We Need To Shout With Joy!

Great idea Margo! Here's my list: 1. I can get down on the floor at my son's school to help him with his boots and not worry about being able to get back up again. 2. I can hug my husband without bending at the waist to get my arms around him. 3. I'm more easygoing. Life just seems easier when it doesn't take as much effort to do the little things. 4. I don't obsess about my next meal. 5. I don't feel guilty about indulging my cravings because they have been drastically reduced and I won't be able to eat much anyways. 6. Like Cindy, I also take way more time with my appearance now. 7. My hubby was always attracted to me, but now... it's just better all around. 8. People are always telling me how great I look. That hasn't happened in years! 9. I can sit in the captain's chairs at the end of my kitchen table. I remember buying the table two years ago and thinking how dumb it was to spend money on chairs I couldn't fit into. 10. I don't feel like I ran a marathon after climbing the stairs. 11. I can shop at plus size stores again (I was out of 3X shirts at my highest so catalogs were my only option). 12. I eat less than my Mom!! She has always been small. She's always talking about how she eats 1/2 piece of toast for Breakfast and then is too full for lunch... Wahahahahahah!! Don't mistake me - she's an awesome mom and I love her dearly, but it still feels good!
  2. Hello i used Dr Jeffery Strain and Dr Ibraham out of Englewood Hospital 97 Engle St Englewood NJ phone #201-227-5533 he is great surgery date was 10/22/08 15 lbs down ....
  3. I was banded on October 22nd, and since then I have spent much time on this site finding answers to my questions, but until now, I have never had the guts to post a thread... I have 6 ccs in a 10 cc band. My surgeon has been rather aggressive with me. I have only lost 19 lbs. since the surgery (including the pre-op diet.) My question in this: I PB .....ALOT!! Almost every meal, and I wonder, is that because I am not chewing enough or could it be that my stomach is just full?? (I never get the same full sensation that I use to pre band.) And can this be a reason for the slow weightloss?

    Curves

I've been going to curves since 3 weeks post op.I have to say it has made a big difference. I was banded 11/07 and have only lost 60 lbs but I have gone down 10 pant sizes from 28 to 18 and my dr tells me I lost 50% of my body fat. I know that the curves workout is a big part of that. Also the clientele is great- there are all kinds of women there some old, young, fat and thin. I have found all of them to be really supportive and none of that competitiveness that is so common at other gyms. I highly recommend Curves.
  5. I'm 10 days out and that normal as swelling goes down..............

    Stomach acid

This might sound like a dumb question but does anyone know when the stomach after having the sleeve starts to only produce enough acid for our little tummies, or perhaps it just keeps producing at normal rate??? I still have a little reflux at 10 mths, never had it prior just in my throat...
  7. My diet during my 3 months of visits with the NUT consisted of 3 meals, with 3 oz of lean meat, veggies and a fruit. No snacking between meals, but was allowed a glass of milk 3 times a day, and I supplemented one of those with some Protein powder. I'm down 40 lbs (little over 10% of my TBW) since my first NUT visit in January. My bariatric center didn't make me lose weight, but they wanted me to start changing my lifestyle so I'd be successful after surgery. I say any diet will work for you, as long as you are determined to make it work! Good luck

Vitamin Deficiency, 13 years post op

My family doc also does my bloodwork. She wondered which tests I needed and I said, "I can google it for you" and she said, no.. she could get the list. She went out, and came back 10 minutes later with a comprehensive list. So they do have access to these things (or at least mine does). I was short on Vitamin A and D. With all your symptoms, it sounds like it is a given that you're needing some things. Please talk to your doctor about getting that bloodwork done every year. If they refuse, you need a new doctor. Since you are a bariatric patient, insurance companies understand the need for these tests. Hope you can get sorted out soon!

    I need some splaining....

Yes it does sound like that first bite thing. I take my first bite and wait 10 or 15 minutes. This is hard for me but I have been working on it. I try not to wait until I am so hungry either. I cut things up really small and chew the heck out of it. I have learn to enjoy the flavor of food more and not the full feeling. Good luck and chew, chew, chew and chew some more. HA Ha

Surgery Date Is June 6!! Should I Tell Family??

