I had the gastric sleeve surgery 2 years ago. It was a revision from the lapband. My lowest weight was last year at 164. My 2 year appointment was Feb 2017. I weighed 181. I told my doctor about my concern in the gain. I told her I was concerned about stretching. She said she didn't want to operate on me again and that 164 might be the lowest my body wants to go. I was not happy, so I started researching and found the Ketogenic diet. I have been trying it for a couple of weeks. I now weight 175 but I'm concerned that I am not hitting my protein goal for this diet and I am eating too much for the sleeve. I have also been focusing on getting at least 84 oz of water in a day. Yesterday I had to eat almost 1400 calories to almost get my 106 g of protein in. I also gave in and had some carbonation this week. I found Zevia drinks. Please help. I'm not satisfied with my weight but I don't want to compromise my sleeve either.

My surgeon recommended bypass for me over the sleeve since I have GERD. They said they could do the mini gastric bypass if I wanted something with less malabsorption. I'm still going to go with the sleeve though because bypass scares me. I didn't have GERD issues before gaining weight so I'm hopeful that it will subside with weight loss or remain manageable. Worse case scenario I'll have to have a revision.

Scared about MGB, any insight??
MarinaGirl replied to whitneyisfab's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
My Mexican surgeon (Dr. Kelly) no longer does the RNY; he prefers the OAGBP as it is reversible or revisable. That's not the case with the VSG, which is permanent. -

Revision with bmi 33? Anyone had it?
jnewbie posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded with bmi 35 and gained most back. Just wondering if anyone had surgery with low bmi. Some doctors refuse to do ops under bmi 35. But it would mean gaining it all back. Thank you -
Band removed & seriously considering bypass
lf1227 replied to Mizmarycate's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey there! Sorry to hear about what you have went through, I just had my band removed + revision to the bypass 6 days ago and I am down 20 lbs. my band was NOTHING but trouble since day 1 and it spiraled me into depression for the three years I had to deal with it. Already my RNY has been good to me and I haven't even been able to go to the gym yet! I personally highly recommend the RNY because all of these wls are equally risky in their own way! If you have any questions please ask although like I said I'm only 6 days out ! Good luck [emoji173]️ -
Band removed & seriously considering bypass
Mizmarycate posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, i had my lap band removed in May 2016 - out of necessity rather than want. It took a couple of years but I lost 176lb /76kg - the problem being in the last year I think my band twisted and I couldn't eat much and became malnourished with damage done to my vagus nerve resulting in blackouts/convulsions and general ill health with my BMI hitting 18 at its lowest. I was skinny but with no energy and felt like I was slowly dying. My surgeon at the time said I should get a bypass revision but I refused as I foolishly believed food was no longer an issue for me and I'd be able to keep the weight off easily. I had a difficult surgery and was in a lot of pain afterwards and extremely weak. Anyways, without boring you lot with my history- after a couple of set backs personal and physical I ended up putting on the weight rapidly and am back to square one. I can't believe I have done this to myself after all the work I had put in over the last few years to end up here again. I went back to my surgeon and after his 'I told you so' got a massive quote €€€ as my insurance won't cover it as I don't have co morbidities... so now I am looking at cheaper alternatives in Europe with Estonia on my list. I am going to look at Belgium too. i am fearful though of malnourishment being an issue with bypass and conceiving in the future (I'm married 2 1/2 years and my Hubbie really wants a kid soon). Of course another obstacle will be my husband as I know he going to be against me going under the knife again and thanks I can do it on my own... i don't even think I have posed a coherent question here- I guess I am venting my story so guys, hopefully this wasn't too painful to read through but I know we are all here as a support network and I'm so glad to have found this forum. oh, port pain! I still have it from time to time - it's nearly a year later- any of u in the same boat? take care, mc- 8 replies

I have had 2 C-sections a hysterectomy and a lap band... the lap band was a walk in the park compared to the other 3 surgeries. I know that walking as soon as you can is the best. It is painful, but there are a ton of benefits to it. Seriously, push yourself to walk... as soon as the doc says its safe. Its all going to hurt, all surgeries hurt. Each day will be better. The results will be INCREDIBLE!! I am having a Lap Band to Bypass revision, I cannot wait to get this done and get going. I had my Lap Band with hernia repair on a Wednesday, and was back to work on Tuesday. I felt good, not great, but it was doable. oh, and I am 52 years young. Mine was laproscopic, although the C-sections and Hysterectomy were not. LOL I'm not a fan of narcotics, I heel faster without them... it seems like it any way. I just take Tylenol. the gas pain.. Holy Sweet Jesus, did I have gas pain after surgery.... yowsa.. coming out of my collarbone area. How strange. Seriously that was the most painful part. It literally felt like someone had smashed my collar bone with a hammer. Once that was gone, I was good to go. I think it took a couple hours. The nurses kept a hot pad on my shoulder. I rubbed and rubbed my collar bone so much that I had a huge bruise on it. ugh.

Was the lapband revision to sleeve done at the same time or did you have to wait a few months?
-
Am having the lap band removed on April 17th and hopefully the sleeve done at the same time. Has anyone here had the lapband removed and have had to wait for a few months before having the revision to the sleeve? How many have had the sleeve performed at the same time as the lapband removal? Thank you.

Switching from the Sleeve to the Roux en Y
nocturnalgemi replied to Ineedhelp2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I switched as soon as I got approval from insurance. I had GERD issues and didn't want to end up having to get a revision from the sleeve to RNY in a few years. It's very common for those with previous GERD who are sleeved to have to get it revised to RNY within a few years. My surgeon had recommended it at first but I was hesitant. Plus, the amount of weight lost is greater with RNY. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Can't believe my day has come. I've been trying to mentally prepare but now that the time has come I'm petrified. So many thoughts running through my head. Worried about not waking up and uncontrollable pain when I awaken from surgery. I'm being revised from Sleeve to RNY due to severe GERD having hernia repair as well. Been on Clear liquids only all day just feeling awful in every way.

