Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

October 6 - 13 1/2 weeks. HW 281 (8/10/15), SW 251, today 204. Ate typical holiday food in smaller portions and down 3 pounds from 12/24. I think my pace will get back up to 8-10 lbs/month now that I'm back on food logging and exercise.
  2. Don't knock it but I think asdas own protein shakes work just fine. For me any chocolate, strawberry or latte shakes just all end up tasting the same as each other. Sent from my HTC 10 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Yesterday was a month of being banded. I feel as there's no need to get on the scale and see the same 10 pounds gone its not enough. I got adjusted two weeks ago my doctor told me if I felt little restrictions I had two weeks to come back. I'm going back Friday needing some results

    5 Month Update !

What an inspiration you are to us all!!! I am soon-to-be-sleeved and so anxious to get to the losers' bench - I am just tapping my foot waiting for my next appts. and was kind of in a funk earlier in the week. You have renewed my optimism and excitement about getting sleeved!!! I am on a self-imposed "pre-op" diet, which is really just lower carb, higher protein, more veggies and absolutely getting in all my water every single day. I am down 10 lbs. so far and have at least 3-4 weeks till surgery (don't have a definite date yet) so I am hoping to be down quite a few more preop. You have done phenomenally well for 5 1/2 months out - I hope I can be as successful! That really is an amazing drop in sizes too - SOOOO exciting! I am a nurse as well (but I stay home full time with my little ones now) and last time I was in the workforce I was in 2XL scrubs and I am a little heavier now than I was then so I can sure imagine how amazing it would feel to wear MEDIUMS!! Keep up the great work!

    3 days of 30, 3 days of 20, and 3 days of 10.
  6. I still haven't gotten any of my protein. I'm 13 days post op. The powder is nasty. I've been drinking slim fast which have 10 grams but I can only drink half at a time. I'm afraid I'm gonna end up hurting my progress ifvi dint start getting it in. People have given lots of advice but I'm just stuck.

  8. I've been reading and reading ever since my primary recommended it back in Feb. 2018... I seen my Sleeve doctor on 4-19-18 and was approved this month.. It's just that my Dr said no need for dropping.. Thanks for the advise.. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using BariatricPal mobile app

    Cold Feet? Long term implications...

I am so glad this thread was started- I am not quite 14 days post-op. And still on the liquid stage- I know these stages like the back of my hand(having done soooomuch research) before& I was prepared to feel deprived a bit BUT-The other nite- I found myself crying over "30 minute meals w/Rachel Ray". She was making a artichoke & scallop meal & other things w/wines. Everything I love. I thought "Oh-that will be to fiberous & that won't work either" so on & so On. I think they say that this is the morning part you go through after banding. On the flip side after about 10 mins I said well"It really should be about how others enjoy what i may prepare & me enjoying their conversation & company"-SOMETHING I did before But Not has MUCH has I was too busy eating more than most people. We all need to know that having a dinner party wearing a size 10 or 12 & not sweating as much feels so much better than it does now. At least for me - I don't have dinner parties like i used to .

    Is this normal....

Hi there! I was banded on 10/10 and the same thing happened to me. I still have it but not as severe. Comes and goes. You sound exactly like me. Check out my thread, I got good advice there also. Dont know how to attach but search pain in left side Take care and let me know how your doing. Roxy
  11. For the first week after surgery I was told to sip 4 oz of liquids every hour. So an 8 oz Protein shake for me lasted 2 hours. The hours in between the protein I would sip either broth or Water or have a sf ice pop or maybe even a little sf Jello. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought, I didn't feel that hungry. Shot for 60g of protein a day so I bought the shakes with the highest grams I could find. Good Luck ! Mary Lap Band done August 19 22 pounds down post-op

    Post-Op Liquids

So I'm beginning to think that my surgeon's 10 day suggestion is really just a careful, precautionary move. thanks!
  13. I can relate to this. I'm also a tight 8 and loose 10. Frustrating.

