  1. So a few weeks ago I posted that I would be taking a business trip this week and was hoping that I had lost enough weight to no longer need the seat belt extender. I am happy to say that I DID NOT NEED IT! Not only that but there was 5-6 inches of belt left! I usually ask the flight attendant before finding my seat for the extender. I made the decision to not ask this time. I felt pretty sure that I might not need it but I was prepared to ask for it if I needed to. I sat down and easily put it on. I just sat there and cried. With tears rolling down my face, I called my husband to share my excitement with him. He just said over and over, "I am so proud of you.". I flew back this morning with such comfort. I used the tray in front of me for my beverage (couldn't do that before) and even crossed my legs for a while. I am floating on a cloud!

    What to tell work/coworkers

The question to tell or not, gets less and less important as the weight comes off. Your self esteem goes up, your medications go down, your life is brighter as you get into small clothes and all the other NSVs. It is funny when I quick smoking, I found that when I told people they seemed to push smokes my way. When I told people I had the band, they pushed food my way or made snide comments. Now that doesn't happen when I say with confidence no thanks and give no explanation. My small point being made is - why do we feel we need to give any explanation but we do? As someone posted, when people comment on her weight loss she smiles and replies "Thank you".
  5. Thank you to everyone who shares about their stalls and how they work through it! This month weight has either gone up a bit then back down then stayed the same. Thanks to all my reading on here and after checking my food/exercise patterns I can be grateful for what I have achieved so far. It's so important right now for me to focus on the NSVs such as wearing a medium top and size 9/10 pants, completing my 2nd 5k, cutting almost 6 minutes off my 5k time, etc. Staying in positivity and gratitude!!!

    The Bandsters' Constitution

Newbies have the right to ask what PB and NSV mean. Rant&Ravers have the right to jump all over people who post complaints about the contents of this forum.
  7. Nykee, your honesty and "realness" never fail to amaze me. 'Sho is right, start documenting, start getting things charted by your docs. What you have said shows medical neccesity, not cosmetic. I think you are sort of stuck in the middle. You've come so far that you cannot see that light where you came from, but you haven't gone far enough to see the light where you are going. And that is a diffiuclt and discouraging place to be. (((((Nykee)))) 'Sho, that is so wonderful about the bathing suit! But I honestly cannot think of an NSV where I have mixed feelings. I will have to do some thinking about that. I cannot offer any thing constructive about your scars. But then again, I don't care if people see my scars, it doesn't have an affect on me what people think about them. It doesn't even occur to me that people might think anything about them for that matter.

    Nsv -- Oh Boy!!!

OK let me just start this by saying, " OH MY GAWD! " I went shopping yesterday after I got a much needed manicure and pedicure. I was feeling a little down cause I was in a slump / plateau weight loss wise. So I go into WalMart and think just for shits and giggles let me go to the NORMAL people section and look at workout clothes. Now mind you I knew I was heading to AVENUE after so I didn't really expect to find anything that would fit my little toe much less all of me. I find some really cute leopard shirts and some black pants. I take them into the dressing room, laughing the whole time thinking these will never work and I will need to have the fitting room clerk come in and help peel me out of them. OR I will hurt myself putting on the pants and have to be rushed to the ER and have to explain why my arms are in the legs part of the pants. "Well you see I figured if I couldn't put the legs in the right place then I could put my arms in there and use it as one of those half sweater thingys everyone is wearing these days." Can you imagine the laughs in the ER when that is explained. OK I digress. So I take the cute leopard outfits (there are three of them by the way, Blue, Gold, and Grey--have to get all three) into the dressing room. I make sure the door closes and no one is even anywhere close to my stall. I don't wanna send up warning signals to anyone when they hear me beating and banging on the sides of the walls because I can't get into much less out of the outfits. LOL!! I undress. That is a shocker cause of the floor length mirrors. AGH!!! It's like being on "What not to wear." I keep expecting Clinton and Stacey to barge in and say "What are you thinking?" LOL!!! Anyway, I am picking up the Gold leopard shirt. I think this is the one that I really like and if I can't wear it there is no need in trying on the other. GUESS WHAT??????? IT FITS!!!!!!!!!!!! IT is tight but IT FITS!!!!!!!! But here is the best and coolest part. THE PANTS FIT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you wanna know the size. Remember this part guys, this is the most important part. I am in WalMart where NORMAL people shop for clothes, not Avenue, not Lane Bryant, not Catherine's, but WALMART. The size are you ready 16/18. IS not that the coolest thing EVER? I haven't wore that size in about,.....oh,......... say 30 years give or take one or two years. I was in the dressing room and started crying. I was so thrilled I had to step out of the room and look at the BIG full length mirror and dared Clinton and Stacey to come around the corner. I was hollering "SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" I am all verklempt!!! Love you guys. By the way I bought all three outfits and one more blue and black one. I will be stying and profiling when I work out now. LOL!!

    NSV for me

I was banded about 6 weeks ago. Since then I've lost 24 pounds (35 total), gone back to the gym, and totally changed my diet. My husband and I are leaving on a week long cruise this Friday and I had NO summer clothes to wear that didn't look like stuff I'd owned for 10 years (because well... most of my stuff... it's old!) so I went shopping yesterday. My pant size has been pretty much the same forever because even if my hips are smaller, my thighs are still huge. Anyway. I usually buy 24s for pants, but yesterday I comfortably fit into 20s! That's almost an 18, and NORMAL stores carry 18s! My shirt size went down too, from a 22-24 to an 18-20 and I even got one 14-16 that looked cute on me. WOO HOO!

