Thank you!!! Im 250 & have severe sleep apnea and have other issues from weight gain. I am now on the liquid diet and am scheduled for surgery on Oct 10th. Have been seeing others talk about leaks just has me spazzing out. Gettin scared but at the same time i know this surgery will help. Just mixed emotions i guess.

Jan. 18th... no menu. Maybe blogging isn't for me.

I love your statement "To accept that I am worth this." I am brand new lapband. My surgery is February 11th. I've read a couple of your blogs. Please keep going. I'm so concerned about the menu part and feeding my family at the same time as I restrict what I eat. When members like you post their menus, it gives me ideas. I can't really give advice on the 2 pound weight gain, but congratulations on the overall 30 pound loss! Cindy

    Moodiness BEFORE Surgery?

As far as birth control...I did depo and gained weight. My dr suggested the Nexplanon implant. It goes in your arm, it's like a little plastic stick and it lasts for 3 years. It was a little more painful but but worth it and it doesn't cause weight gain.

    New in here

HEY GUYS HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED WEIGHT GAIN? I WAS SURPRISED AS HECK TO SEE TODAY I STEPPED ON THE scale AND HAD GAIN ALMOST 4 LBS. I DID UP MY CALORIES A BIT. I WAS EATING 500-600 CALORIES AND NOT LOSING MUCH. SOMEONE MENTIONED YOU SHOULD EAT MORE BECAUSE OF THE WHOLE THROWING THE BODY INTO STARVATION MODE. I UPPED MY CALORIES TO ABOUT 800. MY Protein IS AT 60-70 GRAMS. BUT THAT THROW ME THIS MORNING. I ALSO HAVE ALWAYS LOVED Water, SO I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. I'D REALLY RATHER DRINK WATER THAN EAT NOW. I HAVE AN APPT. THURS WITH THE DOCTOR AND ONE WITH THE DIETITIAN THE NEXT WEEK. I'M CERTAINLY GOING TO FIND OUT WHAT THEIR TAKE ON THIS IS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS THE RANGE OF CALORIES I'M SUPPOSE TO BE SHOOTING FOR, BUT JUST WONDERING IF IT HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON WHAT I FIND OUT.

A Little Help From My Friends...

My name is Vanessa and I am turning 40 on December 14th. My first 40 years, it seems, I have spent trying to manage a healthy weight with a string of diets and will power. All of that has got me where? To my heaviest weight to date. My next 40 years, I want to spend traveling...reaching my goals......raising healthy children. All without my body being a hinderance. Earlier this year.....I couldn't ride a rollercoaster with my 11 yr old son. I couldn't fit in the seat. I was mortified for him...for me. That was my rock bottom. For a fat girl...I have alot of energy and am pretty athletic as I am on a softball team and a yoga student. My mind believes that my weight, in general, doesn't keep me from living life. In part that's true. But my heart and soul wonder, what could the healthy weight girl do? What could she accomplish? How much "better" could she be! I would be a rockstar....a super hero! I look forward to meeting her once I dig her out of years of weight gain and disappointment. I know she's there....I can hear her!
  6. I'm in my 3rd month of 6 months of prep for GB and am terrified of gaining even a single pound for fear of insurance turning me down. Wondering how Ohio Medicaid is on this. Anyone else had/have this issue?
  7. Sounds about right, with the lapband....in most cases they have not done anything other than "Install" the device....now is the post op phase where it is all about healing from the surgery and getting back to normal...which sounds like you are doing. The next phase will be a series of band adjustments - fills....this is where the fun begins... Four weeks after surgery I had my first fill, and it was a good one....after which I started to gain weight....untill my 2nd fill 4 weeks after that..... I was very frustrated and upset to say the least....was told I needed to be counting calories, measuring portions, keeping a journal..... I immediately told them that that was what I've been doing with just about every other diet I have ever been on, and there have been plenty, and I did not need surgery and all the hoops and $$ that went into it, just to do what I have done before.... They calmed me explaining the adjustment process, Yellow-Green-Red Zone, etc, etc, and until I got the band in good harmony with me, there was nothing else I could do but diet.....but I stink at diets so weight gain it was...even with the band. For me it took 4-5 months after surgery to get it...then another few months of numerous stuck episodes, etc, adjusting my eating habits and behaviors, a new way of doing things... Happy to say, having gotten through that phase, the band is, and has been working PERFECTLY for the last 3 years now. Diet is a four letter word....I have adjusted myself to co-exist with a adjusted band, and have come to live a new lifestyle....a lifestyle that has brought me back to a normal weight, restored my health, and many other factors.... best thing I could have ever done for myself..... This thing DOES WORK!
  8. Maybe someone on here can help me because everytime I call Humana for an answer I get a different one. So the requirements are changing for surgery effective May 1,2017, to me this means that I would need to complete each of these requirements within 6 months before my surgery. What do u all think? Clinical record* of participation in and compliance with a multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen (within 6 months prior to surgery) which includes the following: o Absence of weight gain during the course of the program; AND Behavior modification regarding dietary intake and physical activity (unless medically contraindicated); AND o Nutrition education/counseling with a dietician or nutritionist that addresses pre- and postoperative dietary intake expectations; AND • Preoperative psychological evaluation and clearance (within 12 months prior to procedure) to rule out psychiatric disorders (eg, chemical dependency, major depression or schizophrenia), inability to provide informed consent or inability to comply with pre- and postoperative regimens *Clinical record documentation must include a summary of historical (failed attempts) as well as details of present exercise program participation (eg, physical activity, workout plan), nutrition program (eg, calorie intake, meal plan, diet followed), BMI and/or weight. So, if I started this journey in January 2017 but dont want to have my surgery until maybe July-August would I submit everything now before May 1 before these changes take effect? I kno I should be asking my insurance company but nobody seems to know and I havent got the same answer twice after calling for clarification atleast 5 times. So now I want to know what you all think, do I sound like Im right or no?
  9. I am scheduled for surgery on July 8th. I am nervous because my doctor/center didn't mandate a 'pre-op' diet of liquids. I am worried I have gained weight. Has anyone been denied surgery based on weight gain? I am about a 42 BMI and had no problem getting approved. PLEASE HELP. Should I do my own protien diet?