You look 10 years younger!!!!!! Congrats!
  15. Happy Changes: Fitting better in airplane seats. Shedding 10 years from my face. My mom being proud that I am getting healthy. My daughter and her friends saying I'm pretty. My adult Grisly Bear snore has reduced to a bear cub. People who haven't seen me in a while say "DAYYUUMM" before "Hello" Ordering from the kids menu in restaurants and still having a doggie bag. Paying the kids price at a buffet. Controlling my portions in spite of how much food is around me. Great dreams that I remember when I wake up. Being admired. Feeling enthusiastic. Fitting in clothes I almost gave away. Being able to take hand-me-downs from the sexy and stylish girl at work. Not shopping at Lane Bryant, the Avenue, Strutt or any other "Big Girl" store. Shopping in the Junior's section and looking good in what I try on. No real cravings anymore. Being comfortable in a 2 person go-cart. Changes that require me to think: Is this my underwear or my 14 year old daughter's? Would this guy have been interested in me 6 months ago? Will what I am about to eat make me slime? It didn't yesterday... Things I miss / make me unhappy: chocolate makes me PB - chocolate milk, a hershey's kiss, ice cream. The casino buffet - I use to really put away the crab legs and lobster tails. Taking 30 minutes longer to eat than everyone else at the table. Being asked if I am losing too fast. Being asked if I am eating / what I ate. I could probably think of more, but this is my main list...as you see the ups far outweigh the downs.

    juice ok?

The only thing I could tolerate post surgery was 100% apple juice. My surgeon was more than happy and told me to keep drinking that and water if it was all I could take. He also told me that unlike other weight loss surgeries, the real sugar is not an issue for the sleeve. Of course if you are not wanting those carbs and don't mind artificial sweetner then that's another story. I personally have been drinking vitamin water not the 10 cal. one. Apple, cranberry, juice and water. I am losing weight so fast that it scares me. Point is that the little bit of carbs I get from the natural fruit juice doesn't seem to be slowing down weight loss.
  17. I had a lap band and lap band removal,0. and the Dr prepared me that he may have to do a hand assist which requires a 2 1/2 inch scar coming up from belly button. He said in the very end of surgery he was having trouble seeing when he used the tool to join the pouch with the intestines so he made deduction to use the hand assist. This is not evasive as a full scar but does require a little more recovery. I'm 10 days put and could not lift a child, most days I take about. 2 hour nap, my energy level low. I know it's all up hill from here. Good luck and keep us posted.
  18. Hey everyone I will start with my story- Banded aug 2010, my doc is really conservative with fills and crazy busy so i didn't start feeling a bit of restriction or real weight loss until march 2011.... now i am 80 lbs down. Start 300, currently 220. As soon as i started getting fills i realized i have what is called first bite syndrome. It sucks. As soon as i eat anything my throat starts contracting, i develop a rediculous amount of thickkkk mucussy saliva and i feel pretty intense pain. Usually lasts 10 minutes, and then i can eat pretty normally. Smaller bites and pre-drinking hot Water hasn't helped. My doc says that i am just one of the unlucky few that has this problem. I have dealt with it over the time and became use to it. The problem is that i have trouble defferentiating between feeling full and the pain from the FBS. There are some meals where i just stop on the third bite just because the pain isn't worth it, but i usually just wait the 10 minutes and eat. Well, currently i keep having feelings of heartburn/FBS problems when i am not eating. Sometimes i feel like my body goes crazy on the anticipation of a meal... like driving home from work. I hear everyone say that if you are having heartburn you are probably too tight.... my problem with this is that i don't feel like i am. After i get over the FBS and 10 minutes i can eat pretty large portions before i feel full. Most food goes down easily (bread is main exception, that stuff is bad) meats like chicken, beef, pork i can consume decent sized portions before feeling a full feeling. So i feel stuck, here i am with heartburn... probably needing to unfill, but reluctant to because my portions are pretty large still and i want more fill. I know my situation is unique with FBS and maybe i am not really having heartburn, but just more complications with my body reacting poorly due to FBS. Does anyone have any comments, suggestions, advice? I am making an appointment with my doc as it has been like 5 months and 30 lbs since my last fill. Thanks everyone
  19. I am only about 1 month post op. I am on soft foods. On the list is tuna with mayo, no celery. I don't like mayo so I had it plain thinking that was ok. I had bad chest pain and burped. This pain lasted 10 mins. I thought it was from eating too fast, even though I didn't feel like I was eating too fast. A few days later, same thing. This time I blamed it on too big of bites, even though tuna crumbles apart and I did chew, chew,c hew. Today I tried it again. (I did not make the tuna connection until today as I thought I ws eating too fast first time and too big of bites the third time). This time I said to myself tuna must not agree with me, and then I remembered the chart says mayo and maybe it's too dry without anything like dressing or mayo. I dry heaved and slimed. Then my stomach muscles felt crampy. At dinner, I was eating a sweet potato and the pain was so bad. Maybe I didn't heal from this afternoon. I slimed in the sink for what felt like forever, Now my stomach muscles hurt like they do after throwing up. Why am I getting stuck with no fill? Did I hurt my stomach, my band or my plication? I go to the dr tmmrw and now I don't think I will get the ok for solid foods. Please help me with my misconceptions. Is tuna without anything bad? Can you get stuck without a fill? Could I be physically hurt around my band? I will tell the doctor tomorrow but please help me too!
  20. I am scheduled for surgery on 11/19. I have a bad cold with cough and earache for about ten days. I went to my pcp and she gave me antibiotics on Thursday and my ear is better. But I am still coughing and feeling generally awful. I hate to reschedule the surgery, I have been on the preop diet for week almost (4 new directions servings per day, about 800 calories) . I hate to have to restart it. I am afraid the reason I have not gotten well is the diet. I just feel like the whole thing has turned into a mess. I have scheduled my whole life around this surgery date. Time off work, people coming from out of town. I have waited for months!

