    Stuck at 5 months out?

I was sleeved Nov 12th LY, its been 8 months...wow. started at 265 and am at 186+/-...so I am around an 80 lb loss. 10 lbs a month I guess its ok. I was very stuck around that 205 mark/ time myself. I think what helped is I started more intense exercise. Like running the stairs instad of just a walk. Only once a wk though-I am not a religous exerciser at all. I walk daily but nothing big. Water is a big deal I found when I drink my water I do a lot better. Tracking helps-go back and track food and cals daily for a week, then go over your diet with the nutritionist-pay for an extra visit if needed. I would keep on the shake thing but try it every other day-liquid one day, food the next, not 3 days in a row. I am no angel and I feel that sometimes I should have lost more (so far) than I have, but I am happy with the loss and am trying not to be too hard on myself because think about how far you have come. You will drop again. Be patient and if you push your body too hard I don't think it responds to that either. We are all going to experience some stalling. Look at how far you have come. This might sound weird, but put on a great outfit you couldn't dare wear before and hold your head high. Take a selfie in the outfit, like instead of being down on it, relish what you have now. It's awesome you have had great loss in 5 months. Awesome. You will lose more, keep going.
  2. My sister had a Bypass, I got a band many years later. She had severe complications which resulted in about 5 surgeries to try to fix and almost died because of the complications. She is thankful she did have the surgery, however they do repipe your insides which if you eat things with too much sugar or something that doesn't agree with you then it can cause "Dumping"syndrome which is a massive case of diarrhea and it just comes out, or at least it did in her case. She also is not supposed to eat various foods, corn, sodas, and some other things too. It alters the absorption of both foods and medications, now when she has to be medicated it takes a Horse's dose for her to feel anything. Having the band, alot of people can eat whatever they want but you are restricted on the amounts. There are some that cannot eat certain foods, but for every one person who cannot eat something the other 10 seem to be able to. It also does not alter the absorption of medication or nutrients in your food. There is no repiping of your insides, it is just restricted which can be reversed if needed. She also after a huge depression issues overdosed on a medication intentionally. With the bypass they are unable to pump your stomach in this situation. The Gin she washed down the pills with is what saved her life because that somehow kicked her liver into overdrive to help her body burn through the medication. However she was OUT for several days. I will add that this was after the death of our Dad, her fiance cheating on her and dumping her in the hospital on two occasions (what a winner huh) and being told she would never be able to have children because she couldn't have babies. I will also note that she has son that will turn 5 in October!! With a band they can remove the Fluid in order to get to the stomach in case they need to pump the stomach.. however.. hopefully NObody needs this info.
  3. I was sleeved 9/19 - and I have only lost about 25lbs. 5lbs in the month after I was sleeved. I feel like this is failing too. I literally had my guts rearranged to not have success. Does this really not work for some people? Could I be that small percentage that I destined to remain fat?????
  4. Has anyone else had oily really loose stool? I'm concerned because my stool has been like this for a few days. I'm on a normal diet and about 10 weeks out of surgery.

Post-Op 2 weeks and having complications

Thank you for the responses. I thought I'd stop in and give you an update. Her doctor did drain the area (he got 9 or tem huge syringes full of yellow fluid out). There was another area that was not liquified, he is planning on trying again next week. She did seem to brighten up after and was moving around a lot better after that. Mom slept in her bed for the first time a few days later, and the pressure of laying on her side made the area start leaking- ALL OVER THE PLACE! It was really disgusting and she, we both, freaked out. We called the doctor and went back in to see him the next day. He's concerned. He said if it doesn't stop leaking and look much better next week, he'll need to remove the port. He'd leave the band and tubing in- remove the port for a few months then reinsert it. The thought of more surgery scares me, but mom says shes in... She's invested this much this far... I like mom's surgeon very much. He's thoughtful and checks in on her often by phone. He's was the only surgeon willing to take on mom. She 60 years old and a revision from the intestinal bypass days of the 70's. We knew she was high risk, and she is having the complications that come along with that. I'm not however impressed with the facility he practices at. She had surgery the day of that awful storm here in St. Louis, the hospital's electricity went out for 10 hours AND the generator failed for about 15 minutes. Rain poured in around the window in her room, we had to move in the dark. It was bedlam, and our nurse did not handle it well. Very stressful. The thought of another stay there is an unpleasant one. I hesitate to name mom's surgeon, mom and I both feel he's very competent. I would hate for anyone to associate her condition with his skills in the OR or otherwise. This forum, I'm sure, is frequented by his patients and colleagues. Thanks again for your replies. Rebekah

OMG!!! I can't belive this is happening!

