  2. Hello everyone! If you care to share I would appreciate! I am almost 3 weeks out, and it is time to order some supplements, as my surgeon told me I could start taking them after 4 weeks post surgery. Sadly, his list is basic and he advised me to talk to dieticians, which her respons was you need good multivitamin, calcium and B,D vitamins. In my country there are no specifically VSG vitamins, so I will need to make my own kit and order from abroad. What is your vitamin routine?Dosage? What are the brands, formulations to look for? Should I order Bariatric advantage? Anyone who lives in europe, could you please share where you order your supplements? What is the best supplement for hair? I know that: Calcium citrate is the best form. B12 needs to be Methocobilyn Thank you in advance!

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

I am seeing a surgeon in March about the possibility of revision. Need to have gastroscope before the consult to see what options would be available. He is very experienced in bariatric surgery but I would be his first esg revision.
  4. Hi all, This is my first topic post here. So hi!! Tomorrow I see Dr. Long at the Bariatric and Metabolic Center in Parker, CO for my first consultation. I've been researching doctors and bariatric centers in my area for about 3 months now. I've chosen to look at Dr. Long first because he is highly reviewed on healthgrades.com, Cigna, Yelp, and Google. I think the average comes out to 4.8/5.0 stars with close to 300 reviews. So he sounds pretty decent. His office staff have been really nice any time I have talked to them on the phone. I'm excited and nervous. I've made a fairly good list of questions. I'm going to be self-pay as my insurance does not cover it, and will not even with an appeal. I have asked multiple times in multiple ways. So it's good and bad. I don't have to deal with the headache of insurance and their hoops. I get to have my surgery sooner but am spending a lot of money. I'm lucky in that I have some very supportive friends and family. With only one or two exceptions most everyone has been supportive. Some don't understand, but they ask questions to at least try. How have you guys dealt with family and friends who only focus on the potential side-effects of surgery though?
  5. Thank you for this!! Thatโ€™s what I was hoping. Iโ€™ve been happy so far too with everyone Iโ€™ve had contact with at Blossom and everyone there has been very kind. I did not experience that at the Bariatric center here in MN. ๐Ÿ˜Š good luck to you!! Keep me posted!!
  6. So, I'm taking the Bariatric Fusion vitamins - you take 4 a day, at least 2 hours apart. While I usually space them throughout the day, my NUT said it was OK to take 2 together. So, here's my dilemma - I ran out of vitamins at work, so I took one this AM, then 2 when I got home at 9PM. I won't be awake at 11. I can't decide if I go ahead and take another around 10 to get my 4 in today, or assume its too much too close together so the last med won't absorb? Any advice? thanks! PS - already packed a week's worth of vitamins to take to work tomorrow so this won't happen again.
  7. I am just now starting the Bariatric program for Kaiser in Georgia and have not found anyone who has else who has been through the program for this region. Has anyone been through this for Kaiser in the Atlanta area and if so how did the process go.
  8. Thank you! Iโ€™ll let you know. I paid the 500.00 then my husband had me second guessing doing it at all so now Iโ€™m into the next deductible year also and we switched from bc/bs to medica. I also am paying down the 6200.00 but they never made it clear if thaf was including insurance or that plus whatโ€™s billed. I started at a local Bariatric place here in mpls and they did the same- said I was a foot and a half taller than I have ever been lol. It was like they had no intention of doing the surgery. I went through 6 months of meds, hoops and everything I have tried all these years and only gained and figured blossom was the way to go. Sorry this is so long but I will keep you posted. ๐Ÿ˜Š best of luck !!

    Help!!!

Check out Bariatric Fusion. I was just on their site yesterday and they had 2 of their multivitamins on sale for under $20 for a 30 day supply (120 chewables, 4 a day). There was an orange flavor and a berry. Look under the sale section of their menu. Everything we need except the iron! ~SW: 278 CW: 165~ RNY 1/5/2005 "What got you here won't get you there."
  10. Here is my 7 inch bariatric plate with measurements recommended by my dietitian. I measure and weigh my food.
  11. OMG, yes! I was just looking at possible causes for me to have to go to the toilet 6 or 7 times a day with loose, foul I've found an article about diarrhoea after RNY and it says a lot of people uncover an previously unidentified lactose intolerance so the first step is to cut out dairy and see if that helps. Second thing is to try is a course of probiotics to see if that helps restore the flora in the bowel. It also says that you can try a low dose of Imodium or similar at nighttime to help prevent the early morning run to the loo. I'm going to start probiotics tonight. I bought some lactobacillus acidophyllus capsules so I thought I'd give that a go for a week to see if it helps. If not then I might see the GP to see if I C. diff. grows on culture. Psychological roller coaster

