  1. Hi. Please don't think I am saying this to be mean spirited. If you gained 10 pounds while you thought you were dieting I think you should avoid fruit in your smoothy. The reason I say this is it sounds to me like you need to be more focused on serving sizes. I know it's a drag but start measuring everything that you eat. Even in the smoothy. Measure out 8 ounces of fat free milk, don't just glug it in. Over weight people are notoriously bad (myself included) at accurately determining serving sizes. Also measure out 8 oz pour it into your drinking glasses and coffee mugs. I discovered one of my mugs was 12 oz when I thought it was 8. So I would have been having 1 1/2 portions. I was on my own preop diet for 7 months and lost 50 pounds. The week presurgery I did 1 Protein shake for Breakfast and another for dinner, with a low cal/fat high protein lunch. I was including fruit in the smoothy but my nutritionist said post op NO fruit. Post op your stomach is healing and it should not be moving around trying to digest fruit.

    almost a month!!

Hi Dean, I was banded May 15th and I had my first fill today. I lost 10 pounds since surgery and the nurse said that was very good! She said a lot of patients don't lose anything in the first month and some even gain. So don't worry about it, you're doing great. We're all anxious to lose the weight fast but it's really not healthy to lose it too fast. You're on a new journey and the weight WILL come off!

    I can't burp!?!

the reason for the diarreah is because what goes in liquid comes out liquid. that is the only reason. As for the burping it took me a good week in order to burp, at first i felt like i always had to and this strong pain and i couldn't. But now...it all flows accordingly. I couldn't even yawn either, but we are good know. You will improve 400% each day, at least i did. I was never in pain, just tightness...ok pain when sitting and getting up from a down position...but it was just like i over exerted my abs that is all. I have a whole bunch of drugs, but never took any......The gas, once it comes out you will feel SSSOOOOO much better!! I wish you a fast recovery, i am still in shock on how much better i got day to day! ( banded 10/17)
  4. Hello ! :) *sorry this will be long* I created an account because I really needed to talk to someone who understands what I’m going through. I have a lot of support from family and friends but all they can tell me is “hang in there” I need some sort of answers because I’ve been really regretting this surgery. I need to know that things will eventually turn around because I don’t know how long I can keep living like this. After my surgery (1/22/2020) I was admitted 3 times back into the hospital due to dehydration, nausea and vomiting. The dates were : Feb 3rd to 6th Feb 15th to 18th Feb 27th to Mar 3rd After those dates the doctors that I spoke to thought it would be a good idea to get fluids every other day in my hospitals infusion center. I went 2 days and was feeling fine, was able to eat - no nausea or vomiting. With COVID-19 being a very serious thing my hospitals infusion center is closed and i’m not sure for how long. I ended up becoming weak and all the symptoms for dehydration came back. I went to the ER, they gave me my fluids and I went home but I’m still dealing with nausea and GERD. I’ve been dealing with kinda slimy saliva and foamy vomit and it’s after any little thing I eat or drink. EVEN WATER and it’s upsetting I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to go back to the hospital with everything happening now. Can someone help please? If anyone had time to read this thank you I’m sorry it was long I’m just desperate and have been depressed over this. Please be safe wherever you are too.

    New to the sleeve

I had a lap band placed in 2011. On the 9th of this month, I had it removed, a hiatal hernia repaired, and a sleeve done. I have so many mixed feelings about this whole thing. 10 days post op and wishing I had just had the band removed. Anyone else super emotional and not sure they made the right choice?

    Too easy?

I'm 19 PO and the same here. Other than the sudden onset of hopefully temporary lactose intolerance not one problem. I think I took one pain pill after returning home the day after surgery. I am averaging a loss of a pound a day. Had the same concerns of whether or not the doctors did the surgery as directed cause I had no problems. I think all of the horror stories and "Wish I knew that before surgery" vlogs it was natural to be concerned for a lot of us. Thinking we were supposed to have issues but then not kind of threw us for a loop. Consider yourself lucky/blessed when you are a success!!!

    Someone Noticed!

Good for you!!! It is nice... I've been the same weight for over 9 months now and within 10 pounds for well over a year and my brother just now commented on my weight loss after he got my Christmas card. He's a little out of it I've decided... Keep up the great work!!!

    Just Starting

    I had to have full lab work...ekg...stress test..sleep apnea test...psych eval...nutritionist visit......mandatory support groups...and lose 10% of my weight
  10. I’m worried that I’m not being realistic about time off from work. I realize that it can’t be predicted because of possible complications and I can go on FMLA leave if something does happen. But I’m trying to get a handle on whether I’m going to need more than 10 days total before I go back to work. That’s what I have avail in paid time off. I have an office job, no heavy lifting, some walking around (which I think will be good for me). I’m a pretty tough cookie - not a wimp when it comes to pain or discomfort. I was back to work less than a week after laparoscopic gall bladder removal. Does that compare at all to how recover from bypass surgery might be?
  11. Don't stress about it!!! I stressed the same way you are. You are approved and so just keep doing your liquid diet if its what the surgeon requires from you. If your just doing it to lose the 10 pounds and the surgeon didn't tell you to then don't do the liquid but eat sensible until you have to do one. I worried myself sick over this and once I was approved after my 6 months of weigh in my weigh ins really didn't effect anything. Now if you were to gain 20 pounds or so before surgery the surgeon might not think your ready yet and cancel till you are but don't stress you've got this now!!! Getting approved is the biggest hurdle
  12. Well i got approved with some extra documentation. i ducked out of here because i had gone on the 2 shake diet, lost 14 lbs and then they told me I was going to have to do weight watchers for 6 months. So I compleatly wigged out because the surgery planner told me to just maintain that weight for six months. They said if; lost too much more, i wouldn't be covered. I have to be over 40 Bmi even with all my medical problems. I have never been a weight I needed to maintain...so no surprise, I now have 10 lbs to Lose again. Once my doc faxed over the proof of weigh once a month at his office, they approved it. Sooooo my pre-op class is Friday at 8 am. They are calling me back to schedule a surgery date. It could be this month, I will have to waiting and see....but I am approved. I am mad at myself for the weight gain...now I am back to shakes starting tonight since I already ate lunch. I am feeling very nervous now. I am worried I won't lose it in time...I am going to have to be close by Friday.....how am I going to lose 10 lbs by Friday? Any suggestions? I know it is my fault for reacting in this way and I know it is my responsibility to lose this weightl but I am seriouse about this...please help it you can.

