g of protein. My surgeon said inscreased protein can help speed up weight loss. I wish I could tell you why, but I didn't ask. I figure that he is the expert, so I will take his word for it. lol

    Adult tonsillectomy

OMG, if I thought the pain from the gas after the WLS was bad, I was soooo wrong. I'm 5 days post op after my tonsillectomy and all I can say is "OMG I think I'm dying!", this is the most horrible pain I have ever experienced:sad:! My throat hurts, my neck hurts, my jaw, tongue, head and ears hurt! Plus it feels like im swallowing around a knife. But the reason I post this is because I'm losing alot of weight due to not being able to eat, so basically I'm starving here. Think I will gain it back once I can eat again? Like when you yo yo diet how you always gain it back after returning to eating normal. Just seeing if there are any other people that have shared my pain or have any thoughts on the weight loss. ps: if you have kids that have chronic tonsil problems, get them removed while they are young! its 20 times worse for adults and recovery is twice as long.

    feeling sad and sick

I'm sorry to hear that it has been so hard for you. I, luckily, didn't have nausea past the 1st week, but I know it's the pits. Also, depression seems to be the norm for those a month or so out. Glad to see that you are seeking help for the hydration - that is very important at your stage. Besides the good advice from those above, the best advice I can give is to give yourself time. You will start feeling much better as each day passes. Buyers Remorse is very normal at this stage. But, at 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, etc ... you won't regret it. You will be losing weight, feeling better, and learning just how all this works. Your body is going through a lot. Give it time to catch up with your head and heart. <<<<< HUGS >>>>> to you. Please let us know if we can help. We are good listeners!
  19. What your diet and exercise will look like following the procedure. I am having the sleeve. I want to set up a menu plan. I don't cook so it has to be very easy meals. And what kind of exercise and when did you started to exercise after the surgery. I do zumba, strength weights, yoga, machines, I was going all five days and then I stopped for # months and went back on my birthday on nov 8th then stopped again and been back 3 days. Do you all have menus or a list of food that he eat all the time, like a set eating plan. Thanks
  20. Everyone shares their NSV's on here ... which are so incredible to read ... But I have to share one of mine from last Saturday night ... It was the office Christmas party ... and in the past ... I didn't like to attend ... because of my weight ... I know, I know ... stupid reason ... but ... you all know where I'm coming from ... So this year ... I didn't mind going ... It was at a local sports bar/pub kinda place ... And I was drug up ON STAGE to sing Karaoke !!!! ME!!! And I actually liked it ! So much so ... I did it 5 times and had a ball ! There are so many positives to losing weight ... and coming "out of my shell" is definitely one of them I'm the girl who always sat in the back ... hid from everything ... always told my husband "I can't" ... Well now ... I CAN ! I finally CAN ! Thank you Surgery Gods !
  21. Why not focus on something other than weight loss? Set yourself a goal like to complete a fun run or something, whatever it is that rocks your boat, to provide some external motivation. I absolutely believe I was successful with weight loss this time round not only because of the band but becuase I found this love for running and a lot of my focus was taken up with achieving THOSE goals, so that weight loss became secondary. Because I was a slow loser, there were many many weeks where I didnt lose.
  22. The first 6 months weight comes off with exercise and diet. I'm into 11 months and only loose a pound a month now. I even gained 2 pounds but lost it before it got out of hand. I have to change my routine and mix up my workouts now. buts its a life change, and takes time. you have done really well.

    Brazilian Reconstruction?!?

Adr: I have lost 95 pounds. It took me about 15 months to lose it. I want to lose 15-20 pounds more. I've gone from a size 22 to a size 8. I love my band. I feel like it has saved my life. I was pre-diabetic, had pulmonary hypertension and a bad knee. I feel like a new person. I don't wake up every day feeling bad about myself. That being said, the lapband is a great tool, but it is just that. I've had to watch what I eat and exercise. I exercise 6 days a week. But the band gave me the confidence and the structure that I needed. I knew that when I lost the weight it would be permanent. I committed to a new life style. Pretty scary, but the best thing I've ever done (beside marrying my husband and being a mother). You can learn more about me in the cosemtic surgery section on the thread entitled, "kareyquilts, tummy tuck, lipo, breast lift," etc. Let me know if I can help you.

    Just wondering about fills

Where were you banded Sherrylynn? At my clinic, if hunger has returned and weight loss stopped, they will start our fills at 4 weeks. The physicians and staff have recently updated the post-op progress and diets. I had my first fill at 4 weeks, and the second 3 weeks later. I will be trying to arrange my 3rd fill for later this week - it will be a smaller increment, but I'm not quite there. The weight loss really won't start until you have reached a proper retriction - this takes time. Hang in there and check to see if you have to wait another 3 weeks before your first fill - it seems a bit long. Cindy

    Just wondering about fills

Sherry Mandi is right - I am really impatient too - but the weight didn't come on all at once - it will take time and work to get it off. Let it happen - good idea to book your fills for 2 weeks apart, easier to cancell if you don't need them, but it must be frustrating to have to wait so long. Hopefully your doctor thinks about training some of his nurses to complete the fills. Cindy
