Thanksgiving "survivor"!
nowatgoal replied to mullet head's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good job! Sounds like you really did well. I'm afraid I relate to the "survivor" part of this. I didn't do too well. Because I hadn't shared my surgery with most of the people at the table, I felt pressure to look and eat normally. They all knew I was dieting so I wasn't eating as much, but still, I ate too much and then had to make three trips to the bathroom to throw up. I haven't thrown up in a couple of weeks (it was a problem the first couple of months) so I was really disappointed in myself. I was finally at a point where I thought I had learned what my new stomach could consume comfortably and then I blew it by pushing the limit. I've learned my lesson and Christmas I won't care what people think about how much I'm eating. I'm going to take better care of my little tummy for the rest of the holidays. -
60 POUNDS!!! YEA FOR YOU Boy I am slacking! I have only lost 34 and I had mu surgery just a month after you! I was doing really good! I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks, but then I had to have some of my fill taken out! I am going in Friday to see about putting some more in! Wish my luck!

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your daily protein requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as protein shakes. Many people experience problems eating and drinking after surgery. Two of the medical conditions that can contribute to this problem is the development of strictures and ulcers. So if you find that your problem is extreme (such as constant vomiting) then I would recommend working this problem out with your surgery team. That is why they are there. The transition to hard foods (such as chicken and steak) can be rather rough. As a result I have relied on softer foods (such as high protein chili and soups). I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Hi everyone. I’m 8 weeks post gastric sleeve. As per surgeons orders, I started solid food (that isn’t puréed) 2 weeks ago and I’m just wondering how slow to eat? Everywhere says eat slowly like taking 30mins to eat a meal but somewhere I read to have a bite every 5 mins. Is this right? I’m just worried I eat too quickly sometimes and it’s hard differentiating pain from eating too quick and not tolerating the food or being full.

KevinsBabyGirl85 replied to sweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Panda don't feel bad I hit a plateau at about 4 weeks another around 8 weeks and now at 12 weeks this one has been the longest plateau as I've been weighing the same thing since week 12 and I'm now on week 15! I exercise 5 days a week and stick to all healthy foods! I'm seriously getting frustrated! -
i have no idea what to write... my weight IS dropping but i am eating all the wrong things .... i have no idea what to eat to keep my calories up when i work out. chicken wings, ice cream... **sigh** i need to stop. i am very pleased with my loss this week so far. i've dropped 4.75 pounds. i am not sure if it is the working out, the eating or the muscle milk.... i did buy 2 jugs of muscle milk. the peanut butter/chocolate is pretty good. i am going to try the banana cream today before i work out.

Broke through my stall

:straight Just some thoughts that I have been having, I started to think about the lap-band 2 weeks ago, but my breaking point was Tues. 3/27/07 at the doctors office. I got on the scale and the nurse read my weight to me witch was 247 and I just wanted to cry. That is the heaviest that I have ever been. I was sitting in the doctor exam room thinking to myself that I should ask her about the lap-band, I was a bit nerves about asking but got the nerve to ask. What she said I was not happy about. With the many steps that have to follow before surgery, I wasn't so sure that I want to take all the steps. But as I get heavier the more I realize that I need help. So I have been on the Internet for 3 day studying the lap-band system, and how it works. I was thinking that the process would be a lot easier. As I read the information on the surgery, I find that you have to go thought many steps to get this done. I have found a date and time of a event that is close to me and I will attend this, in hopes to learn all that is needed to be learned. I know that it will not be easy to do this but with the help of my friends and family I think that this would be right for me. I will write in later to keep updated.

So far, I have not really set any time/weight goals. I haven't had a clue how to even guess how much I would lose. My original goal in my head was to hit Onederland by July 4. I think based on factoring in a 3 week stall and losing about 5 pounds a week, I'm going to bump that up a little to around June 10th. So....there you have it....my first goal. I want to lose 35 pounds and hit Onederland by June 10th.

My husband and I split 6 weeks ago. I guess it's taken me this long to admit that it's over. I have been asked if it's to do with the weight loss, but to be honest, the problems were there when I was big, and they didn't go away when I lost the weight (which I was hoping would happen - it's funny how you think losing weight will miraculously 'fix' what's wrong with your life). So here I am, at 40, single again. I am lucky to have a good job, am in the position to be able to buy over the family home, will have primary custody of my 4yo son, and sole custody of my 16yo son (from my 1st marriage), so it's not all bleak. I know this is the right thing for us, but being single again is scary, and not having been single for any longer than 3 months since i was 16yo, I feel like a fish out of Water, all of s sudden, not quite sure of what my new life entails. Anyhow, I would love to chat with others in the same boat, who can help guide me through the 'maze' of this change in my life.

Wtf! I Weighed In This Morning...
Panda replied to sweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes the roller coaster ride is a doosie! I only lost 25 lbs my first month. I only sound so ungrateful (although I am not) because it seems as though everyone else on here is losing do much faster than me. I exercise daily. I get my protein in and its only gonna b five weeks this Wednesday but I have friends that say they didn't plateau this soon...so I don't know what to think. Its discouraging at times....especially when you have people calling all of the time asking "well how much have you lost now?" Every other day -
Am I Allowed To Sleep In A Bed?
cookies replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you can sleep however you like as soon as you feel comfortable. It was a good week before I tried sleeping in a bed, though. Moving around and getting into/from the side position was not comfortable at all. I slept in a recliner. -

By the way the cost is $1,500 double occupancy, for 1 week, ALL inclusive, EXCEPT air fare. It includes my workshops and all activities at the resort which includes two trips a day to the deeper reef for snorkeling. The shallow reef is the resorts backyard. It is so great one week will not seem like enough! Flights leave from Houston and Miami non-stop to Roatan. Continental airlines and I think another one is starting to fly there also) It is a short 11 1/2 hr. flight from there and both airports(HOU and MIA) are easy to fly into from any city in the US. The cost of my flight last year cost around $550 round trip from San Francisco. -
Too tight or just need to figure this out better...
OnTheWay to Thin replied to LindaD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wonder if flying had an impact on your bands? We were banded at about the same time, I have had 1 fill and I have restriction but have noticed when I am congested i am tighter (darn alergies), I also tried steak tonight for the first time since my fill, did not go well. It came back up, I dont seem to get too stuck as if it feels stuck it ejects pretty quickly. But like you guys I am still trying to figure things out. I had a business lunch this week too and I was scared spitless to eat.. luckily they had sandwich trays where one big tray of bread, 1 big tray of all kinds of meats, cheeses and lettuce & tomatoe so I made a tomatoe, meat, cheese sandwich and chew chew chew and it went ok. -

Linda, I just got back late last night from vacation in vegas. I had a really hard time with food. every time I ate I got stuck. I chewed chewed chewed and still it happened...even on things like scrambles eggs and soft fish. I haven't been able to get a fill yet (still waiting for another appoinment to see if my port has flipped over) I just dont know why I wasn't able to eat really for a week. luckily I brought some slimfasts and that helped a bit. Hope things go better for you! -
What is sliming? I haven't heard this before. Only banded for a week now, but no difficulties either. Just learning. I'm supposed to be on soft food still, but sick of cream soups and puddings, protein shakes, etc. I can eat mexican and ground beef (very little) . Have only eaten other stuff that could be put through a blender. Don't want to vomit, so will take it slowly, but noticed posting commenting about sliming and then vomiting.???:help:

Try to do a liquid diet for at least two of the 6 weeks ... that should keep the pounds down.
