I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

I had my surgery on the 26th sept 2019,and I know exactly how you are feeling.I am seeing great weight loss ,but I am missing eating big time!Eating and drinking played a really big part of my life and now that’s been taken away,I feel bitter about it,as my eyes are still greedy, but I know my stomach won’t take it.What I’m trying to say is,you are definately not alone,in the way you are feeling and hopefully our journey will get easier over time x

    1 week post op today!

I’ve lost 10 pre op, and 9 post . I’m weighing daily . The last time I lost 3 pounds was 11/3. I looked at the calendar and it’s only been 18 days. I know I’m being impatient. I’m also worried that I’m doing something wrong or not doing enough.

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

Wow, 8 months. I saw the doctor/clinic advertised online. I made a phone call, gave my credit card and scheduled the surgery for the following week. My weight was on the low side so It was suggested I gain 10 lbs prior to weigh in. I don’t think I understood the impacts of the surgery. I really didn’t understand the hiatel hernia repercussions. But that came up an hour before surgery. I am still recovering from dairy earlier in the week but I’m so happy with the weightloss.
  5. This has been an amazing journey so far. I am down 77lbs from my heaviest weight and 45lbs of those lbs since surgery 7/31. I've slipped up a few times and got back on track immediately. The first post OP holidays are going to be really hard, having to cook my family's favorite holiday foods and just being exposed to all those carbs and sugars. I typically keep leftovers after the holidays but planning on getting rid of everything except the proteins. Glad to hear everyone is doing great!! The Maintenance Thread

Yes I’m a VGS patient and the main reason I chose VGS over bypass was exactly bc of malabsorption. Had I been even 10 years older, I might have chosen bypass, but I’ve still got to work full time while maintaining super-high levels of energy and focus. This info stays here, but my career is extremely youth-oriented. It’s extremely difficult for those of us >50 to keep up. Lately at my age and stage I was STRUGGLING physically to hang in there. A chain retail pharmacists MUST be able to work 10-12 hour shifts with zero breaks, downtime or relief all the while being able to multi-task incredibly heavy burdens. One moment of distraction (which most commonly is a result of a full bladder, empty stomach, or physically worn out body) can be deadly and every single one of us is aware of this at all times. For me, side effects from malabsorption, whether it be dumping or fatigue from vitamin and nutrient deficiency wasn’t an option if I want to be as safe to the public as each and every person deserves. On the other hand, being chronically tired and physically wrung out due to carrying around 100+ pounds excess weight wasn’t helping so that had to change. I figure with just the weight I’ve lost so far, I’ve given myself another 10-12 years extended career time, which is amazing since I’m 51 and I’d love to keep working part-time after age 65. I’ve always been a slow metabolizer. Even when I was a thin college student, I’d gain weight easily if I didn’t keep track of calories and activity. Even though WLS gives us a metabolic reset, mine prior to being completely messed up wasn’t the best so I’m expecting that I’ll never be the girl who can maintain in the 1800-2000 range even with increased activity. Honestly I’m okay with that. If I have to maintain at 1200-1400 daily, then that’s what I’ll do. I have this tool. I plan on using it for the rest of my life. I will use my tool and I will use IF. I do battle intense constipation. Like Sillykitty, I’m a 1-2 times weekly “mover” and once it hits 4/5 days, I’m uncomfortable. It does take me at least 3 days though bc the discomfort starts. I use senna/mom about once weekly, and that’s on top of my daily miralax. I drink plenty of water, but I’ve always battled chronic constipation so it’s nothing new. Side note: weighed myself this morning (still slightly constipated,BTW) and I’m now exactly GW -5 pounds. I’m thinking I’m going to set a goal to lose 2.5 more pounds between now and thanksgiving so if I do have some holiday bounce I can stay right around 150.

    Liver cleanse weight loss

That is awesome, I think I am going to start mine today, surgery is not until Dec 10 but she gave me a list of things like chicken, fish, egg whites, etc. with a list of vegetables and the protein shakes. I tried the protein shake Unjury (Chocolate) it was really good. I am so ready to utilize the tool of RNY just to be on the losing bench! LOLOL Each visit I have maintained my weight of 266 well I gained 1.8 pounds and it was because I stopped using my food journal and I knew what I was eating was not right. I told myself I was having a food funeral but couldn't go all out because I felt guilty doing so and that 1.8# wt. gain showed!
  8. Had a training afternoon with Tom Stoltman today - Scotland’s strongest (and worlds 5th strongest) man 2019. Managed to finally get my 180kg deadlift, increased my axle overhead PB to 60kg and had a play with some atlas stones, great fun! IMG_6507.MOV IMG_6505.mp4

    November Surgery

@november11 Hi I'm new to the site and would love to be a part of the November calendar and become buddies with one another, as we start this journey. My surgery date is November 19.
  10. Couldn't agree more. I actually didn't feel super comfortable with my surgeon (mostly because I had no direct contact with him before the day of the surgery, and the surgeon actually switched a few days before). If you feel confident in the hands of your surgeon I think that's a good and even strong sign. There will be so many strange feelings and mysterious symptoms that come throughout the various stages of recovery, and you will want to have full confidence in your surgery experience when encountering them. And like @GreenTealael already said, surgery might give you a perspective that makes you not sweat the small stuff. I just went on my first vacation since surgery (10 months and 100 lbs ago) and what I noticed is that 1.) no one cared what I looked like or even really noticed me at all and 2.) everyone else is also a little loose/saggy/scarred themselves. Hope this helps your decision making.

    Four weeks post op RNY

I had RNY 10/11 surgery weight 211 and I'm 190 now. So about the same as you. I figure the slower it comes off the better chance of keeping off. I'm also hoping it will mean less saggy skin. Keep following the plan. You're doing great!

