  1. Glad things went well. I am seriously thinking of a revision. Was your process the same as your initial surgery...such as required documents to show attempts of losing weight, seeing many professionals prior to (psych, nut), and the length of time in general ( initial interest to surgery date)? I have been researching revision for days and was hoping to get more info!!
  2. It's totally normal (it happens to almost all of us) to stall between weeks 3 and 5 post-op. I'm also seeing a trend of stalling again around month 5. Most of the March 2017 sleevers I know report stalling about 5 months out. It's true that revision patients lose slower -- I made a very conscious decision to throw everything I have at losing wait in the first six months. I started exercising (walking) 2 weeks post-op. At month 5, I'm doing cardio (elliptical) 4x a week, weight training 4x a week and doing yoga 2x a week. My calories are hovering between 800 and 1000 a day. As my weight loss has started to slow a bit, I've just started experimenting with Intermittent Fasting. I figure the harder I work during the "honeymoon" phase, the more likely it is that I'll have good habits to sustain me as I approach goal and maintenance.
  3. Hey there fellow bariatric pals. I am looking for advice or anyone with similar experience. I have GS March 2014 with top weight of 250 at 5'6" BMI 41. I lost about 55 lbs which my lowest weight has never exceeded about 185. (Goal weight about 165) So, at this time, I have gained back some weight and am at 200 lbs. So about 15 lbs back again. My doctor recommended perhaps having the Duodenal Switch/Revision to continue to take more weight off. But, I really only need to lose about 30-35 lbs. I am afraid that I will get under 160 lbs and be too thin. Has anyone had the DS after the sleeve? Still researching and trying to make the best decision. Thanks to all for your time to read and comment. NY1966
  4. I had the Sleeve in 2009 and revision to Bypass in May 2020, after regaining all the initial weight I had lost and having medical issues including severe GERD. I lost 40 pounds in the first four months since the revision. It also helped me get off of multiple medications and improved health issues I had begun having. It was a hard decision to make, but I'm very happy and so much healthier than before. I ride a stationary bike 30-60 minutes a day now, and before the revision I would not have been able to do this. Great decision for me
  5. Ask yourself why did you want the GBS vs VSG and then what made you choose VSG and then why now you want GBS again if whatever you answer makes sense to you gen go with that. I always say go with your gut feeling and ask if you can change surgery cause then you might then later on go get a revision and that's another surgery.

  7. Hi Everyone, Im just wondering had anyone had any problems with a port/ tubing leak with Dr. Chris? I had a leak in August 2011 and have just found out i might have one again Im devastated and furious and just keep asking, why me? I got my band on 29th June 2010 and had a rocky start. they couldnt find my port to fill it and i ended up going over to brussels in November 2010 to Dr chris. he was able to fill it for the first time but told me my port was loose and hanging off. I was terrified but he assured me it would be fine and i could still get fills and loose weight, but i would eventually need a revision surgery. I threw myself into losing weight and got fills after this in Dublin with ecfs. In April 2011 i finally achieved perfect restricition and was loosing weight steadily, by May i got down to 17 stone and was feeling amazing. In july i noticed my restriction had decreased so i booked another fill to top it up. three days after the fill i realised something was wrong, i couldnt feel my band restricting me anymore. It was empty. Frederik arranged for me to go back to belgium for a revision and ECFS paid for everything except my fiance's flight. The operation wasnt as painful as the first but i still had to take two weeks to recover. Dr Chris advised me that the tubing had wrapped around the port and it had been punctured when i went for the fill. But now, 8 months on and im still struggling. Since that operation i have not felt restriction once. I have been for 6 fills and have been unable to feel a thing. After my last fill in April i had enough, i decided to fly over to dr chris in brussels and get checked because ecfs were telling me i had 7.75 mls in my band but i felt nothing. I know what restriction feels like so i was worried that the band had slipped or something. In his home clinic in brussels, dr chris pulled out the contents of the band and surprise surprise there was barely anything in the thing. So he tells me its possible there is another leak. He advised me to contact frederik and arrange further action. I am sick and tired of these problems when everyone else i know has had none! Has anyone had an experience like this? Am i just unlucky? I'm considering having it removed at this point. Amanda

