OK, every post you make makes things sound worse. IMHO, get some marriage counseling. You both need to learn how to fight effectively. I've had insecurities about my weight loss as has my spouse. Inappropriate conversations with the opposite sex almost certainly would have been a bridge to far, though. I'm not sure either of us could get past such betrayal. But, that's us. "You're supposed to say that" may reveal some of his thinking. "I'm insecure about your weight loss" may be something he's "supposed to say" to excuse something wrong he gets caught doing. Get professional help. Men and women are different. Go figure. Sometimes we need help learning HOW to communicate, in a safe space. Again, good luck.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I know he is insecure about my weight loss. That was the reason he gave when he was caught *behaving inappropriately* I havent been able to really talk to him about my feelings because our conversations inevitably turn to how he is insecure and what I can do to help him not feel that way, or what I did wrong to MAKE him feel that way. So it was frustrating when he made a comment to make ME feel insecure, but not feeling like I could communicate that to him. Y'all are right. I should let it go. It is not worth the headache and potential argument.

I'm a guy. I don't see this as the hill to die on. This is him dealing with an awkward comment by old acquaintances. We're not always quick on our feet. Take the intended compliments as a win. From your several comments, it sounds like this is just the most recent of a long line of comments and actions that have bothered you. My take is that he may be feeling insecure and may be why he is defensive about everything. He's the same shlub you married, but you are now becoming very attractive and might want to trade up. If you and he let the resentments build it won't end well. The rapid changes of weight loss surgery tend to make good relationships better and bad ones worse. You need several conversations where you both can express your concerns and commit to your devotion. Several conversations. Insecurity is quick to build as this situation cranked you up. Reiterate that you both are on the same team. Communication will help solve this one way or the other. Not communicating can only end one way. Good luck. Tek

@sillykitty I know you didn't post your actual backside, but got some hits of some bootylicious-ness in those hips lady 😍 @Arabesque love the little foot raise, lol...also is your hair naturally "bendy"? I spend way too much time trying to get that little hair bend look at the tips, and when I do, it lasts like 2 hours. Sigh. @GreenTealael I don't remember seeing this jacket before, I like! @BayougirlMrsS your boobs ARE getting bigger! are you sure your surgeon didn't just move your stomach to your chest???? @kristieshannon oh my. what can I say. Rawr. I can think of lots of scenarios where you can wear that and light the room on fire, aside from the obvious dinners, nights out, etc...I say it's also appropriate for watching TV, mowing the lawn, walking the dog, going to the dentist.....

I'm looking at this now from the women's perspectives - it's kind of awkward NOT to say anything when people have clearly lost a ton of weight. Pretty much everyone has seen me by now at a normal weight, and a lot of people never knew me when I was obese, but the first year or two after surgery, I got A LOT of comments. They kind of bothered me, but then again, when someone DIDN'T say something, it was almost weirder. Like...how could they not notice that I've lost 200 lbs? (I'm sure they DID notice, but it seemed weird to see the look on their faces, and then not having them say something). One woman, who clearly didn't want to mention my weight, asked if I had new hair style. WTF? I almost burst out laughing. The whole situation is just awkward all around. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Your husband probably didn't know how to respond to their comments other than to say something humorous and move on.
  6. My dad always told me that when you cant stop dwelling on what people say about you, you are letting them live rent free in your head. Well...there was a comment made on Sunday that I cant seem to evict! My husband and I were visiting my inlaws in another state. We attended the church where my FIL is a preacher. We always attend church with them when we visit. Last visit we made was 2 weeks post op, so I had not lost really anything at that point. This was the first time the people at the church have seen me since my extreme weight loss. A lot of people made comments about how great I looked, and that didnt bother me at all. However, two ladies came up to my husband and I, told me I looked so good, then they turned to my husband and said, "looks like you really made out on that deal!" My husband laughed and said, "Yeah my investment really paid off!" For background, we got married two months before my surgery. I tried to laugh it off in the moment, but I really had to bite back tears. I have never felt that my husband looked at me any differently at 284 or 140. He himself has said that he only saw me, never my weight. He says he loves me regardless. Both comments, from the lady AND my husband's reply has been on repeat in my head all week. Who finds that comment appropriate to say to anyone?? I was a catch at my HW and I am no more or less of a catch at my CW. He didnt marry me hoping I would lose weight and look better physically, at least I would certainly HOPE not, seeing as he is overweight himself. It was inappropriate and hurtful. Normally, I would address my husbands comment with him in private. However, our marriage has been rough (to say the least) lately and I didnt want to start an argument. I know he will tell me that it was a joke, I am being too sensitive and overthinking it. Which...maybe I am but that doesnt make the comments hurt less. I dont know...I guess i just needed to vent to people that would understand!

