  1. Had a egg for breakfast yesterday and have yogurt for lunch and cantaloupe for snack time and ended the meals with mash potatoes! Was only able to eat about 3 teaspoons each time, but oh my! Really embracing this new adventure. Anybody know when I will be able to start light exercise? Surprisingly I do feel a little more tired, but it's the new body adjusting to a new change. I'm still going to enjoy and appreciate this new journey! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Here is some more indignation, I find in an online article on Pinterest. Main Menu How to Prevent Saggy Skin After Vertical Sleeve Surgery By Tatyana Ivanov A vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight loss procedure recommended for treating obesity. During the procedure, a large portion of the patient’s stomach is removed, leaving a small pouch behind. This pouch fills more quickly than the larger stomach, allowing the patient to feel full after eating less food. Due to the typically large amount of weight loss experienced, loose excess skin troubles many post-op patients. While genetics largely determines the amount of loose skin you experience, taking a few easy steps before your surgery can prevent additional sagging. Things You'll Need Neoprene weight loss wraps Skin firming lotion Weights Water Vitamin A supplements Antioxidant supplements Exercise March in place, stretch your arms and rotate them in small circles or swing them back and forth for 10 to 15 minutes. This will warm up your body for additional exercise. Walk on a treadmill or the street for 10 minutes daily, four days a week. Wearing a neoprene warming wrap while walking will help boost toning. Stretch and work out trouble areas for saggy skin, such as the arms, thighs, stomach and butt. Gently lift legs and arms from a seated position. Wear the neoprene wrap on these areas to increase firming. Lift small weights, generally two to three pounds, to increase toning in your arms. While standing with arms dangling at your sides, lift the weights out and up until they are at the same level as your shoulders. Nutrition Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. Drinking enough water helps hydrate skin and improve elasticity. Eat foods that are rich in Vitamin A, such as low-fat milk and yogurts. Vitamin A helps regenerate healthy skin cells to replace damaged ones. Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as berries, plums and pomegranate. Antioxidants help with healthy skin and are beneficial for the heart and metabolism. Avoid foods with large quantities of refined sugar and carbohydrates, as well as over-processed foods with empty calories. Other Preventive Methods Apply a skin firming or tightening moisturizer all over your body after showering, paying special attention to your trouble areas. Avoid smoking and smoky environments. Wear sunscreen of SPF 40 or higher when you are going to be exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  3. A liquid is basically anything you can suck through a straw. Caveat because, yes, one newer post op member here asked the question... MILKSHAKES DON'T COUNT. As @@Hammer_Down said, clear liquids are generally low calorie or calorie free and you can read a label through them. Water, tea, broth, SF flavor enhanced drinks like Crystal Light or Gatorade would all count. No, you can't have fruit juices either. Too much sugar. Full liquids would include Protein shakes (watch the carbs!), Soups like tomato, bisque, creamed veggie, etc. But again, watch the calories and fat. You don't want to consume creamy potato and cheese because that would defeat the purpose. Liquids is basically....liquids. Some diets will include yogurt, sf Jello or pudding, and Popsicle on the liquid side, but that's up to you.

    Post op liquid diet

Not necessarily, but I wouldn't go overboard. Your stomach is healing. I stuck with Protein drinks, yogurt, and Water. I could have used crystal light to flavor the water, but I figured that it would be one less thing for my belly to worry about while healing. Im on soft foods now, and I love cooking with spices. Spice and flavoring can also have nutritional value, but watch the salt and the processed flavorings. Just my opinion. I'm new to this, so I could be wrong Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using the BariatricPal App
  5. Also sleeved 11/2. My plan allows most soft foods at 4 weeks. I've had no trouble with eggs, re fried Beans cheeses yogurt cottage cheese. Also deli meats and even grilled nuggets from chick fil a Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I'm not doing shakes anymore (thank God cause I hate em) but I start my day with Greek yogurt which has 14 grams of Protein, then according to my NUTRITION COACH, for every 1oz of meat I eat (chicken, Turkey, fish) [steak later on for you] it's about 8 grams of protein. Also with your meals eat your protein 1st. If you're eating 1/2 cup [4 oz] if you ate a 3 oz piece of turkey and 1 oz of lima Beans, that's about 30 grams of protein right there. That's breakfast of 14g for the yogurt, lunch 30g from the beans and turkey......your at about 45 grams for just those 2 meals. You could also drink low fat milk to get your protein in its about 8 grams of protein a well. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

