  1. I hopped on a plane 7 days post-op and it wasn't bad at all. Just make sure wherever you're going that you can get/bring the types of food that you're allowed to have. I flew for a work meeting and had to sneak out of dinner (to go to the grocery store for yogurt), and out of lunch (around the corner to a Soup shop). As long as you can do that, you should be okay. Everyone is different, so it'd be interesting to see if others feel if they were ready at 10 days out. Good luck!
  2. My guess is if you just adjusted a bit, you'd be fine! You have very little Protein and are pretty carb heavy. Replace some of those high sugar Snacks with protein and you'd be golden! Have you tried the cocoa dusted almonds? They are yummy! There are coffee mocha flavored, too, that are delish. eggs or greek yogurt instead of a bagel, half the pineapple and add some cheese... You know what to do. Shift the balance and still enjoy a bit of what you love.

    Thinking about it...

It's hard to describe but after the band, I'm not really craving the junk like I used to. I don't know what it is but I haven't been in a fast food restaurant for over two months and I don't miss it. Can't explain why. Also, I can have less and feel sated. The tricks that have worked for me are: 1) Keep small snack portions handy. those 100 calorie cookie packs are a life saver for me. If I'm craving sweets between meals, I do one. Same for 70 calorie pudding cups and yogurts. Plan it into your allocation for the day. Still have sweets. 2) Eat something healthy and blocking before the treat. Baby carrots do it for me. Five or six of those fill the pouch and get a little blockage at the opening so when I have a tiny slice of pie, I'm full. If you're planning daily milkshakes, sundaes, alcohol binges, etc, the band is not going to work well for you. You might do better on a malabsorbtion procedure like RnY which won't let your body absorb all the calories and put you into dumping syndrome if you try. Cal
  4. Hey gal. I just posted on another of your posts and also sent you a message. BUt here is the liver shrink diet my doctor and nutritionist gave me to follow 2 weeks prior to surgery: Liver Shrink Diet Remember: Vegetables ar unlimited on this diet. Examples: Decaf. Tea, Crystal Light, sugar-free Kool-Aid, Water Follow This 1 Day Prior To Surgery: Clear liquids only including Jello, broth, juice, and any beverages listed above. Jello can be congealed, but do not put fruit in it it. (NO RED JELLO) & NOTHING TO EAT PAST MIDNIGHT (of course). This is just what my surgeon and nutritionist gave me. 5. Hello, Maybe if you start off really simple. I only focus on protein which is calculated by .37 times your weight and this will give you how many grams you need a day. I have a low cal GNC protein drink in the morning with two scoops of the powder so that is 40 grams then I have foods that cover the other 20 grams, greek yogurt has 14 grams of protein. You can easily cover the rest with and egg or tuna. Follow all the rules, and maybe you will be able to get back on track... are you drinking your water? Good luck

Do you eat meals or wait for hunger?

In the evening I sometimes feel "hungry" but generally if I think about it I realize it's reflux. Once I take Prevacid it goes away. If I do take the PPI regularly, the only thing I get to tell me to eat is kind of an "empty" feeling. It's not "hunger" like I used to get, it's just a "my tank is empty" thing. Sometimes I eat all day from boredom still eg. weekends sitting around - but I track the intake and just eat a yogurt or something with protein and not too many calories.

    April 6 sleeve!

I had surgery done on 4/14/15 it has been 6 days I want to eat everything, i feel like I'm starving. Day 1 I had only water and ice chips day 2,3&4 I had water and protein shakes, day 5 I had a little bit of Greek yogurt with some chocolate protein powder mixed in it (approx. 2oz) and some chicken broth, not at the same time, but during the day, day 6 I had 1 apple sauce no sugar added organic. 3.5 oz. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have these things in my first week but I feel great. Keeping all fluid down and incisions are healing good. My information pack I got to refer to after surgery says I can have things that can slip through a funnel. I'm hoping what I'm doing is ok. I've tried calling my Drs office to ask but the time difference between where I had the procedure and where I live is a problem. ( I went to another state to do my sleeve). Someone please let me know if what I'm doing is DANGEROUS.

