wait 3 months to eat carbs?!
kcuster83 replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each program has it's own set of guidelines for their own reasons. My theory is that if you trust them to preform surgery then trust them to guide you through the process. Follow their plan. My program never limited carbs. As @Tomo said, just get protein in first then some veggies and from there eat what you want while staying within your daily calories. I think other than a single bite here and there I probably couldn't get carbs in till 3/4 months after surgery anyway though. Now, it just depends on the day. Sometimes I eat 30 carbs and other days I eat 150. -
When were you guys allowed to start eating carbs? How did you feel? I follow a Youtuber that got the sleeve & she was allowed to eat anything including carbs after 6 weeks, while my Kaiser program wants me to wait 3 months so I was shocked to see her start eating rice, tacos & pancakes so soon. I had no clue the carb time-line varied so much

New Here and Planning Surgery in October
katvondemon replied to NewBeginningsMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A little late to this thread but I had my sleeve on 10/24 so I am just past the 3 week mark. The pre op diet sucked. The first couple of days wasn’t so bad as I drank a lot of water, broth, jello and protein shakes. However 48 hours before surgery I was told to stop the protein shakes. I immediately started feeling weak and had headaches from the lack of nutrition. It was the longest 2 days ever. After the surgery it was weird. I had some pain and nausea the first day or two but that went away thankfully. The weird part is I don’t really get hungry or thirsty. I’m eating soft foods now and can’t have more than a couple bites before I feel the fullness pressure. But I could absolutely not eat and be fine. I want to eat because I miss food, but physically I’m not getting signals that I need to eat. I’m also struggling with fluids because I can’t drink more than a small sip at a time so it takes a long to drink a single glass of water. Overall I’m doing well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I thought I would in the first few weeks but I’m not worried. I know my body is going through all the trauma of surgery and lack of calories that it’s got to work itself out. My clothes are fitting better though so I know something is happening. -

another resto dinner. ordered 2 apps (braised pork belly and grilled octopus cuz i couldn't decide), and dessert (gold leaf bourbon chocolate truffle skulls...so cute right??) ate one piece of the pork (i didnt like the kimchi it was sitting in...too much sauce, not enough cabbage), and all the cracklin pieces (3 of em) the octopus was Dee-Lish-ous, omg...ate a tentacle and a half and all the greens. ate 1 of those super cute skulls. no after pics cuz its all in mr.'s stomach, ha! didnt bother tying to figure out the cals..am just gonna log something later that has 600 calories. ...and i didn't drink any alcohol (shocker!) cuz me and mr. and i are going dry for the rest of the month for a bet lol. -
Walking = awesome. Walking with dumbbells = not so awesome. This can actually cause gait or balance issues, which means you're more likely to injure yourself. Also, while it adds a tiny bit of resistance, it's not really enough to make much difference. IMO, keep walking, but lose the dumbbells. Add in a separate strength training routine 2-3 times a week. If you need some help figuring out where to start, Google "bodyweight strength training for beginners".

Agreed on not weighing yourself everyday. This is very normal & checking everyday will only bring on stress (which doesn't help the stall) you WILL eventually start losing again as long as you follow your plan, so might as well just relax & focus on just healing! Things will be okay

Okay, well for now I am only taking the stomach acid pill once daily and then doing shots of blood thinner plus vitamins. I did have a theory that maybe it was the shots. Because I had been injecting my stomach since surgery and then I changed it up a few days right before this started and injected in both arms. So, probably a long shot but maybe something happened from the few times I injected in my arms? I since stopped like a week ago and went back to the stomach just in case.