Got my tentitive surgery date of 6/15/10!! I still can't believe it and feel crazy happy. It almost feels too good to be true. Had a mini celebration tonight, but right back on track 2morrow. Would like to be down some more and as fit as possible before V-Day!! Anyone have some pre-surgery advice?

    Fluoroscopy fills.

The doctor can see the level of restriction, but that does not necessarily translate into a lasting level of restriction that you'll perceive as your sweet spot. Some people really do feel quite a bit from their first fill. A few find that it does the trick. But most seem to feel very little difference from the first fill. There is a difference--but our pouches still empty too fast for us to really notice a difference in our hunger levels. This usually tapers down over a few fills. Fluoro or not. My doctor does use fluoro for all fills. I had my third about 10 days ago--and do feel restriction now. It's starting to dissipate a bit, though, so I suspect Fill #4 will be necessary. It's worth the wait  Hang in there!
  8. Hi all, its been 16 days since surgery and I have lost 10 pounds. I'm trying really hard to not let the scale rule my life, but i'm working on self esteem issues and I still have a love-hate relationship with the scale. I guess I'm looking for reassurance from other sleevers that 10 pounds is good. I only had a 2 day pre-op liquid diet so I didnt have any weightloss right before surg. I have been on mushies for a week now and i'm doing good with protein and water. I'm working on the exercise part, I have just been so tired lately. Thanks for any input. 9. Nope i lost about 60+ without the band, and i was banded on 4/23/09 and have lost about 10 since the band and now i am stuck , the scale is not moving.
  10. I was banded in August 09 and have so far lost about 48 pounds.... which I'm very pleased with But I haven't really lost any weight since the beginning of the year and I'm really getting worried because its April now. I eat loads less than I did pre-band. I try to make the best decisions when I eat and keeping track of what I eat 90% of the time. I know The scale isn't the best source for motivation, but I really should see it trending down over time, right? This week alone has showed a 10 pound weight gain. How is that even possible? I KNOW I didn't eat enough for that! -- And I know my scale isn't broken because my Wii fit says I weigh the same number (I checked ) I'm going to try and cut out some higher sodium foods this next week and see if that was the culprit, but I'm at a loss as of what I should be doing different. Anyone else seem to hit a plateau that they can't seem to get past this early on in the game? And what did you do to get past it? FYI - I'm eating mostly solid foods so I'm not to tight and trying to 'work around' the band when I eat. I have little syptoms as far as getting stuck or throwing up. My 'test' meals are at about 3-4 ounces of solid food at a time.
  11. I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no, but thought I'd ask anyway. Due to delays by the psych office in faxing over my report, and then the surgeon's office in submitting to insurance, my surgery has been delayed until mid-June at least. I am supposed to go visit my sister at the end of June, and due to a job change and other factors, there is no other time for that visit this summer. Long story but I really do have to go visit her. We will be driving and it's about 12 hours in the car. If I stop every hour to walk around is this even do-able at all? Always assuming there are no surgical complications of course. Otherwise, I have to delay surgery until September. I know that's the most responsible thing to do, but I was so counting on getting started losing weight this summer, not spending another summer miserably hot and sweaty due to chafing, and not having the energy to do much outside. I cannot afford to fly (my kids are going too). I may have to do all the driving, or my oldest son might come along and split it with me, but either way I would stop hourly to prevent any clots.