    Surgeon appointment

Still sitting in office waiting to be seen for my FIRST appt at 10:30. They set up EKG for 11:30...that appt is toast. Not getting off to a great start. Met a new bander she looked great!
  22. I had surgery on 8/10 and I haven't yet started to feel hungry but I'm am overwhelmingly thirsty. I can never seem to get enough water. I went for a hike yesterday and boy was that a big mistake. I was so thirsty and hot and could not get enough water. How do you guys manage exercise without being able to drink a lot of water? Any tips and tricks? At home powerade zero has helped but I'm just always thirsty...

    Slippage prognosis

I am a little worried that I may have a slip, I had the flu over New Years and vomited until I couldn't swallow my own siliva. I had an emergencey unfill and felt much better within a few minutes. I had all the liquid taken out and waited about 3 1/2 weeks to start fills again. I have gained 10 pounds and have had two fills in the last month. I feel no restriction at all and feel very different than I did before the unfill. I have no reflux but just have a feeling that all is not well. I am going back in later this week for another fill. I am hoping that I am just a worrier!!!

    Banded Yesterday 9/14 ~~~

TXCHICA, i fought w/insurance (CIGNA SUCKS!) for 3yrs! then finally after paying off both vehicles decided to finanace (self pay) the lapband surgery! i LOVE dr. spivak! he rocks! so anyhow, i'm now 4days post op and i just got on the scale today for the very first time....to be honest, i still think the scale is LYING TO ME! but, its a brand new WW scale...and it was accurate w/my 4yr old and my hubby. it says i've already lost 6.9 lbs....in only 4 days! thats crazy good! now as far as pain goes....i stopped taking my pain med on sunday....really bc i couldn't stand the nasty taste of it, but also bc every day when i wake up, its a lil better then the day before. really. every single day i think...wow, if i am less sore today, i can't wait til tomorrow. my advise is to take the doctors advise and WALK WALK WALK. they'll make you walk in the hospital before you leave, so you should try to start that as a habit right away. i had surgery on friday, walked around at the hospital and then just a lil bit back and forth at home just up and down the hallway and back and forth (small house) then the next day i walked around Target for about 30min. next day i walked around office depot for about 35-40min....and then today, i walked 6/10 mile outside and then 1/2 mile at the mall. i think i bought WAY too much Jello and pudding and applesauce! my eyes were thinking in terms of the OLD ME! i think you'll be pleased w/dr. spivak. his nursing staff even called to check on me over the weekend twice! now that rocks bc we all know that doctors don't make calls on the weekends. dr. spivak seems VERY dedicated! if you have ANY questions please feel free to contact me on here via PM or via email at hazeleyegrl1@aol.com i would WELCOME the opportunity to have a fellow banster friend in cyberspace with the SAME dr. as me! xoxo:D
  25. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this after getting lapband surgery. My doctor had set expectations w/me that I should not expect to get off any of my meds right away... that it would take time to lose weight and then retest and adjust medicines (maybe in 6 months or so). Well, for the past few days I have felt very tired and yesterday I was feeling a little dizzy as I was trying to get some housework done. It occurred to me that this could be a sign of low blood pressure and I hadn't tested mine for awhile so I took it and it was 88/65! Now, normally I am around 140/90 even with taking 60mg of lisinopril (high bp med) per day. Seems like every time I go in, they up my dose because they could just never get it to stay down. So, I am blown away by the drastic drop. This morning, I decided to just test my BP before taking my med and it was 113/79 so I skipped my med today (my doctor did say this was OK if I got a low reading). I retested a couple more times and it is staying in the healthy range w/no med. Of course, I am ecstatic if this really means my high blood pressure has already been cured by the lapband, but its just so hard for me to believe. I've been on high bp meds for over 10 years and I had borderline high bp when I was a teenager. I'm kind of in disbelief that it could just go away like that. I have been on many many diets before and my high bp never just went away. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? And, a part of me is wondering if it could have something to do w/some of the other things I've given up... like artificial sweeteners, caffeine, etc.
