    Overweight instead of Obese

Good for you Tiffy! It's a long struggle, but I'm so glad there is help out there for us, that is a great BMI. . . the doctor thought my BMI of 41 was not enough to put me on a pre-op diet. . . . that was my first NSV! :001_tongue:

    My first NSV

Okay...may be a stupid question, but what does NSV stand for?

    100LBs lost today!!!

Congratulations! I share your feeling of accomplishment. I, too, hit the 100 lb mark and reached my goal weight, too. I lost 10 whole lbs on the 6 month diet my insurance required, 25 on the pre-op liquid diet (I ended up on it for 3 weeks instead of 2 because I caught a slight cold and my surgery was bumped a week), and the rest after surgery. My favorite NSV is when buying scrub pants for work (I work in a doctor's office) I can say "I take a size small, thanks." Used to be 2X.:mad2:

    6 months post-op update

Well it has been three months since my last blog (6 months from surgery) and I'm happy to say I've lost another 30 lbs for a total of 90 lbs lost!! Current weight- 274. Whoo-hoo!! I think this is the first time ever that I've lost weight during the holidays. I've been averaging a loss of 10 lbs a month. Very happy with that. I've been getting very small fills. In fact I've only got 3 cc's in my 10 cc band. I still don't have alot of restriction but I count my calories, exercise and follow the rules. We've had a very cold winter so instead of doing my walking outside I've been doing low impact cardio workouts. My two favorite being Shapely Girl and the Biggest Loser Power Walk. I'm looking forward to warm weather and today I signed up for the Blue and You fitness challenge. This is something I did last year and it's basically just making a commitment to exercise 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Now what I'm really excited about is that I signed up for my first 5K!! It is May 3rd and I have the option to walk but I would love to run as much as possible. I know I can easily walk 3 miles but I haven't even attempted to run. I have wanted to try running but I don't want anyone seeing me. I know this is something I need to get over but when I go to the walking trails the only people I see running are already really fit and skinny. Ugh!! Well time to get over it because starting this week (wait it's snowing) ok next week I'm going to start training for this 5K. So besides all that my band seems to being doing well. I have had some pain in my left shoulder for about 3 months now. At first I thought I had injured it but then I realized that the way the pain would come and go, hurt when I would bend over for any length of time (cleaning) and when first laying down in bed that it seemed to be a nerve issue. I did some research and found that it is not uncommon for bandsters to have this pain. It is caused by a nerve- phrenic nerve- that runs through the diaphragm. It hurts everyday but luckily not ALL day so I can handle that. Other than that I haven't had any problems really. There is nothing I have found that I can't eat (but alot I choose not to!!) Oh yeah, I had a pretty sweet NSV this morning. I was chatting with a co-worker this morning and looked down and realized that I had my legs crossed. Wow! It's been a long time since I could do that.

    Second Thoughts

Just thought I would post my non scale victory (NSV) for anyone wondering what life is like after the band. I went away on a driving trip for a week. We ate every single day in the restaurant. My band kept me honest every single day and meal. I have a loose fill of 5.75 ccs in a 10 cc band and I was able to eat anything I desired including small amounts of a white bread roll. For the fun, I kept track of everything I ate and the quantities. When I arrived home I weighed myself and lost 1/2 lb. Oh so sweet. Normally I gain weight on driving trips. No matter what I may go thru with the band, I would never be without it.
  10. One of my best NSVs has been the ability to sit in both vinyl and canvas lawn chairs without worrying about them collapsing under me!

    Loose tummy skin

That's funny, but truthfully, it's commentary.....and inspiration. Hell, if I could, I'd post it as a NSV... I know this is probably TMI, but the look of wonder on my face he saw wasn't based on how good it felt when I was in a certain position...but more my amazement that I could even get my legs and waist bent that way...
  12. I climbed a mountain. No seriously, I CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN! I stopped doing uphill hikes MANY years ago because my tachycardia was so bad it made me short of breath to the point I had to rest every 20 feet. Today? I hiked for 14.2 miles. I took the shorter but steeper path up, and the longer but less steep way down. I climbed 3989 ft. I reached the summit of our local mountain. It was amazing. And for most of the uphill, I was able to stop at normal people intervals. And only 4 people passed me (one at the beginning, one in the middle, and a couple at the end. I did stop more frequently when was getting closer to the summit, but I really don't think it was moreso than the average exhausted hiker. My HR WAS quite high during all the incline, but my breathing was still controlled. And this is WITHOUT my tachycardia medication which I had to stop several months ago because my BP was getting too low. Needless to say, this is a major victory.