    5 Days Post Op

I lost 10 pounds in the first week, then it stopped. It takes most people 2 - 4 fills to notice the help of the band. Before that it is just hard dieting. It is called banster hell by many and I would agree. I am 8 weeks post opt and now at 5.6 cc and finally feel like I have a band. Before I could eat anything and felt hungry alot. I followed the rules best I could and ate small meals slowly. But it was hard until the band started working for me. Once your swelling goes down, dont be suprised to feel like you have not even had surgery. It is disappointing and frustrating. But once though banster hell, the weight will starting falling off. If I could give you any advice, I would tell you to follwo the rules best you can and put the scale away for at least one month. You will drive yourself crazy the first few weeks. At least I did. I finally put it up and decided to only weigh at Dr appts until I got to green zone. Best of luck.

    My story

Hi Annisa, I can relate to much of your story, I am a retired nurse with the same see-saw version of my weight, I am 69 and finally have made the decision to have the sleeve done. Today I am having my stress test to be cleared for surgery which is scheduled for 10/8. Good luck on your journey, I can only say that this chat group has helped my understanding both before and after the surgery. Suzanne
  16. :help: Hello everyone;I would appreciate some input from experienced Lap-Banders as I am getting really discouraged. I was banded 4/17/06-had my 1st fill on May 31st. I think it was too aggressive a fill or else something got stuck because I was vomiting so9lids and only keeping liquids down. So the Doctor did an "unfill" backk to 2cc(10 cc Band)--I was hungry and had minimal restriction. Had a 2nd fill on July 5th under fluoroscopy with barium and all to 5cc.That was 6 days ago and again have been vomiting solids.Went to the Doc this AM and he removed 1cc-now have 4 cc in there. They said that should be just right. I have tried mushies and have been vomiting again. I like some restriction as the weight loss is good--total of 28 pounds so far--- but I know the goal is to be able to eat small amounts of solid foods and chew well and eat slowly and lose weight. Am I doing something wrong or is My Doc too aggressive with fills. My band area is sore from vomiting as is my throat. I am very discouraged. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.Judy
  17. I've got a couple for this week. Yesterday I hit double figures, I now weigh under 100kg and only have about 8kg to go before I'm merely overweight instead of obese. Today I called into the gym very quickly, as I have to go out, so I just wanted to clock up 40 minutes on the treadmill. I picked a hill program, set level 10, speed 6.5 kms per hour. I could not get my heart rate over 119 for love nor money, I physically cannot walk any faster than that or I'd have to jog and the incline at times was at 8! So I've gotten LOADS fitter. And my ankle didnt even give me a twinge. I am so freaking happy today.

    DH, I love you, but.....

Telling me as I am preparing to go to bed Friday night that your ex, one of her daughters from a previous marriage, plus her (XSD) husband, and their 2 children are going to stop by 'sometime Saturday', is not the way to ensure I have a good night's sleep! Saturday's are grocery shopping, laundry, gardening day, not spit polish, whip together an impressive meal and dress in something other than sweats day! It is now 6pm, they stopped by for about 10 minutes, went for a tour of the town, just called to say they would be eating out (after I have the meal prepared including 2 desserts). I encouraged them to return here for coffee (if only to get the Desserts out of the house - DH has a sweet tooth), and they say, well we really don't drink coffee. But, we will see how the highway is and how we feel after dinner. DH says to me, "See, all the fuss for nothing". If it wasn't that I have a great sense of humor, I'd deck him!

    Hungry!!!!!

