    still yet to decide

Hi! I am also 5'11, my high weight was 460. I lost about 50 pre-op, and almost another 100 post op. But I plateaued and then started to regain. I had my surgery in 2012. I'm also having some complications now, I go see a surgeon tomorrow and may be revising to DS. The sleeve was an amazing tool and it really is my fault that I didn't continue to lose with it. I fell wayyyy off post-op diet and then got pregnant. I'm currently still well below where I started at 460, but I want to lose more and since my complication will likely require surgery, I may go for DS as well so I can get back on the losing track! I opted for sleeve initially because I felt it was the best of my options and I knew there was the option to revise to DS if needed. Personally, I would recommend starting with a sleeve as post-op DS is a bit more intense because of the malapsorptive effect it has.

A revision from band to Sleeve

My revision to the sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair were all done the same day.
  3. I am getting the revision from behind to a sleeve. Does anyone know what the time frame and process is to getting this done. I was told first they remove the lap band and then after a month or two they can do the sleeve. I would like to hear if anyone else had this done.

    Weight loss before surgery

Well good luck. Did the lap band not work for you, is that why you are getting a revision and doing a sleeve. I had my lap band on for about 4 years and it didn't hardly work, every time they put fluid in it was to tight, when they took it out no restrictions and I am back at the same weight as I was when I got the lap band. Ughhhh!!! frustrated but looking into getting a revision.

    Weight loss before surgery

I looking into getting a revision of my lap band and going to sleeve. Does anyone know if it was difficult to get insurance approval on this? Also, would be interested in hearing from someone who had this kind of thing done. Having the band and it not working for you.

  8. Has anyone had this particular procedure if so how is it going?. Myself I can tolerate everything and to be t I talked honest I believe I am hungry and Eat more than i"think I should after doing this procedure because I literally am HUNGRY!!!.[emoji36]
  9. I just had my lap band revised to bypass on March 13th. I am 51 yrs and down 52 since October 2016.
  10. I was just reading all of these very kind and compassionate replays to my struggles with the band early on and I wanted to update you all. First of all I just caught the typo where I said in my last post "I'm a tough but to crack" [emoji102] lol! Yeah that was supposed to say nut. Anyway my struggles never really changed. My mind change after a few adjustments to the band and I began a very low carb regime for about a year in 2015. I dropped another 30 lbs! Then my band slipped because of my own poor choices and I gained most of that back. By this point there's been much talk and much proof that the sleeve is s better option for some so I spent the last year or more researching a revision, while suffering with a slipped band. As of last Friday, 4/14/17 I have been converted to the sleeve. Now I'm on a whole new journey but with a lot more life experience and education behind me. And I know I have a great support group of total strangers who actually care enough to take the time to respond during the tough times. Thank you all again!
  11. Hi, I'm having a revision from band to sleeve on may 1st and my doctor wants me to lose 55 pounds before my surgery by doing the optifast liquid diet. I'm terrified I'm not going to reach this goal in 2 weeks and I wanted to know how much people lost if they just did the liquid diet with no cheating. Thanks [emoji4][emoji120][emoji1373]
  12. I don't think there's much to learn from this 4 year old blog. It's pretty obvious that one should get rid of their psychological problems before having surgery. Not only do they stand to mess up (counteract) their surgery but complicate any revision if possible. It takes willpower to transition to that, I just find it easy given the health problems I have and the desire to be healthy again drowning out any voices of wanting to eat crap. One has to treat the addition like life and death and take control of it, not to mention change their mindset about food as something of comfort to something only essential for survival. It's not easy for many people, which is why they go down the road of eating crap early on post-op and wind up screwing up their WLS. Hell, how often do we see alcoholics on the verge of their liver being cirrhotic not stop? Sometimes people are just too far gone to help, and certainly some of those people are here, they won't learn, and they're destined for failure. Addicts also tend to lash out when people confront them with the harsh reality of life decisions.
  13. Writing to give you all an update. I had my band to sleeve revision on April 12. Today is April 17 and I am starting to feel real again. It helps that I am able to add protein back today. My tummy is still sore and swollen, but seems the major soreness is limited to the area where the band and scar tissue were removed. I go back to the doctor on Friday for check up. My intent is to return to work on April 24 which will be 12 days out. I need to get some energy before then. While I do have a desk job, I do have a fair amount of driving between locations. I want to make sure that I am alert enough to handle. Life is good.

    Exercising post op?

I'm a revision from band. I've always been a slow loser. I've lost 26.6 lbs so far including my one week pre op diet. I started at 248.8.