If you have had serious issues with major unipolar depression and/or bi-polar depression in the past, this can be a challenging time for you because your hormones are all out of whack which can trigger lots of feelings (good an bad). One of the problems with being obese is that fat cells produce and store estrogen. As you burn those cells off, the estrogen is being released into your blood stream. This will throw off your hormonal balance in a major way. [This effects both men and women btw]. It will cause mood swings and can make you downright irritable--like super PMS. If you're unhappy with your p.doc in general, by all means get a new one. If, however, this is just a concern about your current mood, try to get an appointment as soon as possible, but don't look to change docs right now if he or she has been doing a good job for you in general. It's hard to find a good p.doc and there aren't many (or any) p.docs that specialize in treating bariatric patients (we aren't really all that different from any other patient once our bodies adapt to the new physiology). You should, however, go to your bariatric support group meetings. My practice has them twice a month. It's a great way to meet other people that are going through the same things you're going through (or have been them already). Try to get that appointment to see your p.doc, but if he or she has been doing a good job for you so far, don't run out and change. New docs often like to change up meds and that can really add fuel to the fire. This hormonal spike is going to be a short term issue (a few months at the most)--not a life long thing. So, you are only talking about dealing with unusual emotions for a little while--and then you get back to being yourself (with all the usual issues that you had before surgery, but with less weight to carry around). If have issues with major depression and you feel yourself slipping into a downward spiral, you might also look into seeing a doctor or clinic that could give you ketamine infusion. That would definitely take the edge off while you go through the adjustment phase. My wife suffers with major depression (has for years) and she gets ketamine treatments every 3-4 weeks depending on what's going on. It's not a cure all, but it makes a huge difference!!!
  14. I am unclear about the cost quote given with respect to insurance. She said that was the quote with my insurance, and it would never exceed that amount, even if insurance declined coverage post-surg. You get the quote in writing, and with the $500 down payment, you're ready to schedule. I have decided (at least for now) to go to a local bariatric group; however I won't know for three months (after I've gone through all the prep procedures [with their out-of-pocket deductibles] and weigh-ins and classes, etc etc) whether insurance will approve my procedure. I had to bulk up by a couple of pounds to get over 40 BMI (and at the first weigh-in, they used an incorrect height to calculate my BMI). I'm not wild about this particular local group--not particularly good about followup and communication. For example, they scheduled me for an endoscopy mid-December. When I showed up, I was told I had to pay a $900 copay/deductible for the procedure. Afterward, I kicked myself black and blue because I should at least have postponed it for two weeks so it would count toward my 2019 out of pocket max. It just seems to me that someone should have given me a heads up about that cost. (God knows how much the sleep study will cost me.) So I have to master the art of changing all of my eating habits, exercising daily, but NOT LOSING ANY WEIGHT until my final weigh-in for insurance approval. After that, it'll be full steam ahead. If insurance doesn't approve my surgery, I'll be back in touch with Blossom Bariatric.
  15. Hi. I'm Sherry.. 41 single mom of a 20 year old, high functioning autistic son with a myriad of health issues.. I work 2 jobs.. about 70 hours a week now that Christmas is over and my second job settled down and there isn't another trial at my day job until July. Needless to say I don't focus on me much. I don't have time but I'm making time now. I had to have female surgery back in October and in doing so hit my out of pocket max (except for $300) until the end of the fiscal year April 30. I found out my insurance covers bariatric surgery and with my max met, it would be covered 100% so here I am. I've always been a little chunky. 12 -14 in high school. 219 pounds when I found out I was pregnant at 20. 235 when I gave birth. I managed to stay in the low 200's until I hit my 30's and I got put on seroquel for my bipolar. I then ... blossomed??? up to 315 pounds. Everything became hard... sitting in the movies with my mom and she'd tell me.. not in a whisper either.. to quit breathing so hard.. are you ok? I started back to weight watchers several times.. I went to the gym.. I did diet bets. (I love them). I did MyFitnessPal. I would lose a little weight.. burn out.. and gain it back. I got back up to 297 this time when I stated weight watchers AGAIN. I lost down to 280 then had my surgery and now it hasn't moved in 2 months. I am currently 276.8 nekkid on my home scale. The Dr. scale has me at 282.8 with shoes and my apple watch on. I went in for my consult 12/10/18 on my son's 20th birthday. Since then it's been a whirlwind. They scheduled all my appointments that day. Cardiologist, pulmonologist, nutritionist, endoscopy, and psych. So far I've been cleared at psychiatry.. how that happened I have no idea since I'm a fruitcake. My bipolar is stable and I had good reasons. 30 minute appointment cleared. NEXT! I went to my second pulmonology appointment today. I was told my lung function is good but I have to have a sleep study done to rule out or treat apnea. It can be done at home. They will call me in a week to pick up the machine. I was worried about that one. I work 5 nights a week at the store and didn't know how I would get a night off. My next appointment is Nutrition on Thursday .. then next week (Monday) I have my second nutrition appointment, cardiology on Tuesday and my endoscopy on Thursday. I'm curious about the endoscopy... my son has eosinophilic esophagitis. Im curious to see how my scope compares to his.