  14. So I am about 4 1/2 months from surgery and since the day I returned home from the hospital I have become a workout junky...I started slow and now workout an 1 - 1 1/2 hours a day, I can do an hour on the elliptical with no problems, can run intermittently on the treadmill and my energy is through the roof, I couldn't have done any of this prior to surgery even though I use to workout some....I lift light weights on my off days from the gym and feel guilty if I miss one day of working out, go figure ...Since my surgery I have had no complications and easily get in 80g - 120g of protein daily, don't get me wrong I have not been perfect with my diet and was starting to get discouraged with only losing 63lbs since surgery, I thought I should have been losing it faster with all the working out I was doing.....I thought of something Lil Ms Diva said a while back which was to celebrate every pound and realize that this process is a journey (paraphrasing) but it was something to that effect...I can say I am happier and feel awesome....I give much props to my surgeon Dr. Nick Nicholson...to those of you starting your journey the surgery is worth it and definitely life changing! My stats below haven't been updated current weight: 248 lbs.

does my situation count as a complication?

According to all your NSV's it seems that you are converting fat into muscle which weighs more, and then the good part is that once you have all your muscle building or rebuilding done, these are the very same critters that are going to take all that preparation and new thyroid support and burn the rest of the fat off probably faster that you could imagine (remain hopeful). And by the way, are you sleeping well? I found out that lack of the right kind of sleep can actually stress your body and not let it loose also. It amazes me to learn of all the factors that contribute to weight gain. Do you get aerobic? or does running to classes do that for you? I think you are in for a good surprise.

    Period changes

This is in "ladies only" but I don't really care if men read/respond to it (though I have no idea why this would interest menfolk) so... just a disclaimer. Ever since I fell in the "morbidly obese" category my periods have been irregular. Usually I could count on my period to come every other month. Each time I got my period it would come with wicked PMS and menstrual cramps that rival labor pain - funny, when I gave birth and reached 8 cm I thought to myself "Huh, this is what my worst menstrual cramps feel like." Just so people know what kind of hell I've lived with each period! I'd have to take 4 Advil and 1 hydrocodone every 4 hours just to manage the pain. If I missed a dose, I'd be curled up on the floor and weeping. And when my cramps woke me in the middle of the night and I had to wait 45 minutes for the medicine to kick in... unbearable. Anyway, after I had my baby my periods blessedly vanished (probably due to breastfeeding for 6 months). Got my first period 9 months postpartum - no PMS, no pain, just blood. Thought I was just lucky. Periods started up every 2-3 months, painless, just blood. I thought I was living the dream. Then I lost 30 pounds and now it seems like my hormones are sorting themselves out again. I am suffering from my monstrous PMS again and feel the volcanic buildup of menstrual cramps. It's normal to see a regularization of menstruation after losing weight, yes? Anyone here go from periods every 2-3 months to going back to a 28 day cycle? I guess this is kind of a back-handed NSV I'm not particularly excited about this one. My uterus is retiring from childbearing so if anyone can recommend BC methods that stop periods and don't cause a surge in appetite I'd appreciate it. I hate having my period!!!
  17. So, i thought this is a NSV that i should share with everyone. Before surgery my insulin level was very high, it was 33.4 (normal insulin levels range from 4.8 and 27.8) today, (almost six months post op)... my insulin level came out to be 7.8!!!! I was so happy i cried... no meds needed and no more worrying about my health. I am as healthy as any normal person now. Oh and my doctor wants to keep checking my insulin cause he is afraid that it might go below normal level (go figures) lmao. Anyways, good luck everyone and thank you for reading my post.

    So I lost 100 lbs!

Between my two-week pre-op and the three months (and change) since surgery, I have lost 90 lbs. I am almost even a little thankful for the present stall in which I find myself, because it could only make the progress healthier and more sustainable. That is by far my proudest victory. But the NSVs are countless...the biggest one being making good on the promise I made to myself to one day wear college-era clothes again that have since been boxed up in the attic. Congratulations on your century mark! See you in Onederland soon!

    Nsv!

Wonderful! . I remember the first time I realized that the towel went all the way around me. Something so simple--and "normal" is very exciting! Congrats on your NSV!!! You're on your way! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    Big legs

Haha, I literally just had a debate with myself today about buying knee high boots online! I've always had thick muscular calves, so boots never fit me, even when I was thin. A few weeks ago I bought a pair of thigh high boots for my Halloween costume and those suckers didn't even come close to fitting my thighs. I'm sure it is all in how you lose weight, but for me, my legs are very muscular, so short of losing all my fat in other places and then eating away at the muscle, I doubt that I will fit in the cool boots until I am very thin. Fingers-crossed for everyone that has this as one of their future NSV goals- I'm right there with you!
  21. What a great NSV! Proud of you Donna. Makes all the struggles worthwhile.

    I have a NSV!

I love heels - as long as I don't have to walk too far in them. They just make me feel sexier. Nice NSV - good for you.

    I have a NSV!

Jessie - birks for me, too - I live in them! Socks and birkenstock sandals in the winter - quite a fashion statement! Kathy - Great NSV! I can't wear heels for more than a couple of hours - and at that they're really LOW heels! I'll look forward to that one! With weight, my feet have gotten SOOOOO wide! I hope with weight loss that they aren't spread out so much. When I try to wear normal shoes it looks like Miss Piggy or ugly step sister feet!
  24. My new NSV is being able to shop on the right side of the store when I go in a Cato or Dress Barn store. lol. They have regular Misses sizes to the right and Women's sizes to the left. I get Lane Bryant catalogs in the mail and can now put them in the trash. Yippee!