    Loss of Son

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad to suicide and it is very tough. I found that time was the only thing that really helped. It went from being the first and last thing I thought about each day to being the second thing and so on. Now I am finally able to think of him and smile. You are already a step ahead of me though at this point. I let the stigma of suicide keep me from talking in the beginning which is what we need to heal. I was already in therapy and I felt that helped me a lot as well but that may be because I wasn’t taking to anyone else. Still, Something to consider.

    Any March Surgeries?

I am having the same difficulty. I am 12 days post op and only 6 pounds down. It's so depressing, it's making me question my choice. Before surgery this kind of diet I would lose a ton of weight and now after weight loss surgery nothing. Everyone keeps saying gas and water retention, because they can't really explain why. I take blood pressure meds, which include a water pill, so I am not retaining. I never even new this could be a possibility, please let me know when things change.

    Skin removal surgery

Yes ... my weight loss slowed, then plateaued a bit as I got to what I thought was my goal. But then I lost another 10-15 lbs in 4-6 weeks. That weight loss took me from a C cup to an A cup. Even after I was at a steady weight, below "goal" my body seemed to shift. I have pictures of me in a dress, and then 6 months later, at the same weight it hung on me.

    Skin removal surgery

Still fighting with my insurance over plastics. That I will an at-least-partly self-pay is something I have accepted already (I want a lower body lift as well and a thorax wall lift with breast skin-removal). It will be four surgeries in sum I guess, each being 3 months apart. I'd like to have it in two rounds as well but the surgeon I chose (seems to be the most realistic and honest one plus his results seem to be good and I don't want to travel far away) won't do that. Oh, well... Germans have a different stance on everything self-pay than Americans, I notice it again and again. It also irks me that I have to take vacation days for surgery. What I also notice again is that every time I think "Ok, weight loss is finally done!" there goes some more weight. I already noticed that I started losing again after my board certification on 22nd March. (So much for that "window of opportunity" regarding weight loss.) Since a weight loss of e. g. 3 kg or so really shows once you seem to be past a certain BMI I'm saying once again: glad I've waited!! @sillykitty: wasn't it you who said something in that line as well? Like a rather small amount of weight made a hell of a difference you didn't expect?
  12. I had surgery when I was 55 and post-menopausal (I went through menopause at age 51). I lost all of my excess weight. I was a slow loser, but it was consistent. P.S. age IS one factor in your rate of weight loss - so is gender, activity level, metabolic rate, starting BMI, and how closely you stick to your program.
  13. Your rate of loss is very personal. Some older women lose quickly, others more slowly. Just as some younger women lose slowly & others rapidly. You may have fewer or more stalls on the way. I do remember people used to say it was harder to lose weight as you get older. Not bariatric surgery related. Just one of those things people said. Old wives’ tale or fact I don’t know. In saying that, I was 2 months shy of 54 & menopausal when I had surgery. I reached my goal at 6 months (31kgs/68lbs) at a pretty average rate. I then lost more in the year after - just over an additional 11kgs/25lbs. A good friend, a year older & also menopausal was slower, about 9 months to lose a similar amount to reach her goal & she’s way more active than me. Good luck. You’ll get there in your time.

    Bile reflux

The DS is certainly the preferred solution for bile reflux problems - it's about a sure a fix as you can find. assuming that you have a surgeon who knows how to do it. Looking at the anatomy, and you see that bile has to go many feet down the inactive (non food) channel before it gets to the common channel where it and the pancreatic enzymes, mix with the food, and it would have to move many feet back upstream against the food flow to reflux into the stomach. The bypass is a less certain fix as the pyloric valve has been removed and the pouch moved just downstream of the bile ducts, but it usually isn't a problem if they make the roux limb long enough (sometimes in non-WLS variants of the procedure where they make the limbs shorter to minimize weight loss, bile reflux is a real problem.) As the DS uses the same sleeve that you started with, or maybe a resleeved version, it doesn't usually help with acid reflux, unless the original sleeve was poorly made (it happens, though not too often with a DS surgeon who knows how to make their sleeves.) Virgin DS's tend to be somewhat better on this than the VSG as they usually use a larger sleeve that is less prone to reflux problems. In short, you got the best procedure available for your bile problem - be happy.
  15. My surgeon advocated for bypass over the sleeve due to my being menopausal (among other reasons). He said age and hormones definitely impact weight loss.

