    August surgery buddies!

Hi all fellow bariatric buddies. Sorry to hear about everyone’s hair loss. I started Collagen powder 2 days after surgery as it was suggest by the nurse as one of many supplements I have to take. I wouldn’t know if I loose hair as I never brush it. Short curly shoulder length hair. But I do use a lot of hair products in hair. I am still on soft/liquid foods. And can’t eat eggs on their own. Nor can I still stomach coffee(haven’t had it in 12yrs). Is there any foods you loved and can’t eat now? I have become sensitive to eczema. I have been able to stop my 5yr medication for reflux. I tried a sip of hubbies coke no sugar 4 days ago. That was a mistake🤮 Im still loosing 1kg (2.2 pounds) a week. And can now get 3 of 4 wedding rings on.

    Food Before and After Photos

Back through the history of this thread I started out posting my meal when I was in the weight loss phase, like a quarter sandwich, lol. Then I posted my dining out meals, from work travel. Then I posted the low carb meal preps I was doing primarily for my bf (cause my diet is anything but low carb!). Then early pandemic I was doing large scale meal prep for three different (but small) households, because of grocery scarcity, and the sudden end to my work travel gave me free time. But I burned out on cooking a while ago. Now I just post the occasional home cooked meal, or something special or fancy. Like @GreenTealael I don't post because how many times a week do people want to see a paper bowls with tater tots and season salt, or an 80% eaten McChicken 😂? This is what currently makes up a large % of my weekly diet (when I'm not in France 🥐🥖🍷) 😂

New Surgeon Consult - SADI DS?

I had the Loop DS/Sadi-S surgery. I actually take less vitamins then the average person for my surgery... I take 1 multivitamin with iron and 1 (one a day) multivitamin without iron, two calcium citrate, and every other day 1 vitamin A. If you do for some reason decide to have the Loop DS/Sadi-S I recommend a probiotic every day (it helps your stomach so much and I swear by them). Either surgery has malabsorption and what they don't tell you is that ANY surgery with malabsorption (RNY, DS, Loop DS) has a 3% chance of giving you either a wheat allergy or full on Celiac Disease. I have terrible luck and ended up with the wheat allergy, but honestly? It's been a blessing in disguise as I quite literally can't eat fast food and any restaurants I go to are very, very, VERY limited because they have to full on either be a gluten free restaurant, Celiac friendly, or a restaurant that deals very carefully with food allergies. I have two conditions that cause acid reflux issues (not GERD. One is an autoimmune disorder and the other is an immunological condition) and my acid issues were actually improved for a good two years before going basically back to normal (no better or worse). I recommend going with your gut. If you've decided on RNY then go for it. It's YOUR body and YOUR choice in the end. You are the one that has to live your life, not your doctor so go with whatever choice makes you happiest.
  5. I'm eating at night again. My fat brain is winning. I feel so disgusted with myself at this moment and feel I'm slipping. I am 8 weeks post op and should be transitioning to more solid foods but I'm mostly still pureeing . This way I can have more volume of foods. I need to contact my surgery team and see if they can help. I just feel defeated at this moment.
  6. Hi sorry, I did not see your message. I had no too much pain while returning to my home, I went to a wedding last week and they noticed the change on my body. Hope everything goes well for you too.

    Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

yeah I would move up the appointment with the dietician! I talked to my Kaiser support group leader during my stall & refreshing my memory about what & what not to do helped. She mentioned switching your protein sometimes helps & that's what did it for me!
  8. THANKS! It's such a relief. even after reading a million stories about how normal stalls are it still hurts my feelings. I hope yours starts to move again! & CHICKEN. I eat 3 small meals a day & every one has chicken. I switch up the sauce & seasoning & suddenly feel like I'm having a different meal. I'm at the point where I feel I'll never get tired of it haha
  9. All of you make me have hope! So I’ve tried powdered shakes and can’t seem to get it right. I am currently not working, because I’m only 2 1/2 weeks post-op, but after I heal I will be going to work and as a school bus driver I don’t always have a fridge so the powders would be nice to keep on hand for making shakes on the go. Currently using the premier pre-made shakes and they have to be ice cold. I currently have organic protein with super food (from Costco) and nectar and both are flavorless. I was thinking I would use these in in juice, but I can not seem to get it right. I seem to keep getting chunks, or super gritty, or the foam will never go away. any and all ideas are wanted and needed thanks in advance, chris
  10. Hey guys, so last week doing the dishes I had pain going up both my arms and across my shoulder in the back and then I felt what I thought was like shortness of breathe, maybe a little heart flutter. It scared me so I went and sat down and it stopped. Now it happens sometimes when I am active. Long story short, I called my surgeon he said it was weird and to get it checked at ER. Six hours later, an EKG, CT scan and bloodwork showed no clot and nothing really abnormal. I went to the grocery store tonight and just walking around I started to feel the weirdness again. Has anyone experienced this? I just want to know what it is and when it will stop hahaha. It's unnerving.

Yes, I noticed that too. I of course have to do the two week liquid pre op! LOL. I started today, so far so good. I am not sure I am thinking it might be up to the surgeon how long they want a patient to be on the liquids.

