What’s the reason why we can’t lift?

VGS David answered the question you asked. Dont think he was trying to be judgemental. If you ask professionals (also a nurse here) you will get a similar answer. Follow docs advise, consult your doc, etc. Now, you want to know other experiences? Maybe you will hurt yourself. Maybe you wont. You have to decide if it is worth the risk. Me? I listen to my docs and my body. My doc said not to lift over 10 pounds. Your doc was generous in saying 30 pounds. An adult human being weighs much more. Yes, you might hurt yourself. Or you could get lucky and be fine. I personally wouldn't risk it. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    14-day Pre-op Starts Today

Day 10 and I am at the point where I am not thinking about eating. I am also not caring for the shakes anymore. I am keeping my water intake up and drinking my broth. But I havent had SF jello since Monday. Cannot wait until Monday,
  4. Hi all, I’m 43 days out from my sleeve. I’ve lost 32lbs. I’m glad my weight is moving in the right direction, but I’m a little surprised at the slow pace. I lost 20 lbs in the first 10 days then stalled for over a week. Lost about 8 pounds over the next 2 weeks. Now it’s taken a lot of effort to get the last few pounds to come off. My surgeon told me everything was fine and my body needed time to catch up with the weight loss. I’m ok with that. I just assumed that starting at 390 lbs (5’8) a little bit more weight would have come off by now. My sleep has been a little off since coming back to work, but I walk as much as I can at work and try to walk for 30 mins at home. I still have a lot of lower back pain so I do what I can. I have noticed a little difference with the 30 lbs off though! Anyway, I’ve been following my nutritionists plan however after 6 weeks it is very vague concerning calories, carbs, fat, and sugar. All I know is to hit at least 60g protein and 64 oz of water. Beyond that I don’t know if I’m not eating correctly. I’ve reached out to her for advice, but in the meantime was curious what your limits are for daily calories, carbs, fat, and sugars. I like clear lines to follow lol some days I feel like I haven’t eaten enough or maybe I’m eating too much? I appreciate any input!

Weight Loss 8 weeks after VSG

First time doing any kind of forum on the computer so be patient with me. I'm scared I'm eating to much. When I went for my first check up I had lost 22 lbs in a month and she said it wasn't enough. They now have me on a 700-800 calorie diet. This isn't the weight loss doctor this is a doctor at the weight loss clinic. I had the band about 10 years ago, which they had to remove after a week because of infection, I so want this to work this time. Maybe the didn't make the sleeve tight enough? I also had a hernia operation, gallbladder, and they had to fix scar tissue from the lap band operation on the day I had my surgery.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

@FluffyChix I weighed in at 170.2 this morning. I still have at least 2 lbs to go, but I thinking I need to go down lower since the holidays are coming. I am not too worried but I also am not taking it lightly because we all know that 2 can turn to 5 which can turn into 10 ect. Yesterday I ate light but have been having lots of problems with my lumbar and neck for the past week and am taking pain meds the last 2 days which have caused bathroom issues. I didn't take any today. Yesterdays food was Brunch 3oz roast, 3/4 small potato, and a carrot. Dinner 2oz salad greens with tomato, cheese, avocado, bacon bits and 3 croutons. Ranch dressing 2 Tbl Snack 1oz almonds and a cupcake😜
  7. Hello to all you wonderful knowledgeable people, 14 months ago I had a mini gastric bypass, my starting weight was 249lb and I am now down to 128. I have been incredibly happy with the results and have had a pretty easy time of it. My dress size has gone from a UK 22 to a UK 6 trousers and 10 top. You may well be wondering so what's my problem... the thing is I am not losing any more weight and have probably sat at around 128 since the end of August, I still exercise regularly try and choose a healthy option, although a few too many glasses of wine have crept in. I suppose I just wondered is this simply a long stall or does your body eventually stop at the weight it is happy with. Please give any possible suggestion as to what to do next as I would ideally get down to 123 Many thanks Podgey
  8. I'm 8 weeks post op. I seem to have heck getting my first goal of 300. On monday I was 304. Today, weds, I'm 306. It's like my body is doing the same ol song and dance it used to. Not very promising seeing so many at the same timeline as me dropping like crazy. Anyone else have this problem? What do yall do to get going again? 5' 11" OP 9/16/19 HW 365 PO 343 CW 304

    Weight can lift after surgery?

Mine was 10 pounds for a couple weeks.
  10. For the past couple of weeks I’ve had a tingling feeling in my feet that would last for about 10 secs. Has anybody had this feeling?

    Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)

You're a male, right? To be 3 weeks PO and already eating things like beef sticks and jerky are not optimal. That is very new from surgery. At that time, I was only on soft foods stage, which a beef stick is not. I think if you're a dude, 100g is fine. Most are in a range from 80-100g per their docs. There is not usually a HUGE problem with protein malabsorption for RNYs and you had VSG, so even less issues. My surgeon said that the new bypasses don't have nearly as much malabsorption as previously believed...maybe 10%. But of course, there are outliers in all of us. Some of your stair stepping might be aggravated by the salt content in your food (beef sticks). But stairsteps are totes norm.
  12. Stop looking at the scale. Live your new life, keep walking your steps, hitting your water and protein goals. The weight will come off. It is NOT a linear loss. I have WEEKS where I lose nothing, and then all of a sudden I'll lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks.
  13. Head games are going on- We all have been there the stalls are common, switch it up a little - Try more water less food - then different foods, The stall will pass, if you search here you will see 100s of post on stalls, I broke mine doing a 10 day fast of water and supplements only, It broke in 5 days. Do not panic it will break - As for not motivated Why not? You have already lost 47 pounds - Get your ass in gear pound out the rest of them! Then reward yourself - For example i have a reward set once i hit my goal weight to just party my ass off in cuba for 3 days. Of course no food but as a guy just going to kick back and seize the day