Revision end of month I [emoji1374]...suppose to submit to insurance this week sometime so fingers-crossed. How long did u wait for approval?

It is normal to feel nervous.Just take a few deep breaths and try to relax.I had my revision from sleeve to bypass in Nov 2016.I am doing great.I was so nervous too,but well worth it to get rid of my reflux issues and have my Hiatal Hernia repaired again.feel so much better and have lost another 44 lbs so far.You will lose slower but if you need to lose weight you will. All without acid reflux.

Happy Easter to you as well. I will be sure to mention to my surgeon to look for scar tissue. Even with my band being empty, I still get horrible Port pain, if I sit or lay in one position to long, it burns and throbs. If I put my arm above my head it throbs, I can not do any kind of tummy exercises due to pain. If I bump it or touch it with my fingers, it's just pain pain pain.... how is your revision going? I am nervous but excited for mine:)

May surgery and surgeon has me second guessing the sleeve
OutsideMatchInside replied to AntoinetteNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with @PatientEleventyBillion I feel like your GERD will probably be resolved with losing weight. I am also so surprised to read sugeons pushing RNY on people who only need to lose 50-60 pounds, unless you are over 50, that seems like over kill. I have also seen an influx of people lately getting DS, who in the past they would have never pushed it on. If you are young and not slug the sleeve can get the job done. Also being a younger person. I chose the sleeve knowing that if things get out of hand down the line, I have revision options as I get older if I need it (I don't think I will have far exceeded my goals with the sleeve and enjoy my new life enough to protect it at all costs). RNY leaves you no revision options really. I know they tight the pouch for some people or bypass more intestine but its not the same going from like the sleeve to SIPS or DS. I have lost 182 pounds with a sleeve. You can lose a lot with it if you want to. My Dr is very skilled at them, they are all he does and he sees amazing results. -
Thank you for your response. With the insurance if you don't mind me asking m, was it through your job? Also if you know about the plication? I was for the band because I had a duodenal switch with a good surgeon but my malabsorption was so severe I had to have it revised and she already has vitamin deficiency that she has to stay on top of but it is only vit d.

I am Rachel I had a duodenal switch years ago. It worked as a matter of fact it worked too much I had it revised by dr. Crook and I am fine. I am on here today looking for help for my daughter if anyone is i tersted in any advice on Duodenal Switch I can help you out. I hope everyone has the best results and heals on the inside as well as the outside. Society judges too much., but you know that I bet

I would advise that you reconsider the Lap band. They are being phased out by surgeons all over the country because if there failure and complication rate! I've just my band taken out and revised to the RNY. I wish I would have just skipped the lap and and went for the RNy in the first place. The band got me to the point where I was vomiting 6 times a day and could barely keep water down after 3 years of no weight loss. That being said if your daughter still wants the band try to get an Aetna or bcbs shield insurance. I have BCBS and only paid $575.00 for the revision and bypass. Best of luck

May surgery and surgeon has me second guessing the sleeve
PatientEleventyBillion replied to AntoinetteNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He's way wrong about reflux. For the vast majority of people with reflux, even diagnosed GERD like me, only 1 out of 5 cases are worse because of the VSG surgery. The rest are either diet related or other conditions. For the majority, the underlying obesity problems causing reflux are more resolved than worsened due to weight loss and dietary improvements and awareness of what foods initiates reflux. In theory a smaller stomach makes easier reflux but not quite accurate. I would be skeptical of him trying to push you to RNY. Firstly, the added complications of the surgery makes it a better idea for older people or those like me with comorbidities like advanced liver disease. Risks associated with VSG are much less. Secondly, see if the door is open to revision if you have any issues with the surgery including reflux. My surgeon offered this. -
I failed my sleeve surgery.
Greensleevie replied to Steeks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As someone who just hit 3 years out, I empathize. It is natural to be able to eat more as the years pass, and to basically eat around the sleeve. I'm at a cup of food capacity now, and am hungry literally minutes after I eat. I, too have some regain, but have kept it to a minimum because I exercise. I'm at the stage where I just have to white knuckle it and use good old fashioned will power. It stinks, lol. What newer post ops don't understand is that is the natural progression of things for everyone. It's not as easy as getting back to basics and knuckling down. That's why it's better to seek advice from people who have been though it. Most in this forum haven't. Find a Facebook group of vets who regained. They're out there. The poster above was absolutely right, though when they said you may want to seek help with a therapist to find the reasons why you may want to sabotage yourself from becoming successful with this surgery. Maybe a combo of therapy and pursuing a bypass may be a good option for you? The sleeve isn't for everyone, and sometimes people need the additional help the bypass can offer. But yes, no revision will work unless you understand that this is a change for the rest of your life, and are willing and able to implement them. Good luck to you! I'm rooting for you! -
Any Sleevers for June surgery...especially Mexico
Crystal Cole replied to BCreel's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have seen a lot of people that are having to have the revision after the sleeve due to inadequate weight loss or severe reflux. BUT there are also alot of people who have had major success with the sleeve. Its just a personal choice. The bypass is a better deterrent from going back to eating the junky, sugary and fattening foods that got us here to start with. Lol. I know thats what i need. Lol. I need something that will force me to change my habits and keep me in line. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am here freaking out totally. My revision is Monday! Ready to get rid of this reflux though!

Revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-due to acid reflux?
bearhugs1975 replied to ren0318's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revision is in 2 days. To say I am not nervous is an understatement! No pre-op diet other than clear liquids and view prep tomorrow. I really hope this works!
