Congratulations everyone! I consider myself a veteran almost 6 months after my gastric bypass. Getting this surgery was the best decision of my life! Whatever you are going through, hating your liquid diet, pre op fear, post op pain, stool issues after surgery, fear of the surgery itself (I was so scared that I considered not doing it until the moment they rolled me in the operating room), please remember that is ALL worth it. My diabetes went away after 15 years of Metformin and Insulin, and for the first time in over 10 years ALL my annual health test came back perfect in the normal range. You will do great! -
How many calories are you eating wondering if I am eating too little.I am eating on average 400 a day. I am 3 months out from gastric bypass.

I had surgery on November second and I find my medication not working as well as it did before. Should I switch up my schedule and take 1/2 and then the other 1/2 later? -
I did gastric bypass + hiatal hernia repair June 6. I have had very few "issues"-- a couple of "one step over the line," one incident of the dreaded foamies, but generally, smooth sailing. I was at around 274 lbs and now am at around 206-7, depending on scale and time of day. That's crazy! I look at the stats for how much folks lose on average and this seems to be beyond the norm. I'm not complaining-- I not only walk, but got into a rigorous exercise regime with a trainer. His focus, for now, is balance, and "whole body"--I do some weights but the "balance" stuff has been a real blessing. I have checked the boxes with the M.D.s- my cardiologist has no problem with testosterone treatment as a means to build muscle mass. I need to get my surgeon to sign off on that, just to be sure. But man, this has been an amazing journey in a very short time. I'm way more mobile, fit into clothes I forgot I had (I used to buy really nice stuff, turned into a slob, and now I'm caring about my appearance again!). I'm closing in on 70 years-- and have not felt this vigorous in a long while. My taste buds have definitely changed. But it's worth the trade-off in health and fitness. And no more GERD!!!

Weight gain 3 weeks after surgery
heather26 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im getting a little discouraged,Ive read about the 3 week stall but im having the 3 week gain. I had gastric bypass 10/18 I also had my gallbladder removed. The first 2 weeks I lost 18 pounds.I was happy and then i go to my clinic for a class with people who had surgery the same day or around the same time.We were there to go over the next phase of eating .Everyone was discussing there weigh loss (30lbs and up) and what they've been eating.I thought to myself im eating far less than most of them why am I only down 18 and there 30+ At the time I was having 8oz of pureed soup,a protein shake or two,and 32oz of water.Im having trouble getting in 64oz of water.I thought maybe Im not eating enough so I started getting in 3 meals a day and now they are allowing us to eat solids at our own pace. I went to the store and bought full grain bread, avacodo, and sliced cheese. First thing in the morning Ive been having 1/2 of one slice of bread with avacodo or a slice of cheese. For lunch I'll have the other half of slice of bread with avacodo, and dinner I'll have pureed soup 4oz. I dont stop eating because Im full,I stop eating because Im afraid of eating to much and getting sick. I've been eating far less than I have ever eaten in my life and now everytime I step on the scale for the past couple of weeks i've been gaining weight everyday!! I dont get it.Why would I be gaining weight when Im eating healthy and Im not going over 4oz each time I eat. Ive gained 3 lbs so far. -

Hi all! I had gastric sleeve on November 6th and am just now getting the required liquids in. It has been kind of rough. I didn’t have a pre-op diet so I guess I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. Only thing that I wanted to eat was crushed ice but I’ve finally moved to protein water, protein shakes and broth. I’m so glad I found this app. I had to go get IV fluids and a steroid today and will repeat Monday at my week check in appointment. Anyway, just saying hi! Good luck to all! -
Help, ive been stuck for 3+ weeks
Arabesque replied to Holloway10315's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Firstly, stalls are a normal part of weight loss. Frustrating & stressful though they can be. While on average they last around 1-3 weeks they can last longer. It just depends upon how much time your body needs to reset itself (metabolic rate, digestive hormones, etc.) in response to your current needs at your lower weight. You just need to let your body taker the time it needs - don’t stress it more by making more changes. Not everyone reaches their goal weight. The average weight loss is about 65% for sleeve & bypass of the weight you’re to lose to put you in a healthier range. So, if my maths is correct, you’ve exceeded that average so far - yay! Doesn’t matter what weight your surgeon wants you at, your body will greatly influence your final weight - your new set point. There are also lifestyle & personal preference choices to consider too - what weight are you happiest at & allows you to enjoy your life as you want without you having to restrict your choices to maintain your weight. Our rate of loss slows as we get closer to our final weight. Sometimes it’s so slow it seems like we’re not really losing at all. And remember it doesn’t matter how long it takes to reach your stabilised weight - you’ll get there in the time that’s best for you. Don’t give up yet. Stick to your plan. Stay off the scales for a week or two. You may be surprised when you eventually weigh yourself again. -
I had the gastric bypass May 11,2023. I was doing good with dropping the weight. But once I got to 160 I’ve stalled out. Idk what to do. Can some one please give me advice. It’s getting really discouraging and depressing. My dr wants me at 135. I’m so close.

