Gain Pounds, Lose Fat? Very Curious
mariamitani replied to JolieBug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started exercising I stopped losing weight and gained a little. I think it could be water retention for the muscles to heal. I'm now loosing less since I started exercising but Im getting a firmer sculpted body. If weightloss is your only goal now stick to cardio exercises. you will drop the weight fastet doing these types of exercises. If you dont a combination of both is the best way to do it. I was losing around 2.75 pounds per week now its 1.75. I still have 42 pounds to loose and dont want it to take forever im contemplating going to cardio only exercises but muscle burns more than fat! I guess it all comes down to how long you want the weightloss to take. -
I meet my maybe surgeon on Thursday. I'm so anxious and excited. How do I pass the time? I made a list of things I want.... Not look around to figure out if I'm the heaviest person in the room Worry that my chair will break, squeak, crack under my weight BE DONE WITH THE CPAP!!! RUN! I WANT TO RUN! Fit comfortably in a booth Chase my daughter Take less medication Be alive when my daughter graduates, gets married, has a baby, rasies her kids Retire healthy Be truly happy At lease LIKE my body Does anyone else have a list?

I plan to get a new license when I go register my new car sometime this week. For my last license I finally decided to be accurate about my weight so now it is really off!

Okay, I think I can answer this one! The band is adjusted to allow an individual to lose 1-2 lbs per week until goal. I believe at that point, some of the restriction is taken out, therefore, letting you maintain but not gain. But, once a bandster, always a bandster and the bandster rules and eating changes made with the band have to be adhered to regardless of the fill level. HTH Jacky

for once i have been told to gain weight and i cant!
LeighaMason replied to babyk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only time I can think of that I need to gain weight is when I go scuba diving. When I scuba dive I have to use these little weights that slip into my pockets to make me sink, a pound in each front pocket and 2 pounds in each back pocket. Plus the ones that slip into the ankle straps that keep my ankles from from floating up, I think they hold at least a 3 pounds each. I rent them at the scuba shop. -

Gastric Sleeve Newbie with LOTS of ?'s
bigbang52 replied to skinny18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How much you lose is up to you. Typically they say about 60% of excess weight but it can be more or less depending on your ability and desire to exercise and eat right. But the battle isn't with your stomach- it's with your mind. We have an addiction and you have to treat it as such. And getting active will help. I took up swimming because I have bad knees and it's been great. For a few weeks to a few months eating will be much different than you're used too. Full very fast. EAT SLOWLY. If you overeat I guarantee you will only want to do it once. Follow the plan your doctor gives you and don't deviate. They have a reason they do what they do. You will gradually be able to eat more but never like you used to. I just had my first ice cream in 4 years. 1 scoop filled me up. And no real desire to have more. The quantity you'll be able to eat will vary depending on what you're eating and how fast. But don't push it. I've had to find other things to replace my eating. I can still eat most things just in much smaller quantities. I don't do rice or much pasta or potatoes as they fill me up very fast and no room for the healthier- and tastier- things. I felt great after surgery. Told the doctor I've had worse paper cuts. No pain, no gas, no upset stomach. But I'm one of the lucky ones. Expect some problems like gas and just have a heat pad ready - it helps. There can be complications- that's true with any surgery but, again, follow instructions for hygiene and type of food. Excess skin? Oh yeah! I've lost about 250 pounds and I look like a partially deflated balloon. But I'm working at losing some more to have skin removal. Need a BMI of around 35 before that happens. How long again is a matter of how much and how fast you lose. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! I wish I had done it 10 years before I did. But fear kept me from trying. I heard a quote bt Will Smith. " God puts the best things in life on the other side of fear." How true! Finally I would recommend a book called Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies. Very informative. Good luck -
Nope. Sorry. You can use weights to tone but it won't do anything for the skin - though it might help fill out the skin a little if that makes sense.... Your body will shift around a LOT during your loss phase. You just have to dress as best as you can and realize that it is all for the better in the end. I reached goal several months ago but even though my weight has stayed the same, people keep saying I look thinner - and it is just the "parts" shifting around. PS - My brachioplasty is in 5 weeks. Can. Not. Wait!!