How To Tell What Size Body Frame You Are

The size that you were at a healthy / normal weight when you were 18ish is your body's natural inclination. The size of your bones do not change past that point (well until you get old!), especially for girls because we've quit growing by then. Females' growth plates have closed by 18, so whatever your bone structure was at that time in your life is what your frame size truly is. With weight gain, childbearing, health problems etc., it may seem as though our bone structure changes, but it does not and can not. The extra weight gives us bigger shoe, clothes, and ring sizes and makes it seem as though our bones have somehow grown in mass, but it just doesn't work that way. It's fat and nothing more. Btw, if anyone wants to see how much fat and tissue is really masking your bone structure, stick your hand (palm side down) underneath one of those high velocity bathroom hand dryers. It is crazy!

    Is this water retention?

SOunds like you have been dealing with some hormonal shifts and that can TOTALLY cause weight gain / stall. I woudl recommend that you start getting some more Fiber in your diet to get the bowels moving regularly. Eat a 1/2 cup of oatmeal every day if you can. I am also really bad about Water intake, but it doesn't seem to stall my progress. I also find jusy changing up what I eat can keep my weight moving. I was eatign the exact same thing every day for the first couple of months - since I started to change it up, I have been losing more every week. I would also go back to the doc and talk about the dysmennhoria (no periods). It is not normal to have that for a long time. At this point in your weight loss journey, you should be getting back to normal. You might have to go on a hormone suoplement (birth control pill) to get the periods under control until your body can regulate on its own. Good luck!
  12. I was prepared for the three week stall. I have read numerous threads about it and know it happens to everyone. I weigh myself once every few days, sometimes up to five days. I last weighed myself on Saturday. I was 270. This morning, I am 271.4. I am still on a liquid diet, getting about 75 to 80 grams of Protein. I drink about 50 ounces of Fluid, working to get to 64 ounces. My goal is to have a lymphatic massage to release toxins and detox. Is weight gain also normal during the stall? Weight gain?

Hello I haven't had the surgery yet but since I started my journey 4 months ago I've lost 43 pounds. I'm a 52 yr old male 5 7 hw 297 cw 253 There has been times I've experienced stalls and weight gains Remember a pound of fat is around 3,500 calories so if you haven't consumed that much in a day or so it's Water weight. I hope that was helpful Sent from my SM-N915V using the BariatricPal App

I can keep myself in the butt!!! OAN: I have a surgery date of September 19th! I can't really be excited because of this weight gain issue! Please pray for me that all goes well...

Did Not Notice Weight Gain ?