  9. I am a revision patient. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I don't feel hungry, have been measuring my food and have lost a lot in the past 2 weeks. Maybe 16lbs? Anyway I am so worried because I hear of people only being able to get down 1-2 ozs at this point. I can eat 3-4 oz of purees no problem. I haven't felt pain or anything with eating - only a once or twice a twinge or something. Once or twice a bit of nausea from eating. I am on purees and I have eaten baked ricotta, yogurt, egg salad, refried Beans and even soft mashed fish. Is it because I am on purees that I don't feel much more than a lack of desire to eat?
  10. My husband was deployed during my revision, and during the first 4 months of my journey. I dropped 80lbs during that 4 months, and YES, he was more jealous and possessive when he first came home. He stuck to me like glue. One day we were out shopping, a higher ranking guy, walked up to me, politely (not flirty) said 'hi there, how are you?' I replied back with 'fine thank you and yourself'. My husband was a few feet away, and he marched over, slid his arm around my waist and kissed my forehead. The guy walked off, I looked up to my husband and said " you need to quit hiking your leg on my thigh ". I nipped it in the bud quickly. I don't tolerate other people's insecurities to drown me. I told him that he just needed to accept that men are going to find me attractive just like they did when I was fat. He just didn't believe that other men hit on me back then. John's been home since October 1, and he's finally figured it out that I'm not going to leave him. We talked through a lot of stuff. Communication is vital, and pure honesty. I have found that since losing weight I'm slightly less tolerant of b.s. I didn't tolerate, or let people walk all over me just bc I was fat. It's only gotten worse since I don't have the fat to hide behind. My husband was definitely worried when I got below his own weight (170). But, he's loosened up quite a bit. Our marriage is actually stronger because of my surgery. I'm more active, more open sexually, more intimate, more loving, more confident (I was pretty confident pre-op it just got better post-WLS), I have more energy to go and do things. We eat better meals, our sex life is well pretty phenomenal, we're closer emotionally because this journey is definitely emotional. If no one has warned you, the hormone flux post-op can be pretty horrific. I swear I had horrible PMS, crankiness, irritable, almost irrational mood swings during the weight loss. So, don't be surprised if you find yourself crying one minute then laughing the next. Or, if you are super moody, and upset, it's pretty normal, most of us go through it. I think talking about everything is way better than arguing about the little things. If your marriage is strong, and y'all can communicate openly, you should be able to work through the many different emotions and thoughts that will come during your WLS journey.
  11. i had the revision too. i never heard of removing the band pre surgery tho. my doc removed it at the same time he did the rny. no point in going thru an extra surgery. he just unfilled my band about 2 months before surgery.
  12. I failed my lab band. Have had it for 11 years. Lost 60, gained it all back. Unless I take phentermine, I want to eat all the time and keep gaining weight. I'm wondering if I should consider a revision to a sleeve considering my food obsession. What do you think? Sent from my SM-G360P using the BariatricPal App