    If the seatbelt fits...

eating out - Soups, chili, non-fried appetizer (shrimp cocktail is always a good choice), or order an entree that fits into your program's parameters (nothing fried, basically Protein and vegetables) and just eat a cup of it (or however much you're supposed to be eating now). Then have them box up the rest (that is, if your hotel room has a fridge!) congrats on the plane thing - that was a huge NSV for me as well!
  14. I had my six week follow up with my primary care physician today. I like it when the nurse walks in and tells me I need a new picture for their file. I don't look like the original they took a year ago. The doctor was happy with my current weight loss. So that was the good news... ...Little did he know that I am at the same weight I was two weeks out of surgery. I didn't handle the Christmas holiday very well at all. I've tried to refocus this past week but am not having much luck. I feel like I could eat everything and anything, and sometimes catch myself doing just that. I've tried asking myself why I'm eating just to give myself a chance to put whatever I have down. That worked well for a while. Now I am eating because I can. I feel hungry a lot more often and there isn't any restriction to help. I don't go in for a fill until January 4th and it feels so far away. Somehow, I have to get through the weekend without completely losing it. I told myself I would be the same weight, if not less, on January 4th that I was at my two week checkup. As of this very moment, I'm losing that wage with myself. Instead of being down, I'm actually up two pounds. It makes me want to cry. I thought I could be stronger during this four week stretch. So while I love the reaction of the doctor and the nurse, I'm not happy with how I'm feeling right now. I don't want to be hungry anymore. I want to be able to eat a few bites of something and walk away from the table, not belly up for more.
  15. Going off my diebetes meds. was a huge NSV. Imade an appt. to get some bloodwork done. Maybe I can go off the blood pressure and cholesterol too! Clothes fitting that haven't fit in years is a great one too. I haven't needed to buy any clothes yet, despite a 67 pound weight reduction, since I had so many sizes in my closet.

    List Your NSVs for Inspiration

Great NSVs! Last week I went to a spa and the girl handed me the standard robe NOT the Super Size one and it fit! No spa treatment could be better then the feeling I got from that.
  17. I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring in about 5 months because it started getting too big. I took it in today to be resized. It is going from a 7-1/4 to a 6!!!!! I am shrinking all over

    Any February 16th bandsters?

Congrats to you Shelly on your weight loss. I do hope your careful next time though, that could've been really bad. I'm glad your ok though! And Congrats to you Babe on your NSV!!!! I'm like you have been going between 214-219 lately. No losses, and I was scheduled for my 3rd fill on the 19th but it got pushed back a week because of the EGD if have to get for my shoulder pain. I'm kinda bummed that the weight was coming off so fast in the beginning and now its just stalling. I failed my Shrinko De Mayo challenge but I did lose 6 lbs total from it. I don't want it to get to me too bad, maybe I'll measure myself later. I hope you all are doing well and we must keep in touch. Later!

    Nsv!

Yesterday I went shopping at Target and decided to try on some clothes just for the heck of it. Well I grabbed all plus sizes since the brands there run small and I never thought after only a few months I would be in non plus sizes. Well well. All of the 1x stuff looked too baggy, and since everything rapidly gets bigger on me now, there was no way. I ended up buying a adorable dress and an amazing skirt...BOTH sized XL. First time that's happened since High School. Danced the whole way home
  22. That's awesome. I hope I can do the same next year at the Disney Half Marathon. That is such an amazing NSV. Congrats!

    I just realized......

    Yay for NSV's!! That's progress ; )
  24. Nicely said Alexandra I also think that as you loose fat around your stomach and it shrinks, adjustments may need to be made. I don't know if the "sweet spot" when you feel the optimum restriction, last for very long? I thought I'd mention NSV(non-scale Victories) whats your latest? my wedding ring fits on my index finger. Carol It was nice to meet you! Keep sipping the Water, in a few weeks you'll be gulping it. Did you meet with Marty the nutritionalist? Did she have any good suggestions? So girl, you own a Harley, cool.
