SF Popsicles... Pretty sure I have an addiction. I love them to snack on. A few other things would be eggs, Greek yogurt, protein shakes and water.

I feel like I'm in such a weirdo in between space. I don't care as much about food these winter months. SAD? i swore this was when all the cooking would happen. Not for myself anyways. I'm like it's just food, I'm hungry. I'll just eat yogurt. I like yogurt. I need to get back in cooking track

Puréed, I am so ready
SunnyinSC replied to Hayden's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My favorites so far have definitely been refried beans with a little salsa, and then this ricotta bake that reminds me of lasagna. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to trying eggs. You're a lot more organized than I am! On my list of things to try within the next few days, once I eat all the leftovers I currently have, are a puree of refried beans and ground turkey meat with taco seasoning, and then I was gonna try and do an imitation crab with a Mongolian sort of marinade and then mush that up. I am hoping it'll work cause imitation crab is generally pretty soft, so I imagine it'll mush well. There's also a "shrimp scampi" puree recipe I found that I wanna try. It's shrimp, garlic, parsley, low fat plain Greek yogurt, and a little olive oil pureed up. -
Eating During 1St Post Op Week
NWgirl replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to find out your surgeon's specific plan. Some call for a week of clear liquids, which would be broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles. Others (mine) let you do full liquids, which consist of pureed soups that can go through a sieve, tomato soups, yogurt without chunks or seeds, Protein shakes, SF pudding. I've included the list from my blog of things I would get if I were to do it again. Also, like you said, don't buy too much stuff. I ended up buying a lot of broths but never drank them because I was allowed full liquids and I ended up freezing a majority of the yogurt I bought because I way overestimated the amount I would eat. If I were to do it again, this is what I would buy: General Meds: - sublingual B-12 - Biotin - O-purity Band Multivitamin or Centrum Chewables - Calcium + Vit D & K chews - Chewable or dissolveable Iron supplement - Liquid adult Tylenol - Probiotic Pearls - Milk of Magnesia - Scarzone to put on incision sites after they have fully closed and the steri strips have come off. Stage One: - Peewee Pillowpet to hold against stomach. - Lipton cup-a-soup Cream of chicken - Soups that can be pureed and put through a sieve. - Peppermint tea - Protein powder- Body Fortress chocolate, Vanilla - 3 Protein mix shakers - Yogurt without seeds or chunks. Only two or three cases = 8 to 12 yogurts. - SF syrups - Pillow "chair" Stage Two: - Mashed Potatoes - food processor. I bought a Ninja Kitchen Pulse so I can get rid of some of my other appliances. - Applesauce - Cottage cheese - Oatmeal - Refried Beans - Soups that can be pureed to consistency of cottage cheese. -
question on protein shakes
Jodi_620 replied to Ellen86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am required to do the liquid Protein I can have the EAS shakes or Adkins. Other things that I can have are. Protein powder mixed with water or hood milk (they recommend unjury or any brand containing whey protein) chicken or Beef broth (1 cup) sugar free Jello (1/2 cup) Crystal Light Carb control yogurt smoothies (no more than on per day) They also recommended Citrocel because the Fiber makes you feel full but I just don't like that stuff... Have something every 2-3 hours as needed to control hunger. -
Pre-Opt diet messing with blood sugar?????
Jodi_620 replied to LundyLane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I am on day 5 of an all liquid Protein diet. I can have Protein shakes, Jello, broth, crystal light & yogurt smothies. The first couple of days I did alright except for a bad headache which I attributed to stopping my beloved Diet Pepsi cold turkey. I am not diabetic but I do have Insulin Resistance. At day 5 my headaches aren't so bad but none of the allowable liquids are stopping the hunger pangs. Yesterday afternoon I went out to Lowes with hubby and had to sit down...I suddenly felt so dizzy, nauseous, clammy and my brain stayed pretty fuzzy until I went to bed. And as the day wears on I get so tired of the hunger pains that I am irritable. I have ten more days to go pre-op then I will be on about the same diet for another 14 days post-op, hopefully after surgery things will be a little easier. -
I'm seven days out and lost 8 lbs. Make sure you are drinking fluids and drinking your protein shakes. Are you still on any pain meds? If so, that could be the reason why you are constipated. I am consuming 4 oz of protein for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Between those times, I am drinking water or Propel water zero and eating high protein yogurt. Good luck! Continue to walk around as much as possible as this will make your digestive track kick up again.

