    Every surgeon is different. after 10 days my doctor told me there was no physical activity i could do that would damage what he did to my stomach, only being sore could hold me back. Well it didnt and i started crossfit on day 11 and havent stopped with zero issues. But thats just me. Everyone is different.

    10. Yesterday was a good day. Breakfast with a friend, gym, and then home to putter in the yard and mystery shows on tv. I'm most grateful for all the time spent with immediate and extended family. Today, we are all scattered all over the planet and it is rare that we are in the same place at the same time (the extended ones anyway). No one lives in the same town or state anymore. 11. I'm not sure what movie I'm most grateful for. There are so many I can watch again and again. Always loved The Marx Brothers, original Pink Panther movies, those were good laughs with my family. Loved The Big Chill and Silverado. There are so many movies from old black and whites to present day. I suppose anything that moved me, made me laugh, or think, or gave me a space away from the day-to-day. Ok, time to go to the gym. So loving this 3 day weekend! Yard stuff later it's so nice out!

    Ok - So I actually wrote this on another thread just now, but I thought maybe it would be more relevant/appropriate here. @FluffyChix and I were discussing barbie dream goal weights on the thread and I had some DEEP THOUGHTS hahahahahaha.... P.S. see link below if you are interested in reading it in context -------------------------------- OK, so I noticed a behavioural pattern in me that I sort of see in others as well, based on their posts/comments/etc that I have read. So I remember when I was at 127 lbs I was of the opinion that I was way too small and was adamant I did not want to lose any more, and I wanted to maintain in the 125-130 range. Then I got under 125. Something in me changed and I mentally switched my maintain range to 120-125. During my attempts to transition into maintenance, I got under 120. Not surprisingly, my chosen maintain range became 115-120. If I got near too near 120, I would buckle down to get closer to 117.5 Fast forward to today and for some reason or another, I got under 115. I've been under 115 for about a month now. Now even though I am now 10-15 lbs below what I thought was too small way back then, I find myself getting lowkey concerned when I get closer to 115! I mean, for the past couple days I have been like 3-4 ounces within 115 and I find myself watching my food choices more closely. Its as if each new 5 lbs loss increment becomes the new standard (despite it being intentional or not) that I have to defend. Now don't get me wrong, I am very pleased with how I look and feel these days, and don't feel I need to lose nor gain any weight. Right now this is just an observation that *may* be a concern *if* I get under 110 or 105 (which honestly I think is very unlikely). I just sorta wonder sometimes if I would feel the need defend a 100-105 range if I ever got there? I dunno. We'll cross that bridge if we ever come to it.     🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

    Day 10. Relatively clean day! It was the weekend so I may have had some of my kids' Girls Scout candied nuts inadvertently [emoji57][emoji6] What am I grateful for in my childhood? Simply put, my childhood! I'm extremely grateful for having the opportunity to have a childhood with amazingly caring parents that selflessly guarded my innocence with good values and ethics. And having siblings who despite "sibling rivalry" love me unconditionally and I can rely on them to care for my interests the way they would theirs. I realized as I grew up that this was not common, so I'm grateful for parents that nurtured that love within and between us🧡[emoji176] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    #10 Childhood - growing up around my cousins. (24 first cousins, don't even know how many second cousins!) I have so many good memories of them! My siblings missed out on a lot of that because we moved to Texas when I was 12 and my siblings are all younger than me. #11 Movie - the Harry Potter series because I have so many wonderful memories of watching them with my kids.
  10. Let me know if you have any questions. I don’t react well to anesthesia, so when my doctors said both could happen at the same time, I was thrilled. Knock me out once! It helped that my surgeons communicated well and they’ve both continued to check in with me. I see one today and one tomorrow for post-op check-ups. Having talked to friends who’ve had each procedure done separately, I don’t think the dual recovery is any worse than recovering from either one by itself. I plan to go back to work next Tuesday, which will be 19 days post-op, and almost felt like I could go back this week. I work with small children who like to come running in for a hug, so I decided against that. :)

    I'm just past 4 months post op rny and I've only had dumping once on accident. I made a protein shake with things that added up to a bit too much sugar than I could tolerate. But, every body is different, so you'll have to get to know your body. Honestly, dumping was one of the reasons why I chose rny over sleeve. I knew I would need that extra kick in the butt to help with my lifelong food addiction! I have zero regrets with my rny. My life is so much better since making the decision to get wls. Good luck! PS- I also attend wls support groups, OA meetings, and see my regular psychiatrist to help with my lifelong food addiction. High weight 311 Surgery weight 281 (7/3/19) Current weight 201

