  1. Drop the hummus, yogurt and granola. Increase your calories to 1000 to 1200. Increase your Protein to 90g. It sounds like you are eating clean but your are eating a decent amount of low to no protein junk. Dump that stuff at 3 months you don't have room for all those extras. The first time I had hummus post-op was at 15 months and I had 2 tablespoons at a resturant on a date. I only have extras when I have met or exceeded my protein goals.
  2. Yeah! Good luck! We can do it! Wow, Jim! Thank you for that complement! I just kind of unloaded! Glad it inspired! Also that. Carbs are EASY and EVERYWHERE! Well put. I mean, they're also way cheap too. So unfair. (Now I'm just going to pout!) I am sure that the people that get "behavior fatigue" far outnumber the people that don't. More power to them! The rest of us need a little extra push, I think. I think I personally needed a LOT of extra pushes! But I am nothing if not stubborn! I eat too much dairy to get that low I think. Haha. Om nom dairy! If I absolutely had to, I could definitely do it, but yeah I am right there with you. Even once I get to goal, I will ALWAYS have to keep the carbs down if I want continued success. This year has proven that to me. Anna, don't get TOO depressed. Yes it is work. But it's much easier for us than other people. Everything that I did wrong this year I did because of things in my head. My stomach was trying to think FOR me, but my head wouldn't let it. Can you imagine? Keep working and you won't have to worry at all! Tinanne, thanks for commenting. Don't beat yourself up TOO much. Everyone deserves a bite of frosted cherry pie now and then. If you're keeping on plan otherwise, it should NOT be a deal breaker. Your stall may have nothing to do with that. If it breaks soon, I think it's probably just part of the natural ebb and flow that happens to our bodies after WLS. If your carb indulges increase, and your stall lasts longer than a typical stall does -- a couple months at most?, then I'd say you need to make a change or two. That's what I did wrong. I just told myself I wasn't in control. It was just a REALLYLONGSTALL and had nothingwhatsoever to do with my increasingly poor eating habits. Hahaha. That car didn't stall! That car drove itself over a cliff bar and straight into mashed potato heaven! I have learned now that I can no longer delude myself like that. It's all about balance. Be honest with yourself and you'll do just fine! I know the oft-repeated word on these forums is that every surgeon and dietician has different rules/philosophies and that you should follow what your doctor has said. But I'm also all about a second opinion. It may be worth it to talk to a different dietician/nurse or even a hotline that your insurance company may have. I only I know what works for me and carbs ARE NOT IT. Here are a few things that are on the no-no list from my dietician: grains (rice, corn, wheat, oats, even quinoa which is not technically a grain) and all grain-products (any grain-based flour, corn chips, bread, Pasta, pastry) anything with more than 9g of sugar per serving (yogurt is a big culprit, read those labels!) including honey/syrup dried fruit, peanuts, cashews (all other nuts are fine, I was told these are too carby!) white potatoes, sweet potatoes Beans of any kind including lima beans and peas (not including green beans/sugar snap peas) One I got a little farther out, she said I could have the occasional: steel cut oats, black beans, quinoa, sweet potato, wonton wrappers (up to 2 at a time, which i used to make toasted tuna melt-type lunches) I was told that fatty foods are fine and you only really want to start cutting those out if you have trouble getting close to goal/maintenance. For example she told me mayo is better than ketchup as a condiment (Duke's mayo has NO SUGAR and is one of the only ones on the shelf that has no sugar, if not THE ONLY one.) She told me to buy the tuna packaged in oil instead of Water. Eat full-fat cheeses, enjoy a slice or two of bacon, etc. If you're looking for a more thorough list, I would DEFINITELY recommend checking out the list of allowable and prohibited foods on the 21-day sugar detox by Diane Sanfilippo. At certain levels she allows dairy. That's the level you want to look at. I ignore the whole "organic, pasture raised, antibiotic free, whatever whatever" guidelines simply because I cannot afford that! She also doesn't allow for sweeteners or Protein supplements which I also ignore. Other than those little quirks, it's similar to what a post-bariatric diet would often consist of. Only it's not 21 days for us. It's kind of forever! Also! Thanks to both @ & @@mi75 for the encouragement!

    Caloric intake goals?