Hi All - I am a 58 year old female... wife, mother of 2 grown boys and grandmother of 2 as well. I am having RNY revision from LapBand on 10/3 at Roger Williams Hospital with Dr. Pohl. I live in Taunton, MA but chose a doctor in RI due to my company's bariatric policy requiring a UHC certified Hospital of Excellence. I have heard AWESOME things about Dr. Pohl so am very happy he is my surgeon. I had the lapband installed in 2008... lost 58 lbs in 6 months... and over the last few years have gained back every pound of my loss. I get stuck all the time and end up having to vomit to stop the pain. Sometimes it lasts for hours. I am excited to be a part of this fledgling group and hope to offer as much support as I am sure to receive from all of you.
  14. I had FAR less pain with my revision than I did getting the band in. (Especially the incision where the port was inserted originally. It healed a lot faster this time.) I will say this though...I did use my pain pump a couple times, but if I was awake, I kept an ice pack across my belly to help with the swelling. It was WONDERFUL!
  15. The dr talked about how he was going to do my sleeve. He actually folds my stomach over the staples to prevent any leakage (the thing they worry about the most with the sleeve). Told me from my ct scan (they took a ct 6 weeks ago while in the ER for a band herniation) that I was a perfect candidate. So I was all ready to schedule my surgery for next month. Then..... He sent me to the insurance coordinator. She then found out that I had cancelled my Medicare part B last year (it's for drs office visits and since I'm a vet, I go to the VA for drs appts, I felt like I wa wasting $110 a month on it if I never used it. Medicare part A covers the hospital. Then she told me that part B covers the dr's charges, bloodwork, etc. Comes to $5,000! I can either re-up my Medicare part B or come up with 50% of the money to have it done. I call Social Security and they inform me that I can't re-enroll until Jan 1st and it won't take effect till next July! A whole year! So here I sit with a herniated band, totally unfilled. And I got on the scale today and weighed 177! I weighed 144 Dec of 2011 when I got married. I've gained 33 lbs in a year. About 10 lbs just last month. I know I can't do it on my own, I tried for 40 yrs. My husband is convinced that I should low carb it (he actually means almost NO carbs, he takes everything to the extreme) like he does. Keeps reminding me that when I was on Atkins in feb (I didn't cheat once in 4 weeks) I lost 14 lbs. Which I gained back the next month, of course. It's so easy for him to low carb it, not for me. He's very supportive of my weight loss surgery goals but thinks I could lose the weight dieting. I cried all the way home (a 3 hrs drive). I'm so afraid if I fail again, I will become a hippo and weight 250 again. I know that 177 isn't the end of the world, but to me it is. I have 1 pair of shorts that fit me this year (out of about 18 of em) I was wearing an 8, now I tried on a 12 today and it was comfy. Double digits again. Anyway, if you've read this all the way thru - thank you. I know I write novels when I write. You should hear me in person, I chatter alot! So it's either come up with $2500 (almost impossible), or diet until next July when I can have the sleeve done and my bad band taken out. I guess I hafta have it out eventually. I'm sure a slipped band isn't something that can stay in forever. And I loved my band. It made me feel "normal" for once. I didn't have to count what I was eating, I just ate what I wanted, just much less of it. I was so looking forward to the sleeve when I could have portion control back. Anyway, thanks for listening. Advise?

    Two questions

Hi peeps! Two questions for everyone if you can answer.. 1. I am 14 days post op (band to sleeve revision) and the largest incision is almost healed however the internal tissue surrounding the incision is super hard.. Does the density of that tissue minimize overtime!? 2. I notice many folks are experiencing stalls 3-4 wks out what did you do to overcome it?
  17. I could be you , I had a band in 2009 lost all my excess weight, kept it off for ages and then it stopped working. I had a band to bypass revision in Jan and haven’t looked back. All my excess weight has come off - I now sit around 49kg and my diet is so much healthier. I can eat steak and chops and salads and there are no stuck episodes. I no longer waste nights out in restaurant loos because my first bite of food got stuck. To me my RNY does what the band was marketed to do. I know when i’ve had enough, I don’t get stuck, full is in my stomach not my throat and I can eat small amounts of healthy food and be satisfied. Sugar causes me issues if I’m not careful but that is a good thing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do but when deciding don’t write off the RNY, it is so much better than the band.
  18. While I have not had any co plications per se with the lap band, I have not been successful with it. I'm sorry but I don't count losing less tha. 20kgs, gaining back nearly half and maintaining at that for 3.5 years a success story. To be fair, I knew from the word go it wasn't what I should be doing--I originally went in asking for a RNY, but was talked into the band. Big mistake on my part, huge! Should have stood my ground. Now here I am 4 years out from the band and still morbidly obese. I no longer want a RNY, and am revising to a sleeve (which to be honest is the second procedure in a 3 stage DS surgery......hoping I will not have to follow through with the DS next year). When I hear of anyone looking into the lap band, I offer them my experience and tell them to look at all the options carefully before making a decision. For some the band will be a god send, but from what I'm reading, it's usually a nightmare. :-)
  19. It's getting real! Having my EGD and EKG done Friday! I'm having a revision surgery from LapBand to Bypass! I started my low carb diet today! So far it's been easy. With LapBand I had to do a 2 week liquid diet, which sucked! I'm looking for fellow LapBand patients who have had a revision and had success. The band honestly never worked for me. I was 393 when I had the band placed and now I'm at 370 after 6 years. I only have two main concerns with the surgery.. I'm worried about excess skin and dumping syndrome.