Anyone lose a bunch before surgery?
shrinkinggrl replied to GeorgieGirl1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GG I am in a stall right now...the dreaded "3rd week stall". Yargh. So I am having the same panicky thoughts. Sigh. Oh, well. I know that logically I am eating too few calories NOT to lose weight. But it really is disheartening to see that # freeze in place. I need to back away from the scale and not go near it for a few days or a week. Hope you are fabulous! -
Anyone lose a bunch before surgery?
jenn20 replied to GeorgieGirl1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 55 pounds in 5 months before surgery and right now I am 5 weeks out and have lost 30 pounds. I actually thought this same exact questions the night before surgery. I thought...'well I have been eating very little before the sleeve already, so would it make a big difference after surgey? Will I still loose the weight like everyone else?'..... and the answer is yes! so don't worry about it. By the way congrats on loosing that weight! It only makes it closer to goal!! You loose so fast in the beginning that it makes you only jump closer to goal by loosing that weight before surgery! Good luck on your journey and keep us posted! -
I'm 42, married and have two kids. One is gone to university and the other has two years of high school left. Been married 21 years. I'm in the Canadian Army and am in my 24th year. I love what I do, and can't think of doing anything else...plan to work until I'm 50ish, then should be in a good position to call it quits. I am trained to fix army kit, concentrating on electronics, however I'm more supervisory these days. I love life and leisure. I don't need a bunch of people or friends, as I believe in quality, not quantity... My wife is my best friend and I wouldn't have it any other way. We love vacationing together, and spending time with our kids, but we do realize they are growing up, and want lives of their own. I like to work out and get sweaty, spend time in the sun, read, walk, jog, listen to music and watch movies. My band journey started in Feb 2010 when a coworker told me his story of how he lost a bunch of weight and planted the idea in my head. After some consults and preop I was on the table on June 22nd 2010. My starting weight was 265. It's been good for me. At first the weight tumbled off but things have slowed significantly. I'm good with it. I can eat almost anything as long as i take my time.. i've had refux issues am on Pantaloc to help with that. of my 10cc band im roughly at 9.25 cc's and that isvthe max i can go without the reflux giving me severe issues. i still Get the occasional blockage and i know my slider foods. im trying to maintain a plateau right now so im trying to live as "normal" as possible. The band has certainly helped with my key issue of overeating and gorging, the rest is up to me to pick better choices. you dont change 39 years of bad habits in 3... it takes time, and as long as the numbers are in my favor, its all good. I'm in the best shape of my life, healthy and plan to live a long time.

Getting ready to visit the PCP to get a referral for the band. Advice?
Alexandra replied to kimster's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Kim, Here's the link to the thread that has a couple of appeal letters in it: http://lapbandtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2527&perpage=15&pagenumber=2 At this point all you're doing is getting a referral from your PCP to explore weight-loss surgery. Don't worry about what TYPE of surgery yet; that's not a call for your PCP to make. Once you get the referral to a surgeon, start going for all the diagnostic tests and whatnot that the surgeon requires. The first step is to get the doctors and Kaiser to agree that you are a good candidate for surgery at all. Then it's your surgeon who will be putting in the request for pre-cert for the surgery itself, and at that point you need to be all over the lap-band vs RNY thing. Make sure the surgeon's office requests the correct surgery, and if you are denied make sure you know exactly why. Then take it from there. Good luck!! -
Been hell at school today - some vile kids and organizing my cover for next week and told my line manager I might not be in for 2 weeks as people seem to think I'll be sore for longer than I thought. At least all the activity and a staff meeting after school took my mind off tomorrows events! The nurse called this evening to ask a few questions and explain what'll happen tomorrow - she asked how my pre op diet was going (what pre op diet?) then she went on about someone who'd lost half stone for her op (Why have the op if you can lose weight so easily??). I have this nagging feeling that if anyone is going to fail with the band .. it's bound to be me. I know that's not fighting talk and if I heard anyone say that sort of thing I'd say they're doomed to fail.. please let it work for me!! I'm worrying now about the actual operation now and I must focus on the good that'll come out of all this and think beyond the op itself. Time to pack my bag and get things ready for the kids.. I promise I'll be back to tell what happens - if not.. well:straight

great job on the swimming. that is great exercise. am also glad you stopped weighing as much because sometimes the scale is just not right and if you gain (for whatever reason) it just ruins your happy attitude esp when you KNOW you are on it and doing fabulous. as long as you are losing inches, then you are losing and i know you are. good luck on the upcoming fill -

The Skinny on My Decision
Kandi commented on ALuv82's blog entry in The Skinny: A Journey Through Lap-Band Surgery
I am right there with you...I will have my Lap-band surgery on the 15th of Jan. Your blog says a lot! I made my decision to check into the surgery when I had gained so much weight back after I quit smoking. I have the high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and was told that I am a diabetic after seeing the surgeon. I know that I need to make the change for me and no one else! Kandi -
What is the recovery for breast lift with argumentation and tt
blondebomb replied to hkdontplay's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had reduction/lift done 15 yrs ago. I had been 40/42 DD for many many yrs even when I was smaller and the morning after my surgery still admitted I was scared to look! I was a few days before I could stomach looking. the pain for me was minimum and I stayed numb on the incisions for many yrs. I was soo happy to get it done. was such a relief. I'm really shocked after 100 pd weight loss to date that I mine have NOT deflated yet! lol...will see how or what happens to mine when I get another 30 to 40 off! My tummy will be next myself. Even after 32 yrs and 2 kids my tummy never went back to pre pregnancy form. that I am looking forward to!