I have always been overweight and bigger than people my age. I guess when I really noticed a definite weight gain was after I got married. I gained about 50 pounds. Some traumatic things happened in my life and I just gave up caring. I cannot wait until I have my surgery and hit my goal weight! I don't ever remember being at a healthy weight. I just want to know what that feels like, lol!
  16. When did you guys realize that you had gained a lot of weight ? Lol I didn't recognize mine until I went into a store and tried on my normal size clothes (14/15 or (15/16) and realized they were 1 sneeze from the seams bursting lol ?

    Thanks For The Help Family

I was sleeved on 2/14. I have a high tolerance for pain also. The incision part of the procedure have given me no problems. No bruising, only slightly sore, I am getting around great. I have already logged 8 miles walked this week. My sleeve is extremely small though. It is a great struggle to get in the liquids. I have to carry a drink in my hand the entire time I am awake. I do expect it to get better over the next few days as the swelling goes down. Don't get me wrong, when I woke up I was in pain; but the team were on that like white on rice. They made sure I had everything I needed. Now, if you are like me, you are sick of hearing people say "sip, sip, sip" by now; but trust me, it is the truth. A sip is ALL you are going to get down at first. So, don't be surprised. Also something I haven't heard anyone talk about is the weight gain in the hospital. Expect to gain 10# in IV fluids and be grateful for every single one. This gives you a pad between you and dehydration. This way you can have a little time to get to feeling better. Don't worry about those scales at first, THOSE pounds are your friend. I haven't been out that long, so I can't give you much more. Just steel your constitution and you can make it. We will all be here if you need us.
  18. So I've had some weight gain and struggles, so I've been playing around with a few sites like sparkpeople. I need to lose about 15 lbs by March 20th I"m in my bros wedding and my dress is too tight! For the amount im working out now, SP says I should be eating about 1300-1600cal a day. But my trainer says 1200-1300. I've had a complete unfill bc of constantly pbing. I plan to have some put back in soon. it's only been 2 weeks. I know it's all about calories in and calories out. I wasn't losing crap bc I couldn't get in solid Protein, and I WAS making poorer food choices bc of this problem. Everything I ate, my body hung on to. SO who's right SP, or my trainer? Since I REALLY gotta get some weight off quick bc of my bros wedding, I thought about doing the 17day diet? Any thoughts?
  19. Thanks, Japan! Awesome that you're erasing a year's worth of weight gain! It's cool that we have surgery dates so close together! I'm feeling hungrier in Day 2, though that may be because I wasn't as diligent in having in-between-meal Snacks (was really busy today). I'm finding that the snacks I'm loving the most are the "string cheese" snacks, kind of like the ones for kids. 80 calories, 6g fat (energy), 6g protein, and only 1 carb. What I'm focusing on is that I've felt hunger, no cravings. A snack will tie me over till mealtime. I'm not pining for foods on my no-no list. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Food Funeral For Real!

612belly man oh man, did i see right? you gained 4 lbs. only kidding about your small weight gain, don't kick yourself in the tush too much don't beat yourself up about it either i am now hanging head down very low i had two weeks prior to WLS, that i went food crazy My dr. didn't require a pre- op diet op before WLS. i wish he had, that might have prevented me from eating too much. so its the dr.s fault, right? i don't think so, he didn't force food down my throat i didn't need any help with that I gained weight pre-surgery. mmm don't seem to remember how much i gained oh yeah, for my ears only its true, other people go through this longer food funeral too, so you're not the only one good luck, you'll be fine kathy

    Birth Control

Hi Ladies: I am the mother of a soon-to-be 2yr old & my husband and I have decided that we dont even want to discuss having another child within the next 5 yrs. So, I NEED some type of birth control. I had NuvaRing & ortho tri cyclen & believe they contributed to my weight gain. With all the recalls, the horrors of regaining the weight looming, and the possible side effects of an IUD, what's a girl to do?? What are some of you doing or using for birth control? Thank you in advance.

    Gaining Weight!

Are you getting in enough calories, Water, sleep and Vitamins?? Without enough calories your body will fight to keep you from losing and I have found I gain weight as well. The others also impact weight loss and weight gain. I tend to find that I gain and lose on a fairly regular basis, so do not worry too much, soon it will drop as long as you are doing all the things I listed including exercise often and enough Protein. You do not want your body going into starvation mode, that is not a good thing and makes things harder for you. At 2 weeks though calories is so much not a big issue, how about water intake? yes and your period can impact your weight, as well as your body is still recovering from surgery and will be fighting everything for a bit. Do not worry it will come off... look forward to a lot of this up and down thing, I have just come to accept it as part of the journey and try not to let it drive me crazy. Good luck
