I'm 3 weeks post-op and having A LOT of trouble getting enough Water every day. Before surgery, it was easy, because I could just gulp it down. Now, with having to take tiny sips, I feel like it's nearly impossible to even get 1/2 of my daily requirement (64 oz). I've been pretty sick since surgery, so I've been living mostly off of water. Anything else makes me more nauseated. The doctor found and corrected a small stricture last week, which we thought would help... it hasn't too much. I've been to the hospital twice, because of problems staying hydrated, and I don't want to go back. Any tips on water intake and getting enough? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Paleo is a lifestyle of eating like our ancestors did millions of years ago (or so they say!). No preservatives, lots of Protein, low carb. No bread, rice, Pasta - just things that used to move or grow. I think it's low in dairy also. My stepson is into paleo. I can't go without carbs! I tired Atkins a few months ago - lasted 4 weeks before I caved. At least with paleo you can eat lotso fruit (can't with Atkins). Good luck with it! Marci

About two months preop i stopped sugar, including pasta, bread and all starch. Plus i stopped caffine and i dud this on my own. My preop diet from my dr was A shake twice a day and then chicken and salad for dinner, for two weeks. Then three days preop clear liquids only. I stuck to it pretty close and never cheated while on liquids. I think it helped prepare me for sure.

Hello, this is my first time posting but I have been lurking fir quite some time. I am 29 days post op and I am EXTREMELY dissapointed. I have followed my Drs orders to the tee. I have gotten in my 64 oz of Water and my 70 grams of Protein daily (1 Premier Protein and the rest from food). I am very particular about what I eat and I always choose lean Proteins and no bad carbs or sugar. I am allowed to eat about 550 calories a day and I have use MYFITNESSPAL to make sure I meet that. The only thing I have been unable to do is walk much. I have NO energy. When I grocery shop, I am usually about to pass out with dizziness at the checkout counter. Here's my dilemma. I have only lost 13 lbs . I know we are all different and lose at different rates, but I have lost more weight than this on every program I have ever been on. I don't regret having the surgery, but I am certainly feeling like I may be the one anomaly that will fail at this process. I have read many stall posts and i find my case to be different than most in that I lost all my weight within 10 days of surgery. That means I have been on a 19 day stall that started basically one week after surgery. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did things ever turn around you? Does 550 calories sound low to you? I've spoken to both my Dr and my Nutritionist and they both agree my weight loss has been low. I am almost in tears here, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't been hungry what-so-ever
SoccerMomma73 replied to missKAYLA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, enjoy not being hungry, soon enough you'll head the other direction :smile2:. Follow your guidelines. My surgeon requires you to drink 64 oz of no sugar added fruit juice mixed 50/50 with water...helps keep your energy level from crashing so low. I think I averaged 500 calories a day the first week...now averaging 1000-1200 (3 weeks post op) but fairly certain I could eat a cow, as long as I took small bites and chewed well! -
I just researched some of the medicine I am still on and the say they cause weight gain. I am 3 weeks post op and now scared to death these meds are going to slow me down in my weight loss journey. My goal is to be off all my meds as the weight comes off but until then is it sabotaging my weight loss? Does anyone else have this concern?

Hello, I had my surgery at Clovis, CA/Dr. Higa. All went Great, very little discomfort. I have only one problem. I was told to take Milk of Mag for constipation. They said, I need to have some gas and BM, to let them know all is working properly. The Milk of Mag hasn't worked. I took it last night. My husband said, dont take any more. I have been on a clear liquid diet, and am not hungry. I have no pain. Does any one have any advice. I called my Dr's office, but no one was in and I hate to call the Dr at home if I don't need to. Does anyone have there solution handy? Thanks and I am so happy and grateful for this Band and the hope it has given me.

Decrease in weightloss!
latido replied to plsfinder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was losing a pound a day, and then suddenly one week out, I was losing four pounds a day! Three days of that, and I didn't lose anything for three days... this morning I weighed myself after a three day stall, and lost another 3 pounds. I think it is a strange hormone/pms/bowelm chain of events which cannot be considered on a daily basis. Think holistically in the greater scheme of things. -
i am starting this thread so i have a place to come and just mindlessly chatter when the urge to snack hits me. i currently have no fills and will be this way for at least another 2 weeks, maybe more. i am having a really hard time keeping on track and eating correctly. so this will probably be kinda boring and not really saying much other then here i am again to avoid snacking... feel free to join me if it will help you.