I feel your frustration. I just had my 4th fill done this past Thursday (total of 2cc in my 4cc band), and I can finally say I have restriction. Man, do I have restriction. It's strange when you finally get it, because your head and your eyes tell you still need to eat, yet your band gives a very loud NO THANKYOU. I'm trying to adjust to the new way of eating, and have been overly fond of yogurt these past few days. Stick with it, and when you finally get the restriction....You will know immediately.

Band too tight? -OR- Eating too fast?
kjhack replied to nothingcomesez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am kind of in this stage too. I have restriction for the first time since I got my band in october 2008. It is very difficult to know how much to eat. I am very tight in the morning. So I usually can only get down 1/2 a yogurt. Then the afternoon is better. 1/2 cup of food at lunch. I just got my fill on monday, so if it gets any tighter I may have to have some removed. Hope we all get this thing figured out. The hardest thing for me is to slow down, at dinner. By the time dinner comes I am starving. -

So I've been on liquids for 13 days and I've lost 10 pounds. However, for days I've been thinking that I haven't cheated, but unfortantly now I'm wondering if I have. I've been drinking 3 shakes a day and have a small I mean small salad with olive oil and vinegar with like 2-3 strips of grilled chicken, I don't do the chicken everyday. I was also told I could have no sugar pudding and yogurt and low fat cottage cheese. Do you guys think I screwed up by having the small salad? My nutritionist said that I could eat as many fresh veggies as I wanted, so isn't salad fresh veggies, I just am worried about the grilled chicken and oil and vinegar. I also went out for girls night last night and my friends were so proud of me, they all drank and ate appetizers and I drank my Water and eat NOTHING!!! I was so proud of myself. I'm just scared now about the salad and my surgery is on Tuesday!! Anyone that can tell me their thought or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I had thrush/yeast on my tongue. I had been sick right before surgery and on antibiotics, then had antibiotics in my IV and post op also. I ate a lot of yogurt drank those little Dan Activ liquid yogurts and took probiotics. It went away over a wk or two. Depending on your symptoms, you may have to have meds for it.

I tried that key lime Greek yogurt too. If its the same brand it was 12g protein and 160 cals. I'd like to try the crystal light in the plain Greek yogurt too. Good call!

Unjury unflavored in my coffee for added protein??
Catalystmb replied to Pizzaman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
the turnaround for me was under a week! I am pre banded(enduring the 6 month doc sup deit) but wanted to try some of them Proteins drinks to find one I liked. The Unjury is GREAT. I have had al but the chicken Soup. I can't bring myself to try that one. I don't have them hot. I make a 1 scoop unjury shake in the morning with a 1/4c of frozen strawberries and 1/4 c FAGE Yogurt. Yummy and super nutritious. I wonder about the bits of strawberry post op. I will probably wean myself off of the fruit. I make the same shake with Van, Choc and strawberry flavors on different days. I last signed up for auto delivery which yields a small discount. :rolleyes2: -
after Banding will I be able to take meds
Wheetsin replied to BrownieUNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it's not enteric coated, you can just crush it. Doesn't always taste the best, but there are things you can do to help, eg. don't mix it with something like applesauce you have to chew, sprinkle it into drinkable yogurt and spoon it down your throat. You won't want to crush enteric coated meds, so be sure to check with your pharmacist or doctor on this one. If it is enteric, maybe it's small enough to get down anyway, or you could be a situation where the size of mandatory medication determines the amount of fill you're able to get. I've tried something the size of a Tylenol, cut into quarters, and couldn't pass it. But others share stories of taking full size vitamins with no problems. Like most things band, it's a matter of personal tolerance levels. -
What do we need!?
getting_to_know_me replied to Becoming_Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After you have your surgery you will have a lot of gas pain the gas x strips will help a lot with that. Mira lax is going to be your friend that is going to get things moving once you are able to start eating food it is a horrible feeling to be constipated after surgery. Bottled water and flavor packets to put in them if you don't like plain water, sugar free pudding cups, SF popsicles, cream soups, yogurt, protein shakes ( i like premier ), any medicines you need filled get them filled ahead of time so you won't have to stand in line or wait on them after surgery, vitamins, i got sugar free hard candy to suck on after surgery because my mouth stayed dry Sent from my VS986 using BariatricPal mobile app -
starting soft food diet tomorrow -help
Humming Bird replied to jennyflower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the corned beef may be a bit too solid, but whatever you try just go very slow. I started with things like yogurt, oatmeal, soup with chunks, cottage cheese, applesauce, refried beans........ But I was eating those things before week 3 I think. Anything new you try just take a very tiny bite or 2 and then wait a couple minutes to see how it goes. -
Questions about water and protein shakes.
Ruby Woo replied to Tssiemer1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein intake does not count as water/hydration intake. You must take in atleast 60-70 grams of protein per day, and also a minimum of 64 oz of water. Broth, and sugar free Popsicles are considered hydration. Yogurt and protein shakes are absolutely not considered fluid intake. I know it's hard but you must sip both protein shake and water all day. Also FYI and fore anyone else who doesnt know the Isopure flavored liquid protein doesn't count as hydration. Isopure is liquidy but is 100% pure protein and has no water in it. -
Adding Calories to Diet Correctly
Kindle replied to Nugget's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never measured or tracked my food or counted calories, so I can't give you numbers. But When I reached my surgeons goal I started adding calories in the form of more fat and carbs. I was already pretty maxed out on protein calories. Switched from skim to 2% milk. Regular Greek yogurt instead of 0% fat. Switched from PB2 to real peanut butter. Ate more fruit. Traded a couple protein bars for some whole grain Kind and Ancient Grain bars. Started adding Kashi Go Lean cereal to my Greek yogurt. I ended up losing another 22 pounds, which was 12 pounds below my personal goal. I was actually getting a little annoyed because I didn't want to have to buy MORE clothes in a smaller size. But finally my body just stopped losing when it stopped and I've easily maintained within 4-5 pounds of my lowest weight for over 14 months. I would have been happy even 20 pounds heavier if that's where my body wanted to be. It's just a matter of figuring out what you are happy eating and what kind of lifestyle you are willing to maintain long term. Maintenance is boring, so you gotta like what you do. -
I am SO Looking forward to a protein shake and yogurt too! Sleeved the 18th! Going to first pre op tomorrow
-
I can't eat it as a "yogurt". I eat it more as a sour cream replacement/dip. Mix salsa with it and dip veggies. Add it to a soup to make it creamy. When I think of it as sour cream instead of yogurt it works, if that makes sense!

