    near tears...

Totally bummed today. I called Dr. Jessee's office to set up my consult. I was required to attend a seminar and a orientation prior to her seeing me...I have done both. So I called to talk to Joyce, I believe she is the one that does all the scheduling and all. She is out of the office for two weeks. I spoke with the gal who answered the phone we'll call her "C". She was rude, short and not very accomidating. The first first appt she offered me was May 6th early in the morning. I can't make that one. I have a child that has to get to school at the same time and hubby is deployed. So I don't have anyone that can help me out. I asked if maybe there was something a little later and "C" seemed very annoyed...grumbled NO, that's it. Hmmmm I said well...is there something on another day? Next available she tells me is the 12th. What choice do I have? I can't believe I have to wait almost a month for a consult. I am very discouraged and really upset with the way "C" spoke to me and treated me like I was a huge bother in her day. I am also upset cause I am pretty sure now there is no way I can get this procedure done in the short amount of time hubby will be home. He will be here for 2 weeks and then deploy again for 2 months! I'm depressed and just want to sleep all day... If I have to use "C" every time I need an appointment from this office I don't know if I want to go there.

    Protein Intake!!

I have grown quite fond of my puree concoctions! I am all about taste so I use things like low fat salad dressing to moisten the tuna which gives it a great flavor. I had surgery on 5/28/2008 and can tell that after about a week liquids wash right through but the puree "sticks" for a while. I am very careful about waiting to drink after a meal and that helps also.

    Getting back on the wagon

I have been on here since October last year. After my last post my grandmother died in front of me, then two weeks later her brother died, my favorite uncle. I didn't do well with any of those deaths. I didn't get back into over eating because the band doesn't allow you to do that but I stopped working out and not paying attention to what I was eating. Surprisingly I still have lost some weight. I'm down a total of 34 pounds and I know I could be farther along, I haven't had a fill since November because they keep canceling my appointment, that's getting rather frustrating. I still feel good about my decision and I have started getting back to where I was before I had those tragedies. People say it looks like I've lost more than the 34 pounds but I haven't. I had surgery in August of last year but I'm getting back on the wagon. I have re-enrolled in my aerobics class and have picked back up on walking each day.

    my consultation with dr geiss

ok so yesterday was my consultation with Dr, Geiss he is so sweet and nice i really liked him , i picked him cause he has done over 3000 surgery's for the lapband when i got there i first met with the nurse practiciner who went over what i could consume and cannot consume and how the lapband works , then she went over and got me weighed and i had a heavy sweater jacket on with sneakers so it read 253 pounds ! yikes ! so then dr geiss greeted me and i went into his office with my husband he asked me how long i been dieting and why do i want to have the lapband surgery , i told him how i am depressed and tired of being fat . He told me how great my insurance is and said he never has a problem with it , he also said they usually approve everyone he thinks is a good candidate and he said i am a great candidate and i will do great. also a huge plus is my insurance doesnt require a 6month diet with your doctor prior to surgery so i was happy about that , he says they are also so fast to approve they will approve within a week so i could get this surgery by the end of next month whooohoo. so then i asked dr geiss about the realize band and he told me he doesnt like that band that the lapband is more reliable and better so i took his word he then gave me all the tests i need to complete which is the following blood work to see a psycologist a nutritionist which will be out of pocket 250 dollars but my insurance covers everything eles =) cardiologist / ekg, echo, stress test pulmonary consult for pulmonary function test if he thinks i need sleep apnea test then i will go for it upper GI test my weight history documented and then 2 weeks prior to surgery i need to take a education class then i get a surgery date if im approved which he has no doubt so before i went i said to myself id this something i really want ? will this help me ? i asked my self a series of questions and came to the conclusion that i do need this surgery so i can be healthy and be me again! if i dont i will just continue to do my bad habits and gain weight and be depressed forever i want nothing more then to be healthy happy and skinny
  8. Ok, I really need some advise here... My surgeon has never mentioned Protein bars and drinks... he did say to eat protein first and ensure that my diet is rich in protein, which is mostly is (by that I mean over the last two weeks, when I have been really poorly I have waivered a little but otherwise it is protein first all the way). Now, although my weight loss is ok, it seems to be a lot slower that others and there are regular periods of my weight staying the same... so... my question is; do I invest in some Protein Drinks and include them in my daily calorie intake, or should I just keep plodding along? Oh by the way, I am in the UK so if anyone can recommend a Protein Drink that I can buy here... if you think it would be worth me trying them out??? Cheers Coops x

My sweet spot has been reached.

Well, so far so good. I had my last fill 4 days ago and was back on regular foods for the last two days. I think my band is perfect now. I tend to eat yogurt for breakfast and it goes down with just a little bit of slow down. Lunch is a tiny bit tight, and supper is perfect. I'm now down to about a cup of food at supper time....which is when I really need the help to stay on track. It looks like I will be able to maintain 1000-1200 calories pretty easily now. I was averageing a couple of hundred more then that before the fill. It doesn't sound like much difference, but thats almost half a pound a week difference. I have cut back to about 10 hours of excercise a week. I'm really busy at work right now, and the reduced calorie intake should make it all equal out.

