  1. Thank you for the responses. I see the nurse to talk about diet and nutrition next week. I am a little worried. I have been heavy for many years and I need to get rid of it
  2. You can do it. I am 11 weeks post op and for me the pre op diet was the hardest but you will be so happy in the end!! Prayers going up for you.

    Great Day!

I sure wish I had that much energy at 5 weeks out!! So happy you are enjoying your family more- think of all the fun things to come still!

    Is this a stall already?

What you are experiencing is a very normal, necessary, and natural part of the process. We all experience stalls, especially about three weeks after surgery. This will not be your last stall. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  5. I am 2 weeks out today! I was 281 at my preop testing which was about 2.5 weeks before surgery, I'm 261 today. I lost around 13 lbs the first week after surgery, however the scale has not moved, well it went up a couple pounds, since Monday! Is it really possible to start as stall at 10 days post op? Am I doomed, it's not like anything else I've ever done has worked, maybe this just won't either!? I'm only 5 feet tall so for my weight I really would have thought I'd get a little more out of this than 13 lbs.
  6. Take a deep breath. You are not even close to done losing. Believe it or not you are really not in control of how fast or how slow you will lose the weight that it probably took years to put on. Your body has been through a lot of trauma in the last several weeks and it requires time to regroup and move forward. Weight fluctuates from day to day and week to week. It will come off if you follow the food plan. I promise! Take it from someone who has weathered many stalls, if your weight fluctuations bring you down, you will need to stay off the scale. I am a daily weigher but I have had to learn to only use that number as a barometer to help me stay on track. I also use the way I feel, the way my clothes fit and a tape measure. Also I would not even consider no weight loss a stall until I have not lost anything in 2 weeks. If you want more info about stalls, use the search tool and you will find many posts on the subject. For now, you are doing great! Give yourself and your body a break. You need time to heal both mind and body. Good luck to you!

    Year 1/2 post surgery

My doctor recommended that I take a B complex to help with fatigue. He said that many patients do so much better with fatigue after taking it. Just started so I can't say if it works or not. My 6 months blood tests all came out good, except for elevated alkaline phosphatase, in which I will be having a abdominal CT scan next week to see if anything else is going on. Hope you figure out what is going on soon so you can start enjoying 100% of your new life!
  8. Its frustrating as I pay my dietition $90 for half an hour and non of this was explained about the vitamins.. There was no ongoing education after surgery about nutrition once I got over the 6 weeks post op, I wasn't too bothered though, bc id rather they botch up the after care rather then the surgery... Great full all the went 100% everything else I can handle.. So I've just been researching myself had a personal trainer for a year that also taught me about healthy eating- great protein foods- he was better then my dietitian and I didn't even have to pay him for the dietition advice he did it all in his own time..
  9. Hi all, new to the site! Had a sleeve nearly a year & a half ago, was extremely overweight.. Weighed 130kg prior to surgery, have lost 42kgs in total.. Haven't really had any complications.. The occasional dumping, uncomfortable lying down straight after eating, stomach often makes strange noises at times when eating... Irregular loose bowels, hair loss, feel cold more often, and don't have the desire to really drink... I feel I generally eat quite well, and excercise at the gym 3-4 times a week... Yet still have a fair way to go, idealy I'd like to lose another 20-30kgs... Over the past year I've felt very letharic, sometimes weak, lack of energy, mood changes, lack of concentration & fatigue... It's really quite concerning, I've had numerous blood tests but nothings come up... Always just board line... Low ish Iron, slightly low blood count.. Thyroid is fine.. Blood sugar and cholesterol is fine... I am generally good with taking my Vitamins & try to eat 2-3 pieces fruit a day, with vegetables/meat & or salads... I am trying to encorporate more Protein into my diet, & Water... Having more blood tests next week, has anyone felt like this or has any answers? I wonder if it's malabsorption a as a result of the operation... **future**

    Questions

As far as appointments required, that depends on your insurance plus your surgeon. Both will have different requirements. I have Blue Shield of California and I completed at least 1 Primary Care Doctor appointment, I completed 6 nutrition appointments and 1 psych appointment before they would approve me to see the surgeon (not to have surgery, but only to meet the surgeon. The surgeon would not meet me until I completed all their requirements: 1 orientation class, 1 pre-op class, 1 nutrition/exercise class. Then I had my surgeon appointment and from there I had several medical test appointments. All in all, I probably completed 20 task/appointments so that I could have the surgery. By the way these appointments don't stop once you have the surgery. Aftercare is extremely important to your success with banding. I have an appointment with the surgeon monthly, whereupon I receive a fill if needed. Plus, I do monthly blood work and attend support group appointments. And on top of all that, I still go see my nutritionist. You know the saying it "Takes a Village"? I am counting on the village to help me help myself become successful with this Band. As far as recovery time. Everyone is different. I had complications and stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. I did not feel human until day 7 post op. I went back to my desk job after two-weeks off work. Good luck!
  11. Hey fellow Bandsters....I have a quick question for you fine folks. In my discharge paperwork it states that my steri strips need to be on for 2 weeks and when the two weeks arrive I can remove them. So now here is my question, how many people just let them fall off naturally versus who took them off at the two week point. I'll be two weeks post-op tomorrow and I have no plan to remove them unless there is a chance of the incisions getting infected. I fiddle with the ends and trim them as they release, but other than that, I don't mess with them. You thoughts? G
  12. Two weeks ago I took my grandkids to the beach for the day. This meant I went to the gym at 6 as usual, then into work until 10, then I picked up the kids and took them to the beach. I walked up and down the beach twice, played in the tide pools, had lunch and then back down the beach, and finally home. Somewhere during this process I was sitting in the sun, relaxing for a minute and started to reflect on my life today vs. 6 years ago before I was banded. Just 6 years ago I would have either gone to work or gone with the kids somewhere- not enough energy for both. Four years ago I would have gone to the gym in the morning and probably just taken the kids to the beach. Two years ago I would have gone to the gym, come into work for a bit and taken the kids to the beach. I would have never made it up and down the beach twice. I would have been exhausted by the time we had returned once from the tide pools. This time, approaching my 6th year with a lap band and at 61 years old, I went to the gym, then worked for 2 hours, then took the kids to the beach and walked back and forth on the beach, in out of the surf and the tide pools, up to the restaurant and back, and still had energy to spare. Life is a miracle, my grandkids are blessings, and every day I am grateful for my lap band. If you ‘re early in your journey ,take a moment to think about where you would like to be a year from now. Those who have been on this journey for a while ,take a moment and reflect on what something you are doing today would have been like before you were banded. Let’s share. You can read about this day and my past 6 years banded at Sandi's Banded Living — My Lapband Weight Loss Success Story Please let me know if you find it useful.
  13. Well it's been 5 weeks and today was my first day having a vomiting spell.. Makes me never want to eat again!!!!!!! Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App
  14. Well done! It's a great feeling seeing the scale go down. Every pound counts! I am still waiting for some progress here... I have no idea why I am stalled... tried it all... but patience has been my new friend! =]
  15. If you were like me, you did this because you were desperate to be healthy and needed some help. It took me 6 weeks but finally I am feeling much better. I pushed too hard too soon and ended up back in bed. Just take it easy and hang in there. Be sure you are getting your fluids and if you can't sip even Water or liquid protien drinks be sure to call you Doc. Some people have no problems and some of us take a little longer.