    Post-Surgery Swelling

I was sleeved on March 10 and just noticed the swelling going down this weekend, March 19 or so. I'm still kind of swollen but it has diminished a lot.

    Hi New here

Hi Corey, congratulations on your upcoming surgery.. I bet you are soo excited!! Thank you for your words of encouragement look forward to seeing your success story! Sumslim2b- Welcome I am excited/nervous everything all in one.. And becoming obsessed! This is all I seem to be able to think of! It's hard to believe somewhere in the future I could be in a size 10 or 8 I want to do this for myself but a huge motivating factor is my son - he is only 5 months old but I just want to be happy and healthy for him and teach him how to live a healthy lifestyle! But I know exactly what you mean I think I will eat everything & anything that I know I won't be having in my new life - so begins my breakup with unhealthy food
  15. I Just self paid for my surgery on 10/14/13! My eyes are filled with tears and I am filled with excitement and fear all at once. THIS IS COMPLETELY REAL NOW!

    Self pay for surgery

Congratulations!! I am little envious! I have been getting screwed around by insurance for nearly 10 months. Would you mind telling me how much the total for your surgery is? I am close to giving up and paying on my own.

I had a GREAT workout last night, my DH & I went to the gym and I worked my upper body out. I worked it so hard, I felt like mush when I left. But it sure felt good to be back in the gym workout out like i used to do! I'm excited to be back in the program! I can't wait for 1 month from now, because I know if I am consistant, the results will start showing. Menu today Bfast 1/2 cup skim milk, grapenuts cereal (about 1/2 cup) Snack yogurt Lunch tomatoe soup (this is the last of my container, thank gawd, getting tired of it, but it is good) snack - handful of nuts Dinner 1/2 cup of beans & ham - yum Exercise 10:00 am - 15 min on elliptical 2:30 pm - 22 min of HIIT - burned 181 calories, and 1.71 distance Gym - my plan is go tonight and work my lower body - the abs are screaming for crunches!

    Fills

You should get some topical numbing cream, like EMLA... then shut your eyes and tell him to do it quick! If nothing else, you should be getting your fill BECAUSE you're not reaching that 10 lb. mark! Go get your fill on Wed. I'm sure you'll be happy you did. Good luck!
  20. That's so exciting. I was just banded on 10/16. I know what you mean about waiting forever. I hope all goes well and keep us posted.

    Sleevers over age 55?

56-it took me a little longer than normal to overcome the anesthesia...couple extra hours in recovery, six weeks of attention & memory issues, but after 10+ weeks I'm back to my normal forgetfulness & word retrieval issues!

    Sleevers over age 55?

I am 62, have already lost 15, and from this point on will have 80-90 lbs to lose, I will have the sleeve in three months, I hope. Insurance requires a 6-month supervised weight loss program with three consequitive months. I have had those three. I was so gung ho and ready to roll, and now the waiting seems tortuously slow. So I am using this time to prepare myself to do things the right way when it FINALLY happens. This is a great resource. Anyone want to share your top tips? (Pre-Op or Post Op). I'll collect and post a list of the top tips I receive. (At least the top 10). Might be fun to also do a humorous TOP TEN SLEEVE List ala Letterman. Send either. Thanks.

    Not really losing

Lisalisa1212. I am 5 months out and have gone from 268 to 199, so I don't think you are doing too bad. I had a stall that started about a month ago that lasted for three weeks and even now I'm loosing again, but it is really slow. I think the days of loosing 10 pounds per month are over. A lot depends on your starting weight, what did you loose before surgery, your sex, and age. It is hard to compare yourself to others. DrPitt2b you seem to be on much more than a stall. Have you talked to your Dr about the results?
  24. I was banded on 6/13 and weighed in at 216... I have been on full liq/mushies, with restriction and only 700 calorie a day intake and my weight hasn't changed.. I am kinda freaking... My doctor said its normal, but someone please reassure me!!!

    Bell Cell Phone

What has always worked for me in getting new phones with Rogers and Bell is to talk to them... how long is left on your plan? Ask them why they treat new customers better than the people who are already paying their bills? As for retention Customer Care, if you don't have too long left on your contract they need to tell you what it would cost to buy out the contract there is a max they can charge you regardless of the contract length and that formula is$20 per month up to $200. But I have found if I am polite and ask the big question, why are you treating a paying customer like crap? Tell them what services you have with them such as home phone, sateliite etc etc. Make them see you as a valued customer. I haven't paid for a phone with Rogers or Bell in the last 10 years or so. Good luck just don't lose your temper with them then they get nutty..