Will my face and neck regain their appearance after rapid weight loss?
pintsizedmallrat replied to Hannah_Johnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 40, I've lost more than half my previous body weight (231 lbs to 109), and was carrying a LOT of weight in my chin. I almost looked like I had a goiter it was so bad. My skin tends to go in spells, I am essentially "done" actively losing weight and am in maintenance now, and I found that when I stalled my skin would catch back up, and then I'd lose more and it would look saggy. While I don't think I'm ever going to look as good as if I had never been fat, I'm hoping that now that I'm basically going to stay put, it will get to a point where I am no longer self conscious about it and won't need to have surgery. My belly, though...that's a different story, unfortunately. I look like a deflated balloon. -
yup stay off the scale... you will stop loosing weight for a bit throughout the journey. They are called stalls. typically at your 3rd week is where you hit your first one where you probably wont loose any weight for a couple weeks. Just stick to the program and it will come off

It will get easier, trust me. By day 4 it was bearable but the first 3 days, I was wondering if everyone who said it gets easier was just lying lol I'm on day 9 and get hungry but drink water and it goes away then my shakes once some time has passes. I also do jello and broth in between. -
I have to agree I accept others opinions I have very high confidence my surgery is gonna go fantastic. I know there's a lot of stuff we should not eat I stopped myself before I even knew about what kind of process I had to do I've been reading the blue book. I know after surgery to drink and sip on only once from a very small amount. It's kinda amazing how many men and women lost so much weight and kept it off especially keeping the will to work out five days a week. Sent from my TMAF035G using BariatricPal mobile app

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

I meal prep my lunches usually. A lot of times crock pot meals, mainly because it is easier. This week I made "Mississippi roast beef" it is the best roast I have ever eaten! I will have to take a picture during my lunch tomorrow and share it. If you look up the recipe- I used half of the butter in the recipe and will likely just leave the butter completely out next time. -

I am on day 2 of my two week liquid pre op. I keep telling myself if I made through day one I can make through day two and on and on.... I am taking it one day at time. I am treating it like being in recovery from any other addiction, one day at a time. I am also praying my way through this whole process. Surgery is Nov 28th. -

Hi. I was also sleeved on the 8th. I can not say what is normal, but my scale is newish and unreliable. It told me I've only lost 3 pounds since my surgery. Dont worry so much about the scale. I have faith my dietitian and Dr. Will let me know if something is wrong. You got this. -

Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to heartofmercury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My last stall was 4 weeks. I was also getting frustrated and stressed about it. I started tracking EVERYTHING I ate and drank (you'd be surprised what "healthy" drinks still have a lot of carbs and calories) and I added weight training to my exercise routine. 3 days later, my stall broke. This was on the advice of my nutritionist, and it worked. Track every single thing you consume and change up your exercise routine. -
Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sometimes do this. I have a chart on my fridge and I list what I eat, when I eat it, the calories and carbs I eat (did this because I noticed that I was paying way more attention to carb consumption and not calories, and I was having WAY too many calories per day, so now I can track it easier and make better choices). I have 3 meals and a snack per day, but I always allow for a 2nd snack in the evening if I really need/want it. If I don't, then those budgeted calories/carbs go uneaten for the day. If I do, it was already budgeted in and I'm still within my limits. Sometimes it's all about playing head games with yourself....and winning lol -

Hope4NewMe replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree on the stalls. I know its normal and expected but I still felt like a failure. I wish I could eat chicken more. Its the perfect food to get the protein without the extra fat. Right now I eat mostly ground pork because it has less fat than the beef I used to buy and its even cheaper then beef too. So win win but still not as good as chicken lol. What do you eat for breakfast that has chicken? I have not been liking eggs so breakfast has been my hardest meal for protein unless I eat yogurt. Chili has been my favorite food atm. I bought some Hormel turkey chili and it was pretty yummy and not too bad for me, although seemed high in calories. -
Vomiting food 10 weeks post op
BayougirlMrsS replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Arabesque said what I was thinking. Well-cooked anything at is point will not be your friend. Also, the bread is more likely your enemy right now. Try just the patty-cooked med. Cut into tiny bites like the size of your pinky nail. Take a bite, put the fork down, place your hands under your butt, chew at least 20 times, and swallow........ never never have any drink near you. Wait 20-30 min to drink after your last bite. Right now you should only be eating about 3 bites. Also, try and keep your food log up to date. This way you can go back and see what is working and what is not. -

I’m pretty sure a this cost around $3 and 20 mins to make a quart of this. I almost exclusively use Masoor Dal because it’s a quicker cook.