The only "food" I can have until week 5 is applesauce (yuck), sugar-free Jell-O and pudding (yuck), and fat-free yogurt with no fruit pieces in it. I'd murder for some cottage cheese 4 more days!
  4. 35 pounds in 3 months is WONDERFUL. You should be very, very proud of that. I never EVER lost over 10 pounds a month consistently, and I imagine it is the same for you, so it is a great job there! Please don't feel so discouraged. Your body is going to lose weight exactly as fast as it wants and comparing yourself to others' loss or some arbitrary number you or even your doctor decided is no realistic. As long as you're doing things correctly - getting in your Protein, calories, Water, and moderate movement/exercise - then you're going to be fine. I also suggest you take a tape measure and check things like arms, waist and hips. The scale can't tell when you're losing fat and gaining muscle, and muscle is much leaner and less bulky than fat, so you may be exchanging fat for muscle and not seeing movement on the scale, but still making good progress. If your clothes are fitting differently, that is a great sign, but measurements are much more encouraging when the numbers on the scale aren't moving fast enough. Finally, slow loss isn't the end of the world. I was a slower loser and while I am seeing the hangy skin (darn it), it's not as bad as I would have expected since I lost slower and allowed my skin more time to adjust. The only things I'd suggest is watching things like hummus and other high fat foods. At this point for you, you should be optimizing everything you eat towards protein and then if there is any bit of room after eating your protein portion, eat high Fiber veggies. Small amounts of fat are good, but they shouldn't be the main part of your meal. And also, don't continue to eat over several hours and add larger portions because you can eat them if you take longer, that is eating around your sleeve's restriction. Meal time should be about 15-20 minutes total, and once you've eaten something like 3 ounces of protein and if there is room after consuming all the protein, go for 1-2 ounce of veggies, but stop if you get any type of full sign (mine is burping. Sigh). And no drinking for 30 minutes after eating (and no drinking during eating either - washes food down faster). If you need a snack in a few hours, then have a cheese stick or small yogurt, but don't eat more just because you can.
  5. Perhaps you could restart by going on a two-week liquid diet. Protein shakes would be good for that. The best protein source I know is chicken breast. Four ounces (about 113 grams) of chicken breast has 32 grams of protein. If you ate that, or something similar, twice a day, you would be very close to your protein goal of 70 to 90 grams. Have beef or turkey Jerky and cans or pouches of tuna or chicken stashed in your purse or car. Also, hard-boiled eggs make a nice snack. For breakfast, Greek yogurt is really tasty and the kind I get has 12 grams of protein per serving. Two scrambled eggs will get you about 14 grams of protein. Make sure you stop eating carbs like bread, Pasta, rice, and anything with sugar in it. Always eat your protein first, followed by vegetables and fruits. Last thing, be sure you are consuming 64 ounces (about 2 liters) of Water daily. Protein and water, protein and water, protein and water. It's becoming my mantra! Good luck! 6. Hey there everyone, I'm currently about 3 months post op VSG and I had my surgery on September 19th. My highest weight ever was 310 pounds about 3 years ago. I started my pre-op liquid Optifast diet at 285 pounds and was on it for 3 weeks, got down to 265 on the day of surgery, and I'm now 230 pounds 3 months out. So I've only lost 35 pounds since my actual surgery. I'm feeling quite discouraged because I feel this is a very slow loss for someone 3 months out. With regards to my eating habits, I weigh absolutely all of my food and am consistently getting between 60-80grams of Protein and anywhere from 600-850 calories a day. I can eat a little bit more than I could a few weeks ago, and I can get in about 3oz of lean protein in one sitting. However I can eat about 5-6oz of food spread out over a few hours. So sometimes I'll weigh out 4oz of meat and 1-2 oz of veggies with some cheese or hummus and eat that over 3-4hours to make sure I'm getting in enough protein in a day. I do this because I'm trying to get all my protein from food and not have to rely on Protein shakes or bars anymore. Occasionally I will have a Protein Bar occasionally and I usually add protein granola to my yogurt. Some things that I eat on a regular basis are greek yogurt, hummus, cheddar cheese, almonds, beef Jerky, chicken, beef, eggs occasionally, and vegetables like broccoli or brussel sprouts. When it comes to Water I'm getting in about 1 - 1.5 liters a day. Also, here is my fitnesspal where I've been logging everything I've been eating everyday for the past 2.5 months since I started pureed foods: scale Any support would be great, thank you!
  7. I'm 9 months out. But, I have Multiple Sclerosis and I can relate (a little) at least with a few things. The medication your on alone can cause weight gain, it sucks but not a lost cause. I'm sure any excersises are fine. As long as you listen to your body and take it easy. Gosh! You have been through a lot! I'll keep you in my prayers. As far as a meal plan? Two years out? 600 calories? I eat a cup in a half at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have two Snacks in between. It goes something like this. breakfast ( lunch (L) dinner (D) snacks (S) ( oatmeal w/ walnuts and honey, a boiled egg. (S) 1/2 cup low fat yogurt. (L) A lettuce wrap with turkey, tomato, thinly sliced chili pepper. (Because I like a little spice) Low fat mayo sometimes but, mostly some mustard. (S) cheese and Almonds. (D) Homemade chicken Soup with papaya, ginger, spinach and rice. (I save the broth for 45 minutes after I eat the chicken, papaya, ginger and spinach.) ( Two cups of coffee w/creamer and almond milk. (S) Pear w / Peanut Butter. (L) (Baked) 1/2 a chicken breast, cut up in cubes, roasted eggplant. (S) Whole Wheat crackers, spinach/artichoke hummus. (D) Salmon, Quinoa, and (my salad) lol, it's a salad I eat all the time. Expecially if I'm still hungry after dinner. Or whenever I still feel like I'm starving! It consists; Fresh...Spinach, purple onions and green onions cut up, cilantro, mint leaves, pepper (thinly sliced), bean sprouts. These are a few things to eat. I hope I gave you some ideas. If I missed anything specific you wanted answers to, let me know. I'll try to help. Good luck and best wishes! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using the BariatricPal App

