    Feeling Sad

a 10-20 lb rebound after you hit your lowest weight is unfortunately very common. Losing eight pounds should be do-able, though - much easier than 20 or 30. I had a 12 lb rebound, so I can relate - and yes, it's tough to take off - but some people do it by going back to basics. For some reason, I have a hard time doing this, though!!
  3. I have been having uncomfortable Back Spasms quite frequently. I have to take Aleeve to get rid of the pain. Any Ideas what is causing them? I also have to urinate a lot more through out the night when I sleep. I get up at least 4 times a night. Very hard to get a good night sleep. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

When I got my lap band 10 years ago my husband was in good health and supportive of my decision. Now I need to revise it and he has some major health issues and I think he's afraid something will happen to me and then he won't have anyone to care for him. It's giving me some guilt, but being obese there's no assurance nothing will happen if I DON'T get the surgery. If I die from obesity issues he still doesn't have his help, so I'm going to get the bypass. Like all the other posters said in their wisdom, it's YOUR journey and you do it for you.

I'm a few days behind... time to catch up on my gratitude! Day 9 gratitude: Without question, it was China (although I haven't done much international travel, so someday this could change!) I was with my best friend when she adopted her son. It was a life changing experience in so many ways. Day 10 gratitude: An odd choice, but I am grateful for video games. Even though my choices were really limited in early childhood (Atari!), I actually learned a lot of very useful life skills from video games, and bringing that love into adulthood helped me form some of the friendships I have today. Day 11 gratitude: Another odd choice, but probably the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The community around the show helped me through my difficult teen years, and as an adult, I still find that movie worming its way in to my life. Runners up would probably be the two movies I quote most often, Airplane! and Spaceballs Day 12 gratitude: 3 people, huh? If I could only choose three, I guess I'd have to say my husband, my mother, and my best friend. B-Side Question: What would you tell past/future you if you could? I would tell past me to hang in there and to try to care much less what other people think. B-Side Question: How has your S/O been handling all of the changes since WLS? Like a champ, though it helps that he's also probably having WLS himself next year, so he's acutely aware of pretty much all things related to it, good and bad.

Where did my menopause symptoms go?

51 now.... Dx menopausal this past Marchishhhh.... I was sweating for no reason (this coming from someone that keeps a heater on all day under my desk). and like many others, as fast as they would come on, they would go away. I was having a few a week. Most of the time at night. I also started having mood swings. My Gyn put me on ESTRATEST (esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone) 1.25 mg of Esterified Estrogens, USP and 2.5 mg of Methyltestosterone. This worked fine for the flashes and moods, but it also made me gain weight. So i stopped taking them. Yes the flashes and swings came back. Aug 28, 2019 got sleeved and im down to 144.2 from 173.5 as of today. So last week i decided to give the pills another chance... well i got married in sept. and now have different insurance and they don't cover this one. So now im on only Estrogen.... So, not sure if the flashes and swings stopped because of the WLS or the pill.....We shall see.

