    glue on incisions

yeah mine was about 10 days.
  2. Make yourself go to the treadmill, it will change your attitude, you will feel successful and in control. I made myself go exercise so many times when I DID NOT WANT TO & now my head quit messing me and I feel fabulous. 10 minutes of forcing yourself will lead to 24 hours of being happy with yourself, and then you do it again. Rock on.

    One week out

I know your fears! I am having my surgery in 10 days! I don't have to do a pre op diet but I am. But he only suggests 5 days on it. This is going to be a whole new change, but one I am ready to embrace! I KNOW this website will help us along our journey. Best of luck to you!
  4. I've been diagnosed with a pretty bad sinus infection and have to travel tomorrow on business . I warned my PCP about my sleeve and said that, no, I absolutely did not want to take Augmentin 875 twice a day for 10 days. (I could barely tolerate it when I had an intact stomach. ) She prescribed levofloxacin 500 mg/10 days. I've never taken that before and am somewhat nervous about the side effects, especially when flying . Does anyone have experience with this drug, and/or which antibiotics have worked well for you post-sleeve?

    First fill..not good

Your roommate mentioned your experience to me in an email. That's a very aggressive schedule - 4 ccs at surgery and 1 more added just 18 days later? My 10 cc band had 1 cc in it at surgery and my doctor added 3 ccs six weeks later. I didn't feel a thing and I can't tell that I have any restriction, just as I expected from my doctor and this board. I certainly haven't had any pain! I think you need to see the doctor right away and get checked out, plus find out exactly what they have planned in the way of a fill schedule. Then if it's not for you, you can find another doctor to do your after-care. My doctor has an after-care program for patients who he didn't band. I hope you're feeling better soon! Take care!
  6. Oh, I hear you on that one IowaMom! A healthy weight seems so far away, doesn't it? See if this idea works for you-- Don't focus on the far away goals, but instead on something closer. Losing 5-10 pounds before your surgery would be a decent accomplishment. I'd suggest taking up walking, but I'd imagine that would be darned uncomfortable right now. Maybe in a few months.

I would love to join in. I live closer to the NH border though. If the drive was not bad, I would definitely be intersted. I live in Lowell about 10/15 minutes form the NH border. I definitely need help! lol.
  8. I just went in for my one week check up, and I am down 15 lbs from date of surgery. How is that possible? And how long before someone bursts my bubble and says, "It's all water the first 10 lbs that you lose". My clothes aren't fitting looser let, and she said it was probably because I was still swollen from surgery. Did anyone else lose what seemed like an impossible amount the first week?
  9. Hello all! I was banded on this past Friday, 10/17 and have been trying to figure out what occurred. I only have 3 incisions- one from where the band was placed, one from where my hiatal hernia was repaired (I'm guessing) and one from where the port was placed. This is unusual, no?
  10. Hi Audrey, I have Regence Blue Shield and they just changed their policy on Jan. 2 to include LapBand, BUT you have to have one year suppervised diet. That's what got me! I had 10 months of LA Weight Loss. No good. Hope this helps. I finally bit the bullet and just got back from Mexico :clap2: :clap2: Megret

    In your face moments

The quickest story I can offer is that of my 94-year-old mother. I don't get to see her that often, because she lives some distance away, in a town that is not readily accessible by airport. The last time I saw her was about 15 months ago, 2 days before the surgery that was going to remove my lap band, repair the significant damage caused by the band, and perform a gastric Bypass. This was a very "iffy" surgery. There were LOTS of problems caused by the band, and there was some serious question as to whether I would make it through the surgery unscathed. (NOTE: I'm not "band-bashing" here, the circumstances under which I saw my mother last were quite traumatic for us all.) I went out to visit my Mom right before the surgery because I wasn't all that sure I would see her again. As it turned out, my surgeon was brilliant, and I came through fine. But my recovery was many months long, and I was unable to get out to visit her. I was able to go out to see her earlier this month, on her 94th birthday. I was almost exactly 100 pounds lighter than I was when she had last seen me. I arrived at her house a little later in the day than I had planned, so she was napping in her recliner in the living room (as any respectable 94 year-old SHOULD be doing in the afternoon!). Her front door was locked, but I had a key, so I quietly entered her house, went into the living room, gave her a kiss on the cheek to wake her up. I stood in front of her as she slowly came back to reality. It was AMAZING, and quite joyful, to see the look on her face, and to see the tears roll down her cheeks. She just sat there and cried for about 10 minutes. It was quite wonderful for both of us. Of course, I had to endure 3 days of her parading me around to her pals. And some of them had Alzheimers, and kept drifting in and out of knowng who I was, but it was a fun and special few days. I glad I could give that gift to my Mother. She knows her son is happy, healthy, and lookin' "purdy good", and there is no better gift that a child can give a parent than that. HH

    Can't eat in a.m....why?

I've been banded almost two years and I don't dare try solids before 10:00, and it's not because I'm too restricted, just the nature of MY band.

    NewOrleansLady Good Luck tomorrow!