    January 2023

Jan 10th here. It just got very real. My doctor is allowing a high protein diet 2 weeks before surgery and the liquid diet only 2 days before. Is this normal? I know everyone is a little different.

you may just be in a really long stall. Are you tracking your food intake? Are you following your plan to a "T"? If so, i'm guessing a stall for sure. If not, start tracking again. And like kcuster said, it might be helpful to contact your team if you're worried.
  15. I had the same thing but it was an reaction from the blood thinner shots. They where very ichy but tried very hard to not scratch it. I used benadryl and it finally went away after a week ..but still can see the marks where the rash was. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Regretting the surgery

Just wanted to update: My intestines were just taking their time to wake up after anesthesia. I could not get rid of the gas so there was a crazy amount of pressure on my stomach and insides. Friday night, things finally started moving (5 days after surgery). I felt like a new woman on Saturday. Limited nausea and pain. Today, I'm still doing well except for spasms after drinking fluids (still on all fluids). Doc said they normally go away after a week or so but of course my body is holding on. I'm also trying to navigate diarrhea and constipation. My doc, office staff, hospital staff, church, family, and husband (And of course you all) have been amazing supports. I pray I continue to improve and can say I no longer regret the surgery (eventhough I'm still super early into the post op process). Thank you all for your kind words and letting me know I'm not alone. You've all truly been a blessing. [emoji173] Sent from my SM-S115DL using BariatricPal mobile app

    blood?

I'm 12 days post OP and have the same thing, I called my Nurse and they said It's normal for the first few weeks and if I don't have pain or a fever it's probably nothing serious but they'll check in more when i have my 2 week check up... which is in 3 days. So i've done some reading and this is what I've read. It could be: Normal Change in Taste Following Surgery: Change in the taste, smell, or tolerance of food following bariatric surgery is a common phenomenon. In fact, one study has found that as many as 97% of patients experience at least one such change following these surgeries. Ketosis: Some describe keto breath as having a metallic taste in their mouth and a smell that's sweet, fruity or similar to nail polish remover. This is caused by the chemicals your body creates during ketosis, which are released from the body by exhaling. (Unlikely) Dysgeusia or Parageusia is associated with this condition where the taste buds are distorted. It is a serious condition because an aversion to many foods can lead to malnutrition after gastric bypass or sleeve surgery. The only way to really know is to check in with your provider. All the best.
  18. I Am Enough!

    August surgery buddies!

Hey August Buddies! I finally broke through my last stall - I hovered at 203 forever... but it finally broke through with more exercise. I have been doing a regular regimen for my hair and **knock-on-wood** it's working. So I wanted to share with you what I'm doing. 1. Daily take high-quality grass-fed collagen in my water. This is what I currently use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074T8HKGF It has no flavor and dissolves great! 2. Collagen works best with a REAL FOOD vitamin C. It helps the body absorb and utilize collagen better. Not just a regular Vitamin C Ascorbic acid. Here is the link to what I use, and I swear by it. Here is the link: https://shop.drberg.com/vitamin-c-complex 3. I take 2 supplements a day of Dr. Bergs hair supplements. Here is the link: https://shop.drberg.com/hair-formula-capsules 4. Three times a week I massage my head to bring blood flow to the roots of my hair. Even pull and tug on my hair to give it circulation. 5. I use Morrocan oil on my hair after a shower. I try to only wash my hair twice a week to help keep its moisture. So overall, I am trying to hydrate from the inside and from the outside, and so far it's working!! I've seen a little increase in hair loss, but nothing compared to when I was on Keto full-time. I'm also doing intermittent fasting for 16:8. I eat for 8 hours a day and then I'm done for 16. It really helped me get over my stall too. Hope this helps!

    August surgery buddies!

I stalled out this past week too. I started researching and read stalls are common around the 3 month mark. I feel your pain. Especially when you feel like you are doing everything you are supposed to be doing. It’s so frustrating!

    Eating carbs

I had no problem with carbs at 3 months out but I did with certain meats from time to time. It seems like an individual thing reading all these responses. At 6 months, I was able to tolerate everything as if I never had WLS but just tiny portions of it
  21. I've been stuck at the same weight for 4 weeks now. I'm starting to panic. I'm nowhere near my goal weight. I've been trying to drink all of my water and get my protein in. I've got extra stress for work and school right now. I know that's not helping. Anyone have some advice or similar struggles?

Looking for a November surgery pal

That’s helpful to know! I’m still on liquids two weeks but “full” ones starting Wednesday and can not wait. Even if it’s just thicker protein shakes 😆 I’m also not really hungry but man I want real food so bad.

I’m scheduled for Dec 5, just started my liquid meal replacement for next 3 weeks. What’s best to deal with hunger pains while on liquid only?

    Eating carbs

I am also allowed carbs, but most don't agree with me. I can eat like 3-4 tortilla chips, or half a small/4" tortilla wrap. But that is it, and I don't really crave it enough to make it worth it. I do feel extra full after, even though I do not over eat.

    September surgery buddies!!

Congrats!!! I think I'm still in my stall. I waited a week to weight myself and I'm down a little bit from my lowest but its so close I'm going to wait and see. Stalls are the worst so I'm so happy for you! I've also found my newest favorite drink. 2 things I hadn't tried, heating my protein shakes and fairlife vanilla so I tried it with a sf chai mix and it is the best! I found on amazon David Rio Sugar Free Orca Spice Chai Tea Mix and it is amazing. I just looked right now and it seems almost sold out which worries me but I still have most of my container left atm. What is everyone's favorite food or drink atm? Do your tastes change often? Mine seems to change weekly lol. I still have trouble with chicken too but so far everything else is ok.