I’m a bit behind with this, its been a crazy weekend! Day 9: What place have you traveled that you are most grateful for? I’ll go with NYC! I just love the whole vibe. I go every year and each time I go, I find something new I love about the city. My favorite time to visit is in December, a couple weeks before Christmas. I love the holiday markets, Christmas décor, shows, etc. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of going! B-Side Question: How has your S/O been handling all of the changes since WLS? He’s been amazing. Throughout this process and even before my decision he’s always been very supportive of me. As corny as it may sound, he believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. He’s happy I’m losing weight and it has even motivated him to live a healthier lifestyle. Luckily for him, he really doesn’t need to lose much weight, but he’s been meal prepping to avoid snacking and has been trying to gain more muscle. Day 10: What are you most grateful for in your childhood? I’m most grateful for my dad. He was my rock during my childhood because he was my mother and father and raised me on his own. I owe him everything for that. He worked so hard to make sure I had everything and that I would never feel that void of not having a mom. Day 11: What movie are you most grateful for? There are too many!! Here’s the list of a few: ALL Marvel films, especially Avengers & X-Men (hence my username) Harry Potter All the John Wick movies (IM OBSESSED) The new Star Wars movies Blockers Gone Girl Prisoners Savages 12 Years a Slave Coco Girls Trip Django Straight Outta Compton Fast and Furious movies Southpaw Ex-Mechanica
  10. Well, I am pretty new into the endurance events - finished a sprint tri last month and doing a 50 mile bike event in 2 weeks. I am totally experimenting with nutrition at this point - but finding a LOT of energy and good recovery with WFPB (whole food plant based.) It is pretty amazing who many world class athletes use this eating lifestyle to enhance their performance and reduce recovery time. So far, the RX bars which have 24 carbs, but also 12 gm of protein are working for me during training. (I do not eat sugar - it makes my joints swell and I hurt all over. ) I know I need to add some electrolytes to my water, so this week I am looking at some protein/electrolyte additions to see how that goes. It's good to know there are other bariatric surgery athletes out there! You know, only 10% of the US population will ever compete in an endurance event, and very few bariatric patients. That kind of puts us in a very small minority of people who have overcome literally huge obstacles (our own bodies) to achieve athletic goals. Congrats to all!!!

    The Maintenance Thread

@ms.sss I get it as well. As I've stated before, I feel I am slightly too thin at my current weight. I was happier with my naked body 10-15 lbs ago. But still, I can't help but feel a little thrill when the scale drops. I always weigh my self naked, before eating or drinking anything for the day, and after using the toilet, so I can get my absolute lowest weight. I have no idea why it even matters to me. Conversely though, I'm not bothered when my weight goes up, as long as it doesn't go above my "line in the sand", 130, and stay there. But even that top weight I allow myself is below my original goal of 140. So I am defending a lower weight than I had originally thought I would. But that goal was just arbitrary. I was my high-ish weight in my 20's and the top of healthy BMI. I didn't think I could or would go lower than that. But right now my body seems to want to stay in the 127-130 window. So it doesn't make sense to me to fight it and try to gain. The big question for me is after plastics ... what do I do with my weight. Part of my reasoning to defend this lower weight is to be lean for plastics and get better results. But after, I would theoretically like to fill out a little, particularly my butt, thighs and arms. (Although my ps is adamantly against this) Do I try to gain? Even for me, I can't wrap my head around eating to try to gain. Do I just let a bounce happen? Do I learn to love this thinner version of me? As a side note, my face actually looks dramatically different and better at this lower weight, then it did a year ago & +20 lbs ago. So if I do bounce, will it go back into my face? Are my facial changes in the last year more about my fat redistributing, or did I actually lose some of my weight in my face?

    14-day Pre-op Starts Today

Today is day 5 of my 10 day pre-op diet. It’s been going well except I’m really craving food at night. Started to get a little dizzy yesterday and I’ve had a headache for a couple of days (which is not unusual for me!). 11/18 is coming up fast now!

Where did my menopause symptoms go?

IDK!! I’ve had 3 private summers since my GB on 10-2-19 but I used to have one or more every hour - every day!! It’s great, isn’t it?!! All I can say is Good Riddance!!

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

I also double posted. I felt the need to defend my weight loss. It’s work getting to goal. I was preparing for the 10+ weight bounce, fear of regain, and the scale affected how I feel about myself. I felt great when the scale was at its lowest. I felt like I failed this process with a slight gain. It has taken years to work out some of these things. You are doing great.

Oh no I'm sorry, it is a time full of major changes! My relationship has gotten better (I"M 10 mos out) but He goes to all support meetings and participated and tries to really learn. Tell him that you don't want this to hurt your relationship and that you would like him to come with you, and learn about what people go through, and how things change. Tell him you want to change and grow with him by your side.

What is the right amount of food?