Sorry about the lack of info- i was on my iPhone, and I am SO BAD at typing on it! So I am the youngest of 5 girls in an Irish Catholic family. I have 45 first cousins, 18 of us are double cousins (My mom's two sisters married my dad's two brothers). We Celebrate with food. We celebrate food. Hahaa. We are very close. We share everything. But, I am also a 24 year old married mother of two under 2 years. When I am around my family, I feel like its ok that I'm overweight. It's normal. When I am at home with my husband and two girls, I want better for myself, and them. Here are my thoughts: WHY I SHOULD TELL THEM: 1. We live 10 minutes apart, and see each other at least 3 times a week 2. It would be easier to tell the truth than to try to keep covering up a lie 3. It is so hard to keep something so big from my parents/sisters-- guilty conscience and all lol 4. They will be able to help me succeed, by not tempting me with unhealthy food at family gatherings or trying to get me to "grab seconds" or "have dessert" 5. Maybe I can motivate my other overweight sisters to get WLS and be healthier!! This is probably the biggest motivator for me. Three of my sisters are overweight, one just had a baby and is having complications from her obesity. She doesn't have the resources I have to even know about WLS. If I told, maybe she would start considering WLS too! WHY I SHOULDN'T TELL THEM: 1. My husband doesn't really want me to 2. I am the first in my ENTIRE family to ever do something like this- not sure they would understand 3. Word would spread. Sometimes I think my sisters and parents would support me, but I don't want to trust 15 people with my secret, or the entire family would know 4. I feel like I should be able to have some privacy in my personal life 5. When my daughter's are old enough to understand, I don't think I want them to know I had WLS 6. I DO NOT want my in-laws to know, and they are close with my family. Right now, my family believes that the surgery I am going in for is an Incisional Hernia Repair on my C-section scar. If I don't tell them the truth about getting WLS, my plan is to tell them that I took the hernia surgery as a 'jump-start' for dieting. Is this completely nuts, or what? Feedback please!
  13. I just had plication and have had some issues with loose stool and constipation but not the same day. I too am getting used to how much food is enough and have vomited a few times which worries me as I've heard it can lead to stretching the stomach. I'm 10 days post op and have only lost 11 lbs. There is another lady that just posted on the forum this afternoon and it sounds like she's got this down to a science already. She's lost 34 lbs in 17 days and said nothing about feeling sick in her post. Perhaps she can be of some help. Good luck!
  14. At least yummy to me. I have been having so much trouble drinking those Protein drinks after surgery. Tonight I went to Walmart and came across Odwalla Protein Monster chocolate protein. A serving is 8 oz and had 18 grams of protein. Downside is the serving size is large and it has 25 grams of sugar but for an occasional treat, it was not too bad. I think I could even beef it up with one of the premade whey shakes and it would still taste good. My other is for the coffee lover. This one could be warmed up or put on ice. Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappuccino. There is 10 grams per 8 oz serving but again, lot of sugar. Damn...didn't see all the sugar till I got home though I did note that they are from apple juice and organic cane juice. I was way too excited over the protein. I found both a Walmart in 1 qt containers by the orange juice section. I think I will call the company and see if they make a sugar free version.

    New to the club.

Hello Danny! My name is Dominique, I am new here too! I'm 19 years old and had the sleeve done April 29th. I was required to do the two week diet. It was hard. Seeing as it's not a requirement, I suggest you try to start limiting your food intake and try to transition into soft foods as that's what you need to eat 2 to 3 weeks after. It was hard for me and honestly still is! I kept waiting till last minute to stop eating junk and now that I am recovering, it's hard to not eat all the food I use to haha. I've lost about 17 pounds so far which is great! I have my grandmother already getting me clothes as gifts for when I go down sizes. Lol. If you ever need someone to talk to about changing eating habits or need some support you can always come and message me! I wish you the very best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

What to expect from my 1st fill

I got my first fill last Thursday, 07/01/10. It doesnt hurt at all. They put me on the table, laid me back. He felt for the port then swabbed & cleaned the area with hibiclens. He gave me a shot numb the area then inserted the needle for the fill. He let the nurse know the measurements for where my port was located, then filled it with how ever many cc's. He then had me sit up (with the needle still inserted, didnt hurt at all) and had em drink some water to ensure it went down with ease, it did. That was it. He pulled out the needle and put a bandaid on. The pain is less than getting a blood test, that simple. The whole thing probably took 3 minutes total from prep to finish. So, nothing to worry about.
  17. I agree with previous poster it's hard to define what they consider furniture moving: a 300 pound dresser or a 10 pound coffee table. I recently cleaned my carpet and was moving furniture around all day. I was EXHAUSTED.