    Back at it!

It helps me to use My Fitness Pal and track everything. Remember to eat Protein first and allow 30 minutes after you eat before you drink Water. Stock up on low fat and fat free Proteins. When I'm starving (in my head) I eat plain yogurt or cottage cheese or drink hot tea. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16
  10. Genepro is my go to. Mixed in thin cold drinks for me doesn't work. I love it in hot tea with milk and sugar. It mixes well in V8 or tomatoes juice. I put it in eggs, oatmeal and yogurt too.
  11. I really like GENEPRO. It has really helped me get my Protein in and dissolves is most things from flavored waters to yogurt. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. My surgeon doesn't recommend counting calories, just making sure I'm getting 60-70g Protein and 64 oz Water a day. I've been tracking my input with MFP and I'm very curious how many calories other folks are consuming after surgery. Most days I'm between 400-500 calories (basically I have one Protein Drink and two Oikos Triple Zero yogurts a day) and I'm 3 weeks out from RnY.

    How much are you consuming?

I'm 7 weeks out and my NUT has us eating 5 mini-meals a day. I try to drink at least 1/2 Premier Protein shake (5.5 oz) in the morning. Second mini-meal has some type of meat (chicken, meatball, lean lunch meat) - 1 1/2 oz with 1/4-1/2 multi-grain or fruit serving . Third meal might be a cheese stick, Parmesan crisps, hummus or yogurt dip with cucumber slices, with 1/4 - 1/2 multigrain or fruit serving. Fourth meal is supper at home - 1 1/2 oz of meat (chicken, pork, etc) and some type of veggie - 1/4 cup and Fifth meal is the rest of my premier Protein Shake or glass of Fairlife milk.

    I don't get it.

Accountability is something so many people lack. We are a population where most of us (not all) have had poor relationships with food as well as other aspects of our lives. Many might say out loud that they are ready for a change but deep down they are scared. For some weekly therapy should be for at least 6 months both pre and post op because the food issues could run really really deep. Sometimes it is the person who signed off on the surgery who never actually checked the mental health notes who could be at fault. Sometimes it is the patient who lied to get the surgery, pretending to be ready when they know they are not. Since my surgery a couple weeks ago I have had some monster cravings and I sipped my water and ate my strained clam chowder (they gave me strained clam chowder at the hospital the day after surgery along with yogurt and pudding), I thought to myself as I craved a grilled cheese sandwich what goes with it and I happily ate my tomato soup with a sprinkle of cheese. Not everyone has the same level of problem solving skills and some will sabotage themselves, and some might even make up a story or two for the sake of attention. I look at it as if someone signs up and within an hour posts about eating a slice of pizza with in a week of surgery and they have never posted anything before, I will question the source then walk a way from it, it just sounds too fishy to me.

