    Strictures post sleeve!!

To be quite honest, you can cycle through all the prescription ppis until you hopefully find something that works, but at the end of the day if nothing works and you continue to reflux the only option is to revise to Gastric Bypass. It's mess to be honest and my acid reflux is slowly going out of control si in a couple of years if none of the meds work I will need a third wls. For now if you're not on prescription meds for acid reflux get your hands on some asap.

    Pain near old port site

I am a little over two weeks post-op from hernia repair and band removal to gastric sleeve revision... I am experiencing constant burning pain where the port was. The incision is healing great, it's definitely coming from the muscle underneath. It's worse when I move certain ways for sure but it is there to some degree all the time. It is driving me crazy. Any suggestions or pain relief solutions?

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?

My revision to the sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair were all done the same day. No issues yet.
  4. True, you can't avoid the GERD but it can be most likely resolved by a third revision to RNY. GL
  5. Ok one day this band has to come out. If the band removal and revision is done in 2 stages then the removal surgery will inurr adhesions too. Does it matter if now at bmi 33 or at bmi 36 or 37? Scar tissue is formed all the time, the longer i wait the more scarring will be done. Acid reflux can be avoided by conversion to rny.
  6. You have to consider if the risk of a revision is worth it. Revisions are far more riskier due to the scar tissue formed by the band and adhesions from previous surgery. Also as a revision your at a higher risk for severe acid reflux.

    Strictures post sleeve!!

Hoping the best for you, revisionsare far far more risky. I was a revision as well and its not beena tough road as yours, but the future may not bode so well

    Strictures post sleeve!!

Yes, I had the same problem. I was a band to sleeve revision as well and had a lot of problems with the band. I failed the emptying test twice post sleeve with that nasty liquid they made you drink. It turned out there was just a lot of inflammation from the lap band. I spent five days in the hospital and had to slowly heal. I couldn't tolerate liquids for three days. It will all work out. Just give it time.

    Not losing

I'm finally back to the weight I was at before I went into the hospital -- my pre-surgery weight. It took 5-days. Everything from here on in is new weight lost. Given that I'm not particularly active yet, it's OK if things don't move all that quickly -- although I hope they do. Time will tell. Band to RNY revisions don't lose as fast and I've accepted that.
  12. Hi There! RevIsed to RNY April 11th and suffering from gas pains. I've been walking taking g gas-x and using a heating pad. Nothing is helping. Any other suggestions?? I'm pretty desperate.

    April surgeries

Hello everyone my revision from sleeve to RNY was April 11th. Everything went well. Pain was controlled very well. At no point was it intolerable. I came home Thursday evening. My biggest problem is gas. My stomach and back is filled with gas and nothing's moving it. I've been walking taking gas-x using heating pad. Nothing is working. Just sent my hubby to the drug store to grab mylacon drops and hope maybe that will help. Any suggestions on the gas?. Silly me put on a sports bra to go to the store to grab protein water and the darn sports bra ripped the glue right out of the incision between my breast. It look like it will be ok but I asked my hunny to grab some steri strips as well. I don't know what the heck I was thinking. Thought since it wasn't a wire it would be ok.
  14. I was revised to the sleeve about a month ago. Got banded 2009. I immediately have noticed a tremendous difference between the two. I have immediately began losing weight. You literally can't hardly eat and don't really want to......AFTER THE POST OP liquids PHASE OF STARVATION HELL.........but that's only about 2 weeks. As soon as you hit puree or soft foods it is crazy how little fills you up. With the band you had to guess if you were in the green zone and get 50 adjustments just to hopefully get full. The sleeve IS the green zone. So much easier and you're not a slave to those damn fill appointments. Soooo much better. Oh, if you eat too much or too fast you can get sick and feel a little "stuck" but not like you are being strangled by your food like the band. Others have thrown up....not me....and you CAN get dumping syndrome if you eat something too fatty or sweet. I have experienced that a couple of times. Sweaty, flushed, rapid heartbeat, nausea, diarrhea. No fun. But that's rare and STILL better than fearing each bite will choke you and slime. This is just what I have experienced so far. Hope it was useful to you.
  15. I am having surgery on the 17th for revision of sleeve to roux n y. I made this quick decision on wed the 12th. Lots of medical issues for me....and my surgeon thinks this is the best option for me. I have been through tests since this January. Had GERD so bad that it was causing erosion of the esophagus. I have early signs of Barretts Esophagus, a hiatal hernia and 24 hr ph test of 163.2 (normal is 22 or below). Staying on Nexium was not an option. She said I needed to do this surgery. I have been on liquids since wed when I decided to do this surgery. She was able to get an operating room for Monday since she didn't want me to wait till end of June when her next surgery date was open. I'm scared since this is being rushed. I love my sleeve. I know what my portions are. Now I have to start over.
  16. I have GERD too....and Barrett's Esophagus. Biopsies came back negative. I saw my doc on wed to go over my 24 hr acid test and barium swallow. She says with everything going on, I need to revise my sleeve to a roux n y. she will also be repairing my hiatal hernia and doing surgery near my esophagus. I only had from wed till next Monday's surgery to grasp the concept and be emotionally prepared. She was booked solid till end of summer for surgery but had an opening for surgery next Monday. she didn't want me to wait and suffer any longer, which is why I am having surgery on Monday. I love my sleeve because I know how much I can eat. I'm nervous about my stomach getting much smaller.