    Highest weight

My two cents - my goal is 140 to be able to fit into size 8/10 clothing with room but I honestly think I would be okay with 150-160 just so I don’t look too sickly to everyone. Right now I want to reach the goal first. 😀
  15. I am 3.5 mths post sleeve and am also having back pain. Chiropractor says week mussels and my posture and weight is distributed different with my weight loss. No pain meds for me but I am getting mesage and chiro. New_Me 2019

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Today, Tues, Nov. 12 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.5 lbs ...had some friends drop by tonite bearing bottles of wine and snacks...I consider it a win I limited my wine intake to only 2 glasses. BTW, my self-imposed alcohol ban has been permanently lifted. My PPI-wean-off expirament seems to have proven that alcohol doesn't bother me as much as spicy foods, citrus, and laying down too soon after eating does. 10:00am - coffee w/ stevia + 2 earl grey teas w/ stevia 12:30pm - * ate about 2/3 of this * Salad greens + vinaigrette + 1/2 an avocado + 2.3 oz Air-fried Porchetta leftovers sans skin + Curried Chicken salad (2.8 oz grilled chicken + 0.8 oz gala apple + red onion + 1 tbsp homemade mayo + 1/2 tsp curry powder) 3:30pm - * ate the rest of the 12:30pm meal * + 1/2 cup full fat cottage cheese + 1.5 oz blueberries 6:30pm - Salad greens + vinaigrette + 1/2 avocado + 1 oz gala apple + red onion + 3 oz grilled chicken + 1 oz chicharron 10:30pm - 3 oz various cheeses + 3 oz various cured meats + 8 red grapes + 2 glasses of red wine Totals: 1882 cals - 125g Protein - 39g NET carbs - 113g fat

  18. I had NEVER "competed" in athletic events as an adult until after WLS. Yes, I was walking a lot and hiking, but I had not actually swum laps or ridden a bike in decades. Then a friend talked me into a sprint triathlon (swim 400 m, bike 14,2 miles, run/walk 5K). I thought, "I can do that now, " so I registered. I got a bike that suited me and started swimming. Oh my goodness, it was hard. I discovered my old shoulder injuries prevented me from a freestyle stroke, so I did my best with breast stroke. My ortho forbids me to run on my knee replacement, so I walk fast. It was a lot of work, but the fact that I had committed to someone and had registered, made me stick with it. When I finished, and got my participation medal, I was in tears - it was such a milestone moment. I have committed to another one in March - same distances, but now I have a lot more baseline training under my belt and I am working to perfect my breast stroke, learn to speed walk, and am working on my biking efficiency. I only want to better my own time - not beat anyone else, like that is even possible! I also am registered for the 50 mile bike race/ride in 10 days. Again, I might have given up if I had not already paid and made the commitment - and... I want another participation medal! So I think those paying registrations (especially if they go to a worthy cause) help to keep me on track with regular training. It would me so easy to skip a riding day, but I can't do that with a 50 mile event coming up. I also want to hike the 830 mile AZ trail, and have several friends who also want to do that . So we are marking our calendars for which segments we will do first. Next October we have committed to 2 northern segments that include the Grand Canyon - down and up in one day. (No medal, but I will definitely buy an "I did it" T-shirt! So I will need to get in a lot of hiking miles before that really BIG event! No room for failure - failure means a very expensive evacuation! Again, it is about built in accountability - making a commitment and having fun with people you know,
  19. Hello 👋🏼 so my revision surgery was on October 16/19 the night before surgery I weighed around 237lbs... almost a month out I’m 222... total loss of 15lbs... Haven’t lost anything in almost a week and I’m getting discouraged. I was told after 4 weeks I can start eating soft foods... do you guys have any recommendations? I’ve honestly been eating eggs 🥚 after I reached my 3rd week... I know I shouldn’t have but I got so tired of broth and protein shakes. I can eat 2 scrambled eggs in one day... I know that’s not much but that’s what I’ve been eating so far. I’m scared to eat mashed potatoes bc I loveeeeeee potatoes!!!! Lol ... any food ideas would be great... I get to see my nut in a week but for now I’ll take you guys suggestions thank you!

    Feeling Sad

a 10-20 lb rebound after you hit your lowest weight is unfortunately very common. Losing eight pounds should be do-able, though - much easier than 20 or 30. I had a 12 lb rebound, so I can relate - and yes, it's tough to take off - but some people do it by going back to basics. For some reason, I have a hard time doing this, though!!
  23. I have been having uncomfortable Back Spasms quite frequently. I have to take Aleeve to get rid of the pain. Any Ideas what is causing them? I also have to urinate a lot more through out the night when I sleep. I get up at least 4 times a night. Very hard to get a good night sleep. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Partner/ spouse support

When I got my lap band 10 years ago my husband was in good health and supportive of my decision. Now I need to revise it and he has some major health issues and I think he's afraid something will happen to me and then he won't have anyone to care for him. It's giving me some guilt, but being obese there's no assurance nothing will happen if I DON'T get the surgery. If I die from obesity issues he still doesn't have his help, so I'm going to get the bypass. Like all the other posters said in their wisdom, it's YOUR journey and you do it for you.