Do you mean you had sleeve to bypass revision surgery OP? Was it more for reflux than weight loss? Could you share some more info that would help others on their journey? Even if not - well done you on your loss and getting back on track. -
I didn’t realize there were 2 different November surgery buddy threads. Hello everyone I’ll be having the sleeve done on the 16th 🎉

I had mine on the 1st. Stayed one night and have been home since the night of the 2nd. Today is day 9 and I’m walking 1 mile 3 times a day and I’m feeling better each day. I also started puréed foods yesterday. Thankfully so far so good. Best of luck to the rest of my November friends 💜 -

I had my Bypass surgery on November 2nd, one week ago today. I’ve struggled some, been emotional, but mainly can’t stand protein drinks anymore. It’s all I can consume that is liquid/pureed. I was always a very picky eater, mostly because of the texture of food, so liquid/pureed foods are not going well for me. I have 7 more days of this and need some suggestions on what others are consuming post-surgery. Thanks! -
Congratulations on reaching your goal weight. Yay! I’m going to push a different view. Do you need all of those vitamins (& yes we have different needs)? Do your blood tests show you are lacking in anything? Or do they say you have more than enough of any you are taking? Find out if you need any specific ones & then take those. Remember excessive amounts of some vitamins can have side effects & other we simply pee out what we don’t need. Yes, some do have issues absorbing certain vitamins & minerals though it isn’t as common with a sleeve as with bypass. I only had to take a multivitamin & briefly vitamin D while I was losing. My surgeon said I could stop them at about 8 months by which time I had passed my goal. My blood work was great & still is 4.5yrs later though we did eventually pick up with my regular blood tests that my vitamin D levels drop in winter so I take a vitamin D mid autumn to mid spring. I do have a malabsorption issue with protein which began after my gall was removed. Malabsorption after gall removal can happen but with protein is unusual.

December Surgery Buddies!
rede4ahealthyme replied to AshleeHarvey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is lucky Wednesday, December 13th. I started on this journey on April 26th and have gone through the nutritionist visits, psychologist appointment, surgeon appointment and insurance processes. It has been a long journey. I have my PAT appointment next Wednesday, which is the last item before surgery day. I hope to find out more information on how long I am expected to stay in the hospital. When performing the gastric bypass, the surgeon will also be repairing a moderate hiatal hernia, so it might be a few days stay. I am having my surgery at IU Ball Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, not far from where I live. They are great and I have been so impressed with the entire process. Wishing all of my fellow December surgery buddies the best of luck and God's amazing blessings. -

I’ll hop on the bandwagon! I am having a revision from a sleeve to a bypass on 11/28 for severe GERD. I also have a stupid hernia now too which will get repaired while they are in there. I can’t wait for some relief of pain. Hoping anyone who had surgery today or so far this month, is doing well so far! Even with my issues, I don’t regret having my sleeve! It truly changed everything for me. -
Amazing work! My six month was November 1st. I'm down 91 lbs (171). I too changed my goal from 160 down to 150. I'm in a US size 10, which I'm to the point that I need to wash them so they'll fit. I'm expecting to be in an 8 in a few weeks. The loose skin is a minimum, which I'm so happy about. All in all everything this going beautifully and I couldn't be happier.

Am I supposed to swear off ibuprofen entirely?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Penguin733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have the bypass, then yes. If you have the sleeve, you can have it VERY rarely and sparingly after around 6 months or so, but never regularly. -

catwoman7 replied to Penguin733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any since my surgery eight years ago, but the PA at my clinic said it was OK to use it very occasionally - for rare situations like the one you have - bad headache that Tylenol isn't touching at all. But if you're a bypass patient, you can't use it regularly (our clinic told the sleeve people the same thing - although I know some surgeons are a little less rigid with sleeve patients) -
