I agree in principle, and will most likely bring it up, but I doubt it will do any good. It is fighting corporate inertia. I had an in depth conversation with my nutritionist about Genepro, which they recommend regularly, explaining that you can't put two pounds of poop in a one pound bag. She nodded her head and said , yeah yeah yeah, but I got the distinct impression she is still telling people how great it is. I don't know for sure, but I do know how corporate cultures stultify independent thinking or new ideas.

Try blending ice cubes and non-fat milk with your Protein Powder, that makes a nice change. I use a brand called Vitaleph, which is recommended by my surgeon. I am on my 3rd week of the shakes, and it is getting boring. I got some of the GENEPRO Protein powder and mix that with Water. I never really liked broth before, but I like it just fine now. I have a cup of that in the evening. Hang in there...it's only for now. Surgery Date December 6th in Tijuana. Just 2 more sleeps!

I had my gastric bypass about 4 months ago and have lost 75 pounds. It is important to drink your fluids and get your Protein to lose weight. I too had trouble getting my fluids and protein. I use to drink Water all day but after my surgery couldn't stand it. Try different things. I found out I had no problem drinking decaf coffee, no-sugar hot chocolate, tomato juice, Soup, etc. Just try different things and eventually your taste for plain ole water will come back. As for protein I couldn't stomach Protein drinks or bars. My doctor told me to try GENEPRO. I order in from Amazon. One tablespoon has 30 grams of protein and is unflavored. You can put it in your coffee, hot chocolate, or whatever. It doesn't change the consistency or flavor. It is great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Unflavored Protein question
ShelterDog64 replied to Christina.Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you put your Genepro in? I have some and tried it with watered down juice (I can't handle artificial sweeteners) and it made it change a weird color and get really THICK. And it was a large glass. Yuck. I use it in coffee every morning...I dissolve it in some half and half in the bottom of the cup, with a fork, then add the coffee. If you don't use cream, some lukewarm Water works too. I also put it in refried Beans, yogurt, soup...anything loose or moist works well. And I tried something new the other day that worked fine: I think you probably know about my incessant struggle with meat, so cheese is a huge source of protein for me. I like the La Tortilla Factory high pro/high fiber/low carb tortillas, so I took one of the small ones they made and made a quesadilla like I usually do, but I tossed the shredded cheese in some Protein Powder before I put it in the tortilla. I used the rest of the scoop in the sour cream + salsa mixture I make to dip it in. That little bit of extra effort got me 20+ grams protein in my quesadilla The secret to Genepro, in my experience, is to mix it into something cold or cool then add it to warm liquids. I add it directly to warm thicker foods like refried beans with no problems. I don't use it in cold liquids at all, since all I drink is water. I'd think you could mix it into lemonade, though, in a shaker bottle then let it sit for a few minutes for the foam to settle. -

Unflavored Protein question

I appreciate the details of your experience. I'm trying to compile everything I read from people and GENEPRO seems to be the "best" so far for lack of flavor. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App -

Portioning your food is a great thing to do, and I use a food scale daily, to weigh any meat or cheese that I eat. If you don't have one, a scale would be a great Christmas gift to yourself Have you started using an unflavored Protein powder yet? Have that to add to refried Beans and Soup has been such a help for me. Even as far along as I am, I still use a scoop of unflavored Protein in my coffee every morning...it's a good way to start the day, as I'm not much of a Breakfast eater. I use GENEPRO, lots of people like Quest and Syntrax. Any of them would be good for you to try. And I still have to work hard to get my Water in and I often fall short, just keep plugging away at that. Walking has been a game-changer for me...when I hit a little bit of time where I'm stuck at one weight, I can get the scale to move by increasing my exercise for just a few days. That's never really been the case before when I've dieted and lost weight, so it really motivates me to get out and move! -
Newbie question
ronniethegreat replied to Italian Girl1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should get GENEPRO, it's unflavored protein, 30g per 1 tbsp, mixes instantly, can buy on Amazon and you can just add to skim milk, tea, Water, or something else. (I do almond milk). I was doing protein shakes the first few weeks and couldn't take it anymore. Also, my pre-op diet was 7 days, they said it was because I was on the smaller side and didn't need me to really lose that much weight. Everyone is different Also, a lot of people do 6 months because it's required by their insurance, not because of the surgeon's decision Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App -
Interesting. Everyone at my program, with the possible exception of the surgeon himself, regularly gave us dire warnings about stretching our sleeve, complete with wide eyes and wagging fingers. "If you eat too much, you will stretch your sleeve out and increase its capacity and this operation will be for nothing", they said. Of course, these are the same people who pointed me in the direction of GENEPRO as a good source of Protein. I will have to do some more investigation, but thank you for the information.

Flavorless Protein powder
theantichick replied to Christina.Rose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like GENEPRO and also Syntrax unflavored. I don't find that they change the flavor for most things, but I'm very sensitive to texture and it does change that IMHO. -
Flavorless Protein powder

I highly recommend Genepro. It is 30 grams of protein for one scoop and it really is flavorless. I add it to my coffee and crystal light lemonade. -
Questions, 7 days until surgery
shedo82773 replied to ramsey2008's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have tried many many different Protein drinks...I can say that these are the ones that I like: ATKINS has great drinks and they taste great, MYOPLEX Rich dark chocolate Muscle Milk banana flavored and Gramcracker mixed BUT...By far the best one for me is GENEPROunflavored. I am a coffee drinker so I take my Keurig Cup of coffee and Sweet Cream and add 1 scoop of GENEPRO!!! No taste n change in my coffee. So it is a WIN WIN because I would drink my coffee anyway so it is a plus!! One thing I would say don't buy a whole lot of protein because most people's taste changes after their surgery and lets face it Protein stuff is NOT cheap. I would hate to really know how much money I spent on trying to find one that worked for me!! -
Those shakes are making me so sick too. I add GENEPRO unflavored Protein to yogurt, sf pudding , Soup and cottage. cheese. It's 30 grams of protein for 1 scoop Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein shakes... yuck.
theantichick replied to wren3273's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done it with coffee yet, but found that it worked OK for broths and Soups if I used my blender and mixed the unflavored Protein (GENEPRO and others both work this way for me) with a small amount of lukewarm Water or milk, then mixed that with the hot liquid. I also find that while the taste doesn't change, the texture definitely does. I cannot stand the protein powders mixed with pudding/yogurt/drinks but it works OK in soups/broths for me. -
