I surprise myself when I look in the mirror. When I try on a smaller size and it fits for the first time, I start to cry. I'm now in 10s comfortably, and can also get in some 8s, which I find shocking. I think I went from children's sizes to a 9/10 when I was in junior high. I don't ever remember being in an 8. I'm shrinking on the bottom more quickly than the top. When I was heavy, I would push the weight around off my face to remind myself what I really look like. Now that I've lost so much weight, I can see and feel my jawline easily, and I feel bony. My collarbone sticks out (to me) and I feel bony on my upper chest (but I'm a 38G!). I've never had a nice round bottom - it was always wide, but flat. I've lost so much on my tush that I'm bony there, too. TMI, but moving a certain way on the toilet actually hurts my tush! I think I need to buy a cushioned toilet seat! I don't remember that being a problem when I was a teenager, but my butt actually hurts!! I mention above that I would push my face around to remind myself what I look like. There are few people in my life that know me from before I got fat - my sister, Dad, and a few cousins. I've caught my sister looking at me, kind of shocked-like (but happy) - like she's rediscovering me. My dad has teared up looking at me, just thrilled that I had the surgery. It's probably the one thing in my adult life that he hasn't told me that I was wrong for doing. Everyone else is just amazed at how I look. Sometimes the comments don't bother me, especially from the people who know how important this was to me and that know that I had the surgery. But the people that don't know, and that I don't like, or that make a big deal about it (especially publicly), it really drives me nuts. All my rings are too big, as are some of my watches and bracelets. Even some of my shoes are too big, which really surprised me because I've been the same shoe size since I was 12 (and I wasn't fat when I was 12). I'm still curling into myself, as I mentioned in another post a couple of months ago. 15 more pounds to go to the top of the weight range for my height. Not sure if I want to stop there. I'm not unhappy where I'm at now, but I know I need some more off. I really can't get over how bony my ass has gotten. Ouch!

Common Channel Traditional DS
janedoe92 replied to amazon_gets_fit's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm a week out from surgery I got the modified DS (which I'm sure is the same thing you're talking about because my common channel is longer) but my recovery was really easy. I work and I am in graduate school. I took 2 weeks off of work but honestly could probably go back now, as for school I only needed a week off but could have gone back by my 4th day. My surgeon suggested the switch for me because my weight loss goal, the weight I'm at now (BMI 59.4) and he does test for your metabolism and mine is significantly low. He told me if I were to get the sleeve he doesn't think I would be happy with the results, so I went with the switch. So far my gas is pretty foul smelling (tmi but it's a little like sulfur) but I don't have too much gas, my bm's however aren't smelly at all (that could be due to me still being on liquids). However, I do get pretty fatigued but my body just went through something traumatic so that's expected, but so far I'm very happy with my DS:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have found that drinking Water with lime wedges is better tasting to me than water with lemon wedges! I think it also helps me have a bm (tmi)! Anyone else tried this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dumping syndrome
fatontheinside replied to Ellamax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the wonderful world of dumping! I get really bad flu like symptoms when I dump and it happens if I eat too much sugar, anything fried, or anything with too much fat. Sometimes it happens right away and some times its later. Hot, sweats, pain, light headed...all symptoms. I have a lot of great information on my blog about dumping (in nom nom nom). I know this will be TMI to some people but you can always tell a "dumping" poo from a regular poo because of the smell. ugh. This too shall pass! Linda -
Yes my Protein is low because my surgeons office said in recovery mode to just do what you can. I'm supposed to just either eat mushy foods or drink Protein shakes every 2 hours and that's where I've been ending up. It's SO frustrating that the scale hasn't moved in 6 days when I see people saying they lost 30 lbs the first few weeks. I know this is a long road and I need to relax and not compare it's just so so hard! I do feel like I drink more than I urinate out (TMI) but perhaps I am simply retaining Water?? I wasn't allowed to have juice and Miralax did not work for me either but Ducolax was a life saver. Make sure you are hitting your Water goals of at least 64 oz/day. Just know that we are eating so little early on that not going everyday may be your new normal. TMI warning- I'm 4 years out and I still do not BM everyday. I only consider myself "backed up" if I don't go for more than 72 hours. Pre-op I went daily.

I am just not having them! ???? I'm a month and a half out of surgery and I've probably had a handful of small bowel movements. I know im so backed up. Ugh anyone else going through this? I'm taking stool softeners and milk of magnesia. Any more suggestions?? Sorry I know this is TMI. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm trying yo get as much Fluid as possible but honestly, I've only been able to stay awake for an hour or so at a time. Today I've been so cold and noticed I have a slight fever. Went up to 100.8 earlier but down to 99.4 now. Also just the sharpest pain in my rib cage if I try to take a deep breath so I just have to take shallow breaths. That pain flares up with every sip I have too. Not sure it could be gas because I've had no problem passing gas. Oh and diarrhea all day-to-day just bile- probably 10 times. Sorry if that's tmi. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Okay fellow dsers, vets, or anyone passed me two months out. Why does my food taste so different its nasty at first it was the chicken now that i was able to move up to ground beef that taste like shyte literally. Yes dont judge people what i mean is (tmi time)when i use the restroom it is still baby type poop which has a baby type milk poop smell. I have that taste in my mouth all the time. Nothing tastes normal not coffee, not my Beans, not tea, or any of the allowed meats. All i taste is what i think the whey smells like after your body processes it. Somebody please tell me you know what im talking about its getting me down in the dumps. I know that food is fuel not for enjoyment now but come on. It has gotten to a point where i force my self to eat and try not to gag. Sorry for the rant but just needed to vent i guess anyone got some story on how to make this better. I know it will eventually go away its the when part that gots me down. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