I am soooo glad im not the special case cuz I am super hungry as well. I was banded on 8/19/2011 and on day four I was getting hungry. I followed post op Liquids till an hour ago! My stomach was growling and making all kinds of noises, felt very weak and tired too. Today was also my first day back to work. I just had to eat! I stuck to soft but just could not do the liquid for dinner. Such torture. I'm ready to be a few months ahead in the process so I can feel normal again!
  20. I am 10 days sleeved and am now allowed to eat what you guys call mushies (blended food) fromage frais, cream soups etc. what's the difference between this and the next stage?
  21. My surgery was 2/13, and today I have my first appointment with the Dietician and Nurse Practionier. I have already seen the surgeon 10 days after surgery, but that was nothing exciting. I am supposed to get my first fill today, but I have had so many breathing issues that started since the day after surgery. Removing the band is still on the table, so I am thinking they probably won't fill me. I am kinda bummed about that, since the point of having the surgery was to get fills and help me loose weight. However, I can't complain because since surgery I have lost 29lbs in 6 weeks, all while on Prendisone and other multiple steriods! Has anyone not been filled the first time?
  22. Hi all, I just got a 7 cc fill in a 10 band and was happy that I can finally feel it...but, it is so tight...chicken got stuck last night and threw up. I was literally up all night. I called dr. And he saw me today I was expecting an unfit but don't want to start gaining, I am able to get fluids Down ate crackers, broth, and bowl of ice cream today. So when I get to office he said he doesn't think I need an unfit I was feeling better when I was there...now I am home and drank a Protein Shake for dinner 2 pieces of cheese and now feel very tight and am so wishing I would have let him take some Fluid out...I have to wait until tues now....ughhhh Any ideas of what to do until then? If this is a good fill why am I still hungry yet so tight I am about ready to go to er do those drs know how to take fluid out Please please respond...thanks and best of luck to all
  23. I love your list! You see I went on a trip back in August with my kids and hubby and was unable to do so much. I tried but I held them back and they would not go withou me. I think I cried every night. at the time we knew I was about a month out from surgery and my granddaughter kept saying how this would be the last time i would not be able to walk very far or would not be able to go zip lining. Well, two weeks ago I went to Las Vegas with my husband. First, I had to go buy clothes that were 4 sizes smaller! Then when I got on the plane and into my seat, my seatbelt not only fit, I probably had an extra 6 inches! I walked all over Las Vegas and was not in pain, in fact my hubby and son got pooped out before I did! And I did not have to use a necklace extender. In February, I am taking my other son and Granddaughter to Hawaii, we have not been there since 1999. I have excursions planned on every island and I cannot wait to mark things off my list! You are going to have a blast when it happens for you. I am less than halfway to my goal and only 10 weeks post op and I feel so blessed to be where I am already!

    I got a date!!!

Finally got my date for surgery. April 12th. So excited. I started the whole process last May. The last few weeks have been the hardest. I thought waiting for the final approval was going to drive me insane. I was told it would take 5 days, but it took 10 (business days) so I actually waited 2 weeks. Anyways....32 days to go. Start my 2 week diet on the 28th. My emotions are going nuts right now, and I am sure it will only get worse as I get closer to my date....Right now it is complete joy and excitement, earlier I was full of butterflies. We will see what tomorrow brings. Looking forward to beginning my new life!!!!!

    Rationally Irrational! Stall continues…

OMG!! I WAS STALLED FROM DAY 8 POST OP UNTIL 19 DAYS POST OP. I THOUGHT I WOULD BE THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD THAT THE SLEEVE DID NOT WORK FOR. I THOUGHT "HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I AM NOT EATING BIG MACS, OR PIZZA. I AM ONLY EATING 1/3 CUP OF FOOD AT ONCE AND NO WEIGHT IS COMING OFF!!" I SAID SOME REALLY BAD WORDS TO MY SCALE. I WAS MORTIFIED. I AM NOW 22 DAYS POST OP AND IN THE LAST 3 DAYS HAVE LOST 2 LBS!! JUST KNOW THAT STALLS HAPPEN. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR US TO GAIN THIS WEIGHT. AS MY HUSBAND TOLD ME BEFORE SURGERY " IT IS NOT LIKE YOU ARE GOING INTO A TIME MACHINE AND GONNA COME OUT OF SURGERY LOOKING LIKE YOU DID WHEN YOU WERE 16" (I WAS 16 WHEN WE MET) HE WAS RIGHT AND I HAD TO COME BACK DOWN TO REALITY AND REALIZE THAT I HAVE TO WORK WITH THIS NEW TOOL. GOOD LUCK!! STAY FOCUSED! MELISSA