    Overfilled - not fun

Went in for my third fill on Weds. I had made reasonable progress and lost 5 pounds in the month prior (reasonable according to the doc, not me, I wanted more). He asked me if I wanted a fill, and I said yes, a small one. I felt like I was close to the happy spot, but needed just a little bit more. The doc was training a new Physician's assistant, so I think we all got distracted. At any rate, he gave me 2 ccs. My brain registered it as .2cc, but the band definitely thought it was a full 2 ccs. About 7:30 last night, I took a drink of Water, and it got stuck. Oh.. bad sign, I was sure of it. From that point on, through the rest of the night, I was throwing up or PBing my own saliva every 15 to 30 minutes. I'm sure this was the longest night of my life. Got up this morning and headed straight back to the doctor's office (2.5 hours away). I lost 5 pounds overnight. He unfilled me completely and told me to re-hydrate. I go back next week to start all over. ugh Next time, I will pay more attention - do NOT get 2 ccs if you think you are close to the sweet spot.

    Finally Made My Decison!

You have made a great decision. I am almost 4 weeks out and feel great...a little tired here and there but already feeling healthier. I should have done this sooner....weird to watch your body shrink after so many years of expansion (lol)
  18. Hi everyone!! This is my first post, I am scheduled for next Wednesday the 30th of July for my sleeve. I had my Presurgical testing today and am seeing my primary care doc Friday for final clearance. I'm on day 7 of the 2 week liquid diet and I've lost 15 lbs so far! Very exciting to see the scale move down instead of up for once! Anyone else sleeving next week?

    Gym

I started training pre-op to help with the weight loss and to get into a healthier lifestyle. Post-op, my surgeon cleared me for cardio about two weeks after surgery, then cleared me for strength training after a month. I took it very slow to compensate for the decreased calories and surgical recovery. Best of luck on your journey.

    July 30th sleeve!

I am 9 days out... I am glad I did it... but no one told me of the weight stalls. Just be prepared for anything. Things that changed this past week.... 1. SMELLS are exaggerated and some are deceiving. Have a hanky ready if you are in a public place to breathe through. I sat next to a guy eating beef Jerky on the airplane on the way back from hospital. I thought the jerky smelled like road kill. and the stewardess had some awful perfume... the combo was not pleasant! 2. those first days of drinking... a sip means a teaspoon...not a tablespoon... else OUCH 3. prepare for nap time for at least the first 10 days (cause that is where I am at) 4. make sure you have Gas X strips! I took some on the way home from hospital... boy do they help with the gas pains. 5. try to find a couple clear Protein drinks... I like unjury chicken broth... but it is getting old. and Isopure (rightfully nicknamed isopuke) 6. Have some adult liquid Tylenol for when you get home, OR have a way to crush some pain pills. 7. your gauze when you get home... get the kind that doesn't stick to wounds.... learned that the hard way! 8. stock up with your Clear liquids and have a variety. (fruity G2 and Jello... gets old too. ) and get rest! Good luck with your surgery!

For me it's whenver disovlable stitches are gone so I figure about two weeks I'm planning to give it a go at our family reunion which is 13 days out though might use Water proof band-aids just to be extra safe. I'm also planning to just walk around .. nothing hard core.
  22. tomorrow will be my one week since surgery. my follow up appointment is wednesday. i still have that tight feeling in my chest that i felt after surgery when i would try to drink. i do take prevacid in the morning, and im not having any problems getting fluids/protien down. how long does this take to go away? i thought it had eased up the other day, but sitting here now, i can feel it. and i'm not drinking anything at this exact moment. the feeling reminds me of what it felt like when i would overeat with the lapband. any thoughts?
  23. I'm not sure. When I had my last fill (which was just 3 days ago) I was told it should last me for a good while. So I was going to give it another week or so to see if anything changes. What is the pouch test and how do they do that?
  24. Im wanting to start going to the gym tomorrow ... Do you think i can start tanning to i have the glue on my stomach?? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