    April 24th surgery

You are due surgery the same day as me. Mine is revision from band to rny. .. I am doing a two week low get low carb diet.. good luck!! Xx
  16. I had my revision surgery done on April 3rd. Doc said I had a lot of scar tissue and spent 45 minutes of the surgery removing it before starting the surgery. I am exactly two weeks out today and still having some pain, mostly at night. I am hoping to start working from home this week, but taking the time to really heal and make this surgery go right. I really want this weight off. Adapting to drinking water and protein takes some getting use to. I think your ability to go back depends on what happens during surgery and pain. Your body will require lots of rest the first week or so, so play it by ear. Go back when your body says it is ready. Don't .t rush.
  17. Just came across this 6 year study on the effectiveness of a revision. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/28347647/?i=24&from=gastric sleeve
  18. These are a lot questions and you will get lots of different answers I guess. I'll try my best though: [What do] you have to give up? Eating a lot while being invited for fancy dinners. That is something I miss but it comes around only occasionally, so I don't regard it a problem. Aside from getting thinner, what else changes in your life? Exercise is more fun again. However, not everyone feels this way. Some people will never have fun exercising and view it as an additional chore that has to be done. I did Martial Arts competitively in my teenage years so I have a history of doing a lot of sports and it felt fine being able to go back there. How long am I away from solid foods? Depends on your program. I had to eat mushy stuff for four weeks. How much can you actually eat once the procedure has settled in? There is a lot of variety. I feel like I could eat quite a lot without feeling uncomfortable quite early after my revision. Are there food that are just gone for good? Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on what you can stomach or not. And does it work almost all of the time? Statistics vary. There is no guarantee. Many people regain everything or at least parts. If it works or not also depends on your definition of success. If you only view reaching a BMI of 21 as a success your chances of being a successful patient are much slimmer than when you view success as reaching a BMI of below 30 or getting rid of co-morbidities.
  19. Hi Georgina, Yes, I had my band to bypass revision in one surgery -- along with getting a hiatal hernia fixed. I'll be a week out of surgery tomorrow and I have to say that it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined it would be. I was given a morphine pump while I was in the hospital for pain and the morphine kept me pain-free and reasonably sleepy (good for rest). I was in the hospital for 2 nights and 2 1/2 days and I came home with Oxycontin pills for pain -- which I only needed for a day or so. I transitioned to Tylenol pretty quickly and starting yesterday, I've been on nothing at all. I'm still pretty wiped out -- the surgery takes the stuffing out of you -- but I go for short walks outside ever day -- each day a bit longer than the last -- and I'm due to go back to work (I have a lot of autonomy over my daily schedule), a week from tomorrow. The all-liquid diet is boring, but necessary in order for the pouch to heal (at least, that's what my surgeon says -- every surgeon is different), and I can either advance to some mushy solids (ie: cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.), this week or next. I'm not saying it's easy, but I have no regrets so far. The weight is coming off however it wants to come off. I actually gained weight between when I went into the hospital for the surgery and when I came home -- water weight from the IV which took a few days to leave my body. I'm now down 5 lbs. from when I went into the hospital, so it's not as though I'm losing fast here. Nevertheless, I knew the weight loss would be slow based on what I read about revisions and I'm OK with that. I plan on being very compliant with what I'm supposed to eat and when and in time, the weight will come off, I"m sure. Good luck -- let me know how you're doing. Bunny
  20. Trying to decide if I pay 19k to have band revision surgery in Toronto or make the trip to Mexico but travelling alone makes me nervous and I don't know if I have anyone I can take with me as my hubby needs to stay home and look after kids. I had had my band surgery I Toronto 8 years ago and that was just as long of a flight. Is anyone from BC travelling to Mexico for sleeve surgery? I'm looking for someone to travel with or to talk to someone who has travelled alone.

  22. Hi bunnyboop... I am due to have band to bypass revision next week...... been waiting a year... did you have it as one surgery. How did it go.. how are you feeling and how quickly is the weight coming off?
  23. I haven't told a whole lot of people as yet, but that needs to change within the next few days. My husband and kids know and 2 close friends know. Now that I've come through surgery in one piece, I need to start telling people. I don't think it's fair to not tell people the truth who ask how the weight is coming off. We all know how desperate we were to find "the key," to losing weight and telling people that we've cut out soda and bread isn't altogether true. We've cut out far more than soda and bread and not telling the truth is misleading, IMHO. I'm a very private person, so "going public," is hard for me. Nevertheless, I don't want anyone wanting to lose weight to cut out soda and bread and think they're going to lose the way I hope to lose (I had a band to bypass revision, so my loss will be slower than yours). For me, it's about being honest and accountable now that I've had the surgery and am starting on this new part of my life. Just my opinion, but there you have it.

    April 10th 2017

I too had surgery on April 10th -- band to bypass. Like you, I'm on a liquid diet, but I can add applesauce, refried beans, plain yogurt, and cottage cheese tomorrow. Like you and especially in the late afternoon and evening, I have cravings for real food, but I try and put it out of my mind and carry on. I have no plans to skip progression. I've spent my life not following directions or skipping steps or not being accountable in terms of the food I put into my body and this time, I'm doing things by-the-book. This way, if things don't go as they're supposed to, I can seek the appropriate help from the dietician, we're both on the same page, and I know I've done my part 100%. I expect I'll lose slower than someone who didn't have a revision, because that's the way it seems to go. I gained weight after surgery, but it was just fluid from the IV. I'm now down 5 lbs, which isn't any great shakes, but I'll take it. Once I regain my strength I plan to start walking 1-2 miles per day either outside or on the treadmill (depending on the weather), and hopefully the movement will help things along. I plan on joining a gym to start weight training as soon as I get the OK from my surgical team. I'm looking for a buddy to go through this with -- let me know if you're interested.