3 weeks and 19 pounds is fantastic. All instructions are different, what does your plan say for puree stage? Are you hitting your protein goal for the day? Do you log your food in an app? My instructions are five years old. I was told to get in 60 to 100 grams of protein. I had to use a combination of protein shakes and pureed food to hit my protein goal. Hunger was more manageable as I progressed to real food stage.
  19. I’m 3 weeks post op only lost 19 lbs and on purée stage. I feel eating 4 oz of purée doesn’t seem to be enough. I’m calculating 2 oz of protein and 2 oz of veggies with broth. I still felt hungry so also added 1 oz of cottage cheese. But Why am I still hungry? I sometimes think if it’s not working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi @Nomorepasta! You raised an issue that I also have had with my husband. He was very concerned 1) that I could do it on my own; 2) that the surgery wasn't safe, and 3) I was too old to have it safely. So, I pussyfooted around him for a while, quietly sticking to my shakes and my plan and did some research. There is research out there that shows that people over 50 are now viable surgical candidates for WLS and that we do very well with it. The complications that my husband was concerned about don't happen much anymore. When confronted with facts, and my determination, his tune has changed. I had to change my mindset though first. The surgery is for me, so that I can be healthy. I don't want to die of a comorbidity in the next 10 years; I'd like to see my grandchildren grow up. Most importantly, I really, truly wanted his support, but I was having the surgery anyway, regardless. That mindset was quite hard to put in place, mainly because I'm a pleaser and I go with pretty much everything he wants most of the time. I don't put my foot down very often, but I had to this time. Finally, I had to be selfish in my healthcare. I look after his health the best I can (he is disabled), but have ignored my own healthcare for a lot of years and it shows. Now is my time. I'm happy to report that he has finally come around and is supporting my decision, even though he still has some reservations. All the best to you. Keep on reading the threads here, they were very encouraging when my spouse was not. ((Hugs))

    Partner/ spouse support

Nomore.... Have you explained to him how much you value his support, but that you feel this is the path you must take? My now ex husband hated the idea of me getting WLS. Back in 2009 i got banded. He said the same... you're doing it now, you can do it without surgery. But, i knew i had to have this for me and no one else. It was harder with out his support, but i went on to lose 89lbs. Kept it off for years. In 2016 i asked for a divorce after 25+ years. (lots of issues) The main problem was my weightloss. He hated the skinny me, would be negative all the time. Told me some of the most horrible stuff. But though it all Never had any weight gains while i had my band. Back in March 2017 i got the flu/stomach bug and threw up violently... slipped my band. Emergency removal. It was the worst day ever. Between that day and Julyishhh.... i gained back 30lbs. This confirmed that i needed WLS. So Aug 28, 2019 i got sleeved. Your health has many risk and side effects. You have to do this for you and only you. If you haven't, go watch youtube Dr. V.... he's an Asian guy and he is 100% correct on everything he says... go watch the one on relationships. 5'2" Banded Nov 10, 2009 SW 232, weight at removal 143 Sleeved Aug 28, 2019 SW 173.5 Today 144.2

    14-day Pre-op Starts Today

    I start mine 11/19!
  25. Hey y'all. I've noticed for the last 3 weeks after I eat I am getting some pretty fierce heartburn. No reflux coming up, just that clean-burning sensation. I had bad acid reflux and heartburn pre-op that totally disappeared. I am taking Prilosec. It definitely doesn't feel like an ulcer or anything and doesn't hurt while eating. It's a very distinct heartburn sensation. Doesn't seem to be correlated to any type of food. Just happens shortly after I eat anything. Any thoughts on this? I was taking Arthrotec which is an NSAID but also mixed with a medicine to protect your stomach lining (prescribed by my bariatric surgeon and later by my primary care for a disc herniation). I stopped that and now I am on Celebrex, also an NSAID but required by my plastic surgeon 10 days pre-op skin removal and 10 days post-op, and also "safer on tummies". Again, this is coupled with the Prilosec. But yeah... heartburny! Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