im not allowed milk, my liquid diet consist of 4 Protein Shakes and 3 light yogurts "where the dairy is going why i can't mix my Protein with milk" and then all the Water, crystal light, sugar free Jello and popsicles i want but i can only do the 2 protein shakes, i can't manage to do more it literally makes me sick just thinking about how i gotta have another one "i hate all protein shakes, always have probably always will" lol
  8. I started my liquid diet on December 2nd on first day i followed schedule completely which is morning, lunch, dinner and evening snack is a protein shake and I'm allowed 3 light yogurts a day and then all the water, crystal light, sugar free jello and popsicles i want but on day 2 and today i just felt sick every time i knew i had to drink a protein shake, so i only got 2 in instead of the 4, will that not shrink my liver? i haven't cheated and ate solids my only problem is, is that the protein is so gross to me i can't stomach drinking 4 a day
  9. Boy, I remember those days, just keep doing the best you can, it will come together, I struggled with Water, and as you said, waiting to eat after drinking it was difficult for me. But now I get around 70-90 Protein in a day, so if I get low day I am not too worried. Fish is lighter on your tummy and is packed with protein, canned tuna with a little mayo is good too. Peanut Butter also goes down well. Like the above said, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, all help. Keep a scale handy, to keep track of oz's as protein goes up with larger amounts, eggs as well , hard boil them to have on hand.
  10. Try nectar fuzzy navel Protein it is clear and tastes like tang. Ask the doctor if you need a certain amount of Water or if the Protein Drink counts for that. Mix plain Greek yogurt with sugar free jelly. Eat cottage cheese...mostly the Protein drinks. My doc let me count liquid Fluid oz I drank 3 a day in the beginning. I'm going on 3 yrs out. How do I manage to get enough protein daily!?

Babybell cheese is 5 pro. .5 cup cottage cheese is 10 pro. .5 of a large Wendy's chili is 11.5 pro. Greek yogurt used as sour cream in chili. Homemade meatballs! Sausage or bacon for breakfast. Eggs with havarti and hot sauce, if you want more protein scramble with Greek yogurt to make them fluffy. Shrimp! They go down easy anytime that I'm having an off day.

    Before W.L.S. and after W.L.S.

I would definitely try to stock up on a few essentials. Soup broth, yogurt, and premiere Protein drinks. I told myself that since I only live 2 blocks from the grocery store, I could walk there for my exercise to get what I needed, so I didn't stock up at all. After surgery, I was really tired and spent. I felt uncomfortable. I forgot to figure in the grocery bags I'd have to haul home. Thankfully my mom visited for 3 days to help out, and she picked up a few things for me. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using the BariatricPal App

    Problem with band tightness

My doc always warns me that when I have a stuck episode, take 2 days to let it heal with yogurt and cottage cheese... easier food. He swears that's when he sees band trouble: Trying to eat with an irritated band. I really try to listen to him.
  14. Cooked carrots, green beans, peas, cauliflower, broccoli , pudding , mashed potatoes ( be careful on amounts) oatmeal hummus refried beans eggs ( cooked) ground turkey/chicken ( breakup into very small pieces and sauced up with gravy, sals ect ) yogurts cottage cheese
  15. My dr does full liquids from the moment you are home, so I have creamed soups to strain, sf pudding and pinkos triple zero yogurt stocked up for at least the first week. My surgery is tomorrow. Dec 5
  16. So I'm still on the liquid phase of my diet. But I'm only 12 days post op. I decided based on recipes I found online and on here to blend my own smoothies. I brought all frozen fruit, a huge tub or plain greek yogurt, EAS vanilla protien powder 30 gram , PBFIT powder, frozen spinch. Then also a magic bullet. The only liquid i add is Water. No added auger of any kind is used I blended my first smoothie last night which I drank for dinner. Which took me almost 2 hours to drink down. The smoothie alone is about 50 grams of protien when made if not a lil more. It went great. Stomach felt good and tasted great for not adding no sugar like honey or using some type of juice to sweeten it up. I figueed only do this just once and a while is ok when drinking the ready made shakes get boring.Wanted to know has anyone else done that. What did u make as smoothie.? Only me