Have date for surgery and questions ?
TQUAD64 replied to Gingeralemom72's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I was banded on 11/11/08 and went back to work on 11/24/08. My doctor told me I could go back to work anywhere from 1-2 weeks. I wanted 2-weeks off, just I could have some "Me Time" at home. So when I went back to my stationary job on the 24th I felt great. I was energized and was in the right frame of mind. I ended up staying in the hospital for 2.5 days. It was hard managing my pain, because I have a hard time tolerating pain meds. I wore an anti-nausea patch for several days, which helped with the pains meds. Once I was home, I took the prescribed liquid Loritab. This worked well. I slept a lot and walked a lot. The gas pain hurt, but was managed with pain meds and walking. I felt great on day 7 post-op and was driving and shopping. Good luck! -
Fills are quite affordable. Adjustments done under Fluoroscope are approximately 20,000 Yen. Sounds like you will be doing fine by the time you reach Japan. I will ask for a referral and forward the info to you in the next week or so.

I'm four days after my first fill, 3 ccs in the band. Not much restriction. So I had a piece of halibut, an ear of corn, some pieces of cucumber, and about half a plum at dinner. Three hours later I'm really hungry. So I had a teaspoon of peanut butter. The halibut was half a lb. before cooking. Was this a good day or did I eat too much?

Newbie-A Little About Me :)
rosehips replied to ditto88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How are you? Ya know, a person can't be perfect on the PRE op, if we could we wouldn't need the surgery. Once you have the surgery you hopefully will not turn to food during those emotional times. I use to turn to food at the drop of any stress/conflict in my life. The reason I don't turn to food post surgery is because something has happened in me that makes me feel like I am "divorced" from food. There are so many rules, ie: can't drink for 30 min after eating, chew, chew, chew. I still get a little nausea at 10 weeks post op but I am glad cause it makes me not want to eat. I think I get nausea because I eat too fast, I am struggling, how can a person make 4oz of food last 20-30 minutes??? Once you get this surgery everything will change, and since you know you eat emotionally support groups are important for us to reduce this component for our long term success. Hang in there -
Hey My name is Jenna and I live in Connecticut. I am thinking of getting banded but I havent spoken to my Doctor yet. I made an appointment with her for next week but I am so curious about the band and the results of people who have gotten it done already. I am very overweight and I have been my whole life. I just want to be healthy and comfortable with myslef. Two people I know had it done and have had great results. Can anyone tell me more or give me some advice... Hope to meet everyone! Jenna ~

Sorry to get personal for ape of our ladies but I had my monthly period during my surgery and then now two weeks later its back. Does anyone know why or have had this happen?
-
Hang in there. The first week is rough, but then you're going to feel so much better! Like James said, walking helps with the gas. Nobody said you had to speed walk...but just moving a bit at a time makes a difference.

Hey! I had my surgery on 10/12 too!! My first fill was about 6 weeks ago and it was 2cc in a 4cc band. He said my stomach is small (of course, my stomach is small...BUT nothing else) and it may take more than others. I will be getting another fill again on Monday. I anticipate probably .5cc, I get restriction on dry food like DRY DRY meat and bread. Other than that I could eat a horse....right now the band is not helping to limit my intake (by sending those full signals) so I'm assuming it's still pretty open.

How many calories to support you're fitness level
erp replied to Healthy_life2's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I exercise 4-6 days a week and only need about 1300 calories. Are you large framed or tall? At less than a year out, I wouldn't up my calories that much until I got to goal. -
I am 3 months post-op. About 2 weeks post-op I had my first ever gallbladder attack. I went to a GI, had an ultrasound, and they discovered stones. They said it wasn't urgent and I should wait. Well, I waited over 2 months which landed me in the ER with gallbladder pancreatitis. Thankfully, mine was caught early and a simple procedure removed the stones from the ducts and my pancreas healed. The next day I had my gallbladder removed. That was a few days ago. DEFINITELY go see a doctor. The pain is worse than any I have ever felt and being untreated could lead to much more serious issues. Honestly, one of my biggest questions is why they don't do a gallstone screening pre-banding. I think if that were done many of us could avoid this. I'm still in recovery from surgery but I know my life is going to be a lot simpler without the frequent gallbladder pain. Keep us posted and let us know how you are doing!

3rd fill - having problems
CharmedMist replied to breesue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, Ready2, they put 4 in on your first fill? I've had three fills so far and only have 3 cc's so far. Maybe that's why I don't lose "as fast" as some of the others. I wonder how the doctors decide who gets the amount they give and why.