    Aetna insurance

A lot of insurances don't cover it. I switched jobs to an employer who's insurance I knew covered it. Since my surgery I have moved and along w that have switched jobs and of course insurance and I'm having issues with complications from my surgery. My new insurance has an exclusion in the policy however the exclusion does not excluded complications from weight loss surgery therefore I'm going to be able to have my revision.
  21. Look for a "EXCELLENT SURGEON" in your state or area. When you look up the Hospitals, Look for whats called "CENTER OF EXCELLENCE'" in Bariatric surgery. A lot of your Ins Companies will require that you go to a Center Of Excellence only ! After you have figured out who you want to go to "people here can give you feedback in your area, if you say were you are from" Give them a call, and you will attend a Orientation. In the meantime check out if your Ins. covers this, or maybe you are self pay? Let your family Doctor know so you can be set up for monthly visits Weigh inns. Your Ins. company could be a couple months of visits or up to 2 yrs. If you are self pay? You will still have to talk to your Doctor to see about tests that you might have had done that are under a year old. The surgeon will set it all up. But you still need to find out so you know what this whole process consists of. I wouldn't suggest Mexico... Because if anything goes wrong ! You have to travel back to the surgeon that worked on you. It can be hard to find a surgeon to re-do someone else's work. I know,, I am going threw that now. My Port or Tube leaks, and I have moved, so I am trying to get this surgeon to look at it, and hope he will re-do the whole thing. That way I can go to him for my fills... There are fill centers to go to, but if you see a surgeon in your area, they will do all your fills. Hope this helps. You will enjoy your journey. I'm sure. Just remember, this is a plastic tool, and it will break in time. So be prepared for Revision or Repair Surgery. It might take years, but eventually things need to be replaced. Welcome to Lap Land. Shirley Banded 10/31/06 Dr Genaw Henry Ford Hospital "Center of Excellence" Michigan
  22. Ok, just trying to get recommendations for WLS surgeons who have extensive experience with revisions. I can't seem to get any response from the office of one well known surgeon in the KC area. Another surgeon has little experience with Sleeves or Revisions. The other surgeon I know of in the KC area I'm not sure I trust due to his NON-STOP t.v. advertisements and infomercials that run every night in the middle of the night with the same people praising high glory to this surgeon's practice. That is a huge turn off for me because since I can't seem to find a way to verify the number of procedures they have done from an objective party, I don't know that I would trust what they did tell me even if it was what I wanted to hear. This could be Lawrence, KS, Sedalia, MO, Columbia, MO or KC of course. Suggestions/ Referrals appreciated.

    My One Worry

Thank you, this is so encouraging! I can't wait until my revision is all done!
  24. Nope, my "secret" goal is right down below, in black and white. My surgeon hasn't given me a goal--though the printouts that come with every weigh in have me around 128-ish. My goal is lower--for a number of reasons. I am open to revising it if I reach a weight where I'm comfortable sooner. But for reasons unrelated to appearance I really want to get as low as possible. (I have orthopedic stuff that really does benefit from weighing as little as healthily possible.)
  25. I am miserable with this band....I want a revision to bypass.I have Horizon NJ Health. What is the process for approval..I have gained all the weight back, acid reflux, hiatal hernia,PCOS,post breast cancer, pre diabetes, high cholesterol...lithe list continues....I have Horizon NJ Health mercy. Sorry I meant band to RNY!!!!!