  19. I'm new (obviously) I've already spoken with my insurance co. and they pay 90% after the deductible is met, yay! Now, just to get started. I have an appointment the beginning of June for the initial consultation? - And I go to the required seminar at the end of June. All I really know so far is the mostly common BMI of 35 + 1 or more co-morbidities or a BMI of 40. And I was told that there is something about losing 10% prior to the surgery but clearly not to start that until after the actual weigh in. Anyone have any advice or experience they could share with me? Thank you! J

Spouse not on board with WLS

I believe that the "just eat less and move more" approach has like a 95% failure rate when it comes to anything more than about 20 lb. but sleeve surgery fails less than 10% of the time, or something like that. You can google stats. You are the one who lives in your body. Good luck.

    Help! Showers...

No need to use dial antibiotic soap, either unless you have it and always use it. Current research says that it may be best to limit your use of antibacterial soaps unless your doc specifies it (like in Nanook's case)....often bacterial removal is incomplete and it just helps develop super bacteria! So just use your regular soap and routine, avoiding scrubbing or vigorously rubbing your surgical sites. The steri strips will stay on just fine and will eventually fall off on their own (or be so loose you can pull them off easily!) in 7-10 days post op.
  22. Hi there! I had my surgery in March 2019 and I've never regretted it for a second. Your post-op eating plan will be up to your surgeon but almost everyone is back to a regular diet by the six week mark. For me, it was one week of clear liquids, one week of full liquids, then two weeks of soft food and then to regular food, as tolerated. "Regular" is relative though, my surgeon's eating plan is moderately low carb, so no bread, rice, pasta or sweets. I can't lie, the pre-op liquid diet sucked. It was tough but I powered through it (with one slip along the way). The post-op liquid diet wasn't hard for me at all because I had no hunger. I didn't even want food in those first few days. I'm not sure about the protein shake, I buy ready-to-drink, LOL. I've lost 124 pounds, my health is much better, I have my mobility back, I can shop anywhere, I was able to have the knee replacement I needed, my overall quality of life is improved in every way. For me, it's more than worth it. Only you can weigh the pros and cons to decide if it's worth it for you, but it's rare to hear anyone say they regret having the surgery. I wish you well in making the best decision. Hugs. 🤗

Just banded and now found out I have to be in a wedding?!?!

Hey there. Congrats you are doing great. Hold off on ordering the dress until the end of March, average out how much you are losing per month - they say around 8 to 10 per month and go from there.BUT REMEMBER THIS MOST OF THE BRIDES MAIDS GOWNS FOR EXAMPLE A GOWN IN SIZE 14 IS REALLY REGULAR SIZE 10 THEY RUN SMALL TO BEGIN WITH. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE FROM BEING SO MANY WEDDINGS.WORST CASE YOU ORDER ABOUT 2 SIZES SMALLER THEN YOU ARE NOW AND PAY THE ALTERATIONS. I KNOW IT IS COSTLY BUT WOULD STILL BE EXCITING TO GET INTO A SMALLER DRESS.LOTS OF LUCK TO YOU.
  24. @@mermaiddreams I'm 10 days post op I just started them today. I didn't have any issues but I took them 1 at a time waiting a little bit in between and I'm only doing 2 a day for now

    Update

I haven't updated this for awhile. I've lost another 8 pounds! Total 16.5 pounds lost! YEAH!!!! :whoo:I thought I'd never get thru 6 monthly visits with the doctor. Three visits down and three to go. The fourth one is 01/03/2008. The Dr's office has all my paperwork in their hands. . My supervised diet is half done! I don't feel that I have been as successful this month as I was the last two. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm trying very hard to stay within 1200 calories, but some days it is harder than others.:faint: One day at a time.....one day at a time.....It's also the holidays. I know I shouldn't use that as an excuse....I still feel like I've made great accomplishments. I no longer drink pop....wait to drink after my meal....still trying to eat slower and to practice chew, chew, chew. One day all of these things will be second nature. I hope anyways! With the weather changes it makes it harder to walk daily, but I can use On-demand and get the exercise channel to continue working out.