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

    Yesterday, Sun, Nov. 10 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.9 lbs Gonna just post this now instead of waiting until tomorrow. I am stuffed to the throat with grilled chicken at the moment (aaaaalmost to the point of barfing, but not quite). So I am DONE eating for today. ...went for brunch this afternoon and totally thought I would go carb-crazy. Ended up just taking in 35g of net carbs total at brunch, BUT...I just looked at the breakdown, and 21g grams of that was from the MAPLE SYRUP ALONE! And it was only about 1.5 tablespoons! Damn you delicious maple syrup. I didn't even have pancakes or waffles or french toast to put the syrup on. I put the stuff on my bacon and eggs, hahahaha. P.P.S. I was thiiiiiis close to eating some leftover birthday cheesecake from yesterday with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream, because I was only at ~900 cals by day's end. But I was looking over my food logs from past days and I am eating waaaaaaay too much dessert-y stuff too often. So I passed on the cheesecake, and ate some grilled chicken instead. Ate too much I guess, and now I am in this predicament. I really feel like I want to hurl though... 7:00am - earl grey tea w/ stevia 12:00pm - 2.5 coffees w/ stevia + 1.5 oz steak + 1/2 slice bacon + 1 poached egg + 1.5 tbsp maple syrup + 1 tbsp hollandaise sauce + 2 blueberries + 2 strawberries + 1/4 cup spring mix w/ mango vinaigrette + a bite of crabcake from Mr.'s plate 2:00pm - 1.75 oz chicharron 4:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1.7 oz peaches + 1 slice bacon + 2.4 oz steak 6:30pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1.6 oz peaches + 1/4 cup Chinese broccoli + 3.5 oz grilled chicken + 1 fl oz turnip dim sum 8:30pm - 4 oz grilled chicken w/ lemon & salt Totals: 1099 cals - 104g Protein - 54g NET carbs - 57g fat

    Day 10: What are you most grateful for in your childhood? The big answer- my parents. It would take a book to really try to explain why, and even then it probably wouldn't be enough... So I'll just leave it with the fact that I will never stop being grateful for the gift of being raised by both of them.

    I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

    Wow u poor thing most programs are at least 6months prep pre-op. My rule is if protein isn't the highest out of protein,sugar,fat you can't have it. Protein first, fat under 5, sugars under 5. I lived on protein shakes, eggs, protein water until I was feeling stronger. I had never felt so weak and exhausted all the time. Around 8 -10 weeks you start feeling normal again. Shame on your program not mentally preparing you. Find a support group in your area, they are everywhere. Plus there is always here.

    Day 10: Went to brunch again this morning and able to ride the motorcycle since it was a gorgeous day. Those dang mimosas got me again 🙄 but after the second one I felt a little queasy so just drank water the rest of the time. Another football get together tonight and my friend has made a huge pot of chili so that will be fine. What are you most grateful for in your childhood? I was the oldest and my parents were pretty strict with me in terms of doing well in school, household responsibilities and being respectful to everyone. There was no talking back or not doing what was expected of me. I think this enabled me to grow up to be responsible and have a successful career. I watch how some kids are allowed to treat their parents and behave in general and it really concerns me what kind of person are they going to grow up to be. So much disrespect everywhere....
  20. Scheduled for gastric sleeve first thing tomorrow morning at NYU. Must say, I’m a bit nervous about the recovery process and not being able to eat/enjoy certain foods, but the alternative is decreasing health and things breaking down over time. Ballooned up to 311 (5’7) and decided it was finally time to fix it. Pre-op has gone well and I’m down to 280. Did think for a second that perhaps I could just continue with the pre-op process and avoid the surgery, but I know it’s not realistic. Hoping that everything will go well so I can be on my feet and back to work for some travel I have scheduled in December. Made a point of not telling a lot of people. Mom is super supportive, but my wife still seems a bit on the fence. Any advice on what I can truly expect would be great! Thanks!

    Is it too late for me?