    Nervous

I'm a little confused. Do you already have a sleeve and are thinking about a revision?
  18. i'm 64 and I just had revision surgery (band to bypass), on Monday. I can't say that I feel great, because I don't. I feel sore and tired, but I'm going to go outside and take a walk in a few -- my bowels haven't kicked in since surgery and moving is the best way to get things back to normal again. I'm also slightly nauseous, but I plan on waiting until tomorrow to see if the nausea lasts before I call my doctor for anti-nausea pills.

Gaining weight after 250+ lb loss since 2008

Thanks, Bayougirlmrsc. It's good to know someone else who has kept the weight off for so long with the band. I'm sorry you had to have yours removed and it sounds like you have a great outlook which I'm sure will help you stay where you are. Needtorecover, I have changed insurance since my surgery so I am working with a different doctor now, but I have been under the care of a bariatric doctor the whole time. I've been checked for slippage several different times and I'm fine. I do have a bit of erosion but not enough that it is causing these problems. I did have a revision surgery about 5 years ago to correct a leak in the port/tubing. Once I got that fixed my band went back to working like a champ.

Gaining weight after 250+ lb loss since 2008

Have you talked to your surgeon? They would be best equipped to handle any weight gain issues. I'm only 1.5 years out so I can't say I've had reflux issues... do you eat small meals? Chew really well? I'd have your band checked for problems like dilation or a slip or erosion. If there's a problem like that the surgeon can probably do a revision, right?
  21. Hello! I was sleeved too on 3/28, it was a band to sleeve revision and I also had a HH repair.

    Sleeve to Bypass REvision

I also need a revision, kind of worried about it I have GERD, and sleep apnea. I also have damage to the esophagus I already did all the tests that needed to be done to show I have this issue. I meet with my surgeon at the end of this month so he can discuss the revision procedure and give me a date. Anyone had the revision? How was your experience and is the weight loss slower?
  23. Years done the road, I developed acid reflux, which damaged my esophagus, and I also suffer from sleep apnea. My heartburn is horrific. I also have a hiatl hernia, my surgeon wants me to have a revison to a gastric bypass. I am not sure if I would do it? Anyone here needing a revision?

    Mini gastric bypass

I have read of people who have done the mini gastric bypass because of reflux with their sleeve. There are 2 groups of fb for people with mini gastric bypass and they could answer your question better there. Join the groups. I had a band and I just did revision no MGB.

    one month post op

I can't believe it has been a month since my revision surgery. What a month it has been. This recovery was so much harder than when I got my lap band. I lost 9 inches and 26 pounds since my pre op liquid diet. I got sick 2.5 weeks post op! OMG that was so horrible! To have to cough with my stomach still recovering was really bad. I had a burning sensation over my largest incision that would bring me to tears. My surgeon told me that the burning was most likely do to a nerve that was caught in a suture and that it would go away once my sutures dissolved, which could take 3 months. If I couldnt take it he said we could do a nerve block! ummmm no! Literally the day after that appointment the burning stopped and has never returned!!!!! I started back in the gym per his orders. I was only released to do cardio so i'll do that the first week and slowly add in weight training. All in all this has been a kinda rough recovery, but I dont regret it!!!
