  1. I had my revision on March 6th. I too couldn't be happier. I was miserable with the band. Never really satisfied. I would take a few bites, get stuck and be miserable until I ran to the bathroom and brought it up. Now I can eat a small amount and really be satisfied. Though I am having trouble getting enough calories and protein (who would've thought) but still I wish I could've revised sooner.

    Sleeve to Bypass

I have my revision to bypass in Nov.I had a little more pain but they had to fix the hiatal Hernia again too. Recovery a little slower but not bad so far I have lost another 46 lbs.I had gained 20 back from the sleeve, which was from 2011.I couold of lost more if I exercised more, but I'm happy and still losing.Good luck.

    Sleeve to Bypass

I am 2 weeks out from revision from sleeve to bypass. I can't attest to the weight loss yet, but feel I am recovering faster. It helped to know what to expect after but do find some big differences. Good luck and no GERD is amazing.
  4. I can certainly see your concern. I can't imagine he'd have done anything you didn't sign a consent for, especially without telling you. Surely there's a good answer for what you're seeing on the report. Please do keep us updated. Praying for positive answers for you. FYI I am also a band to sleeve revision. Day 11
  5. Hello. I am praying for some responses. I had a Lap Band for 12 years and when it failed I decided to have a revision to a sleeve. Please know my surgeon is someone I have trusted for many years and have a great Dr. Patient relationship with. After the surgery though, I was not feeling what I felt I was supposed to feel especially in regards to hunger. I got my operative reports from the hospital and they say that my "omentum" was removed and a partial gastrectomy. If you look up partial gastrectomy it is different than a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I am very concerned and I also feel very bad questioning my Dr about this but, I think I have to or do you think it's possible that a Dr. called a sleeve a "partial gastrectomy"? if it were you and your body, what would you do? I realize most people don't get their surgery reports and question their Dr's. I see him tomorrow. I never expected such poor results with this either. I was much more successful with my lapband. Now I have reflux and no weight loss. He had me do a gastric emptying study today and that was normal but we will discuss results tomorrow. tell me, would you ask about the wording "partial gastrectomy" if you google it, it's not a sleeve gastrectomy. I'm so sad, perplexed and hoping to hear back from you guys.

    More sleeves than pouches?

One of the major reasons I will do nothing but RNY is due to the revision rate. Both band AND sleeve are both revised to bypass. It is still the gold standard Bariatric surgery and comes with the most research. They have also greatly improved their methods to help with the severe malabsorption that used to happen even a decade ago. I only want one surgery and this is the one that seems so tried and true.

anyone who had DS after vertical sleeve?

How did your appointments go last week? With your esophagus issues I don't think you should consider a revision to another sleeve, which can cause GERD in people that never had it before surgery and it doesn't typically result in as much weight loss as the DS or RNY. My prayers are with you that you'll get your health back soon. All the best.
  8. Looking for information from anyone whom had a band revision to sleeve or bypass.  Which is preferred if I have the option?  Surgeon's office recommends bypass for my BMI (55) and tendency for reflux.

I was banded 10yrs ago, had an initial weight loss of 70lbs, loved it...until lost insurance coverage and was unable to afford $250-500 per fill to find the sweet spot again.  Have had vomiting directly after eating practically anything solid, no matter how small an amount or how well chewed.

  9. Hello! I had lap-band installed in April 2009. Lost about 50 lbs total and have since gained back about 30. So net loss = 20 lbs. That's okay, though, because that weight was the difference between being mobile or not (weight at time of surgery was 382 - I'm now in the 358-363 range). The advice I got after the band was not to eat rice, bread or pasta for 6 months after surgery and to go in for periodic fills of the band. I had 3 fills before losing my job, my insurance, and eventually my home to foreclosure. Fast forward to October 2015. I'm diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I immediately look into getting a revision. While I start seeing a nutritionist and taking all the vitamins/supplements and learning to eat protein first and 3 meals a day, I'm consequently diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Approximately 6 months later, I'm diagnosed with GERD. The local surgeon in my small town was requiring that I lose 40+ lbs before he'd qualify me for surgery and was pushing the Sleeve on me (even though I knew By-Pass was the best route). After struggling to lose (I gained about 9 lbs in the 6 months under that nutritionist), I chose a different surgeon. This one the head of his department and very experienced bypass surgeon. Started seeing a new nutritionist (May 2016) and slowing started losing weight - about 1 pound a month. He only required I lose 15 lbs which was a MUCH more achievable goal in my eyes. I finally qualified in October 2016. Blue Cross Blue Shield declined my request for coverage on 11/30/2016. My surgeon did a peer-to-peer review on 2/1/2017 and I was declined after that as well. After hearing from someone in a Facebook revision support group, I decided to look into Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. I spoke with Kelley Brown Lindstrom earlier today and just sent over my records and payment. I'm paying for the expedited service (they get my file together and submit it within 3 days). So far my impression has been very favorable. Kelley has been knowledgeable and supportive and I'm impressed with her breadth of experience with different insurance companies. For the first time in a very long time I'm hopeful that I could have this revision sometime this year! Anyway, I'll keep people posted as to how it is working with them. Wish me luck!