  16. This happens to me quite often. Some days I can eat absolutely ANYTHING I want no matter how bad or good it is, how dense or lean it is, etc. Other days however, I have, "bad," band days where I cannot eat ANYTHING without getting it stuck. I will try to drink coffee first thing out of bed to try and loosen my band, but nothing, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna - nothing even liquids are difficult. I'm writing to see if this happens to anyone else or just me? Right now I'm actually getting a bit concerned because I have not been able to eat anything since Saturday. I don't feel the pain I normally do when I'm stuck, just the pressure. Does anyone have any experience with this?
  17. Hey Want2Be - I posted on your full liquids thread. Basically just started an hour ago. Yogurt! YUM!

    Still a Fight!!

We both had surgery the same day. I have been eating Kroger Brand carb master vanilla yogurt. 1 of those is 12g protien. It takes me around an hour to complete 3/4 of it. But on top of that, I try to drink 1 20oz bottle of the RTD Isopure drinks that I got from GNC. They are tolerable. 1 bottle has 40 g protien. So between that and the yogurt, I end up getting 52 g per day. Now fluid consumption...thats another story. Im only getting around 32 oz a day. Always room for improvement I guess. FYI: GNC has the Isopure RTD bottles on sale right now until 2/24/11 for BOGO 50% off. They are normally $4.99 a bottle. Hope this helps..

    Still a Fight!!

Try NECTAR protien shakes. Peach is a great starting point. It's nice and clean, and will give you the protien you need. True that getting in your liquids is important, but with the right shake, you can accomplish both. The protien will also speed your healing. Also, when you're permitted soft foods, greek yogurt is a great way to boost protien.

    Still a Fight!!

I am 5 weeks out and actually found it easier to get my Protein in during my Mushies phase, because I was drinking a couple of Protein shakes a day. Now I have to pay more attentiion, and I've missed my "40 grams" mark now several days. I tried Protein Bars, but they all taste like sawdust, and I am thiking of making my OWN, using unflavored unjury power. Anybody try making their own protein bars yet??? Also mixing yogurt and throwing in a raw egg into one smoothie really bumps up the protein to like 30 grams per shake... Good luck with it!! Cinderella

    Anyone From India?

Neil, 3 months out with a 62 pound loss! That's amazing! Being a vegetarian in America will definitely be much easier than in India. There is a larger variety of Protein options available to you. Natural, low fat cheeses, greek yogurt, low fat milk, powdered Peanut Butter, protein powders, nuts, and soy products. All these items are staples you should have in your house, to provide yourself with daily variety! I'm in California. Good luck to you!

    High protein low carb recipes

Last night I was on a support group meeting (I'm pre-op) and they were talking about "banana protein pancakes". 1 banana, 1 egg, 1 scoop of protein powder mashed in a bowl then cooked like a pancake (apparently it also works in a waffle maker, but I don't have one). It makes two pancakes, they said. I'd never made pancakes before (yeah, I am normally a pretty good cook, but I'm not a breakfast person). I tried it this morning and it was pretty good, except that I cooked it at too high a temperature and the outside got a little too brown. I would recommend cooking on medium. I just made one big pancake because my pan is too small to separate it into two different pancakes. I didn't have an egg so I used 1/4 cup egg whites. I usually would eat pancakes with maple syrup, but that defeats the "low carb" so I used a little light cool whip. I know one woman in the support group used butter; I might try that if I make them again. I tend to make normal meals but don't make the "carb" portion. So, like I'll just have piece of broiled salmon with green beans. Or I'll eat a can of tuna fish with Suzie's Rice Squares instead of bread/crackers and a side of a red bell pepper. Or if I want lasagna, I'll replace the noodles with mostly eggplant that I roast in strips first. Chili is another good one. Top it with greek yogurt instead of sour cream (I can't tell the difference!) and some cheese. I have eaten cheeseburgers/turkey burgers without the bun. I don't like the feeling of eating them in lettuce so I just eat them with a knife and fork. I like the low carb tortilla wraps by Fiber One and Mission and I'll put deli meat and cheese in them and toast them in a pan with non stick spray for a sort of "melt" or "faux quesedilla".
  25. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it doesn’t seem normal but I honestly don’t look up a lot of forums or ask for help. I like the weight falling off and amazingly I don’t really have a lack of energy despite never really eating anything. I work out at the gym three times a week. I mainly drink water through the day and one cup of oikos yogurt and that’s it
