    BANAJOR OR BUST! Surgery 4/3/06

Well no busting but I am 2 weeks post-op from Bajanor and very happy. I'm so glad to be rebanded and working my way down the scale. I loved the packet of post-op information they gave to take home and refer back to with any question. I've got my lil' banded card. I didn't get one with my first band or all the post-op information to take home just verbal directions. It was overall a very positive experience!

    June 5th is THE Day!

Congrats. If only everyone's journey only took 9 weeks that's quick! My surgery wont be until October or November. Congrats again and good luck!
  3. BUT i've been on liquids for a week, can feel myself being hungry, am hungry and haven't dropped a pound in a week! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Anyone else go through this ? Help!

About a week after my surgery, I was sooooo depressed and was acting like a total bitch to my DH. I'm not a big cryer (thanks to Lexapro), but there were several nights that I just cried my eyes out and was convinced that I should have never had the surgery. Granted I was still in some physical pain at that point and that was at least part of the problem. But I remembered my surgeon and nutritionist had warned me that I might go thru that, so that helped. Also, I had met a lady in the waiting room before my post-op appt that said she was very emotional immediately following her surgery but hers lasted about 6 weeks, mine was only about a week. IMHO, it is normal, or at least not abnormal to feel that way...don't lose faith. About your appetite - mine was exactly the same. The first week or so I had no appetite at all and I thought...cool, this is working. Then shortly after that it came back with a vengeance and it seemed like all I saw were commercials for food and I was practically drooling over them. It was luckily about that time that my doctor moved me to mushies and I could have FF refried Beans and very thin mashed potaotes....I thought I was in heaven and they really satisfied me. It really does go by quicker than you realize right now. In a couple of weeks you'll stabilize and you won't be obsessed with food so much...hang in there:thumbup:. All in all, everything you have posted I went thru myself but it has all leveled out now and I'm thrilled that I have had this done for myself and you will be too...just give it a little time, and it'll be okay....I promise!! Happy lap band journey to you!!
  5. Hi Everyone, Well I didn't really know what to expect the first week following the surgery and I'm experiencing a world of emotions as well as some physical symptoms? I'm curious if others have felt this way. 1. Has anyone else felt like they were depressed and their emotions are all over the place? Is this normal? 2. I've gone from feeling like I have no appetite at all ,to being obsessed with food I can't have right now and then back to no appetite? Anyone else? 3. I feel like i'm going through some sort of weird emotional detox, I never realized how much I depended on food for comfort although I knew I was an emotional eater before even having the surgery but this is hard. Any ideas on how to cope? 4. Has anyone else experienced a weird sensation ,when they sit up,almost like something is sticking you in the chest? 5. Last but not least,am I going crazy lol?

    Need help/motivation

It is hard when you dont drop what you expected to. I had read and read so knew i could have a slow start, but when it actually happened, i found it very disheartening but pushed through and just kept doing the right thing. I lost NONE until about mid way through the 3rd week but then started dropping a pound here and there. I still usually lose for 3 days then stay the same for 3-4 days...rinse and repeat. Just trust your sleeve, stick to the program, and it will work for you!
  7. good for you! I have only had 2 fills and i'm at 5.5 cc- I'm feeling more restriction now and I had my fill last week. I'm hoping that this feeling lasts for a while. I hope this is my sweet spot.

    Food Journal?

Same here, I found the best thing for me was to buy a composition book, on the left side of the paper I've got Water, Protein, calories and sugar (that's what my dietician want me to track) and then in the right paper I write the times I eat, drink, or take medicine/vitamins... Writing how much and of course if the food did not sit well. It's old school but I find it really easy.... I'm eating basically the same things so far, three weeks out and in the soft food diets, so it's easy to do this right now.
  9. I everyone. I'm almost 5 weeks out and I've been craving a hotdog on a bun with sauerkraut. Do you know or think I'll ever be able to have one. I figure not anytime soon but ever?
  10. Hi Danii, I'm in Perth Aust. My op was 18/7 so 5 weeks out for me. I've dropped 15kgs so far. I had dropped 15kgs in the first 3 weeks then put on 2kgs. My dr explained that was just the body rehydrating and now I've lost that too. But I noticed that even though the scales haven't been moving much the last couple weeks, my cms have dropped. So yeah I would say your loss seems great and very on par

    Hungry Or Not????

If you had asked me a month or two ago, if I had a sweet tooth, I would have said yes!! However, I have noticed that since the preop diet, I haven't had any "cravings" for sweets like before. Before, I could think about a sweet and just have to go get it. I even noticed that when I went out to eat with the family this week, one child ate ice cream and the other ate a piece of cheesecake, I didn't even desire them. Talk about a shock because these are two of my FAVORITE desserts! Having said that, for my Protein shakes on the liquid diet, I did choose the chocolate flavor and now that I am on mushies, my yogurt is key lime pie flavor. So I guess I am getting my sweet fix flavor without the calories of the real thing.
  12. I just had mines last week. It took about 30 minutes once I was actually called back. It took longer to get through all of the paperwork than it did the procedure. Be prepared, the barium is awfully thick.

    Is This Normal??

It's likely because as you've lost weight, the fat layer surrounding your stomach as shrunk, so now the band isn't nearly as tight. I was great for about 6 weeks after my 3rd fill then all the sudden had the same thing happen, totally starving hungry all the time. I got another fill in May and now the hunger has been gone ever since.

    Is This Normal??

I had the exact same problem. I was told this is normal, the nurse told me the saline settles in the nooks and crannys sometimes so thats why i suddenly was hungry after not being hungry for 2 weeks. ( 3rd fill) same prob now after my 6th fill so im going for a 7th next week. She said everybodys different, you just have to go with what YOUR body wants and needs.