    Lie on food log

I am in maintenance and I do have a sweet treat occasionally. As long as I get right back on plan, I haven't found it to be a problem. Like you, it's not realistic to think I will NEVER again have a sugar-sweetened dessert. That being said, I was more strict during my pre-op diet. At that time I didn't eat off plan (although I did break down and eat yogurt when I was supposed to be on liquids only for 10 days). It's not the end of the world, but try to stick to the pre-op diet as good pre-op dietary adherence has been found to correlate with good weight loss outcomes. Don't beat yourself up, just try to start over.
  17. I was 58 when I had my surgery. Already way past menopause. I weighed just under 300 ( cant't remember but in in my stats I think) pounds a week from surgery. I hit my goal of 150.0 pounds in July or August 2019. (The stats are on my ticket I think) I thought that was a pretty steady weight loss. Good luck with everything. Di
  18. Welcome! Glad you found this forum -- it has been incredibly helpful for me as I've gone through this process. There's a lot of great info and advice here! I lost about 70 pounds in the 5 months before surgery, and hands down, the best thing I did to prepare was logging everything I ate in MyFitnessPal. I think that was the key to my pre-surgery weight loss and is something I've continued since my surgery. There are other similar apps (there's one called Baritastic that's specifically made for bariatric surgery patients), but I started with MyFitnessPal and liked it, so I'm sticking with it. I think it's also a good idea to get into the habit of drinking more water and tracking your water intake (you can do that in MyFitnessPal, too). I didn't really work out before surgery, and maybe it would have helped if I had started earlier, but I started a few months after surgery and now I work out and take walks every day.
  19. I was sleeved January 27th 2021 starting weight was 215 day of surgery went down to 200 first 3 weeks after surgery, but I have since lost weight very slowly I was in the 3 week stall for about 3 weeks at 199 and today 2 months post op I am at 191 and I know it is still going down just really slowly about 1 pound every week or two and I am not sure if this is normal I just feel like it's so slowww!! anyone else in January? how is it going or has anyone experienced really slow weight loss?
  20. I take the once-daily ProCare Health vitamins (with 45mg of iron), a Biotin with 10,000 mcgs, and three BariatricPal calcium chews daily (I get the strawberry, grape, and caramel to mix things up!). I haven't noticed any increased hair loss from before surgery, and I feel really good!

    Weight Loss Medication for Regain?

I pretty much do this every day; I stop eating after dinner around 7pm and don't have anything again until morning around 7am and then it's coffee (with oatmilk). I am now trying to juice (healthy vegetable juices) 2 days a week. But I just made an appt to see someone here about some weight loss medication. Thanks for the information and support

    April surgeries

deena10 I'm on day four of the liquid diet. Mine is very strict, too. Down 4.6 lbs so far; my doc wants a 10 lb loss by the surgery date. I'll see her on Monday for final visit before the big day the following week.

    Band to Bypass

I had sleeve to bypass in October 2020 for GERD etc. After the initial 2 weeks, I have been very happy with the results. Not just weight loss, but no more GERD, reflux, vomiting.......

    Coffee after gastric bypass

I guess I'm a rebel who started back on coffee a month after bypass. I limit it to 2 cups in the morning, use sugar free coffee creamer and I'm a much happier person for it. I'm all about the long term sustainability of my weight loss, so I don't want to give up and/or deprive myself of the small pleasures like coffee.

    Any surgery regrets?

I would not do the band. In fact, hardly any surgeons place the band anymore - there have been way too many problems with them, and many people have had them replaced with sleeve or bypass. Sleeve is a good option as long as you don't have GERD. honestly, complications with either bypass or sleeve aren't that common and are usually minor. For some reason there's the opinion out there that these are really risky surgeries and you're bound to have a lot of problems, but it just isn't true. Yes you'll always find people who've had a ton of problems with weight loss surgeries (both sleeve and bypass), but for the vast majority of us, we sail through them just fine and have no issues. The only thing different about my life now (other than being 200 lbs lighter) is that I now have to take vitamins every day (and of course, I eat less that before)