    Help!!!

Do not take gummy vitamins as they donโ€™t have the right level of vitamins for bariatric patients. Instead, purchase generic versions of Centrum or One A Day vitamins that you can buy at Costco (Kirkland brand) or at various drugstores (e.g. Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS) which often have Buy One Get One free specials.

That's what they say about me at Bariatric Pal Store, see I use my accrued points and then pay for shipping, normally over $ 60 purchases ship free, but this is how the Store Mavens and I have worked things out, I had such a bunch of points accrued, comes from originating thteads, and weighing on everything interesting. Last time I ordered they asked " shall we ship it to ( insert street address)?, Yipes I AM INFAMOUS!

    January surgeries?!

From my lofty yet slippery perch, after 20+ weeks of liquids I'm going to the clear protein waters, even if I have to dilute them half-and-half, I shall mentally call them. Good-for-You Koolaid. Check Vitamin Shoppe, GNC,Bariatric Pal Store, Sam's Club, Costco. As last resort, Amazon- they are too wealthy for their own good, why enrich them any further?๐Ÿถโ˜•๐Ÿต
  22. When broken down by surgery type, the most common reason for a revisional surgery among those who had banding was band-associated problems, such as migration stenosis or slippage. Among banding patients, nausea and weight-related indications were also common reasons for revision. As for VBG patients, the most common indication for revisional surgery was staple-related disruptions, accounting for 10% of these patients. Nausea due to stenosis and collar migration were also common indications for revision. The most common indications for revisional surgery for gastric bypass patients were reflux-associated and esophagus-associated complications. https://www.medpagetoday.com/endocrinology/obesity/77253 "The dominant reason for corrective revisional surgery was bile reflux (including esophagitis), which occurred only in patients with loop technique GBP," the researchers noted, adding how "this demonstrates the superiority of the Roux-en-Y technique with regard to the need for secondary interventions." Although the small percentage of gastric bypass patients included in the cohort was a limitation, it's still apparent that this surgery accounted for fewer revisionary surgeries. "Among more than 200 Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures, only five (2.3%) required any reoperation," he said. "Revisional surgery carries a higher complication rate than the primary procedure, but if needed, it should not be denied..."

    mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

Wow that is so crazy! And your gallbladder was FUSED to your liver?! How does that even happen? Ya know I found this weird, tiny set of eating utensils on Amazon when I searched for bariatric stuff. They're supposed to help you eat tiny bites compared to regular sized utensils. Those and special plates for sorting your food into mini portions. I'll definitely be getting those because I hoover my food. They're pretty cheap too. You've got this though...just like you did the first time

i get the pro health bariatric ones from amazon.
  25. I went to see the dietician yesterday and now feel more irritated, confused, depressed and defeated... She said: DON'T weigh food! DON'T count protein or calories or carbs! She said I just have to use the 'bariatric plate'. I find this (attached) completely confusing as I could load up the plate to many different amounts of food and types of food so how was that helpful. She told me not to get so hung up. She personally doesn't have a weight issue (or perhaps she does have a thin issue!), she had no empathy and just sent me on my way making me feel I was making a mountain out of a molehill! I asked her about the wisdom of using sugar free options as I am very suspicious of them as there has been so much written about the negative effects of splenda, sucralose, aspartame, etc ... when I was on Atkins, I kept right away from anything sugar free. But, she said it was fine. I've been told by my surgeon that my weight loss is too slow and disappointing, but as I have Atrial Fibrillation, I have to take beta blockers that slow down the metabolism and cause weight gain. I'm trying to be really strict with my counting and she said it sounded like I was making the right choices. But, she said that she and the surgeon expected me to lose another 16lbs by the end of this month!! She said my food choices look good so I should stop worrying... Feeling exasperated and down-hearted. VSG - Bariatric Plate.pdf