    Agree with above advice. Let me also stess the need to cut your grain carbs for the time being. The grain carbs will raise your glucose levels which in turn causes your insulin to shoot up. The insulin drives the blood sugar down and then you are hungry again. This can cycle all through the day. Cut out the grains and never eat fruit without the protection of protein. A little fruit is fine in a protein smoothie, or as dessert with some yogurt at the END of a meal. But not as a snack. Ok, For part two: EVERY time you eat, insulin levels increase. Insulin drives calories into fat storage. The more often you eat or snack, the more insulin you have floating around, doing it's dirty work to store fat and not allow fat burning. You have to limit your meals to 3 a day with NO snacking. Just doing this alone (along with eliminating grain and minimizing fruit) will take the pounds off. If you want to amp it up even more, give yourself an 8-10 hour window to eat each day. Only eat your nutritious food during this window. This is one form of intermediate fasting (most people skip an early morning meal and start around noon.) It is very powerful and kicks you into a fat burning mode. Do your exercise routine during this fasting time, and you will get even more benefit. I am also very nutrition conscious. I was not allowed to eat any form of veggies for 8 WEEKS post op!!!!! I have a large organic garden, and this was just torture! (I ended up making filtered greens water that I added to everything. My doc was mad at first, but I showed him that it was CLEAR and was a heck of lot better than Crystal Light, Gatorade, pop-sickles, or any other artificial "food."). Anyway, you have to follow the plan and get your protein in first. Then add all the veggies you want (except starchy ones.) At 6 months, I was still only eating about 600 cal/day. But I made every bite count for optimal nutrition and my 6 month labs came back great. Do not worry about becoming nutrient deficient at this point. Your labs were fine and you can eat plenty of phyto-nutrient dense foods now. But you still have to get your protein in to protect your muscle mass. Sometimes overeating is from fear of malnutrition, resulting in OVER eating. An overweight person is NOT well nourished - they are over nourished, which leads to a host of other serious problems. You can do this. The "honeymoon" period can last a lot longer than 6 months. You haven't lost the opportunity to maximize the next 6 months. The whole first year is really important and now that you can eat more "real" foods, you should not worry at all about nutrition if you are eating a healthy balance.

  24. Hi everyone, I got a vsg in late May 2019, so it's been 6 months or so now, and I feel I did not make the most of the first 6 months. I healed remarkably well, and was able to tolerate all foods , and I had no discomfort or complications. My problems started when shortly before surgery, I started to worry that I would not get enough nutrients, and would become ill. I have young children and my main reason for wanting to lose weight is to be around for a long time for them. So for this reason I put more of the focus on eating healthier things. I did all my protein shakes, but I also spent a lot of time making green juices with no fruit and blending up greens. I took extra supplements such as turmeric and fish oil and a few other things. The first month or so I felt great, and looked better than ever, I felt like I was glowing with health, but I was chronically hungry from the start. I thought the best thing might be to add a lot of fat from natural sources like from avocados and meats and nut Butters and found that no matter what I did I was chronically hungry unless I ate that good amount of fat, I would wake up in the middle of the night looking for food to eat. Eventually I started adding in carbohydrates like breads, and found that I can eat a fair amount of them even though I know I should not be. I know that this is not the recommended diet, but I had a 1 meeting lesson on how to eat. Kaiser met with with a group of us patients pre-surgery and sent us home with a one-page quiz that we were asked to fill out and email a copy of to the nutritionist in order to schedule a surgery. There were no nutrition classes. I am an adult and I can research these things for myself, and I know I should have been eating things like protein and vegetables all along, but due to my fear if not getting enough nutrients, I fear I may have sabotaged my weight loss. I feel great and extremely healthy otherwise. No hair loss and no vitamin deficiencies. All 6 month bloodwork was excellent. My weight loss has been very slow. I went into surgery weighing 258lb, and today I weigh 225 . My question is about maximizing the first 6 months which I hear is so very important. Well, those six months are gone now, and I want to really make the most of this weight loss surgery. What would you all recommend as far as getting back on track in the healthiest way possible, and have I blown it I not maximizing that six months? Now that it's been about 6 months will I start to get even hungrier? Thanks so much for reading,and I look forward to your responses.

    Operation Quit Smoking - Part Deux, Update: It's Day 10, babies. After a rough few days of likely nicotine-withdrawal-induced crankiness, I am glad to say that I have remained smoke-free since I said I would (and am noticeably less cranky, so say Mr. & the Kid). ...AND I didn't even succumb when I kept BFF company while she smoked outside after brunch today. Yes, there was a twinge of longing, but the desire to stay on the wagon was stronger. Yay Me!