    Surgery during school

I am scheduled in October and I've been worried about missing school. I have a week off in September I was really hoping I could get it done but no such luck. I have surgery on a Wednesday and I am hoping I can go back to class on Monday. I know it will be rough but I'm hoping I'll at least be able to sit through class and take it easy. Stricture questions

The gurgling is pretty normal post-sleeve, so don't worry about that. I had a stricture that was fixed during a routine EGD. For me, the stricture made getting *anything* that was not liquid nearly impossible, even something as simple as applesauce or mashed potatoes. I experienced extreme acid reflux and began aspirating stomach acid, and ended up sleeping in a recliner because I couldn't sleep any other way. The pain was pretty constant, and I only got relief from keeping a heating pad on my stomach and drinking warm liquids as much as I could tolerate. I don't know that stricture would show up so soon post surgery as I believe it's a result of the opening in the pouch healing too tightly. One week out you're still swollen and healing. You're probably still on clear liquid diet or possibly progressing to full liquids. Unless it gets intolerable, I wouldn't worry at this point.
  17. Hi Ms. Bee, I'm looking for buddies too. I don't live in the south just yet. Looking for a buddy or three! My surgery is the end of April. I'm having the sleeve as well. Have you been an overeater for many years? Can't wait to be on the losers bench.
  18. I am 16 months post op on 11/23. I have lost 60 pounds and have recently started working 2 full time jobs and unfortunately gained 4.5 pounds. I realized this and have decided to follow the pre-op and post-op diet to a T just to get myself back on track. Today is day 2 of liquids. I had a 5 day liquid diet before surgery and then 1 week liquids, 1 week mushies, 1 week soft and then the 4th week slowly introduced solid protein and veggies back in to my diet. Thanksgiving I will allow some solid foods but only for that day and only 1 meal. The liquid diet is definitely an eye opener to how reliant I am still on food. I am in this for success and will make it there. I have about 44-49 pounds I would like to lose. I am 194 right now and a size 14/L. I started out at 250ish and was in a size 20-22 and a 2xl shirt. I just stared getting really comfortable with my size and realized I need to lose even more to be healthy. I am not in this to get "skinny", I am in this to be healthy. I will get there. Down 1.5 pounds in 2 days. Wish me luck!!!

    Three Questions About Vsg...

I didn't have to jump through any insurance hoops. My BMI was very high at 50 when I met with doctors and insurance approved same day. The doctors I went to is a 1 stop shop. I went in for the consult and in same day did all tests, psych, insurance approval and scheduled my surgery date...which is now tomorrow! (it was scheduled 7 weeks ago) My dr. put me on 3 week pre-op because I have so much to lose. I have not had to supply my insurance.(Blue Cross PPO) with anything. I had to go back to dr. For more blood work, endoscopy procedure and then pre-op dr. Appointment. I think my experience has been easier than most in dealing with insurance...I've been very lucky. Best of luck in your process!
  20. Okay. I'm reading through this site as much as I can every day. (I'm way pre-op--first appt in mid-Aug.) A couple of things have started bugging me, so I thought I'd ask the experts (namely, all of you!). 1. I see the there is a WIDE variance in what surgeons and insurance companies ask you to do pre-op. Which tests, what diet, how long, etc. So here's my question: is it possible to lose so much weight running through the pre-op hoops that the insurance company, which initially looked hopeful, now says, "Whoa, we think you can lose and maintain the your weight yourself?" I mean, is this pre-op diet ever a real hurdle to surgery down the pike? 2. What if you don't have the "standard" morbidities? Like, suppose someone had a life-threatening anaphylactic allergy to dust mites that is compounded by heavy weight? Or, suppose someone has had brain surgery for an aneurysm and was told that high blood pressure doesn't help in the possible recurrence of another aneurysm? I'm just sayin'..... What if it's other stuff? Does this, so to speak, weigh in with the insurance companies? 3. One of the things that really strikes me in this is that a) we're all pretty much powerless over food; we (at least I) hate being powerless; c) we decide on surgery (which is, like, a totally pro-active, life-affirming thing to do), and then, boom! d) the insurance company makes us, well, powerless again. Is anybody else really, really ticked off about this? I should add that I haven't actually experienced any of the above--okay, I've experienced #2. But I'm asking because I am trying to get a healthy mindset for my appointment in August. I really want this whole process to be one of dialogue and decision--not too much edict. Are people--surgeons and insurance--generally willing to work with you? I'd really appreciate your thoughts and insight on these. Thanks in advance. DeterminedGirl

    I Hate Steri Strips

lol.. boy.. i think you need a clone machine. lol. i think you are doing a marvellous job. Way to go. REgarding the steri strips and your skin reaction... i had that as well. in fact i came up in watery blisters that were huge. plus a very red inflamed area around each one. It took a few weeks for the reaction to die down. i was using calamine lotion on mine and it helped a lot with the itch. theres not a lot else you can do really. dont try and remove any blisters or skin. antihistimines are good... plus a lotion like i used is very good. i still get a bit itchy, 2 months out, but i can have a little scratch now and its not hurting anything. Good luck. i hope your mum is better soon. my mum is pretty much full on at the moment as well.

    ..:::Turbo Fire:::...

I have Turbo Fire and I was doing it before my surgery and I'm hoping to start it once it again. It's very fast but they show you how to modify everything. You can also try Turbo Jam, it's by Charlene as well and it's like Turbo Fire, but not as ampped. LOL I was banded on 6/9 and I have to wait til 3 weeks to do ad workouts so I'm hoping to start again next week. She also has great music.

    Swollen stomach

Give it time. Your body takes roughly 6-weeks to heal.