Weight Stall :(
Threetimesacharm replied to Angie was Sleeved 08/31/12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why are you not able to get in all of your protein? Are you still having one shake a day? I have one shake a day at 31 grams and it more than helps me get in 80 grams of protein. Make sure you are eating high protein foods: chicken, fish, yogurt. -
Okay, I'm actually a little over three months out now. My surgery was 15 July with Dr. Aceves. I was down 45 pounds at my 3 month mark. My starting weight was 242 pounds and I'm 5'1" and change. I started in an uncomfortably tight 18/20 and I'm now wearing loose 16s. The 14s are still uncomfortably tight, but I'll be in them by next month. My shirts were XXL and XL and are now L. No more Xs on my shirts! I've lost a bra size (both band and cup) and I'm finally able to wear my wedding band again. My shoes went up half a size when I went over 220 pounds, and now all of the shoes I bought are too loose and slip off my feet. I stall every month, twice a month. I lose about 15 pounds a month but I lose those pounds in two and a half weeks. I'm a type 2 diabetic and I'm insulin resistant, and my weight loss is "slow" compared to a lot of people sleeved at the same time. It's normal for me to stall for ten days and then drop six pounds in the next four days. Milk is not my friend. After a lot of work to pinpoint what was causing my digestive issues, the answer is MILK. Even lactaid upsets my stomach. My Protein shake, cottage cheese and plain yogurt do the same to a much lesser degree. I was looking for alternative and my doctor suggested goat or sheep milk, saying that they don't have lactose. I'd switch to almond milk or soy milk (if I could tolerate the taste!) but I'm about to move to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and I wanted to go with an alternate I could find once we move. Goats and sheep abound in Tashkent, but soy milk and almond milk do not! The great news is that goat milk isn't too bad once you get used to the aftertaste. At first it felt like I was drinking milk while munching on chevre. Since switching a few days ago, I've been able to drink my Protein shakes with only minor intestinal distress. I've also broken through a two week stall and lost 2 pounds, so things are moving again. I am losing hair. Not too much yet, but there is definitely more hair on my shirts and in the drain catcher. I've been taking Biotin (5000 mcg) since preop and I get all of my Vitamins in - I think the newly increased loss is due to my lower protein intake. While I was unable to drink my shakes I wasn't getting enough protein. I hope that I'll be able to pull through this without too much additional loss. My diabetes is well under control with just diet and exercise. I sleep better and longer than I did before surgery. I'm also more energetic and move a lot more than I used to, without getting sore or tired. Sometimes I don't see much of a change, but then I'll see a picture of me from this summer flip by on our screensaver and realize that I've come a long way already. My face is definitely thinner, and I only have a little more to lose before that dreaded double chin is completely gone. I have no regrets and would have this surgery again in a heartbeat. I wish I lost a little faster, but even at this slow rate, I'll be at goal by spring. ~Cheri