I had a super wicked period during and after surgery for about 10 days. I think it was all the IV fluids because I was a waterfall (TMI). It was super hard because in recovery I had to change pads constantly, then after I left the hospital I recovered on my couch, I had to put a towel down to make sure I didn't stain it! I've never been able to keep up with my Water intake, so I think with all the influx of iv fluids my body just went to town and did a uterine self clean lol. I saw an old aquaintance one day. Stopped and chatted for a moment, and at some point during the conversation, I realized she had lost a bunch of weight. What came out of my mouth was "You look good", but what went through my mind was "I hope you aren't sick with cancer or something". I haven't seen her since, so don't know what caused the weight loss. People really do get concerned about your health! If surgery is tmi, then maybe start saying you've been on a diet. Put their minds at ease. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

Crying on the bathroom floor
Wonder WomanNJ replied to White Sale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a stall for over a week at about 2 week mark. The scale was not tipping one way or the other. It is super frustrating but this morning - bam - it tipped 3lbs down. I spoke to my nutritionist who reminded me that my body needed time to catch up to the weight I lost. In the meantime, I also got my period and sorry for the TMI but went #2. I'm not having a regular bowel movement and I feel that now that I am pureed food, I should be going more. I'm only going once a week. Do you find that your body is loosing inches and not weight? -
TMI FOR ALL YOU GUYS OUT THERE Hi ladies! Anyone had more than one period in 1 month, post-vsg??? I have had a Mirena IUD for 5 years now with very regular, predictable periods. I had my VSG on 12/13/16. Afterwards, I had my normal, usual 4 day period on 12/30/16, and now only 14 days later, here it is again. Full force. What gives?? This has never happened to me as long as I have had periods. TMI again, sorry... but if this was a little spotting or what-not, I wouldn't think anything of it. But, this is a total full blown period, which I find very strange, especially considering that I have an IUD. Can anyone weigh-in on this? Any knowledge, personal experiences or thoughts are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks ladies! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

January and February 2017 sleevers!
PrettynSpirit replied to BubblesOhSoSleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the kindness! I had the surgery Monday and survived it I am now a loser LOL!!! I was able to leave the next day, I was unable to conceptualize "just get your liquids in" versus Protein until I wasn't s fuzzy from those meds. I cannot get Premier Protein down right not and was freaking out about it too! As far as pain the area where the most work was done by my surgeon stings and the rest of my stomach feels like how it did when i was a little chubby gal running too much and too fast so as to catch up with everyone. (TMI) was so worried about the gas which I avoided with all the tips! But it is constipation that's trying to make me get all teary along with a visit from an unexpected aunt Flow it'll be okay tho but not without a fight! -
Wow, glad you're ok now. Did you get pancreatitis? I noticed something wasn't right with me when my stool turned clay-colored with a slightly yellow tint; and sometimes, even yellowish mucus (TMI). Then, I would feel bloated all the time, especially after eating. Then, I would have indigestion. Eventually, I started having a strong cramping sensation in my sides when I would sit down and bend over to pick something up (kinda like a Charlie horse). By then, I knew I had to get something checked out. So, I scheduled a HIDA scan. When they gave me the cholecystokinin injection, I felt horribly nauseous (which is one of the indicators of a failing gallbladder). It took a while for my gallbladder to empty the injection. My results were that my gallbladder was functioning at only 12% (anything lower than 35% motility is diagnosed as gallbladder dysfunction). I had my gallbladder removed, and the cramping pain and indigestion went away. Though, now that my gallbladder is gone, it can be difficult to eat fatty foods. You can go from being constipated, to having diarrhea. I'm 5 months post-op, and I only have a bowel movement 1-2 times each week. It's awful. So now, I try to remind myself to drink Benefiber.

I was sleeved on the 3rd and most of my gas "chest pressure" is gone. I did use gas x for a few days and it helped. Not sure how you are passing gas, but the past few days I've been full of it and I feel so much better getting it out. I know tmi! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

TMI: question about bowel movements
RNY-Gal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may seem like a weird question but I need to ask. I'm 4 months post op and ever since day 4 my stool has been a light color. (White almost) its still like that. At first I thought it was normal and go back to normal color, but hasn't. So, is this the new normal thing? Or should I be worried? -
I'm 4 days post and one incision is still draining. It does not smell bad or look like infection, but I was wondering if the blood thinner shots my doc put me on are causing it. I'm also menstrual (i know TMI) and should have been done days ago. Maybe that's just stress? Should I call the office on Monday or is it nothing? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

I know this might be TMI but I don't know who else to ask. I had my original surgery date set for Jan 3, but on Jan 2nd the doctor decided I needed 5 more tests run. I was to begin my pre op diet on Dec 25th for the Jan 3rd date. So I went ahead and started the diet so that when they decided the date of my rescheduled surgery I'd be ready and wouldn't have to wait 10 more dates. What I have found is I am having constipation issues and don't know what to do about it? They did reschedule me for Jan 18th at 7:30 AM, Woot woot which I am totally excited but I don't want to deal with constipation issues up till then nor afterwards if I can ward it off. Can anyone help me and guide me on what to do? The good news is I lost 13 lbs in 10 days. Yeah. Any and all advice would be appreciated.