    Liver Shrinking Ain't for Sissies

I've been ready to beat my head against the wall for days now, trying to maintain any semblance of willpower to stay on a 30g/day of carb diet. They say stress is the divided state of mind when your good sense overrides the overwhelming urge to choke the living crap out of someone who richly deserves it. Yeah, I feel like that right now. I want to grab up the dietician and scream, "Look, Skinny Minnie! If I had this much willpower, I wouldn't be having lap band surgery, now would I?" I saw the dietician on October 17, a little less than a month ago. I do great all week, staying on the 30g a day or less. Then the weekend comes. My DH and brother come barrelling through the door on Thursday night with the full intention of relaxing and making pigs of themselves with every kind of contraband snack food you can imagine. Now, my DH is thin. My brother Dante is as overweight as I am, I think. Believe it or not, they both have a job at the same factory. Just goes to show what a difference genetics can make. Anyway, after today, maybe things can be different. My DH has helped me install a locking hasp on the outside pantry and a bike lock on the outside refrigerator. I've removed all the contraband shelf stable foods to the locked pantry. All that's left in the kitchen pantry are foods I can have or things I won't eat willingly. Later I will do the same with the kitchen refrigerator, removing all those perishable things I'm not supposed to have. I've made a list of those things I can have if I'm to shrink my liver successfully. No, I don't have to be this meticulous right now. According to the dietician, the 30g/day becomes important 7-10 days before surgery, then I'll be on a liquid diet 2 days before surgery. (Lovely. Right around the holidays? Am I nuts?) Still, I'm going to give it the best try I can. I want this liver the size of a pea, if I can.

    Weight loss

I was told that If you lost a lot right before surgery that can slow down your early weight loss. It sounds like you are doing very well. At three months I was down 23 pounds from surgery. I am continuing to lose though and at almost 6 months am down 58, 102 total. We are all different. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre Op Questions

It depends on your Surgeon's program. Most follow this program: Week 1: Clear Liquids (Water, Broth, Sugar-Free, Gatorade or Vitamin Water, Protein Shakes) Week 2: Protein Shakes (Jello, Broth) Week 3: Pureed Foods (Us can mix in protein Powder with Jello and broth) Week 4: Soft Foods (Scrambled Eggs, Chicken soaked in broth) Week 5: Foods (You start testing foods to see what will sit well with you and will not)
  16. Since the scale has agreed the last 3 days, I'm taking this as law. I am FIFTY POUNDS down! 50!! 5-0. FIVE OH. WOOHOOO!!! Reached my first major goal/milestone. So, so happy. Took 16 weeks. I don't know if that is slow or average but I don't care. As long as the weight keeps coming off, I will be happy. Next goal - next 25 pounds by June.

    Working out post op

I've not done any real exercise beyond walking since surgery. But I was cleared for light weight training at 6 weeks post-op. After 6 months, I was told I could do whatever kind of weight training I wanted.
  18. My doc told me 2-4 weeks. I elected to take a month off, I am a store manager of a busy store and j knew I would be over lifting working too hard too fast. I was approved for FMLA and going back to work Thursday :-(
  19. My surgeon requires a minimum of 6 weeks (preferably 8) off if your job requires physical labor. That's pretty much a general rule of thumb for any major surgery. I have a desk job, so was able to return to work after 2 1/2 weeks, even though the doctor recommends 4 weeks. It would have been sooner, but my surgery was 2 weeks before Memorial Day and I had already scheduled vacation for an extended holiday weekend!

    Insurance question... pre-op weight

I too have AETNA and 1 week from surgery. My BMI is 35-36 and I have 4 cormorbidites. However one weigh in I was under the 35 like 34.7) and the clinic said if I fall under the insurance guidelines I wont be eligible. I totally panicked. My next weigh in was maybe 3-4 pounds higher. I was so used to Weight Watcher weigh ins that I figured I was supposed to try to lose. But for me that was an issue. But beware that you cant gain from your initial weigh in either. It was a bit hard trying not to fluctuate a few pounds either way. I really needed to talk to the clinic better at the beginning because they work with all the insurance companies and know well what needs to happen to get authorization approved. Best of Luck.

  23. I was on your place two weeks ago. My main goal for the surgery is to get healthy. Had the surgery 6/4/2018. Rough first week but feeling better each day. Pain is gone. Everything functioning well. No hunger. Weight dropping like crazy. So happy with my decision. It is a life changing decision but with this decision I am off diabetic meds and blood pressure meds and it's not even 2 weeks. Would do it again. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

    lobster mmmmm.....

Hi Seanmama, I agree with what you are saying about this "not" being an easy way out! As I sit here only 5 days out of surgery, I would like to see one of the people saying that live in my shoes for a day! We do have to think about each new food and how our bands will react. Also, what about those of us who were already eating healthy and exercising and could still do nothing but lose and gain the same 3 lbs. This is my story and I think one of the reasons why I have chosen not to tell many people about my Lap-Band. I go to Weight Watchers and I will continue now that I am banded... but this time, I am more likely to reach my goal. I won't keep going every week and feeling disappointed when I ate within my points, exercised, drank my Water and journaled my food and didn't lose a thing! Stay strong and positive... I know you will be successful with the help of your "tool". Take Care,
  25. Dang it I wish I could help you. My husband brought me home a total gym blaze and I sold it on Craigslist two weeks later. It's big and It was too much for me to figure out. You could try to look up some videos on YouTube!