    Post-op weight loss expectations

Everyone loses at a different pace. On Average, I've lost 0.45# a day for the last 338 days. However there were times over the last 11 months where I didn't lose anything for 2-3 weeks, and then all of a sudden I would drop 10 pounds.
  15. I'm approaching three years out. I have light skin, you cannot see any of my scars (5). None! I don't recall how long it took for them to completely fade away but it wasn't that long, maybe 9-12 months. I have a friend who had surgery over 10 years ago, she is more of an olive complexion; you cannot see any of her scars either.
  16. Back history..... I joined the site back in 2008-2009 i think. Back when it was called Lapbandtalk. Of course, it was for people that had the lapband done. Which i did back in 2009. SW 232, weight the day my band was removed 143 March 2017 due to a slip. This is a revision for me. I know most people say.... well 30lbs is nothing, but when your 5'2" it is. I have told no one except my husband about the sleeve. I didn't want to hear all the crap from all the people. I did what i thought was best. and because i had had a previous WLS and was cash pay.... sleeve it is. Band SW 232, LW 130... removal weight 143 (i stayed here for years) 2009-2017 Sleeved SW 173.5, CW 144.4 (as of today). Sx date Aug 28, 2019....... 10 weeks and two day PO. Chris

    OOTD

Thank you for the inspiration, Silly Kitty! It is truly one of my favorite outfits that make me feel 10 feet tall! ;] Absolutely, the fashionista twins! Have you been wearing your pants suit lately? Really versatile. Here's a close up of the seamstress magic. She took the fabric belt and added a more structured, better laying collar. Then, to my surprise - matched up the crane necks which I thought gave it a neat finished look. If you do wear it again... take another picture.

    ❤2 yrs (24/4mo) Post Op❤

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Current Weight 149 BMI 27 Happiness 8/10 😂 It's been a wild ride y'all. Still I firmly believe it was a fantastic choice. You don't know the end results when you begin a project (including tje hiccups) but thays perfectly fine. I don't mind a challenge. I have started in one place (VSG) changed to another (RNY) which i never imagined as a possibility or necessity for me because i never had reflux prior but i remain excited and hopeful about the future and about all of life. My weightloss is old news to most people. Its no longer jarring, shocking, surprising, exciting or headlining so I get to settle into real life and stay the course permanently. Am I afraid of regain? Yes and No. I am afraid of going above a certain weight 160-170s (Beyonce pre Coachella weight 😂) but everything under that is gravy 😍 I will not eat myself into a higher range. I also will not exercise my self artificially lower. I spoke with my nutritionist about a year ago about this ans its not for me. If it happens it will be medically induced, and Ya girl will be honestband open about everything going on. Do I have perfect food habits? Yes and No. My habits are perfect for me. Balanced. I can eat a salad and dessert. And feel no guilt. Dial up or down my intake according to need. (*I do no/never have food addiction* so in this way I believe I got off easy. If I had to contend with that I'm not sure where I would currently be, but hindsight wise choosen full DS, IMHO anything else is not a good choice) Do I love my post WLS body more? Yes and No. I loved my body from the start. Never hated it ever. But when I was heavier I began to become randomly sicker i a matter of weeks. I had to have surgery. No choice really. But now I feel the same way I NEED plastics. No way around it. I don't look horribly melty but I'm heading in that direction if i lose anymore weight. Have I gained any new insight now vs earlier... You've guessed it! Yes and No. I'm still the same old GTL albeit updated model 😎 but I have learned to meet people where they are and work with them there amd move on when the path diverges. No more people projects. I have a few real projects I'm still not done with so i need to focus on important stuff 😥 I'm a little more chill in certain ways But a little more aggressive in others (i STILL call people out on their BS) Pics soon I'm on the move...

    Sleeve failure??

The sleeve doesn’t fail. It’s mechanical. The surgery is a tool, nothing more. If you still eat like crap, the sleeve will fail. If you snack all day long on calorie dense food, the sleeve will fail. If you drink caloric drinks, the sleeve will fail. Edit: Just to clarify, if you're talking about "stretching" your sleeve will never stretch more than 10-15% from the size that it was surgically changed to. There is a lot of research to back this up. So if someone tells you they stretched their sleeve back out, and thats how they gained the weight, they're not being truthful with you in all likelihood.

    Scars

I didn't have noticeable scarring from my RNY, but I had A LOT of it after plastic surgery. I've read it can take up to two years for the scars to lighten and flatten as much as they're going to. The scars from my lower body lift (Aug 2018) are looking pretty good at this point, but it's been over a year. The ones from the rest (March 2019) are still pretty red. I'm sure they'll lighten, though. Yours probably will as well if it's only been three months.
  23. So I'm just ahead of you in the process - I'm 2 weeks 4 days today. And like you I had no issue getting water and yogurt down - even 4 days after surgery I was getting 64 oz in just water, not to mention my protein shakes. But then came week 2 when I started soft foods and I couldn't eat a whole scrambled egg. Then the next night I barely finished my 4 oz of chili (which was mostly 3 oz of chili liquid and 1 oz lean beef). I wondered the exact same stuff you were but trust me, the restriction will come. Just stick to your plan. And don't worry about the weight stall when you start soft foods. I just hit it and got over it (I think and hope). BTW we'll have to chat about Australia sometime soon. Wife and I are thinking of going there and NZ in May for our 10 year anniversary!

    Four weeks post op RNY

I think you are losing just fine. I had surgery on October 1 and weighed 285 that day. Today I'm 266.....for two weeks I stayed at 270...stall already......So..I've only lost 19 lbs. It's slow compared to others but still happy to be slowly losing. I do wonder why i did this to myself sometimes. I thought with RNY you were supposed to lose faster.
  25. 7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