    THREE THINGS / Just Sleeved

    1. Rest. Body is going through some major changes and it has to adjust. Don't try to "speed up" process of weight loss at this point. 2. Don't overstock with "dated" pureed foods, ie yogurt. I threw out soo much cuz I just wasnt hungry and once I graduated to solids I needed change. 3. YOU MORE THAN LIKELY WILL HAVE SOME STALLS in the near future. Your body is teying to catch up, maybe trying to store cals, what little fat you take in ect. cuz it hasn't realized your not starving. So don't starve yourself. I know you asked 3, but here's number 4 4. To weigh my food. When i was going thru my stall (2weeks fluctuating 3 lbs, ugh), I bought pocket scale and am faithful to weigh my food. Try it. Went to head shop and got cheap. They couldn't believe i was weighing my food. Lol. 3. Sent from my SM-J700T1 using the BariatricPal App

    Weight gain...getting depressed :(

So sorry you are going thru this. That was a lot of weight to lose initially so maybe your body is just adjusting now. Can you have yogurt or cottage cheese yet? How about Soup from panera bread-the butternut squash soup is good. How did those foods you ate sit in your stomach? Maybe you are not getting enough food in you and your body is in starvation mode and holding onto weight. I know when I get hungry I feel like I will eat anything. Sounds like you are getting too hungry which leads to poor choices. Try sugar free Popsicles when you want a treat. Good luck and hope things start to improve for you. Extreme fullness

I was on full liquids (which included Protein shakes, Jello, pudding, greek yogurt) from the day after surgery. I could only eat or drink an ounce or so for the first week, and if I sipped or ate too fast, I was MISERABLE... and the surgeon said that was completely normal. As the swelling and inflammation in the sleeve from the surgery resolved, my tolerance got better. By a month post-op I could eat about 1/4 cup at a time and drink normally. Now at a little over 3 months post, I can eat a tad more than 1/4 cup of really soft things (yogurt consistency) but meat still sits heavy and I can't eat very much at a time.
  22. in sweden u dont need to drink clear liquid. it's just need to be smooth liquid so u can eat Soup yogurt everything that's its smooth. week one week 2 u start whit masht food.. it's so different everything here compared to US. Good luck opie Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Breakfast?

i'm pretty boring with my breakfasts. I generally rotate through greek yogurt, cottage cheese and egg bites. For the egg bites - think crustless quiche baked in mini muffin pans. 2 sometimes 3 of those make a breakfast for me. I change up the veggies and meat added to them for variety.
  24. One ounce of chicken cubes, one ounce of cheese cubes and one ounce of mixed nuts = 27 grams of carbs. I found 4oz containers at the dollar store. Perfect size for cottage cheese, tuna salad and yogurt. costco sells chicken salad in small tubs. They are really tasty. Depending on your carb restriction you might be able to have low fat crackers with you Protein. I have 4 once in a while. I look forward to being able to tolerate more raw vegetables. Always have Water on hand to sip between solids so you get in all you need I find that I lose weight faster if I have at least 64 oz of plain water in addition to any other liquids I drink. I keep bags of 20 unsalted almonds in my desk to have on hand for caterer meetings. We have lots of them! It's nice to have something to crunch on while everyone eats danish. And small bottles of diet Snapple are a nice treat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App First thing is 27 grams of protein not carbs! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sharing My Post-Op Diet Plan

My doctor is very detailed oriented that's for sure. What were you allowed to have during your first week? Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App Just liquids. I'm starting week 3 tomorrow, and I am finally allowed to start on some softer foods. I have tried mash potatoes, greek yogurt, and chicken, and Beans already. Happy to report it all went well. I can't have more than one teaspoon at a time though. Or else just like a little baby it gets stuck, and I may have to get it up again. (disgusting)