Surgery was Wednesday and it went well. But I am struggling with nausea and vomiting. I have only been able to keep down a few ounces of liquid a day. I finally got my Dr office to call me in some phenergan but I vomited about 10 minutes after I took it. The Medical Assistant tells my I don't need phenergan just take Reglan, Symax, and Prilosec and I will be fine. I am ready to strangle her. It defeats the purpose of taking these meds if I just vomit shortly after taking them. I am hoping today will be better. I definitely don't want to end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Any tips would be greatly appreciated since my Dr's office is not very helpful.
  14. I was banded 8/01/11 and it was a God send. Things were going slowly but steadily. In January I started having severe heartburn/reflux issues and no matter what pill, liquid med, ect I tried I got no relief. I was in so much pain I went to the er. I was admitted and my surgeon removed all the fill from my band. After a 5 day stint in the hospital, I had an egd done, protonix, dilauded, pepcid by IV I started to feel a lot better. I was told I had an esophageal erosion. I was given another med for that. I stayed with no fill for about 2 months the first 2 fills were fine just no restriction. So last week I went in and had another cc added. I am now up to 3. But again here comes the same pain I was dealing with in January. My GI doc said it had nothing to do with the band. Does ANYONE else have this issue???? Also I burp constantly....I heard thats a sign of a slippage with the band. I am terrified. I would love any advice you can provide! Thanks all and God bless.
  15. I am six months out and although I haven't gained, I haven't lost for over a month now. I to graze and snack all day- my appetite is much larger then it was in the beginning and I can eat much more at one sitting! Scares me too!!! I can't fail... I have 10 more lbs to go to goal and it's taking me forever to get to it!!! I really need to get back on track! I wonder does the appetite grow as time goes on? When I'm 1 year out, will I be able to eat more than now?

We Need To Shout With Joy!

Great idea Margo! Here's my list: 1. I can get down on the floor at my son's school to help him with his boots and not worry about being able to get back up again. 2. I can hug my husband without bending at the waist to get my arms around him. 3. I'm more easygoing. Life just seems easier when it doesn't take as much effort to do the little things. 4. I don't obsess about my next meal. 5. I don't feel guilty about indulging my cravings because they have been drastically reduced and I won't be able to eat much anyways. 6. Like Cindy, I also take way more time with my appearance now. 7. My hubby was always attracted to me, but now... it's just better all around. 8. People are always telling me how great I look. That hasn't happened in years! 9. I can sit in the captain's chairs at the end of my kitchen table. I remember buying the table two years ago and thinking how dumb it was to spend money on chairs I couldn't fit into. 10. I don't feel like I ran a marathon after climbing the stairs. 11. I can shop at plus size stores again (I was out of 3X shirts at my highest so catalogs were my only option). 12. I eat less than my Mom!! She has always been small. She's always talking about how she eats 1/2 piece of toast for Breakfast and then is too full for lunch... Wahahahahahah!! Don't mistake me - she's an awesome mom and I love her dearly, but it still feels good!
  18. Hello i used Dr Jeffery Strain and Dr Ibraham out of Englewood Hospital 97 Engle St Englewood NJ phone #201-227-5533 he is great surgery date was 10/22/08 15 lbs down ....
  19. I was banded on October 22nd, and since then I have spent much time on this site finding answers to my questions, but until now, I have never had the guts to post a thread... I have 6 ccs in a 10 cc band. My surgeon has been rather aggressive with me. I have only lost 19 lbs. since the surgery (including the pre-op diet.) My question in this: I PB .....ALOT!! Almost every meal, and I wonder, is that because I am not chewing enough or could it be that my stomach is just full?? (I never get the same full sensation that I use to pre band.) And can this be a reason for the slow weightloss?

    Curves

I've been going to curves since 3 weeks post op.I have to say it has made a big difference. I was banded 11/07 and have only lost 60 lbs but I have gone down 10 pant sizes from 28 to 18 and my dr tells me I lost 50% of my body fat. I know that the curves workout is a big part of that. Also the clientele is great- there are all kinds of women there some old, young, fat and thin. I have found all of them to be really supportive and none of that competitiveness that is so common at other gyms. I highly recommend Curves.
  21. I'm 10 days out and that normal as swelling goes down..............

    Stomach acid

This might sound like a dumb question but does anyone know when the stomach after having the sleeve starts to only produce enough acid for our little tummies, or perhaps it just keeps producing at normal rate??? I still have a little reflux at 10 mths, never had it prior just in my throat...
  23. My diet during my 3 months of visits with the NUT consisted of 3 meals, with 3 oz of lean meat, veggies and a fruit. No snacking between meals, but was allowed a glass of milk 3 times a day, and I supplemented one of those with some Protein powder. I'm down 40 lbs (little over 10% of my TBW) since my first NUT visit in January. My bariatric center didn't make me lose weight, but they wanted me to start changing my lifestyle so I'd be successful after surgery. I say any diet will work for you, as long as you are determined to make it work! Good luck

Vitamin Deficiency, 13 years post op

My family doc also does my bloodwork. She wondered which tests I needed and I said, "I can google it for you" and she said, no.. she could get the list. She went out, and came back 10 minutes later with a comprehensive list. So they do have access to these things (or at least mine does). I was short on Vitamin A and D. With all your symptoms, it sounds like it is a given that you're needing some things. Please talk to your doctor about getting that bloodwork done every year. If they refuse, you need a new doctor. Since you are a bariatric patient, insurance companies understand the need for these tests. Hope you can get sorted out soon!