    More sleeves than pouches?

I'm having RNY. I have severe GERD, that causes me to sleep on my couch in an upright position. I actually chose the RNY even before knowing about the sleeve. I have noticed that the sleeve is more commonly done now, but I was told that if I did a sleeve, I would most likely have to have a revision to the RNY. So, I decided to just do RNY and skip having more surgery.

    Which surgery??

This is incorrect. The shape of the sleeve it totally different from RNY. The Sleeve is the first step for DS not RNY. RNY has a pouch at the top of the stomach and the Sleeve and the DS both share the banana shape. One reason I chose the Sleeve over RY was because I know if I didn't have success with the sleeve I could revise to the DS. If you fail with RNY you have no where to go unless you are going to go out the country and have more of your intestines bypassed which is risky. Also important differences beyond shape is the sleeve leaves the pyloric sphincter in place and the stomach still functions normally, just smaller. In addition a properly formed sleeves removes almost all of the stretchy part of the stomach, RNY does not, it uses part of the stretchy part to make the pouch, thus people with RNY can get a lot of stretch in their pouch. The only way a sleeve is grossly stretched out is medical malpractice. Back to OP. If GERD was anywhere on the table, I think RNY is the only option. GERD with the sleeve is pretty terrible, if you are already prone, then don't risk it. I never had GERD in my life before having the sleeve which is why I felt it was a safe choice for me.

    Christian sleevers ?

A very humble believer here. God, through Christ has been very merciful to me. I am currently revised from lapband to sleeve. I know, beyond a shadow of any doubt that God has intervened in my life several times giving me the opportunity and blessing to enjoy life and family here on earth. Before the lapband I was a very big guy with many medical issues and was given a second chance with lapband by helping me lose 120 pounds and begin to enjoy life and my family. 4 years after the lapband, God intervened again, when by accident I discovered that my esophagus was with issues due to lapband complications and was revised to sleeve. I am very grateful for this tool(s) he has made possible for me. God is good all the time!
  13. I'm probably not the best to respond since I am still pre-op but you post really got to me. I am so sorry that you've gone through all of this. Have you thought about revision surgery? I have seen a few people on these forums who had regain or didn't lose as much as they wanted. They did a revision to the mini gastric bypass or full gastric bypass and had a lot of success with it. Of course I don't know if you meet the BMI requirements or not for that. I've also seen people do a "pouch reset" where you go back to what you were doing in the beginning right after surgery. Liquid diet, then purees, etc. It's supposed to help regain some restriction. I really think you should try seeing a therapist too. They can help with the depression you have & even help with the binge eating problems. Are you exercising? Using a Fitbit helped me a lot. I thought I was active but I was gaining weight. Then I tracked with my Fitbit and was actually only getting around 4,000-5,000 steps a day when I'm supposed to get 10,000.
  14. Hi I am wondering if you went ahead with the surgery. I am 67 yrs old and am scheduled May 2nd for a revision from Band to Bypass. Reading this site and going to many pre-op and post-op Bariatric Meetings helped me with the fear, expectations, and ultimately making the decision. I too postponed making the change..for about 5 years. Good Luck
  15. I have been banded for about 7 years. no problems until last year. I am having some tests done to see if i have band erosion. I know how the band works, I guess the sleeve is the next option if I have to have it removed. i want to go with the least extreme option. How does the sleeve work? Would you feel full like with a band? With the band, after 4-5 bites it feels like if I east one more bite it will be coming back up. Not sure what to expect from a sleeve. I am 69 and dont want to do anything drastic. Thank you DA

    Resleeved

I'm waiting to hear back from the insurance. All they required was one neutrino class and a psych eval for the revision. I'm from Texas and Dr John Pilcher will be performing my revision. He has also given me the choice between resleeving and rny. I'm not too sure what to do. What is a bougie?

    NSV and SV!!

You look amazing! What is the revision for?
  20. As long as you're losing, you are doing fine. I'm 9 months out from a band to bypass revision and still can only eat 650-850 calories a day. My metabolism is slow from years of dieting and having the lapband plus genetics. My dietician says when I reach maintenance I will need to eat 1,200 calories to maintain. So it's different for different people with different metabolisms and levels of activity. As long as you're losing, you must be doing it right for you.
  21. I'm having my revision done on Monday 1st May and I'm suppose to have it in 1 surgery, however I'm aware that sometimes it can't be done for one reason or another. How many people went to have it all done in 1 surgery but woke up to find out they couldn't? And why? I'm so so nervous they won't be able to and I'll be without the sleeve and the band [emoji30]

    Pre Op help

Not sure if this was meant for me or someone else but the way my surgeon explained it is that yes, he could fix my hiatal hernia with the sleeve but most sleeve patients experience a recurring hernia within a few years. The way RNY anchors your pouch apparently prevents it from slipping back through your diaphragm. Plus, often times GERD issues come back too. There are many people on here who are getting revised from sleeve to RNY, mostly because their GERD wasn't resolved or it came back. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