At 8 weeks out, a pause (I call them pauses as a stall is a completely different animal) is completely normal. Your body is doing things... just let it do it and keep following your surgeon's rules. What stage are you? Are you on solid foods yet? I don't cook so I'm an expert at finding bariatric friendly foods to eat. For example, if you're on soft foods, get some Soup from your grocery store, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese if you can handle it. Grab a six pack of eggs and fry yourself up some eggs and cheese. I find hardboiled eggs to be more dense than I expect them to be, but if you just eat the whites and eat slowly, they could work. Swing by taco bell and get some refried Beans and cheese. (I'm suggesting fast food because if you buy a can of refried beans, you'll never eat the entire thing and you'll have to save some of it and you can't, unless you load up a cooler with some ice-- that's an idea.) If you can eat soft meats, you can get tuna salad or chicken salad in a can at the grocery store, or the tuna in a pouch. Don't forget all the ready to drink Protein shakes-- I liked Atkins shakes because they weren't too thick. Or again, roll by a mexican restaurant, get a soft taco or burrito and eat the insides. I did that for FOREVER. Or if you can get some ground beef, you can have a cheese burger in a bowl-- ground beef cheese, ketchup, maybe crumble some bacon (you can get cooked bacon at the grocery), stir it up. Wendy's has a great chili, but even their small was too much food for me at 8 weeks out. They will also serve any burger or sandwich without a bun. Might be a little tough for an 8 week old stomach-- it depends on how far out you are. I think the best way to manage this is to stick to the dollar menu... portions will be smaller (so less waste) and think about how to DE-carb whatever you're about to eat. Soups are also a great idea... it won't take much to fill you up. I also think ice in a cooler is a good idea to keep a few things in the house like shakes cold.

    Suggestions - prefer vegetarian

Cottage cheese, Peanut Butter yogurt, milk, many veggies and many nuts are high in Protein. Yeah carbs are not our bariatric friend. Stay far away from them. In moderation is fine but if your already falling back to them it's best to clean them right out of the house. Make a menu for the week and go grocery shopping after a meal and stick to the list. This really helped me. Not sure what support you have but talk to your dietitian about portions and meal ideas. Also could join if you haven't yet the meals forum on here. Great ideas. Or even Google bariatric meals. There are thousands of great ones. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using the BariatricPal App

I'm on my 5th day, I brought a rotisserie chicken and took the meat from the bone and boiled it. This was my broth for a few days. Made a smoothie from Greek yogurt and a banana. Good luck Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  21. Dont stock up too much especially on dated foods, ie yogurt. I stocked up and threw much of it away. Also once I started back on foods, I didnt want to drink broth mix I bought through bariatric site. I wasted alot of money. Plus you won't be as hungry as you once were and can't eat much at all. Good luck and God bless! Sent from my SM-J700T1 using the BariatricPal App

    Baby Spoons

  23. I wouldn't stock up too much. Your taste buds might change. I now hate pineapple and broth. I can barely tolerate SF applesauce and yogurt.
  24. I'm starting to think about what to buy for the post-op liquid diet. I'm trying to plan for at least the first week when I might not want to goto the store. Curious what others are buying ahead of time. My plans are: chicken broth Protein powder sf Jello sf popsicles crystal light yogurt preimer Protein shakes Anything else? Any blender recipes to try?

    Baby Spoons

I am so glad I bought a package of baby spoons from the dollar store right before I started my second week. Since I'm allowed to have up to 2 tablespoons of applesauce, light yogurt, mashed potatoes or oatmeal for each meal 3 times a day. The baby spoons not only make it easier to eat over 20 minutes, the smaller spoons I think will trick my brain into not wanting bigger portions like before surgery.
